False advertising for events, complete time wasters. I like board games and was interested to see Waterstones Sutton promote a boardgames evening for the past several months. Unfortunately these are Fake events to waste gullible people time like mine in turning up in the wet and rain to find Waterstones doors already closed!! In March, I was told it was an upcoming Thursday, I turned up at 5.45pm and it's closed. This month, April I saw an advert stating it was today.. I turned up at 5.30pm exactly and the store was already closed, doors shut. Several people came and tried to open the doors and then left. It's raining today on 27th April and this is clearly a joke. I will not be buying anything from Waterstones Sutton ever again. The boardgames nights are 100% fake, there is no magic side/back door entrance. I observed several people trying the doors and leaving at 5.30pm very disappointed.

Overall this is a pretty good book shop and shelves are stocked regularly. But I came across a rude women who gave friend and I an attitude, since we are younger… often adults often think we are causing trouble but this is not the case. As I was reading the blurb of a book I fancied, my friend was doing one of the free word searches that are provided, a women employee approached us to say that the store would be closing in the next 10 minutes, shortly after she turned to my friend and say in a unpleasant tone she said : “um you are not aloud to lean on to the books” we all apologised very quickly and she replied “hence why the table is there” in the most rude way possible, she stared at us for a few more moments until walking off and I was stocked to be spoken to it such a tone! What a miserable women…

Have eaten at this cafe many times before. However today, me and my friend went in and were immediately yelled at for having another companies drinks. We apologised and finished our drinks and asked if there was a bin. The server said no when there was a bin right behind her. We returned after throwing away the rubbish and sat down before being yelled at for sitting there that they were not a library and we had to buy food. We had sat down for about 10 seconds and were looking at the menu. None of the other customers experienced this behaviour from this middle aged blonde woman and we can only imagine it is racially motivated. Incredibly disappointed and disturbed.

Not a great experience. I'd turned up early for something so I thought I'd kill time with a quiet cuppa in bookshop tearoom. Sounds great, doesn't it? But far from it. No problem with the other customers, who all seemed to have the same aim as me, but the two staff members behind the counter didn't stop winging and complaining the whole time I was there. So much so, in fact, that I had to chase up my teacake, which had been left sitting in the grill and which finally arrived overdone, but had now cooled, dried out and become tough as old boots. I'd have asked for another, but I'd waited for so long for this one that I didn't have any time left. Most disappointing.

I've always encountered really helpful, kind staff here! They really make visits worthwhile. Great selection of books to find from all genres. Their manga section is surprisingly expansive; I was excited to find a number of smaller mangas that aren't as renowned as Naruto. The sci-fi and fantasy sections exceed expectations as well and there're a few atlases of Middle Earth. They have great set ups of classics as well as new releases that always have some brilliant reads on there, which they update regularly. Staff are knowledgeable and can help you find anything and make recommendations.

Usually I love browsing the books in Waterstone's but on this most recent visit I was disappointed at the choice of books of my interest that were available. I am currently in a wave of enjoying women's contemporary fiction but there was little to be found. Seems an ever increasing switch to games and general tat encroaching within the fiction space. Sorry Waterstone's of Sutton, not impressed. Better choice on Amazon by a mile but I have a gift card to spend so looks like it will be over to online and click and collect from you guys or try another branch.

Exceptional customer service. I had ordered, and paid for a book for my daughter which, soon after we ordered it, went out of print. The Waterstones team checked the stock and established there was only one copy left, within Waterstones, in the UK, which was in the Windsor branch. Lizzie, a Waterstones employee, was going to a family party in the vicinity and visited the Windsor store on her return to bring the book to Sutton, allowing us to collect it locally. What a superstar. Thank you Lizzie!!

Shop was quiet it doesn't have the selection of Art crafts nor Art history books it used to have but I guess they only stock what sells and we no longer have a strongly art based college here It hasn't changed much the café is closed at the moment which is disappointing its usually very good but the staff were very helpful with my query about an internet order even though it really wasn't anything they could deal with they also took aboard my suggestions for more books

Defiantly calm and lovely atmosphere: books, silly but useful gadgets, comics, interesting referance books, holiday locations in the world and large children section. And the most lovely area, on the second floor via lift and large stairs, is the cafe with natural light from ceiling, wide space between tables, people are considerate no loud talks or shouts from children. No background noise and there's a toilet only for customers and clean... most of the time.

Poor service. Felt like I was invisible. Chap who took order and made the drink, very nice but sadly the lady taking the payment was rude. All she said to me was £2.20. She carried on talking to ladies sitting on a table opposite the counter. They were talking about Australia House and where the lady has to attend, The Polish Embassy. Conversation continued as she pushed the tray to me with my tea on it. I felt invisible and an inconvenience. Very poor show.

Today was my first time in a bookstore and of course soon as I walked in had nooooo idea what I was doing, the kind lady at the till(Do apologise didn't catch her name) helped me effortlessly to choose two books, her compassion for reading really came across and because of that Ive got two great novels to read at home. Super happy with my experience here and I shall definitely be returning to this branch to purchase many more!!!

