In my four years of attending the University, I have never had a smooth visit to the UWinnipeg Bookstore. The store itself is undersized, cramped, and not designed in a way that keeps people in line out of the way of current shoppers. The store is almost always understaffed, which leads to massive lineups unless you either go extremely early or extremely late. Staff are remarkably unhelpful, and it is next to impossible to contact the store by phone during normal operating hours. The transition to remote learning has only exaggerated the issues with this bookstore, and has been the cause of unnecessary frustrations for both myself, and undoubtedly other students too. The bookstore rarely has enough books in stock to meet student demand. This can lead to exceptionally long backorder times, and even then you can experience additional difficulties when ordering online. I have received loose-leaf covers of books when I explicitly ordered a hardcover copy, for instance. Guest accounts also cannot review their purchase information, which is troublesome should someone have to request a refund or, in my case, is shipped the wrong version of a textbook. Many of their other policies are also backwards. I despise the fact that some products are non-returnable, which basically robs waitlisted students or those who have to drop the course. I hate that they constantly push rentals, possibly as a way to charge late return fees and milk students for even more of their money. I do not understand how this bookstore continuously fails to operate at a functional level. I do not understand how they fumble some of the most basic aspects of running a business (forecasting demand ESPECIALLY). I strongly recommend students either purchase the books directly from the publishers, or look online for copies. Even if purchasing the books through these channels may cost more, it is worth it to avoid the incompetence of this store.

Aditi, whatever her name is the most ignorant and rude person that has ever worked costumer service(in my experience) I waited in line and asked for help, she had asked another staff working and because she wasn’t able to locate the textbook I was inquiring she had asked a second staff for the where-abouts. Once the textbook was located she told me she will help me out at the register and in the midst of us both walking back she stopped to have a conversation with one of the staff and while I was waiting in front of the register she had told the next person in line she can help them then looked back at me and said “oh I didn’t know you were in line” as I stood in front of the register while I had been waiting there till she had finished her conversation. Horrible experience and truly believe this is not the position nor responsibility this young girl should be taking on. Topping things off she threw the receipt down while chatting up with another cashier in the midst of me asking for a bag for the text book, she had brought the bag then told me it cost $3.. would have been great to know before wasting my time. Today when I went to this bookstore another person who had asked for a bag was offered a plastic bag and when not able to find one the lady helping that person went above and beyond to get him a box. Good to see not all staff working here is rude and futile as Aditi. Unfortunate that 1 star is the Lowest rating able to give as feedback.

if i could give negative stars i would. they over charged me by 12.09....they charged me 53 dollars for a book that has a U of W pricetag that says 41.50. i am aboriginal. so after calling them on thursday and leaving a message about the overcharge they never called me back. and because i am aboriginal i am worried that if i go without calling first they will just say im lying and call security and i will be charged with trespass because they ripped me off. (this has happened before...at other places more than once.... the police are an easily used weapon against first nations) natives are not natural thieves...natives are not natural liars... however, it seems i have paid the price of that bull my entire life. this time it cost me 12.09...racist tax for daring to shp there. THERE IS NO JUSTICE IN A GENOCIDE. and i tried to post a picture of the price tag on the book of 41.50 and the bill that proves i was forced to pay 53. but...the pic wont post i dont think spending 200 bucks at a book store should leave me feeling so shameful and hurt. is paying the stated price too much to ask??? is being native too hard for non natives to serve? should i be automatically overcharged for because its too hard to treat me like a human being?

Terrible. Order books online because its the recommended way to do it, thanks to COVID. Takes over a week to get them ready for pickup. Find out later, that if I was LESS prepared, I could have just walked in off the street and got the books off of the shelves, because for some reason those copies weren't put aside for the online orders (?!). After over a week, FINALLY get email for pickup. No available times. Can't pickup today. Can only pick up tomorrow after classes. Which is, by the way, a few days PAST when I'm supposed to have read some of them and done assignments. Essentially, some books that I have paid for will be completely useless to me when I get them because this bookstore is incapable of handling their business in a timely or even proper manner. I've essentially paid for books that I'll have to pirate in order get my school work done in time. Absolutely terrible.

