কোতোয়ালী থানার মোট আয়তন ৭.৬৮ বর্গ কিলোমিটার ১৯২২ সালে কোতোয়ালী থানা গঠিত হয়। তবে ১৯৭৮ সালের ৩০ নভেম্বর হাটহাজারী উপজেলার ১টি ওয়ার্ড এবং আরো ৬টি থানার সমন্বয়ে চট্টগ্রাম সিটি কর্পোরেশন গঠিত হয়, তন্মধ্যে কোতোয়ালী থানা অন্যতম। ২০১১ সালের পরিসংখ্যান অনুযায়ী কোতোয়ালী থানার আওতাধীন এলাকার লোকসংখ্যা ৩,০৫,২২৪ জন। পুরুষ : ১,৭৭,৫৪০ জন মহিলা : ১,২৭,৬৮৪ জন চট্টগ্রাম সিটি কর্পোরেশনের মধ্যভাগে কোতোয়ালী থানার অবস্থান। এর উত্তরে চকবাজার থানা, পূর্বে বাকলিয়া থানা, দক্ষিণে সদরঘাট থানা এবং পশ্চিমে ডবলমুরিং থানা ও খুলশী থানা অবস্থিত। কোতোয়ালী থানার আওতাধীন চট্টগ্রাম সিটি কর্পোরেশনের এলাকাসমূহ হল: ১৫নং বাগমনিরাম ওয়ার্ডের দক্ষিণাংশ ২০নং দেওয়ান বাজার ওয়ার্ড ২১নং জামাল খান ওয়ার্ড ২২নং এনায়েত বাজার ওয়ার্ড ৩১নং আলকরণ ওয়ার্ডের উত্তরাংশ ৩২নং আন্দরকিল্লা ওয়ার্ড ৩৪নং পাথরঘাটা ওয়ার্ডের উত্তরাংশ ৩৫নং বকশির হাট ওয়ার্ডের পশ্চিমাংশ

Chittagong Kotwali (Bengali: চট্টগ্রাম কোতোয়ালী) is a Thana of Chittagong District in the Division of Chittagong, Bangladesh. Chittagong Kotwali Thana is located at 22.3375°N 91.8389°E . It has 43062 households and total area 6.24 km². At the 1991 Bangladesh census, Chittagong Kotwali had a population of 246,893, of whom 159,706 were aged 18 or older. Males constituted 62.62% of the population, and females 37.38%. Chittagong Kotwali had an average literacy rate of 71.5% (7+ years), against the national average of 32.4%.

Recently the station and their team are doing very good job with leadership of OC Mohammad Mohsin. They have changed their structure, office interior, workplace, internal environment and exterior which can attract to the visitor. ১৯৭৮ সালের ৩০ নভেম্বর ১২৮ বর্গমাইল আয়তনের বন্দরনগরী চট্টগ্রামে চট্টগ্রাম মেট্রোপলিটন পুলিশের (সিএমপি) কার্যক্রম শুরু হয়। শুরুতে ৬ টি থানা, ৩০ টি ফাঁড়ি, ৬ টি বক্সের সমন্বয়ে দু’টি অপরাধ বিভাগ (উত্তর ও বন্দর) , সদর বিভাগ ও নগর বিশেষ শাখা নিয়ে সিএমপি যাত্রা শুরু করে। এ ছয়টি থানা হলো কোতোয়ালী, চান্দগাঁও, পাঁচলাইশ, বন্দর, ডবলমুরিং ও পাহাড়তলী থানা। চট্টগ্রামের প্রাণকেন্দ্রে অবস্থান এই থানার।

There are lots of police station consist in a chattagram. kotowali is famous one because its jurisdiction area is lager then any other police station. Court building , Bangladesh Bank, Laldighi Bank link road with a jail station for criminal and one of the crowed place new market depends upon it.

It's a very ancient and well known police station in Chittagong, located at the entrance of Patharghata. It was established at the time of British period. Around this police station area called Kotwali more. There Working area and work force much more powerful than the other police station.

I have been there for 2 months. It was a great place to stay they Don't beat so much if u do small crime. Overall rating: Environment was pretty good, room was big but not so clean, Food was Organic. I would like to visit again.
