I purchased a Surly Bridge Club bike at Adams Avenue Bicycles (Grandma’s Lipstick color which is a gorgeous full red) about one month ago. I’ve waited until now to provide my review to give me a chance to really try out the bike. I must say that the service, attention, and patience, and totally no pressure, by Chuck and Martin was outstanding. The depth of the knowledge of the Adams Avenue staff and, most importantly, their listening to me to make sure that how I planned to ride would match the bike. Well, it’s a match! On top of that, I like to ride more upright, and Chuck spent a lot of time and was so patient making multiple adjustments until my riding position on the bike was just right for me. I was riding in San Diego and now I am in the Texas Hill Country (with that slow burn up and down the hills) and this bike and gears have enabled me to climb those hills. Something I couldn’t do before without stopping. I must also comment on the repair Chuck made to my husband’s bike. He had a partially exposed gear shift line, and I don’t know Chuck’s magical powers (probably all his years of experience); however, the bike now rides like new and this bike is about 10 years old. My husband is looking for a new bike, probably a gravel one, and he will be purchasing it at Adams Avenue Bicycles.
I bought a road bike from this shop. I love my Cannondale CAAD10. This bike shop has great prices, great bikes, and great service. Very honorable staff. It amazes me that somebody who never bought a bike from them gets motivated to leave a bad review. This guy gets bent out of shape because this bike shop wouldn't let him test ride bikes unless he was almost ready to buy do to Covid restrictions. In the bad review the guy says 5 other bikes shops let him test ride bikes. WHAT? YOU WENT TO 5 BIKE SHOPS, PUT WEAR AND TEAR ON THEIR BIKES, TOOK THE SALES PERSON'S TIME, DIDN'T BUY FROM ANY OF THEM, DURING A PANDEMIC, AND GOT MAD THAT THIS STORE WOULD ONLY LET YOU TEST RIDE IT IF YOU WERE LIKELY TO BUY IT??? and you give THEM a bad review? Who does that? I wish businesses could give customers bad reviews! I've bought bikes from almost every bike store in San Diego. This bike shop went way out of their way to let me ride bikes similar to the one I was ordering from them, even by letting me ride the owner's personal bike. It is obvious to anybody who ever bought a bike from Adams Ave Bike Shop that they want their customers to get the bike that fits them, and the bike that the customer will enjoy for years to come. Anybody that says otherwise... is doing a disservice to future consumers.
Having recently sold my car last month, I've started biking in tandem with public transit as my primary means of transportation. Up until recently, my knowledge of bikes was limited to knowing how to ride one. When I first took my bike in at the start of the month for a tune up after months in storage, Chuck did a quick inspection and determined that it was good to ride, and made a few minor adjustments it needed at no cost. Just a few days ago, I stopped in to buy a spare tire tube and ask about how to adjust my brake pads because they were sitting a little too close to the tire and making light contact with the wheel when the lever wasn't being pulled, and Spot gave me the 2 minute primer as he did it for me. The guys at this store are very friendly and helpful, more so than the handful of other bike pros I've dealt with over the years. Going from someone who would recreationally ride a couple miles every month to someone who commutes by bike, they've been a great resource in getting to know more about bike mechanics and maintenance. When it comes to all equipment and supplies, I *could* have Amazon Prime it to my doorstep, but already a few times this month, I much prefer to bike up the street to the local bike shop and give these guys my money instead.
Went there to see what options they have for a particular ride condition that I was interested in. The visit was during the COVID. After getting the information from the staff there, I requested to try two of them to experience the feel and especially sizing of them. To my surprise the person told me that due to COVID you can only try them if you are "almost" there to buy and told me to go do my research, so didn't let me try them. I didn't understand what it means to "almost" know what bike I want, but after buying and riding many bikes, I know one thing for sure: you cannot buy a bike without trying them. Set aside that we are talking about 1.5k+ bikes. Plus, if it was COVID related, this was the only bike shop that was enforcing it (I have tried bikes in at least 5 other shops at the same time). I should say that I highly suspect that they could sell any bikes (at least on that price range) using this policy and I highly think it was an act of discrimination. I am giving two stars for the fact that the staff spend some times and told me about the different bikes and options they have. ps. I was there even with my own helmet.
I am so overwhelmed with gratitude for the assistance that I received from this establishment! My significant other is currently serving our country overseas and needed his bike shipped to him. What seemed like a fairly easy request turned into a nightmare! The only place that shipped to his location is the USPS and they have very strict guidelines on the size of the package. Ian and his staff went above and beyond to assist me in making sure that the package was acceptable to their standards. My significant other and I are forever grateful for the professionalism and dedication that they displayed. The atmosphere is inviting, the staff are amazing and the service is outstanding!! I highly recommend this shop for any of your bicycle needs!