Text books are a scam. Look it up. I got all A's and B's and hardly glanced at my text books. Some of you will need them, but I can bet the majority of you wont. Go to the used, student run book store if you have too, they sell on consignment and most of the money goes right back to the student. Go on amazon, sometimes you can get the text book super cheap that way. Never worry about getting the current edition, they update them every couple years just enough so that the page numbers are no longer the same for when readings are assigned, but you can easily figure out an older copy. Use your own judgement, but just know that many instructors will assign you text books and then never ask that you use them, maybe it makes their course look better to the higher ups, I dont know.

I've never had trouble at this bookstore before since I was always just in and out, or if I did need help the staff were always very helpful. However, today (Jan 11th) around 11-11:15 am, when I went to pick up my books, the lady that "helped" me had terrible attitude. I didn't hear her the first time so I said "sorry, what do I need to show you again?" and she sighed and said aggressively "your order number. The last 5 numbers". I gave it to her and she went to look for my stuff. When she came back she rudely dropped my books on the counter. Terrible, terrible service. If I could give a 0 specifically to this lady, I would.

I’ve both worked at this store as a seasonal employee and been a student at the university of Winnipeg - can conclude that they do their utmost to help their students and customers as they fully understand they would ultimately be helping themselves. I’m glad to find this kind of customer-oriented management in a university bookstore where they don’t actually need to be so overly helpful - we are forced to buy the books to take the class no matter what! So kudos to these guys always putting us first! Thanks for your hard work!!

Lots of fun merchandise if you're a University of Winnipeg Student. In addition to school branded books, clothes and supplies, they carry all the textbooks you will need and also have a small fiction selection of popular novels. Be aware that their used selection is small, and unless you go the first day they open, you probably won't be able to get a used copy of your book. Lines are also huge at the beginning of a semester, so go early if you need anything from there for the first couple weeks.

  • Sydney Leech

The staff are very helpful so thank you guys! But I've been waiting on textbooks my professors ordered in May and they still haven't arrived and it's coming into the third week of classes. Could be just one of those things, but hopefully they come in soon! Otherwise the bookstore is always great except for the line!

  • L D

Their online ordering system is awful, requiring sometimes up to a week to process an order of a book that is IN THE STORE. Their trade-in program is shameless, offering 20-30% of what they will turn around and sell said traded-in book for. I understand stock levels are factored into this, but really..?

  • grace perreault

When ordering text books online be careful to read closely. I paid extra for a printed copy of the textbook on loose leaf!!! Instead of just getting digital. Waited outside for 20 minutes and couldn't get a hold of anyone via phone to pick it up while on my lunch break.

  • Retsu Unohana

I like studying at UofW b/c is convenient for me personally. The textbook at the bookstore are pricey and a person like me going broke cause I have to paid for a lot of thing. I'm not a middle class or higher just a regular guy scrape to get by

  • Margaret Gehman

Well organized, easy to find your books or anything else you're looking for! Their UW sweaters and shirts are very nice. My suggestion is look for your schoolbooks elsewhere though, you'll get better prices.

  • Mike

The staff is friendly and knowledgeable. Can help you order books in if not in stock. Only down fall is price of books are really expensive. Not staff fault.though.

  • Kimber Munford

I work here so maybe I'm a bit biased, but the service is great and we try our best! Shame about the textbook prices but that's up to publishers, not us

  • G F

It's fine. Helpful staff. Books are easy to find. Text books are always going to be pricey but everything else in the store is overpriced.

  • Abdul Basit

Double standard on their price match policy. They want you to get the gift card for the difference in price and spend it in their shop.

  • Kasra Taherkhani

It has all of the text required for the university of Winnipeg . But it's overpriced, match the prices with Amazon.ca

  • Racheal Sherred

Get your stuff on amazon or the distributer. It's cheaper and just the same. They up price things here for profit

  • Rajeev Ranjan Singh

The staff is helpful and new as well as used books are also available for rent , which is an economical option .
