My Family and I often visit this cinema for our viewing experiences. Prices are reasonable, it's easy to get to, clean facilities and great staff. This was displayed today when my family and I were watching a movie and there were 3 young teenagers sitting behind us who were talking through the whole movie (Which includes constant swearing and making fart noises in certain scenes) and were kicking the row of seats that we were sitting on. My mother asked them once to stop, they didn't and then I asked them to stop, which only lead to more frequent kicking at a faster pace. I then left the cinema to request staff to help fix the problem. At the desk, I had barely finished my sentence before a young male staff member grabbed his phone, to turn on the light and walked into the cinema and asked me to point them out. He gave them a warning and told me to come back out if they continued their behavior. They stopped after he talked to them and my family and I were able to enjoy the film. A great cinema for everyone.
This is my local cinema. I've been going for years. It use to be a terrific place, clean, a section with tables & chairs to enjoy a coffee with friends whilst you wait for your session. They even rented space to restaurants in the past so you could enjoy a meal prior or post movie. Not anymore, for a long time now. The ownership changed, the management has a lot to be desired & they've let the when place get run down & look tardy. The outside could do with a real clean & lift. And it would be great to get back to how it use to be, holding special movie events, and come on, earn some money for the place by renting out your extra space to a food outlet/restaurant so we can get back to enjoying a whole movie experience again with our friends & Family. No brainer really to get the cash flowing again to do the joint up. At least the seating in all 3 cinemas are still comfortable & we still get a cool big imax screen to watch the latest release movies on.
We are regular visitors now we have moved to The Blue Mountains, more often in fact than when we were on the Northern Beaches. The Edge is a bit shabby and the faux "IMAP" screen is grainy and way too big unless we sit at the very back . . . which we think would normally be the front row in another venue. We much prefer the upstairs cinemas; smaller and more comfortable. There is always parking space, underneath if it is raining with a lift that is working most of the time. Coffee can take an age but the staff are friendly if somewhat in "coping" mode. They need to make an effort to make the reception area more welcoming and warm - it is rather like walking into a hanger and not exactly theatrical. Good value though.
The staff are friendly and lovely. The cinema itself is great, but the sound quality is just terrible. When you're watching a movie you want to feel like you're actually part of the action on screen and when the sound is so muted and the dialogue is so soft that you are straining to understand the words that are being said, there is absolutely no way that you can lose yourself in the moment of what is happening on screen. This has happened a few times at the cinema now where I've gone out and asked them to adjust the sound and it has made no difference. What's the point of having a GMAX screen if you can't hear it?
We went to see Nomadland yesterday in cinema 4 and was very disappointed at the quality of the screening. All through the film there were blue spots all over the screen whilst the movie was playing. It was not able to be ignored and really ruined the whole experience of that movie. Also there was a big stain on the screen as well. One of the workers there said it was because it was an old projector. When you pay $16 per ticket you expect a certain standard such as to be able to see it! So disgusted that the company continues to use that room to rake in their money at the cost of the customer's experience.
A rather sad looking place in an unfortunate location...but it could be much, better if the management cared . And the local people deserve better. The foyer is a huge impersonal barn full of pinball and other machines and the toilets are, well, a disgrace. Hidden away in what appears to be a storage area, at peak times there are queues for the run down facilities. One stall and two urinals (one out of order) for the gents. Basin taps broken or not working. Whoever r runs the United chain needs to come and look at what they're offering here.
Cinema is ok. Staff seemed a bit frazzled behind the counter and not sure why you would buy tickets online when you still have to stand in a queue with everyone else. Snacks are the usual selection and prices as per cinema. Tickets and snack bar organisation could do with some review to get people through quicker. Stairs to cinemas might be an issue for those with poor mobility. Didnt see any staff checking tickets as we entered our cinema either. Seating is first in first choice but chairs are comfortable enough.
I honestly wish whoever owned the place didn't just treat it like a tax write off. Toilets are damaged and disgusting, you can literally smell them before you even see the door. The arcade machines have been there so long that the prizes have sun rot. Pop corn is stale 90% of the time and a good half of the place is used like a storage unit. How the staff remain happy and friendly is honestly beyond me but I salute them for their efforts. The owner however should feel deep personal shame.
It’s a tired looking cinema that’s in need of proper maintenance and a refurb. Currently sitting in cinema 4 on one of the hottest weekends on record and CANNOT even feel any aircon and it’s absolutely stuffy and hot, making this movie experience REALLY uncomfortable and unpleasant. This will be the last time I’ll take anyone here till United cinemas decide to show considerable improvement. I’d rather travel to Hoyts than support this rundown and unloved place. It’s an embarrassment.
A cinema in a nice spot in Katoomba, with pretty affordable prices compared to some of the bigger chains. Unfortunately it is a bit tough around the edges and could do with some love. It is a shame how tired the places looks, it wouldn't need much to be great. Especially with the big screen as an attraction. It would be 3 star review but the prices are affordable so it gets 4. Will continue to go to the edge and hopefully in the future it will get a spruce up.
