I had read so many bad reviews and mixed information on this Airport before flying through it that I decided I would spend my 7 hour layover taking pictures and noting what I saw. flew through October 2018. BKK to WUH to SFO. Had a seven hour layover with China southern. Despite the horror stories I read online about WUH I found it to be just fine. It's a new terminal that looks like it is still being filled out, there are not a lot of restaurants or stores but there are a few custom whiskey shops, gift shops, Starbucks , Burger King and a handful of Chinese restaurants and massage. Had no problem dealing with the staff or the procedures. I did find that cash was the better option as most restaurants we're not set up to accept credit card payments. I never saw an ATM but there was a cash exchange. After reading many reviews I decided to bring 650 yuan (CNY) in cash. I didn't even get close to needing it all, although the extra cash came in handy for my return flight also through China. I was able to use a Visa credit card at Starbucks but only after some confusion as the cashier had four terminals, all on separate credit card networks to use. There is a way to get to downtown from the airport via a train, but I only observed people doing that, I did not do it myself. I did have to get an entry Visa even though I had no plans to leave the airport, but this did not cost me anything and the process was smooth and easy. There are many electical outlets throughout the terminal to charge my devices, that work with the standard North American plugs compatible with 110v-240v voltage (most mobile devices will work there check your plug) . In the end I ended up setting setting up shop in the Burger King Courtyard where I had access to a usb wall plug, a booth, my movies, and French fries to pass the time. The internet signal in the airport was strong but I did not use it as it required the good amount of ID and leg work to log on and I simply had no need for it. It's worth noting that services like WhatsApp, line, or most things google including email will not work in China. I did not see a place to buy a Sim card. As to restrooms they where new and clean, "Western style" , restrooms. There is free hot water and drinking water dispensers throughout. As well as shops that sell bottled water, snacks and instant soups. My take away is this: Bring yuen in cash 150 yuen per person should cover two or three decent meals for most people, If you need to use email, setup a non google email account, and forward your Gmail account to it. There are two kinds of western people who eat at a Burger King in Asia. those who are to to afraid to try anything else, and those who have been trying everything else for sometime, and are overwhelmed with joy over a fast food cheese burger. I am the latter.

Never had any problems with any custom workers until today. My phone chargers were checked out and granted clearance last week by the custom in this airport. Today, the custom in this exact airport confiscated both of my phone chargers! I explained to the custom lady that her co-worker said it was OK a week ago to carry the phone chargers on the plane. She started saying something about each country has its own regulations and my phone chargers did not comply with the Chinese regulations because the chargers are missing the 'm' for mAh. In other words, she thought each battery charger could produce 20,000 (twenty thousand) Ah!!! I really wanted to speak to her supervisor but my plane was leaving in 20 minutes. At the end, she ended up keeping my awesome chargers. My point is- the items either meet or don't meet the regulations. The custom should be consistent with the regulations. A small phone charger is incapable of producing 20,000 Ah. For those of you planning to carry phone or iPad chargers- make sure your device clearly shows the mAh value on the chargers. Otherwise, you might end up losing your chargers like I did. And yes, both of my chargers were made in China. They didn't follow their own rules. Another tip- There is an explosive item check point at the entrance at the airport. After that, there is another check point inside the airport. After the second check point, there is final check point. Allow yourself plenty of time for security check points as it is quiet common for other people to cut in front of you.

Easily the worst and most unfriendly airport I’ve ever been to. There are a total of 2 restaurants and 3-5 small stores in the entire airport that sell food/drinks and they only accept Chinese Yen. It’s absolutely absurd that any international airport in a country like China does not accept major credit/debit cards at all whatsoever. Also, for fellow Bank of America users, the only ATM is from China Construction Bank and it does not allow withdrawals from BofA checking accounts, therefore, if you don’t have some kind of currency in pocket before arriving you are out of luck. What about vending machines you say? All vending machines were out of order. I had a 4 hour layover and wasn’t able to buy any food or drink at all, whatsoever. On top of that, there is no free WiFi and no one can speak English, even at the “information booth” that advertises in English! Combine this with the fact that the Chinese customs officers at this airport are probably the least friendly people I’ve ever encountered in my life and the sooner you can leave this place the better. Overall my experience would be been more tolerable had I known beforehand to bring plenty of drinks and snacks or cash, however such a modern airport completely lacking all “modern amenities” and hospitality earns this place a 1 star rating in my book. Terrible first experience in China.

The international terminal need upgrading. This is the worst interl' terminal i had ever been to.To me the domestic terminal is far more better than the internl' terminal. The authority should put more signage indicating where the internl' terminal is located. It is very confusing when the taxi driver dropped you right at the domestic terminal and suddenly you find yourself lost with no help from the staffs as they don't speak english or not at all. When you are in at the domestic terminal you need to walk 500m or more in order to get to the intrnl' terminal. This would be a disaster if you can't find someone who can speak English and under worst case scenario you can miss your flight. It would be a great help to tourist if the staff put a little effort to learn English and this would help foreigners who don't speak their language. And also the immigration officers at the counter need to speed up the process of giving clearance to visitors who want to enter China.I noticed that some of the officers at the counter lack good attitude when dealing with foreigners. They are rude and inconsiderate. This need to change, they need to learn to respect in order for foreignsrs coming to China to trust and respect them.

November 2019: (free)(airport) WiFi requires a mainland China phone number (it will send an SMS to verify it). The only exception I found was a machine opposite gate 332 (airside) in the *International* departure area (for Macau/Hong Kong/Taipei). The machine scans your passport and prints out a username and password that can be used for WiFi sign-in. On arrival I confidently walked 3-400m down a long corridor to the transfer area only to find a small sign "warm prompt" on the locked door saying it's not open yet. Stupid that they did not cover up the many signs leading to it. Instead I *had* to enter China, check in and then exit again. I had no visa but they gave me a temporary local visa stamp in my (UK) passport (YMMV). It was not until I entered landside, checked in and entered (international) airside that I was able to access the Internet. Not convenient, especially as I wanted to download the pdf ticket for check in and even for entering China (it was booked only a few hours before because another airline's plane could not fly and they booked me on this other flight via China at the last minute - I was totally unprepared and had not planned to be in China at all).

Wuhan Tianhe Airport is a testament to the city's modernization and its status as a central transport hub in China. The airport is spacious and well-designed, ensuring a smooth flow of passengers even during peak times. Signages are clear, both in Chinese and English, aiding in easy navigation for both local and international travelers. Facilities are up-to-date, with a variety of eateries and shops to cater to different tastes. Waiting areas are comfortable, with ample seating, charging stations, and free Wi-Fi, ensuring passengers can rest and stay connected. However, as with many major airports, there can be occasional delays and it's advisable to check flight statuses before arriving. Overall, Wuhan Tianhe offers a pleasant travel experience, reflecting the vibrancy and efficiency of Wuhan itself.

The international terminal is a wasteland. As other people have pointed out, there is like 1 restaurant and a couple convenience shops, which only take Yuan, Chinese bank cards, and NFC transactions from such banks. There isn't even an ATM inside the terminal, nor a place to exchange money! Oh and if you have a transfer flight here, make sure to print off something or save an email as "proof", because being on the damn flight roster and knowing flight number isn't enough, but showing something that can be easily faked counts.

  • Dan Zeng

My favorite airport to fly to and from (other than Chicago O'hare and Beijing PEK), staff there new ok English to communicate well, lots of small shops to buy small traditional snacks and foods, flat escalators to move you through the terminals, clean bathrooms and nice staff. Best of all, free cold, warm, and hot water dispensers everywhere! ***Edit:Now that they've completed the new terminal, there are much more shops, restaurants, and extremely modern facilities.

  • Lai May

Just arrived this airport 1 hr ago. Terrible experience!! No clear information about the luggage pick up when arrive. The crew around the pick up area were rude and keep shouting to people to ask them move away. AND!!The local taxi drivers were picky and raise the fares drastically, even several traffic police just opposite to them. That means the police is useless.

  • Kevin Guo

The newly built T3 is really nice and a huge improvement over the old terminal. No one speaks English but the signs do a good job to direct you on your way. The terminal isn't too big but all the gates are in far four corners of the airport except for international flights so be prepared to walk up to 10 min. from security to gates.

  • Toshiya Nakamura

I used int'l - int'l transfer. When you get off the plane and enter the terminal, you see the sign of "International Transfer" but it hasn't worked yet. Should proceed "Arrival" and clear the passport control. then go to departure floor, and checking in to the connection flights. You need to enter China once even the transfer.

  • Cyrus C

Transportation: Taxi RMB50 around from Town to airport, good metro connection to town. Floor plan: clear instruction, only 1 building for all domestic and international flight good lighting and decor few shops inside the Gate and restricted area. Only one coffee shop and cafe for international flight

  • Robert Clarke

One of the worst international airports I've ever been to. If you can't speak Chinese avoid this airport. The staff don't speak English and if you are not being picked up you must walk 10 minutes down the road to the domestic airport to find a taxi or bus! It then takes over 90 minutes to reach the city!

  • Tayard Desudchit

Terminal 3 for China Southern flight. Very crowded and noisy. No space to sit when you first arrive. Allow to get to check in area two hours before flight. Confusing check in with people cutting the line in and out.(Tour agents and their customers). Average immigration and security. Helpful ground staff.

  • Gabriel Bascou

  • Jake B

if you are connecting flights then its not very well marked and clear, don't panic though as staff are very helpful and speak good English. I have only connected at this airport once but it's very modern with plenty of shops and food places. Its very clean & passport control was very fast.

  • Archit Ojha

What an experience visiting this airport. One of the best airports I have been to. The staff is most courteous and the place is so spacious. I didn't have to face any problem here. Everything is systematic and issue of transit visa is also smoothly explained and done.

  • Kn ZAG

This airport is very big, so you don’t get very crowded inside like Pudong airport. It is also an international airport, for selected destination. There are many shops inside, including Halal Xinjiang Restaurant. It is located about 30minuts from city center of Wuhan

  • Evgeny Mekhanoshin

Clean, but not enough seats at waiting zones. Not all is labeled in english so you’ll have to guess.. store staff does not speak english (!). Also some does not accept foreign credit cards (international airport?!). Hope to never be here again..

Bandara ini lumayan besar. Jadi datanglah awal. Gate nya juga panjang perjalanan. Makan cukuo mahal. 4 potong kecil ayam macdonald 25 Y. Ada minum air gratis di tempat tunggu. Tp ga ada gelas. Karena budaya mereka membawa termos air kemana mana.
