I had just returned from Bangkok and was already missing that cool Korean B magazine I was too lazy to buy. Without much hope, I looked for it in Hanoi. What a surprise, “The Bookshelf Hanoi” had a whole bunch of them. Completely new magazine for me. Absolutely unknown bookstore. Funny thing is that “Bookshelf’s” owner Hoa discovered that magazine in the same giant bookstore in Bangkok. "I really liked it, and thought that someone here could also fall for it," she said, adding that distinctive chuckle. Hoa likes to laugh a lot. It feels like she opened her bookstore with the same lighthearted smile on her face. "I wanted to read a lot, but I didn't have money for books." Hee-hee. Hoa's cozy bookstore would have fit into one corner of that enormous bookstore in Bankgok, but the collection here is impressive. Hoa shared one of the books - her favorite one - with me. But I do think all the books here are her favorites. They don't even make up the store, but Hoa's special, magical, whimsical world. A unique soul reflected in hundreds of books. And could there be something superfluous in one’s soul? Hee-hee.

A delightful English-language bookstore in an alley off an alley. It is like finding a prize at the end of a maze. Inside there is a small, but exquisitely well-curated collection of books lining the walls of the back room. When we visited a literary coffee gathering of gen z readers were chatting at a table in the middle of the room. We were quizzed about our favorite books and handed thoughtful recommendations. The proprietor Hoa showed us around the inventory of classics, YA, poetry, and nonfiction... No filler, all books worth reading. I loved that the nonfiction was organized by jacket color! It's surprising how logical the order is--publishers must go to the same color palletes for similar topics. In addition to all the books, the store features art, gifts, candles, and whimsical items. We were given a banh mi bookmark (don't worry, it is made from paper, not bread and delicious fillings) and treated very kindly all around. Highly recommended for anyone who covets books--visitors and citizens of Vietnam.

Been buying books for years from The Bookshelf Hanoi, but it was last week that I first came to this cozy little bookstore. It was quite hidden in a local alley, a little bit out of the old quarter. I was so happy that it looked exactly the same as I imagined: colorful, hidden, interesting, mesmerizing, peaceful and vibrant. I love the books decorated by colors. I love the non-fiction section as well as the fictional one. I love the cool and rare stuffs which the owner collected. Her name is Hoa and we have been friends for years. Trust me, she found the coolest postcards and stickers ever. One more thing, if you come here in person, ask her about the journal and please take some time to read the kind and beautiful pages inside. And if you can, please write down your notes too. I believe Hoa would be beyond happy if you do.

️️ This cozy little bookstore feels like a peaceful oasis from the busy Hanoi streets. I enjoy the nonfiction section (biz + philosophy - in English). Come here for the comfy sofa chair & books organized by color, stay for the cat bookmarks & postcards. The owner is local from Hanoi and super sweet! They also have stationary and had Christmas wrapping paper during the holidays.

What a great little shop. English language books and eclectic gifts and clothing boutique. Super friendly staff that made my kids feel right at home doing art and selecting a book. The books are mostly for grownups and range from classics to bestseller, fiction and non. For kids there is a YA section and some classics for younger ones.

The Bookshelf is a cozy hidden corner of the bustling city such as Hanoi, which makes it extremely rare and precious. Always looking forward to come back here, with a wide range of books, along with a great taste of music, nice and fun people. A bookstore with an atmostphere of a small, peaceful and warm library …

Unique selection of English books, with varying topics in philosophy, economics, literature, non fiction and fiction. Great environment to take your time to browse and look at books! quaint and quiet. the staff were super helpful and gave me free bookmarks too. thank you for the two cherries too

Such an awesome bookstore! Not too big but utterly cozy, with so many diverse books, magazines, and cute little goods. They also take orders of books you want to read but are not available immediately. Not to mention the atmosphere here is amazing as well! Highly recommend it to everyone!

Simply a must visit for the experience with the kindest staff and interesting books. They even allow you to freely (and free of charge) to customise your newly bought book with ink stickers. Can with the utmost confidence say that it is the best bookstore, I've ever been to.

A really well picked selection of books! I had a great time getting to know some of the employees at this place and browsing through their library. Hoa (the owner) is amazing, and really came in handy picking out a book for me when I didn't know what to choose.

Located in an unassuming street. This is just a perfect bookstore, and besides they also have some other small crafts. Well sorted and great selection of english fiction and non-fiction titles. Staff is super nice too!