Best place to watch the latest releases in the Blue Mountains. From years of neglect, United Cinemas have come in and made a huge impact, improving the experience of watching the latest films on.. wait for it..a giant IMAX size screen. Of course, if that's not your cup of tea, numerous smaller screens are available for the older titles. All that plus very helpful staff, decent selection of your favourite popcorn and choc tops. Something for everyone.
Excellent service. Very clean for a cinema. Spacious lobby and broad assortment of arcade games available with which to entertain oneself. Satisfactory movie selection available - including all expected major titles. Wonderful staff, especially Nathaniel, Jude, Daniel and Peter. Great range of advertisements before the movie (I now know where to get my chocolate bullets!!). Overall, a wonderful experience. Will definitely return.
New seating is comfortable. Clean in cinema & restrooms. Bit slow with service at peak times but staff are very friendly. Has all latest releases & plenty of seating. They often have feature nights which are a fun night out. Lift from lower carpark makes it nice & easy for those needing wheelchair access or have mobility issues. My favourite cinema in the mountains & much better than Penrith. No yahoos to spoil your night out.
This is a great cinema. Really nice staff, great choc top ice cream and a good selection of the latest movies. Best of all the big blockbusters are shown on the huge iMax sized screen in the main cinema. Well priced too. Would be good if the Blue Mountains City Council could put some street advertising signs up where the cinema could advertise its movies so that all the tourists would know what’s on there.
Have seen a couple of movies recently. The cinemas aren't cleaned the best and the cleaning sign gets left on the door so people are left waiting outside when they shouldn't be. The lens in the Max theatre needs cleaning, as you can see spots on the screen, which takes away from the visual experience. They also need to keep the heaters on, as by half way through the movies it is freezing in the theatre.
When you are here at night you can see the old chairs etc in the storage area through the front windows which does nothing for the atmosphere. It's pretty bleak from the outside. One of the women's toilet sink is still broken after months and there is a huge crack in the walks. It feels a bit neglected to me. Nice, friendly staff though. Room for improvement.
A relatively old looking place. Came here for a movie and played a game of pool. The arcade facilites were very over priced though and we skipped it over. The actual theatre was huge with an enormous screen. Over here it's free seating so early birds enjoy the best views. Good luck if you're relegated to the front seat ..
It looks a bit dodgy from the outside, but inside the cinemas are fantastic and look refurbished. Sound and image are top notch and the GMAX is absolutely massive - bordering in size on the Darling Harbour IMAX. Seats are comfortable and clean and staff are very pleasant. It’s great to have a local cinema this good.
Went to the cinema here for the first time in a long while. Totally surprised to see Cheap Tuesdays was still a thing! Great service, friendly staff and wonderful cinema. Remember when you used to go out to the movies in the 80's and 90's? This is where to go to have that treasured experience again!
They really need to fix the toilets. Most don't work, bathrooms look terrible and they need a good clean. No hand towels and the hand dryer is on it's last legs. Some sinks don't work. A renovation is required for both Female and Male toilets. The cinema itself is great and the staff friendly.
Great quality theatre with large capacity. The seats are comfortable, the staff is friendly, and the overall movie-going experience is good with no complaints. Parking is a bit funny in front since nobody follows the one-way road and it is effectively two-way, but not a major issue at all.
Great cinema. Staff are friendly, efficient and helpful. The large gmax screen is great for seeing high res movies like Avatar. It's not 3D but I love that I don't have to leave the mountain to see the latest movies and some great independent stuff at a better price than larger chains.
The staff is always friendly and helpful. The cost of movies in Australia has gone off the scales and this is one place that has kept prices affordable. The screens, seating and coffee are all noteworthy. I appreciate going to a nice venue and not feeling like I am being ripped off.
The staff were nice, but it was old and seedy inside. The sound quality was poor. I think I missed a third of the speech in the movie. Thankfully I am well acquainted with the story, otherwise it would not have made sense. The bathrooms were clean, but several things were broken.
Good new seats but the ladies bathrooms have been in dire need of renovation and repair for at least the last 5 years. It has one hand drier which only blows cold air and the lighting only lights some of the cubicles. Also there is a missing lock on the door of the cubicle.
Really love the fact they play old movies. The edge always has the current movies too. Big screen is great. But maybe need to block off every second row of seats, a couple sat directly behind me and my son which was definitely too close to maintain social distancing.
The main theater is great, good sound, comfortable seats and a huge screen. Other theatres are your standard fair. All of the usual snacks etc are available as well as barista coffee and some alcoholic drinks (for date night). Staff are friendly and helpful.
Soooo much better than Hoyts. Huge screen and seats are laid out like at the old Imax. There's a small arcade in the lobby like the old cinemas had. Hardly anyone there which makes it much more enjoyable. Will always go here instead of Hoyts from now on.
great to still be able to have a proper movie experience. felt covid-safe but not over-the-top in security. everyone wearing masks but lots of social distancing and no crowding. So nice to be able to see big screen movie on the big screen, safely.
