They are cultured pearl, the reason why they are perfectly round is bacause the nucleus they have inserted are perfectly round 'plastic balls'(polished bead from another oyster shell) that the oyster host will coat with 'nacre'. Nothing can beat the South Sea pearls. I live in a remote seaside town in Luzon, Philippines and when we were kids, we pick white oyster we call 'katipay' containing rice pearls! Shame we dont know the value because they are natural, no human intervention, we just ate the oyster and play with rice pearls!
