Last year, because we needed to be in Taiwan, we enrolled our son who was in grade 3, in Taipei Acton. It was the best education decision we made for our son. We experienced how powerful the Acton model is, and how well Jenny and Steward led the school. They are true educators who have genuine heart for the children, with vision and passion to empower heroes who can change the world. They really live and model the noble values they teach. Our son really enjoyed the school and were very motivated and equipped to learn new things by himself. He was advancing very quickly in the core studies, covering 1.5 grade in less than 6 months. The quests Jenny and Steward carefully curated also broaden his learning to include real life skills: survival, cooking, filming, entrepreneurship…etc. We were pleasantly surprised when he volunteered to make breakfast for our whole family When there were problems caused by some students, Jenny and Steward addressed them immediately with wisdom and care, making sure that the learning environment is safe and healthy for everyone. They also communicated very well to the parents and provide valuable tools and resources for us to help our children learn and grow. Their response was above and beyond what we can ever hope for. From the time our son was in Taipei Acton, we saw him grew not just academically, but personally as well. When we returned to US this past fall and he encountered bullies in a new school, he was able to respond with wisdom, and communicated clearly and bravely to his teacher and to us. Even though his teacher’s initial response was inadequate, our son was able to be persistent and made sure that the issues were addressed. We know he learned these from Taipei Acton. Jenny and Steward created a safe and just environment for the students, and he was empowered and championed to stand up for himself and others and be a hero. Being a hero became his identity, even in new environments. We are forever grateful for Jenny and Steward for what they have done for our son. They set our son on the course to becoming the leader he was created to be, and the standards and values they instilled in him became the foundation for him to succeed in future!

My son, who had never attended schools in Taiwan, had started Acton with zero transitional difficulty. He made friends quickly and was happy as a camper since day one. I was impressive with how quickly he was able to adapt to this unique teaching method, which guides students to be self sufficient in their own academic studies, thanks to a very supportive environment both the teachers and his fellow students provide. With the themed quests, my son had become such an independent creator as well as learning to collaborate with teammates in achieving goals. Not only could he find resources to teach himself new skills and to solve issues, he had also become much more confident in expressing himself in various ways. I highly recommend Acton Academy Taipei, especially for parents seeking a non-traditional learning environment for their children.

We had 3 children (grades 1, 4 and 6) at Acton Taipei during our time in Taiwan. It was a wonderful experience. We saw the teaching method have quite an impact on the development of our children, in particular their level of independence. The teachers ("guides") are fantastic, very nurturing at the lower level and very challenging at the upper level. We really loved how they manage the older kids, treating them almost like adults instead of teaching down to them. The children really responded to this and took more responsibility for themselves as a result. The community of like-minded parents was also a huge plus. It may not be a fit for everyone as the philosophy behind their style of pedagogy veers pretty far from other schools, but if you are attracted to their philosophy we highly recommend it.

Excellent hands on educational programs for children! There are certainly pros and cons. Pros: If your kids are self-motivated, creative and love exploring the world, then this is the school for them. Most traditional schools (even international schools) in Taipei focus less on creativity and collaboration to complete tasks. In Acton, it encourages kids to take the leap, and see failing as opportunity to learn. Kids here are educated not be scared of failing but rather have the courage to grow by continuous learning. Cons: If your kids are used to systems that constantly have someone beside them to let them know what to do then it could be difficult for them, since students in Acton are responsible for their own progress.
