The Mockingbird Cinema is an absolute cultural treasure for Birmingham! Lee and the team here work with tireless effort and invention to bring quality cinema and entertainment to this city. There is always such a fantastically diverse range of events and screenings going on here including the cracking inaugural Birmingham Anime Film Festival underway at this time. お疲れ様でした! It is such a challenging time for cinema, and no doubt the challenges of recent years could have lost us this gem of a venue, but they kept us all entertained through the lockdowns with quizzes, social media etc, doubled down on their ambitions and built a second screen against the odds! “HOORAH!” After 25 years in this city I occasionally ponder what the heck I’m still doing here, and then I go catch a flick and a pint at this fabulous cinema and remember why I’m so happy to be a film fan living in Brum! Keep up the fantastic work team!
The Mockingbird hosted a private screening of a cinematic classic (Citizen Kane) that I’ve been wanting to organise for my fiancée for years now. I could not recommend more highly, as the experience was seamless. From super speedy communication after my initial query to a thorough, personal and efficient service up until our screening, the whole experience was marvellous. The pricing for private hire, particularly Screen 2, if you’re a smaller party, is exceptionally reasonable. I didn’t have to do anything except pay the invoice and turn up on the day - Lee was even kind enough to play along with the ‘surprise’ part for my fiancée. Thank you all, and we hope to visit again soon!
I really want to give 5 stars, it’s a fab cinema, it’s indie and a gem to Birmingham. Everything about my experience visiting I enjoyed, apart from the seating! I suffer with chronic leg pain and the seating just doesn’t accommodate me. So I opt for chains that have higher seating with more leg space or recliners. Maybe if the seating can’t be changed, access to foot stools would make it comfier? There’s a few marathons showing here that I would love to go to, I just can’t imagine sitting through them in the seating, which puts me off completely :( Otherwise lovely cinema and experience, thank you.
I don’t really leave reviews but after visiting this cinema yesterday to watch the Life of Brian I felt I should. The staff were amazing, the area is super cool and the intimate cinemas were the best film experience I have had anywhere ever. If you have t been there yet I would highly recommend that you do. You won’t be disappointed. Best value for money and highest quality experience period ! The Mockingbird is amazing and that’s a completely independent and non sponsored comment. ⭐️ ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Honestly a great place. Went for the first time last week. Watched Past Lives. They have main stream blockbusters and independent movies. Comfortable seats. Decent size screen. You avoid those people who otherwise sit in showings at big cinema chains, who look and scroll through their phones as opposed to watching the movie, and distract others. A place for movie lovers who appreciate the cinematic experience. Will be sure to go to the Mockingbird from now on.
My husband and I love the Mockingbird Cinema. Very friendly accommodating staff who always go the extra mile making you feel welcome and they have a great selection of films on. My husband and I went to see the film Superman the movie from 1978 yesterday. It brought back memories for me of my family who are no longer alive whom I watched it originally with and I cried at various points. My husband and I highly recommend the Mockingbird Cinema to to others.
Cool little independent cinema/cafe in the heart of Birmingham. Clean and pleasant atmosphere inside. I had a screening of my film here and it was great to have the support of the owners who were willing to take a chance on an unknown film as part of their horror season (which also showed will known horror films). I'd happily recommend The Mockingbird Cinema to folks who want to see a film in a more intimate, independent setting.
Cozy little cinema, staff are super nice. There's a bar area where you can have a drink while you're waiting. The screen is big enough, audio system has enough punch while sound proof is good, seats are comfortable, the floor is clean (still a bit sticky but already better than most of the Odeon..). I watched Makoto Shinkai's Suzume. I love Japan anime, really appreciate Mockingbird screen those not so main stream movies.
Lee and the Team are all amazing! We hosted a charity event here recently and the team all went above and beyond for us. Professional, welcoming and so friendly! We looked at all the main cinemas but the mockingbird really stood out and we knew they wanted to help for such a good cause! Huge thank you! All the kids and the families loved it and so did we! Definitely a cinema worth a visit!
A pretty laid back cinema, reasonable pricing on tickets, drinks and snacks. They hold some great events, such as the recent Slumberthon and the random free film nights! A great place to be if you want to enjoy films and be surrounded by people who are like-minded, rather than those more interested in their friends and phones throughout the movie. I would honestly recommend a visit
We always look forward to our visits to the Mockingbird, and yesterday we visited again to see 'Have you got it yet? - The story of Syd Barrett and Pink Floyd' - we loved every minute of it - well worth seeing ⚘ and the great vibe that is always present at the Mockingbird Cinema, Bar & Café really added to the enjoyment of our visit, just as it always does!
Absolutley fantastic cinema. We attended the big buffy meet-up - the attention to detail was insane from high school maps, band posters and special messages from the cast. Quiz was fab and the magician really entertaining tarot card reading was a nice touch and loved the themed cocktails. really friendly atmosphere and will be attending future themed events!
I hired the Cinema for a fundraising event supporting Breast Cancer Now the research and care charity (private viewing of Grease). The booking process was simple; customer care was excellent, a shout out to Darius; the venue was clean, tidy and access for those with mobility issues was great. I will definitely be going again
Booked to see the twilight marathon (but I've been many times previously)! Staff are lovely, friendly and welcoming. Always great film choices, VERY reasonably priced. Independent so brilliant value in a lovely area and venue. I have a membership which is also great value. Have booked for the next twilight marathon too!
I recently went to this cinema for the first time with my son to see The Wicker Man and we loved it. The bar sells a range of drinks and confectionery and there is also a selection of cinema related artwork for sale. The staff were friendly and helpful and it was great to share the cinema with like-minded individuals.
I love this Cinema and will always be there to support what they do. We went on Saturday to see Guardians of The Galaxy Vol. 3 We bought a Cider to take in, which was quiet nice, refreshing and decently priced. The Inside is always warm and
AMAZING night! Booked this gem of a indepenent cinema for my husbands birthday. Private screening of Whithnail and I.... we could not have had a better night. Memories made for ever...film...booze...friends. The director Lee was great in
Came by this place by accident and I’m so impressed, it’s such a lovely place and a real gem in the middle of Birmingham! Amazing find!! The staff are really great and the cinema is intimate and unique! Will remember this treat!
I'm not going to downgrade the establishment but the the latte and hot chocolate were terrible. Well worth a visit great experience. Parking is an issue, quite expensive but round the corner you can get 12 hours for £3.50.
Intimate home theatre vibes, the seats were pretty short and not the most comfortable to sit in especially for a 2 hour movie. I would have really enjoyed softer seating. Overall - I had a good time.
Audio was mediocre, sofas were very uncomfortable and the floor was sticky. I really like the idea of a cinema like this but I think a little more investment is needed. I won't return but it was ok.
Visited for a Lord of the Rings movie marathon. Place was great. Seats were comfy and it sounded and also looked great as well. Great prices as well too. Would definitely come back again!
best spot in birmingham, went for a late night viewing of stop making sense and was the best vibes you could ask for!! (also some good artwork and pins for sale there too!)
Decent and accessible considering the city centre location. Parking is rather tricky to find but paid parking is available close by if you search before you arrive.
We add a brilliant 11th birthday party! Lee and his team are wonderful and so helpful! It was perfect and the girls had a great time!! Thank you so so much!!!
We came here last night although we didn't use the cinema we stopped here for a drink. Lovely gent who served is and great choice of drinks and snacks.
We went to the dog friendly viewing and it was so good. All the people, dogs and staff were amazing and we couldn’t of asked for a better crowd!
Fantastic indie cinema showing a mix of new releases and other special events. Great location and wide range of drinks available at the bar.
Nicely kept mini golf right next to the gherkin. The food was pretty good and the service excellent. Worth a try if you are in town.
Cosy cinema, friendly staff, reasonable prices and some great movies you won't generally find at other cinemas
A lovely intimate cinema hidden away, that shows movies not found in the big cinemas. Friendly helpful staff.
Quiet, fun .. I hadn't been to a cinema with sofas before .. sofas weren't as comfortable as I'd have liked
Everyone should see a film here - had a Kenergy cocktail before Barbie - staff were great, lovely venue.
Management very friendly, cinema clean and nice couches. Toilets area not best but great experience.
Cosy and well priced considering a normal trip to the cinema. Nice eclectic selection of movies.
Great little independent cinema. Staff were very friendly and helpful. Comfortable seats.
Lovely independent cinema, enjoyable experience, reasonable prices. Well worth a visit!
One of the best independent cinemas in Birmingham, a delight for film fans. A must.
