The Astana Grand Mosque (Kazakh: Астана қаласының бас мешіті; Russian: Большая мечеть Астаны) is a mosque in Astana, Kazakhstan. It is the largest mosque in Central Asia and one of the largest in the world. Nazarbayev, who ruled Kazakhstan for three decades since the country gained independence in 1991, laid the foundation stone for the mosque the day before his resignation in March 2019. Nur-Sultan Mosque has already been ranked one of the world’s ten largest mosques, with the total capacity of 235,000 worshippers. Urban and Architectural The main dome of the mosque is the largest of its kind in the world. The height of the dome is almost 83.2 meters with a diameter of 62 meters. The surrounding four minarets are 130 meters and are made of five parts to symbolize the five pillars of Islam - faith, prayer, fasting, zakat and pilgrimage. One of the towers in the left wing has been opened to the public. Guests can take an elevator up and admire the view of the city. The entrance door of the mosque is considered one of the tallest wooden doors in the world, standing at 12.4 meters with a weight of one and a half tons. The material is made of hard iroko wood, which grows in tropical Africa. The doors are decorated with Kazakh patterns and the outer walls with white Arabic script on a blue background. The interior doors of the mosque are 12 meters high and the windows are made of handmade stained glass with colorful ornaments. The big hall and the women's prayer zone are fully covered with Kazakh ornamental carpets. The total area of the carpet is 15,525 square meters, making it the largest handmade carpet in the world. The total area of the land plot on which the mosque stands is ten hectares, while the total area of the holy place itself is more than 68,000 square meters. The height of its main dome is almost 90 meters, while its minarets rise at a height of 130 meters. Description The walls of the mosque and the inside of the dome are decorated with colorful patterns, verses from the Koran and prayers. The Arabic calligraphy was illustrated by Kazakh master Asylbek Baizakuly. The wall on the side facing the qibla is inscribed with the 99 names of Allah, illuminated with golden light from within. The mosaic wall is 100 meters long and 22.4 meters high and consists of 25 million glasses of different colors. The new mosque is three times bigger than the former largest Hazret Sultan Mosque also located in the Kazakh capital. With a population of slightly more than 19 million, Kazakhstan is a Muslim-majority country, with over 72 percent of the country’s overall population following Islam. More than 2,300 mosques are registered across the country. Less than 25 percent of the population of Kazakhstan is Christian, including ethnic Russians, Ukrainians, and Belarusians.

As a Google Local Guide, I had the opportunity to visit the Astana Grand Mosque in Kazakhstan, and I must say it is an impressive piece of architecture. The mosque is situated in the city of Nur-Sultan, and it's hard to miss due to its grandeur and size. The Astana Grand Mosque was opened in 2012 and is considered one of the largest mosques in Central Asia. It can accommodate over 10,000 worshippers at a time, and the overall area of the mosque is around 11 hectares. The mosque has a striking appearance, with a white marble exterior and a beautiful turquoise dome that can be seen from afar. The interior of the mosque is equally stunning, with intricate patterns and designs that adorn the walls and ceilings. The chandeliers and lighting fixtures are also noteworthy, and they add to the overall grandeur of the mosque. The mosque has several prayer halls, and each one is equally impressive. The main prayer hall can accommodate around 10000 worshippers, and it has a beautiful green carpet that covers the entire floor. One of the most striking features of the Astana Grand Mosque is its minaret. The minaret stands at 80 meters tall and is visible from several parts of the city. It's adorned with intricate designs and patterns, and it's a marvel of Islamic architecture. The Astana Grand Mosque is a must-visit attraction for anyone visiting Nur-Sultan. It's an impressive piece of architecture that showcases the beauty of Islamic art and design. Incredible Mosque - it is for sure the most modern large mosque in the world at the moment. I had the luck of visiting it as soon as it opened, probably the first South American in there too! It is incredibly modern, the ambient lights all over make it glow and the blue and white color look beautiful in the Astana sky. It also has a spacious courtyard with lots of places to sit and an incredible fountain. The artificial "trees" are modern and distinct and provide shade. It is incredibly detailed and opulent, the central Chandelier is insane and the wall with the 99 names of Allah is huge. The center room is MASSIVE, it has a beautiful and soft carpet. It is also nice that coverings for women are not highly enforced and you can generally go to the mosque without fear of getting harassed by zealots. Opinions aside it is an Incredible place, truly.

The mosque is only a few years old and a special highlight in Astana. The building is huge and beautifully designed. Besides the prayer rooms, there is a courtyard, a small exhibition and some stores. The entrance is free of charge. If you want to go up one of the minarets, you simply pay 1500 tenge per person by credit card. Women must cover up when visiting. For this, there are coats at the entrance.

Last week I've visited Astana, capital of Kazakhstan - it was my first time there. It is a very impressive building and it was my first time inside a mosque - this one belongs to 10 biggest mosques in the world and it is the biggest one in Central Asia.

It is beautiful. Reminds me of the Abu Dhabi grand mosque. The prayer halls and the corridors are majestic. Seeing this spectacular mosque surrounded by a sea of snow was quite an experience. It is located away from the busy areas of the city. This means that finding a taxi back can be an issue, especially for non-Russian speakers. You can use the Yandex app.

It's one of the biggest mosque in Asia, constructed in modern concept of mosque's a place must to visit as a Muslim if you live in this country, or travel though this country, be the witness to this mosque and pray atleast one time salah heee

Really largest mosque in Central Asia with huge facilities. The praying hall is so big one. The only problem is a long distance going from parking areas. Hopefully soon the underground parking would be available

Opened Summer 2022, this is truly a majestic mosque, wonderful to have visited so early its history. A testament to Islamic architecture and not to be missed.

This mosque is pretty impressive and just huge. But they better build schools and hospitals rather than buidling numberless mosques and apartment complexes.

Pretty nice big mosque, also an impressing view in the night, as the mosque is very well illuminated. When staying in Astana, you should visit this place.

The biggest and fabulous Mosque I have ever been. Mashaallah well built and the stuff working there also nice with visitors. Allah bless you all.
