The place is open for visitor, just make sure to dress warm enough as it is very cold especially in December and January I know that for sure No tickets booking needed; it is as I have been advised big hall used for weddings, concerts, boxing tournaments and conferences. I saw there Iraq flag when I asked i was told that they had hosted the president of Iraq The place is a must see if you ever visited Gyumri Easy access and at a very affordable taxi rate from anywhere

Black Fortress is a beautiful place to visit in Gyumri. It's located beside the Mother Armenia Statue. The Fortress is built on a high level ground, and it contains a museum underground it, but unfortunately it was closed when I was there. This Fortress has been restored and well maintained a while ago. The breeze and fresh air is so amazing in this area. The scenery is absolutely gorgeous, and you can see Mount Aragats from that area. The only problem here is that they didn't built a rest rooms for the tourist there. I recommend visiting this place.

Sev Berd or Black Fortress (Armenian: Սև բերդ; Russian: Чёрная Кре́пость, Chornaya Krepost) is an abandoned Russian imperial fortress in Gyumri, Shirak Province, Armenia. The fortress, which lies 8 kilometres (5.0 mi) from the Turkish border, was built in response to the Russo-Turkish War of 1828–1829. It is a national cultural heritage monument in Armenia.

A friend recommended this place but I didn't like it, no explanation signs or guides could speak English nor french. After all if you are near by you can pass for 20 minutes didn't need more. Note that the entrance is free

Impressive building but then there’s not much else. No historical artifacts or records, no signage. I believe it’s now used as a concert hall. Shame to come all this way and it’s just a shell.

Also known as Black Castle—this historical fortress is a must visit spot when you’re in Gyumri. I enjoyed the panoramic view from the above. Highly recommended for an evening walk.

I thought it is a real fortress and it will take me at least two hours to explore. I was shocked when I discovered that it’s an ancient theatre. Honestly not worst to visit

It's quite hard to find your way up to it, but once you're there it's nice to look around. It's a theatre inside and the views are good.

An old historical fort that is now used as an event location. I luckily stumbled upon such an event, a karate competition. It was fun to watch. You can have a great view from the outside and look to the border and the mountains. A very fun place to visit.

It's a circular building that's like a performance venue today inside or something. Free. Nothing much to see.

Interesting building. Nothing is written about it. One unfriendly “guard” was there but he couldn’t speak English. No toilet around. (Actually it was in the building but couldn’t be used)

Except the view, not too much to see there in off season.

Nice historical experience: Check the opening hours before visiting. Do not expect a guide who can speak in English to tell you more about this place, still... worth the visit!

Tip: The walking path google shows is wrong. Really nice interiors and great view pf the city and mountains. A care taker available but it had many people when I visited.

Looks good from outside but the gate was closed with no information provided about visiting times.

We couldn't get it but it's a nice view from the Soviet monument across the fortress.
