UPDATE: thank you to Ryan, the manager, for reaching out to me. I was invited back and the experience was a 10:10. From the hostess, to the manager Richard greeting us, to our delightful waitress, the second visit blew our expectations. Our meal was comped and we tipped our waitress generously. Thank you again for the outreach, we are forever fans of the Vig!!! First impressions are everything, and the Vig dropped the ball there. The woman at the door holding the tablet for reservations Friday evening 9/15/23 at 725pm was very snarky and nasty. We had a 715 reservation and arrived at 725. We called ahead of time and confirmed they had a 15 min grace period. When we arrived, this woman stated there were no tables and we needed to wait at the bar. To clarify bc my husband was speaking to her and I couldn’t hear, I asked if that was the case even for reservations. She dryly said a long drawn out yes in a mocking tone. I just stared at her and stated we would sit at the bar no problem. Not even 5 minutes later another hostess, who had people skills, warmly let us know our table would be ready shortly. Our waitress was very kind and the food was delicious. But the energy we received at the door was memorable in the worst way. When we left the majority of staffed wished us a goodnight except the same short brunette with a sour puss stank face. Other than her unabashedly sharing her misery, the venue was delicious and it’s a great place to enjoy dinner and drinks.

We embarked on a brunch adventure to The VIG for good food and vibes on the Fourth of July. We got the whole gastropub experience with the the rustic decor and sports-themed ambiance, which is exactly what we wanted. Our journey took flight with the Spreads. For $25, we were treated to three amazing spreads accompanied by loads of toasted Italian bread chips. Each bite was an experience - the Artichoke & Kale dip, the Brie, Date, Spicy Apricot dip, and the Pimento Cheese dip were indescribable. These spreads were the star of the show and we will be returning just for these. It was hard to beat the appetizers as we had high expectations, but The Vig did not disappoint. The Chicken and Waffles came with two fun-sized squeeze bottles with maple syrup and a hot sauce. This was delicious. Each crispy bite was heavenly. The Southern Fried Chicken Sandwich was very good but I've had better chicken sandwiches elsewhere. I would recommend the Chicken and Waffles instead. We also got a side of Pimento Mac 'n' Cheese, which absolutely slapped. For drinks, we got the Aperol Spritz and The Vig Bloody Mary. Both of these were delicious. We were interested by their mimosa kits, but they weren't good value. Thank you for the great service and the fun vibes. We will be back to devour those Spreads again!

While visiting the Windy City our family friend made reservations at The VIG Chicago for us to enjoy brunch. They offer indoor and outdoor seating and even at 11:30a on a Saturday morning inside was pretty loud. It was a lively, young environment, don’t get me wrong, but if you want a nice spot to conversate, outside might be best. The Pros: lots to choose from on the menu, prices were pretty fair for downtown, and tons of seating. Food itself tasted great. Cons: we were baking in the sun and when asked if we could put the umbrella at our table up they said that it was too windy, while the tables 3’ from us had several up . Then, when asked to move to one of the open tables in the shade the hostess gave us grief that it was problematic. Ultimately, we moved and it was fine. I won’t let the crankiness and unaccommodating nature of the host staff ruin a good thing and their score; our server Alison was remarkable and it was a great visit. We’d certainly come back.

dont bother wasting your time at this place. Its extremely expensive for red robin type food. Dont get me wrong their chicken parm was great but my turkey burger had tons of inedible pieces in my meat, but our waitress wrote down all of our orders correctly but somehow managed to press the wrong button and gave our friend the wrong food, then we had to wait an extra 20 mins for her food to come and instead of an apology or some sort of complementary drink for messing up our food, she just came up and told us what she did and walked away. And they poorly boxed my food and didnt give me everything i wanted from my plate. there are better drinks and food options in the city for probably better quality. 6/10

Updated 2023; The Vig is our go to place when we want to make sure of a good time. To chill in a good vibes atmosphere, drink, and eat delicious food. We comes here once or twice a month to dine. We love this place and the service was nice. We found another gem in the city. This restaurant would be one of our tops now especially in burgers and salads. Good service too! Lynnsey was very good at explaining the menus, friendly and attentive. The food was phenomenal especially their Harvest Pumpkin salad. We also ordered the Morrocan turkey burger and it was delicious. We will come back definitely to try the Vig burger (I've heard that they've won as one of the best burgers in Chicago 2019). Can't wait to try it!