Warm welcomes, friendly and knowledgeable staff, and a top notch selection of bike products are some of what you’ll find at Adams Avenue Bicycles. Workmanship and attention to detail are at the highest level. The staff is willing to answer any and all of your questions, will take the time to explain topics of complexity, and make sure you understand what is being done to your bicycle and why regardless of whether it’s a tune up or custom build. If you are looking for a bicycle shop that puts the consumer first and is owned and staffed by people who are passionate about bicycles, components, accessories, and riding outside, Adams Avenue Bicycles is the shop for you!
It's now 2021 and Adams Ave is still the best bike shop in San Diego. Everything I said before goes double. Recently had my bike stolen just before the holidays went up to Adams the same day and got the same great service I've always got. Now I'm riding my beautiful new bike. If you need a bike, expert advice, any repairs or parts, Adams avenue bikes is the place to go. Fantastic shop. Staff is highly skilled. Never a wait, always someone ready to help. No pressure, free evaluation of problem. Fast turnaround on repairs if needed. Excellent, competitive pricing. If they dont have it in stock they can get it fast. Efrim was terrific on my most recent visit.
These guys are great, good people. Always friendly and highly professional, even to those of us with older, heavily used & loved bikes. I've trusted them for years. Never felt any of that nasty, bike-nerd arrogance coming from them, always felt like they respect and appreciate you for just being someone who loves biking too. It's like their goal always is to get you up and out there riding. I've found their advice and choice of options is spot-on. I like that they're small, locally owned and even carry some of the great locally manufactured stuff we in SoCal are so lucky to have here. Their prices and quality of service is unbeatable.
Poor Service, They told me my road bike was not worth fixing. It should be up to me not them,,, If i have the money why not. I also explain that my brother had not taken care of the bike and I needed to fix it, and have it back on the road. There reply was,, is going to cost to much money and your brother sounds and must be an abuser. Again if i have the money why not!!!!!! Sounds like this guy was judging me and taught I was broke. He lost a real client and potential clients that i know well never stop there again.... This world is small and you never know who that other guy knows.......
This is my favorite bike shop. They helped me set up my vintage 12 speed for a century ride. Then when I was ready to upgrade recommended a bike perfect for my needs, but they didn't carry. The store I purchased the bike from is good, but they didn't spend the time or seem to care about fitting the bike to me. After suffering through a grueling century because the bike wasn't properly adjusted, I went right back to Adam's and Matt made all the proper adjustments. Thanks to Matt at Adam's, pedaling the cold wet 2013 El Tour de Tuscan was the best time ever.
Best bike shop is SD!! I had my tri bike serviced there (new aero bars and tune-up). I also purchased a 2017 full carbon bike and Ian gave me an AMAZING deal. I was adamant about needing the bike delivered quickly. He guaranteed timely delivery to the point that the only way to ensure that was to pay for expedited shipping, and they absorbed that cost in order to honor the agreed-to price. That's integrity! Ian was incredibly communicative and responsive to my needs. Hats off to the entire staff as well!!
They helped me choose a road bike & saddle & fit it for me 10 years ago. I’ve ridden at least 10,000 miles on it since. Same saddle & same fit as their initial setup. I just reached out to them for some information about the bike 10 years later and they were as kind and helpful as I remember (thanks Andrea!) The bike was hands down the best purchase I’ve ever made, and it seems like Adams Ave Bikes continues to invest time and care into making happy riders.
Adam's Avenue Bicycle has a great selection of bicycles, from low to very high end. They also do great service, they helped me convert my '78 Bianchi to a fixed gear and gave an old bike new life. They also somehow fixed an ultegra sti front lever that I thought was dead. They also have a great selection of performance and rare parts on hand, what they don't have they can usually get quickly. Good prices on service, trust your bike with real professionals.
Love this shop. They are always willing to talk to me about my various bike projects in various states of completion and they have an excellent selection of sometimes hard to find parts. Also bought a bike here a while back and nothing but good things to say about the buying process. Always super friendly, super helpful and never judgmental, which is a lot more than a lot of bike shops can say. Can’t recommend enough.
Adams Avenue Bike Shop blows away the corporate bike shops. For a bike shop to get 5 stars they need Great Prices, Excellent Selection, and The Best Bike Techs. Adams Ave Bike Shop has redefined these three timeless principles. I trust them and have bought parts and a Cannondale bike from them. Check out their online selection of bikes. It is extensive. I recommend them without the slightest bit of reservation.
Local Gem! I stopped in for a quick repair. Chuck was very kind with a quick fix and advice on how I had made a minor error in assembling my single speed. So wonderful to encounter a shop that was delightfully to me as woman that is actually capable of working on my own bike (this is a rarity among bike shops, sadly). The shop has a great selection of bikes and other gear and very reasonable prices. Bravo!
My first visit to AAB, and already one of my favorite bike shops in town. I brought my Pinarello for a possible upgrade from Shimano 105 to Ultegra, and Mark not only knew what he was talking about, but ran through other and cheaper options to make my bike better as well. He also adjusted my rear derailleur and lubed the chain at no charge. Love the no-pressure service and complete lack of snottiness.