I wanted to buy the board game dixit. I was told it was out of stock, but the member of staff advised me where else was selling it as I was desperate to but it today as it was a birthday gift for a friend. That was a very kind gesture. Thanks, I will definitely come to visit this Waterstones as the ambience in this particular one is great.

It's always a good time to go and spend time at a Waterstones! The staff was friendly and approachable. They got my order quick and handed it over to me really fast! The tables were all cleaned by the staff who made sure that everything looked great. My drink was warm and lovely. I can always rely on a Waterstones café for a relaxed time!

  • Paula Beckett

We e went there to have a cup of tea and while we were there we had a look around this is not the first time we have been in this shop. People like this store you can have a look around the thousands of books they have and if you cannot find the book or whatever you want , they can order if it is possible to do so. But they also

  • Alessandro Borrelli

Waterstones it's a great bookshop on Sutton High St. that offers not only a big range of books, but also a perfect environment to relax yourself inside the Cafe located upstairs. The staff is very kind and drinks and food are delicious and fresh. I like to spend some time here when I can. Best bookshop in Sutton.

  • Ruth Manson

I spend many a lunch hour browsing in here. The staff are friendly. It has a cafe upstairs which I have mixed feelings about. Think i'd rather just stick to books. There is quite a range of gifts including board games, stylish creativity sets and a decent range of cards. It is nice to have in Sutton.

  • Harpee

Service and cleanliness excellent but breakfast rather poor, sausages tasteless and full of cereal. The room we stayed in was fine and up to Premiers usual standard. Sutton however is now a tip and needs a good seeing to. Our room had a great view of the metropolis of Sutton.

  • Maria Teresa Monteiro Martins

Nicely sized bookshop with friendly people working there. Can find lots of different books, mostly fiction. Wish they had more selection when it comes to science books. But overall a very pleasant shopping experience. The café upstairs is also a nice hidden gem.

  • Soma Debroy

Bookstores should be exempted from ratings, truly! 5 stars always. Good collection of books here and I love the little handwritten 'Post it' about certain books..Makes you feel cozy and happy that you are surrounded by people who love books! ❤️ …

  • pokemonman211

I went in to the store and asked about a harry potter gift they had in the window the two staff at the counter were happy to help talked me through every question and honestly couldn't have been any friendlier. Keep up the amazing work lads

  • Harley Day

Excellent bookshop with café upstairs. The staff are usually knowledgeable and always friendly. The atmosphere is really relaxing, and the are lots of sofas upstairs if you want to read in the shop. One of my favourite spots to relax.

  • Lynda Tilbury

I received very helpful information in regard to a new book I was looking for. Had a wonderful Peppermint tea while there in the upstairs coffee lounge, which I could take the lift up to. It's a beautifully laid out store as well.

  • Vikram Dhar

Good bookshop in Sutton, has limited collection of books but you will get most of the popular books and bestsellers across various reading genres. If you are looking for more obscure titles go to Waterstone's in Kingston.

  • Heath Keogh

Very nice and quiet. One can unwind and relax in the café upstairs. Only downside are the school kids that are load and NOISE. But they need somewhere to do their homework. Just wish staff would advise them accordingly.

  • Allyria Dos Santos

Love the cafe, nice atmosphere just wish it had some more seats. Great range of books and comics. Best book shop anywhere nearby. Only small complaint is that some books and comics could be a little cheaper but it's ok.

  • Guerman Cope

Good layout and selection of books, gifts and trinkets. The staff are really nice and the atmosphere is very relaxed and welcoming. Has a lovely café upstairs. There is a book club on every first Thursday of the month.

  • Liam Oxford

Good old Waterstones, soldiering on in a drab, dismal Sutton. Nice selection of books and friendly staff. I wonder how long they can occupy their present site before the go the way of most of the rest of Suttons shops.

  • David Denyer

Friendly knowledgeable staff only downside is all the display tables which makes maneuvering an electric wheelchair an interesting experience. I was always worried about knocking over the books.

  • James Lambert

Meh.....a Waterstones is a Waterstones. It does have a cafe but it's under staffed so you normally wait ages for your drink/food to find when it's ready there is now no longer any seats let.!

  • Vanessa Browne

Good range of literature. Books sometimes traceable here if discontinued. Much improved section for younger folk. Good coffee shop when open. Games & diaries & a selection of topical cards.

  • Lloyd Nicholls

The staff are just really helpful and always seem to be on top of their game. I had a query which was dealt with quickly and effectively. I will always go to this shop for books first.

  • Shrey

All the staff is really friendly and there's a great selection of reads for all genres. The café is great as well and coffee is much cheaper than what can be found on the high street.

  • Karen Simkin

Good for ordering books to pick up. Helpful staff. Cafe upstairs. Nice latte. The cakes seem to be massed produced ones lately which is disappointing as they used to be much nicer.

  • Bostjan Klemencic

Very well stocked bookstore. Bought too many books there! The only downside is they don't offer any discount when you buy as many as I did, thus giving them a 4-star review.

  • Michael Dare

Fantastic branch of Waterstones, the staff from the cafe upstairs are more then willing to help you with carrying trays and food to the table. Would highly recommend

  • Lesley Parker