This is a really great burger place in Old Town! They also have really amazing salads. I like this place so much I went there twice this past weekend for lunch. I live just a couple of blocks away and have been selling real estate in the area for over 17 years and have a lot of choices for burgers in Old Town. This is one of my favorite spots because of the food, outdoor seating, and the service. Every time we go the staff really takes great care of us. The food is constantly good and several options. Their burgers are amazing and so are there fries, but the chicken parmesan sandwich is a must try. I don't have pics of it, but I had the Greek salad on Saturday with grilled chicken and enjoyed every bite. This is a really great local restaurant in the neighborhood!

The food at The Vig is absolutely incredible! I've tried a few dishes from their menu, and I haven't been disappointed yet. Today, I had the Peri Peri chicken, and the flavor was out of this world. The marinade was perfectly balanced, and the chicken was cooked to perfection. I'm already craving it again! I highly recommend trying the Peri Peri chicken, and I'm also hoping they'll start offering wings with the same sauce. In addition to the amazing food, the service is top-notch. The staff is friendly, attentive, and always willing to go the extra mile. They make you feel welcome and valued as a customer.

This was my second time here in a row. Honestly, I went for the second time because nothing else was open. I wanted to try different restaurants. I hate wasting my money if the food is not good. The first time was great and the second time was great also. I was not disappointed. I had the pork chop special. Usually I avoid pork chops at restaurants. This pork chop was excellent. You will want to suck on the bone lol. The day before we had salmon hush puppies, the salmon BLT, and the tuna tacos. Everything excellent. Servers excellent also.

Go now. Run, don't walk. The service is great and the food is even better. The only other place I've been that compares is The Whale. And imagine my surprise to find out they're both a part of the same restaurant group. They're intentional about providing a great dining experience and it shows. Everything we ate was delicious. I recommend this place. ❤️

Came to the VIG on a random Monday evening. Very calm, clean, and clear! Impressed with the spaciousness of the restaurant and kindness of the servers. Ordered The Vig Burger and was not disappointed. Perfectly cooked medium burger w their side of French Fries + aioli dip. Liked the atmosphere, food choices, and location. Would highly recommend!

First time visit. Great atmosphere. Love the music, perfect volume for conversation. Food portion is just right. The waitresses are so friendly and accommodating. The steak (medium rare) was so tender and perfectly seasoned (not too heavy on salt and pepper). And the drink (old fashioned) is a must. The food came out in perfect timing that you don’t feel rushed or that you’re waiting forever!

VERY good food that I totally have been hesitant to try! The Vig is one of the most popular spots in Old Town for the night bar scene, so I've been reluctant to give their food a fair shot. I'm glad I did! Their fries were super crispy and the turkey burger was amazing! It was two smaller patties stacked on top of each other, so each had a really nice 'finish' on them. AKA they were cooked well! I seemingly only captured a photo of the large bread the turkey burger comes with, but there's a lot of meat!

My friends and I come here often and absolutely LOVE The Vig! Fun atmosphere, great food, delicious cocktails and great beer options. I’m a pescatarian and they have a good amount of options! I’ve gone for brunch & dinner and haven’t been disappointed! Love it when SJ is our server too! She offers great recommendations!

There are bar/restaurants all up and down Wells in this area. This is the one that is always busy. There is no wonder why. Good service, decent food and a nice busy atmosphere brings people in. They could skip the EDM/techno music inside, but that's just my own taste.

This restaurant is good for many occasions. Great brunch, good before a night out at Zanies or Second City, or great place to party on wells street. Its huge and we've never waited for a seat. The food is good, the cocktails are on point, and the bar is huge. Our only complaint is that it's so SO loud in there. They desperately need some sort of sound dampening on their ceiling.

A group of 6 of us walked in to hang out and maybe get a drink. The worker at the VIG was not polite and told us each individually we were over served, even though we hadn’t gone out at all. It seemed like he just wanted us to leave so he didn’t have to serve us. It was rude and uncalled for. We left without ordering anything.