Best cinema ever! Went to see a movie with my fiancee and we were the only ones there. We need to go there more as a community to keep our cinema going. Its quite a lot cheaper than going to the movies in Sydney, from my own experience anyway.
I attended The Edge cinema yesterday & it was the most disgusting cinema I have ever been to. There was rubbish everywhere, in the aisles and on the seats. Nobody had bothered to clean it between sessions. The toilets were filthy & the lift
My first time at the cinema was incredible. The calm, sedated and peaceful atmosphere was felt from the moment I walked in. The playing of ‘Hocus Pocus’ was honourable and more than enjoyable, not to mention to exquisite video film clip of
Great cinema. The theatre had great screens, great sound quality and comfortable seating. Popcorn was tasty. Prices are great, especially compared to what you pay in Sydney. Highly recommend if looking to watch a movie in the Blue Mountains
Clean, warm, and kept to the covid safety. Choc top needs an easy to open covering. After our 2nd visit we now ensure one of us brings scissors with us in our handbag . There were 4 ladies and we all tried to get that plastic tag tie off.
Went there to watch a movie with the grandkids they had fun playing on the machines and my almost 2 loved the motor bikes she is a little rev head plus they loved the bowling machines I wouldn't mind one in my house lol great day out
Haven't visited here for years but very pleasantly surprised! Great screens, cheap tix, very friendly service, cool arcade games too. Bit grungy but it's character. Awesome having such a good local cinema in Katoomba.
The Gmax is great. Very friendly staff and prices are far better than other multiplex cinemas. Choc tops are great especially the blueberry, it’s a shame it looks so run down outside. That aspect needs addressing.
Only one toilet on the first floor when there are cinemas upstairs is a bit of let down. The service staff are friendly and the chairs are comfortable and tickets are reasonably priced. Just need a loo upstairs...
Happy, helpful staff. So nice. Beautiful experience of a movie in the Blue Mountains - saw "Cruella." Fun, light, humorous movie - Lindon in the 80s (??) and great music. "These boots were made for walking ...!"
Very friendly and helpful staff. The arcade games at the venue are a bonus. I notice a few people have commented on poor sound quality, I've never noticed a problem and I've been going there for 7yrs.
This cinema must be a rax deduction as a loss for the owner on United Cinemas. It has such wasted potential. Install a restaurant or a proper cafe! You have great views. It is convenient
Love this place. Very comfortable cinema seating and sound and screen quality are good. Staff are friendly and welcoming. Also has a fun arcade with great games. Even has an art gallery.
We love this cinema and go frequently. It has friendly staff, is clean and there's a good selection of treats! Also you get a free Tim Tam with your cuppa. Great indoor entertainment.
Love "The Edge" cinema. Great environment. Lovely staff, Covid safe. Oh yum the Choc tops. Magnificent place to see a movie. 4 cinems. Great parking and not far from the station
Really nice cinema's. They are clean and comfortable and the seating has plenty of leg room. The staff are very friendly and the choc tops and Pop corn are delicious.
Great experience apart from my partner and kids we had two other people in the cinema not packed could sit where ever we wanted nice and clean will visit again
Great movie, Avatar. I arrived just in time so missed the "back stalls" and had to sit closer to the front! Eye strain after two hours. Get there early.
The movie cinema is in need of a bit of tlc. Staff is friendly and helpful and pricing is ok. Choice of movies not ideal for this IMAX style screen.
cinema staff were mid and lame cuz they didn’t let hs in to an MA movie, although two of the guys were super chill and cool. Pool table is sick.
The most comfortable cinema in the Blue Mountains, love getting a big cuppa tea to take in saw finding the voice last night it was brilliant!
We love the cinema at Katoomba, this place has so much potential. Always a fabulous experience, we just hope to see it grow into itself.
Spacious, well-staffed local cinema with lots of parking, games for kids, adults and/or families...and tastiest buttered cinema popcorn.
Need to improve ticket collection for online bookings. We had to queue up in the same line as over the counter booking.
The biggest screen I have seen, extremely clean, friendly staff and affordable. Will be back next weekend to see Thor
Cheap and cheerful, never crowded, a bit run down and not so great snacks. But much much better than nothing.
Went with a client to watch the barbie movie didn't like the movie but cinema was spotless and staff friendly
Mad cinema! Very quiet, basically had the whole place to our self. Never very busy. Highly recommended!
was horrible customer service couldn’t pick the phone up for about an hour, was hanging up on me.
Always have a great time here. Staff are nice and friendly. Cinema and toilets are always clean.
Ken honestly say, my Barbie experience was Alan-mazing. Worth the drive for the I-Max screen!
I love this cinema. It's small yet big ☺️ I am looking forward to catching more movies here.
25th May 2018. Not Happy Jan I seem to be missing about 50 points from my movie pass.
I enjoyed the film I saw at this Cinema. Here is the a list of positives and negatives:
