*** UPDATE NOV 2023: Place is still a dump. Insanely smelly, equipment is broken, Shoulder press is still bent on the one arm, the same people hogging the squat racks for 45mins+ at 5PM everyday, treadmills don't work during loadshedding, water dispensers don't work during loadshedding, general demeanor of people are horrible(Don't dare ask someone that's been 45mins on the squat rack or smith machine how many sets they have left... ), people don't pack away their equipment after using. Aircons still non existent. AND THE MUSIC IS INSANELY LOUD IN THE WEIGHT SECTION, WHY?! People come to this gym for wifi and showers. Not to gym. **** Been at this gym for a couple of years now, and since last year when Zone Fitness closed down, the gym went backwards. Music is WAY too loud. I can't even hear my own music through my in ear pods. Equipment is ALWAYS broken. Over populated. Very bad smell most of the time. Aircon doesn't work. When you get a bench, it's a good day. Let's not even talk about the squat rack. Gym etiquette is non existent. Since Zone Fitness closed, the gym culture changed.

Virgin Active Brackenfell is an impressive gym facility that nearly hits the mark in all aspects of a great fitness center. The gym boasts a wide variety of equipment that caters to all fitness preferences, from cardio to weightlifting. The equipment is well-maintained and relatively modern, providing a quality workout experience. Staff members are friendly, creating a warm and welcoming environment. The gym's cleanliness is generally maintained to a good standard. The group fitness classes are diverse and energetic, and there's something for everyone regardless of their fitness level. Overall, Virgin Active Brackenfell provides a robust gym experience. The overall offerings and atmosphere make it a solid 4-star fitness destination.

New equipment, clean, good floors and lockers. Good selection of equipment. Not enough squat or Smith machines. I have had to wait several times during the quietest periods to use these machines. My Biggest issue by far is their INSANELY loud music. That is forced down your throat. I have to use my earphones, just to stop my ears from hurting. Loud my]usic causes hearing damage, anything above 85 DB damages your hearing. Proven known science. Even 30min. at that volume IS PERMANENTLY damaging. Just 15min. at 100dB, and at 109dB just 2min. Exposure is enough to cause PERMANENT damage. Obviously ther person,controlling the volume is too stupid to know this, but is damaging many people’s hearing. This makes me want to leave this club.

Great gym, love the pumping music. Have been here for just about 3 weeks, everything is very clean and organised. It does get very busy during 5pm-7pm, you will struggle to find a spot or open bench in the free weight section. Even though the equipment they DO have is very nice, they unfortunately do not have enough of the following: flat benches, incline benches, bar bell clamps, the own body weight (leg raise/tricep dip/pull-up) machine, barbell bench & squat machines, and ab benches. They seem to emphasize fixed-movement-type machines, rather than free weight or own body weight equipment. With that said, perfect gyms are imaginary. This is a very good gym and I'm really enjoying it!

We've been "Virgin Activers" for the most part and this Virgin Active has hands down won our hearts for sure. The most friendliest staff, quick to assist and educate - By far the most excellent service we've experienced. The manager, Kade, absolutely amazing! Makes you feel right at home and ready to rumble. His insight and advice makes you feel valued and self motivated. Also, a shout out to Tamryn for her efficient and helpful service. The gym itself is vibrant and open - I love the equipment and the cleanliness of it. Looking forward to our new journey at this branch.

So If you are looking for a place to die of heat exhaustion, then this is the place for you their air cons never work, there is always the same board in the front that say "due to unforeseen maintenance" the aircons don't work. Now I know you go to a gym to workout and break a sweat but this places so freaking hot without the aircons and lets not even mention the smell of the place due to no air cons. The staff and equipment I really can't complain about, the staff is super friendly and motivating, they have two cable fly machines (most gyms have 1).

Used the facilities for a week as I needed a place to train while staying in the northern suburbs with a family member. Decided to try out the Virgin active red in Brackenfel and what an experience. Very welcoming and friendly staff. The facilities has everything you need to satisfy your workout/exercise needs and I never had to wait for equipment due to the gym being too full. The gym is also very lively and positive vibes. Just want to thank Lee and the team at Virgin red Brackenfel for the great service. Keep up the great work guys!

The sales teams are WAY to pushy, almost to the point that we want to chose another gym. We made the mistake to give our phone numbers, and got calls at 8am in the morning on a saturday, probably about 5 calls in a week, EVEN being messaged on whatsapp ect..they should know their boundaries in my opinion. Some advice to new members, don't give out your phone numbers, unless you want to get spammed.

The absolute WORST customer service I've experienced in my life.Been trying to end my contract for months now and almost a year later I am still struggling to cancel my membership.Lost a lot of money due to airtime seeing as they do not answer their phone and even the email address is not working.No phoning back like arranged and losing money still due to this place...not impressed.

I have been at the gym since 2015 and almost nothing has changed the shoulder press is bended. There is only 3 sets of clips for the bench press bars or squat bars the other are broken the leg extension seats are broken they dont repair anything there. Even the free weights are starting to break and when you complain its always the same story they will replace it but they never do.

Start to train 3 weeks ago - still a new member. The staff is friendly and the equipment is fine, but I cannot believe that the aircons aren’t working? This has been going on for quite some time and nothing has been done to get this sorted, looking at the reviews? Either than that, all is good. Please pay attention to the aircons - this is poor management.

Was my first day today after joining. Wow the staff are amazing. I just asked a question about some equipment and then a very friendly young man by the name of Shaan ended up giving me a whole lot of useful info and showed me around some of the equipment I wasn't familiar with. Thanks allot for the help and making me feel welcome!

Virgin Red are the entry level Virgin Active gyms. They lack certain machines, example seated cable rows, lat pull down and a few benches should be added. The staff are friendly, Bertie is burning through the members calories, rapidly, always happy, positive and polite. The change rooms are always clean. Muscle can be built here.

It can get pretty crowded during peek hour 6pm -closing time... but wait there's more.. they play rave music so unless you want to workout to rave( tsk tsk tsk) bring a pair of good earphones . There's no swimming pool either. The showers are quite bad. Did I mention the really loud rave music? …

Great staff. The Grid classes are challenging, fun and a great way to have a structured training program. There is a Grid class every morning at 05:30 on week days and three on a Saturday and most public holidays. Clean showers all time round. Anything that is broken is fixed as fast as possible.

The music is always pumping, great vibe and classes! Staff and trainers are friendly and helpfull! Would definitely recommend it! Its a smaller gym without all the saunas and swimming pools but its exactly what I want in a gym. I rarely use the swimming pool and sauna anyway! Dont even miss it!

It feels very modern for a pared-down gym in the Virgin Active range. They have all the basic equipment, and the support staff are brilliant and helpful when I needed to swop my card. They have good equipment, all new. Time will tell how up to date they keep it, but I'm impressed so far.

Friendly staff and always a pleasure training there. Gym is always neat and bathrooms always clean. They do lack some essential gyming equiptment such as a wide bar to do lat pull downs but there is a machine that imitates the movement. Its a bummer as i tend to skip manchine though.

One of my first gyme, ever since I started fitness exercises I happened to fall in love with this place. A place is full of super friendly people who are there to help and encourage obesity, tummy, unfit and not good looking shapes to excise daily.

A very modern, yet affordable, health club. The active grid classes are challenging and fun. Unfortunately they share the parking lot with other popular stores so in peak times, especially winter, you struggle to find a spot close to the entrance.

Went back to the gym after a few months of not being there. Airconditioning is still not fixed and most of the equipment is broken. And the same equipment that was broken months ago is still out of order. Very disappointed.

Neat and tidy, amazing vibe friendly staff and trainers. Group exercise classes and plenty of equipment during peak times. Ride studio and a extra small studio used for yoga, Pound and other small group exercise classes.

In the beginning all was good.. Now...more equipments are broken..and not been repaired for months..no more wifi for couple of months..not all water posts are working.. Its just not how it used to be.. Just saying.

Great Virgin Active red. Gym is more basic with lesser equipment and no swimming pool. But Great equipment and you can get n Great workout there with studios, open floor stretching area and weights areas to enjoy.

Place has gone backwards over the last few years. Equipment stays broken. They do not get serviced and they don't seem to clean as often anymore. Also there never seems to be any manager after 6pm

Decent sized gym. Main issue is the air-conditioning. It's a gym where air-conditioning was not existent and the entire place smelt of sweat. It was my first and last time visiting the gym.

Not up to the other V active Red's standard. The facility needs an upgrade. Canceled my contract for this reason only - have always gotten good service from this group.

Non- standard equipment to their other gyms in the franchise. And no windows or view. All artificial lighting. I stopped going here after a while. Just depressed me.

Clean and well managed. Just not nearly enough space or equipment during peak times. I am sure it will quiet down when Virgin Brackengate 2 opens

Some members drop the weights and grunt to get attention, one specific personal trainer there also drop the weights and grunts when lifting.

Fantastic gym! Equipment is top notch especially the woodway curves and they have 3! Not to mention a couple of olympic standard barbells!

The welcoming of this gym was truly astonishing. Sibo,Tammy,Ukuhle was amazing. I signed up yesterday and I'm already seeing progress!

Quite hidden away and small. But it has the equipment you need for a full body work out as well as spin classes. Does not have a pool.

Obviously doesn't have everything the bigger clubs have but does have everything you need and lots of friendly and helpful staff.
