First let's talk about the staff. 12 year vet bartender named Timmy.. He is a major anchor at this amazing libations and liquor/beers/ wine establishment. You can undetstand this is no rookie menu.. 10 -12 pages of food and Fine Beverages. As a past Harrah casino in Opener in Auckland N.Z. Ran #1 RESTAURANT in N.Z.. A Manager in a top 20 hotel in the world.. Endless F&B expetience and back ground I was just taken aback at the interior decor.. So much to take in.. A visual beer tap play ground. Talk about later. Then the Hostess MS. Tyonna.. So beautiful and cogenial.. Eye candy at front door. Then shook. Ryan's hand.. He was stand offish at first.. Although..Im a pro at introductions.. He was off.. The huge rooms were beautiful.. Including penny coin walls.. The copper looked great.. I went there on a client suggestion.. Didnt eat.. The menu beverage OVERWHELMING to a layman.. Lol , not I. I have a numbet of pic for you to view.. A 2 thumbs up.. and age and attire not important.. Dress comfortably. Also pics of the immediate breweries and restaurants (row).. Tourist area.. GjMalboeuf.. DO NOT DO IT!!! This was a horrible experience. While the house was a great tribute to the family, it was dirty with mold on the backs of the couches. Spiders everywhere with a huge spider that crawled down the wall. We left after an hour or 2 there. The smell hits you as soon as you walk in. At first I thought it was just the age, but realized it was the mold and filth. In addition to all this the lisence was expired!! I spoke with the renter and he said he would reimburse my nights. Of course I never saw anything and now he fails to answer my texts. He even asked me to not bash him on reviews. Well I have waited since July with no refund. Sorry about revealing the truth.

I wish I could give it a better rating because the house itself is really cool. There's a lot of history and cool things to look at. Now the biggest downside. The smell. I walked in and had to pretty much walk right back out. I instantly got sick. It smells like the entire house is covered in mold behind the walls. Not ok. This shouldn't be rented out to people as it could really make someone sick. I'm pregnant and we asked for a refund because we both felt it to be unsafe to breathe that in for me and my first unborn child. No refund was given. Shocker. It's awesome that you care more about money then the well being of your guests.

I always like Lynyrd Skynyrd band and I'm glad to see that someone is refurbishing the house bringing it back up making it nice again because that's where Ronnie and Johnny Van Zant brothers and his Dad grew up at in Jacksonville and I think I read where it's available for rent if you want to rent it for two days or more? minimum was two days and that's what they're doing now with it strictly as a rental home temporary short visits that type thing a chance to live in the home Ronnie van Zant & family grew up in. Complete remodel brand new furnishings,

Stayed here with my family in July. What an awesome experience. I would definitely recommend it to anyone and look forward to visiting again. My favorite was sitting on the screen porch as it rained and thinking about what it was like for Ronnie and the band growing up here and the legacy they left behind in their music. What a great experience, and of course, meeting Gene Odom was icing on the cake.

I understand why this house has its appeal. That’s why we booked it. HOWEVER the owner ruins it. THE OWNER, Todd Smith, IS INCOMPETENT AND HAS NO business dealing with the public. Apparently I interrupted his LIFE when we arrived..enough that he resorted to holler and curse at us because he was having a bad day and didn’t wanna be bothered. He failed to realize his end of the bargain. As for the updates, do not expect much! It’s not worth it.

  • Rita Martin

The house had the old smell could understand that as it's an old home. The mold and filthy bathtub was not expected but the roaches was a deal breaker. No thank you. The owner was very nice and accommodating but after reading reviews I'm guessing I'm out of my money and he will not be so nice now. Walked in and the only pictures I got was the roaches.

On a small corner of Jacksonville's west side is the Van Zant House. Home of bandmembers from Lynard Skynard. The home is a ranch style house with a circle drive. The home has security cameras all over the place and there is limited parking across the street with deep ditches on both sides.

After reading the marker in front of the house, they got it wrong. Bob Burns, out of his own mouth said the baseball hit him in the back of his shoulder and knocked his breath out. Its Gary Rossington who has always said they "thought" it hit him in the head, but it wasnt. Pretty sad when you put up an awesome marker like that and they cant get it right. It NEEDS to be changed.

Couldn't get any good pictures of the house because of all the trees that have grown up around it. Did not have a opportunity to go inside the fence, much less the house. It was all locked up, and no one around.

So awesome you can place your feet on the grounds of this family home. Southern Rock legends !!!! We enjoyed our week here. Fans place special things in the home for all to enjoy. Best sunrise and coffee on the family porch.

  • Johnny Ringo.44

There is a lot of history in the area if you just do a little research I recommend one of Gene Odom's videos then visit the west side where the Shantytown of Lynyrd Skynyrd resides I most definitely recommend Criswell Park

  • Jennifer Maddox

Full of black mold. You can smell it. My husband did maintenance and got mold sickness from the property and the trailer behind it is full of mold also. The owner does not care and does not want to address it.

  • C Cameron

If you love Lynyrd Skynyrd. Go by the house. The legendary band from Jacksonville, Fl. The house is now divided into apartments now. . Still it’s cool , to know they all grew there.

I’m just reviewing the concept of being able to see a cool historical landmark from the outside — not actually staying at the house. Read some of the other sobering reviews here for that aspect ;).

  • Jason Hamilton

What this gentleman has done to preserve such a prevalent piece of music history is very admirable. Was really surprised that none of the still in existence Van Zant family had done this.

I only got to see the outside. Would of liked a tour of the inside. But can't pay! Not sure what that would cost. I looks awesome! ♥️♥️

  • Arthur Gatlin

A must see, especially if you are a Lynyrd Skynyrd fan. One can almost hear the music in the wind as you stand in front of the house.

  • Debra Aplin

How anyone can rent out this place? It was dirty and smelly . Very disappointed! We rented for 2 weeks but stayed only one night.