Right in the heart of Old Town on Wells. Sort of a fusion of gastropub and fine dining. Salmon BLT was good. Pretty big drink list. Our server was excellent, she handled 10 of us on her own—and it was a family gathering—couldn’t have been easy since everyone was busy catching up with one another. Thanks for having us!

My wife and I went here to get some brunch and pre game a catholic wedding ceremony. I started with an aperol spritz and ended up having a second, they were light and easy to sip. My wife ordered the salmon board and it was enough to feed 2-3 easily. I got the brisket hash which had bacon, crispy potatoes, a fried egg on top and some hollandaise. It was plenty of food and so good. Vibes are immaculate inside and there are plenty of TVs as well.

2023: Still love it here!!! Added more pictures of the chicken sandwich. 2022: We come here once a week for the drinks and food in the summers after our volleyball games. HIGHLY recommend the fried chicken sandwich (pictured). It's amazing!! Anything else is good too but the sandwich is our team’s favorite.

The atmosphere is a bit too loud for me so I prefer outdoor seating. The staff are friendly and knowledgeable about the menu. I love the food, the Vig burger is soo good and I love the spreads last time I tried(artichoke and kale, edamame hummus and pimento cheese) all of them are delicious. I didn’t like the chicken bao, used to be my favorite but now the sweetness is overpowering the whole thing

Recommend: Breakfast and service were great, will come again. Had to wait 20 mins on a busy Saturday, but with the number of people there and waiting to get a table the turnover was actually pretty fast. DJ was playing loud inside, but that's the vibe of the place.

The food and drinks are good (albeit overpriced) but the owners charge a ‘3% surcharge’ on the bill. Not sure why they do that and seems scummy. So I just take that 3% off the waiter/waitress tip, you’re only screwing over your own employees ownership :)

Good standard American food. The salads with chicken are really filling and well made. My friend liked his pasta. Minus one star for the host seating a family with a small child using loud iPad with no headphones directly behind us in an otherwise empty dining room. Could not hear ourselves talk. Would have stayed for another drink but it was annoying so we left.

Food was great and made just right. Loved the atmosphere overall. Good amount of seating. No wait. Tons of drink options. Only thing is the music is a little loud but not to the point where you can't have a normal conversation. Was able to park a self parking garage right around the corner.

NOT pictured are my burger, fries with garlic aioli and my BF's salmon BLT. We were being greedy and didn't get a picture. I don't like that a sandwich is $22 and doesn't come with fries or a side. The friendly atmosphere paired with the amazing food calls for 10/10 would recommend !! Definitely a restaurant in downtown Chicago with a nice vibe to it that you should try out :) Pictured: mac and cheese which was delicious. Behind the mac and the main event, is the Moroccan Turkey Burger which you definitely have to try !

Great food, atmosphere and service! We had a reservation and were able to sit right down upon arrival. We tried the corn fritters, chicken sandwich, Moroccan turkey burger (sub veggie Beyond Burger) and the “As-If” oatmeal ice cream sandwich. Everything was great. Big menu of beers and seasonal cocktails. Highly recommend!

Emily was an excellent waitress. The service was great. The bacon brussel sprouts.... WOW. I could eat these every single day. Flash fried amazingness. Great options of salads, maim courses, appetizers, sides. Something for everyone. But don't think twice, order 3 servings of bacon brussel sprouts. Thank me later.

We had been hearing so much about “The Vig Burger” that we had to come try it after Lent. It did not disappoint! Wow... we also had a big appetite. We got fries, chicken parm sandwich, and the lobster roll. Honestly, the lobster roll wasn’t that phenomenal. The fries and dipping sauces were great tho!

  • Estefania Diaz

It was good. It had some really yummy dishes and some mediocre. Their was a new drink menu which was clearly new. The sangria was a the sweetest sangria l've ever had. We had to water it down. Meatballs were good. Chicken park sandwich was really the way to go. Mac and cheese also had nice flavor.

We were here for a double date. Everyone got something different so we could all try as much as possible. It was all delicious. The atmosphere was very trendy, dim lighting, younger crowd overall, meaning groups in their early to mid twenties. Walkable distance to The Second City comedy club.