Extremely friendly, knowledgeable, great bicycle and accessories selections! Very reasonable prices, quick, and thorough service! 10 min bike tire repair! They installed my newly purchased water and new seat as well! I love them! Stop on and experience for yourself! Parking was good and not a busy area. Safe and friendly. Abides by COVID regulations. I will be a repeat customer!
Never been to this shop before but my first impression of this place was fantastic. Chuck and Andrea helped me out immediately. Even though I had a small issue, Chuck went right to work on getting my problem solved. Most shops will give you unrealistic timelines but not here. They’ve got reasonable prices, a great selection of bikes, and great attitudes. Do business here!
This is a great place to drop of your bicycle to get fix or either buy your new bike and any accessory for your bike. They got my bike fix and did a general maintenance. Fast service too. They took on my 3 weekdays to fix my bike. Eventhough the store is on a principal street you can find lot of space to park and take your bicycle out of the car with plenty of space.
I just moved to SoCal and needed a new bike. I've only ever purchased used bikes before, but the friendly staff and great selection made me comfortable enough to take the plunge and purchase a bike I'll be happy with for a long time! I recommend this place for the great costumer service, and will definitely be returning for tune-ups and gear purchases.
The new ownership is at least as good as the last one, who was very good. Steve has the right attitude and a good stock of bikes. I've bought the last two of my five bikes there, and having good service is worth more than any "deal" you might get elsewhere. His staff is excellent. Good trouble-shooters. Just make trouble and find out! Heh, heh!
Great service, but maybe more expensive than other shops. However, like most die-hard shops, they have expert staff who will save you money in the long run, and they'll always fit you in for a needed repair. These guys and gals love what they do and it shows. Big community following for a reason.
We bought a couple of custom built touring bicycles from Adam's. They were a complex build with many hard to source parts. The interaction on the phone, via email, and in person was excellent. They were knowledgeable, professional, and a pleasure to deal with. Highly recommended bike shop.
Super knowledgable and approachable bike shop. They helped me with buying my next Surly and it was a blast coming in and talking with them. They have some of the best builds and brands. You can tell these guys simply love bikes and just want others to as well! Highly, highly recommend.
These guys are awesome. I took in a Bianchi I'm restoring and they could not have been more helpful, or nice. The staff was full of answers and you can tell they enjoy what they do. Each time I was in I noticed regulars and they were not any less attentive to what I needed. Very cool.
Mechanic Spot wrenches here, he's one of the very best in all of San Diego. Watching him diagnose and resolve hard mechanical issues is like watching an artist at work, my machine always rides great after he's worked on it. Really reasonable pricing and very high quality of work.
The gentlemen at this shop are experienced and friendly, their repair labor rates are fair. They have a modest selection of very high end bikes but they can accommodate casual to intense riders. Even though their shop opens two hours after banks! they are still the "go-to" shop.
I do enjoy coming here. I'm more or less.. more the harder customer to please. This place is great, with a reasonable conversation with staff members all my issues with my bike where solved. Good work and a great place you might want to call or stop at for you bicycle needs.
This is such a wonderful bike shop! Steven and his whole staff are very service oriented and not pushy at all. Everytime I'm there I feel at home. If you are shopping for a new bike or for a place to get service on your bike, etc. This is the best place to go!
Fixed my bike up, but forgot to reattach the rear brake. When I asked them about it, they fixed it for free right away, and even took it for a test ride to make sure it was working. They're clearly very passionate about what they do. Great shop!
10/10 experience Chuck went out of his way to stay a little longer than normal store hours just to help me a complete beginner get a bike. Not only that but Martin was excellent with his customer service over the phone. I highly recommend going.
Awesome staff and great service. The staff took the time out of their busy day to repair my daughters flat tires and adjust her brakes. Great service and friendly people. My daughter was super happy to be riding her bike again :) Thank you guys!
Highly recommended! Stuff is very knowledgeable, no pressure and great service. I got 2 bikes from the store, and came few times already for adjustments - no additional cost, the team wants you on a bike and feel comfortable.
Desperately needed a thru axle bolt for my Marin, called around to a bunch of different shops and ONLY Adam’s Ave had it in stock. Beautiful shop, great staff, the place to go if you need help to get back on the road in SD.
We bought two new bikes this summer from these guys. Great, friendly and super attentive staff that answered all our many questions. We've even referred friends who've in turn bought bikes which they too love.
One of the best brick and mortar shops in SD. Variety of components from mnt, road, and touring, as well as a friendly and knowledgeable staff. Will be back
Amazing bike shop! Was in need of some stuff before continuing my bike tour down the Baja and they had just what I needed. Awesome and kind staff as well.
Chuck dialed my new bike in. Super happy with the service. Great bike shop in a central location. Highly recommend doing business with these folks.
Experienced, knowledgeable, friendly, and reasonably priced. I just got a repair, but I'm definitely coming back here to buy my next bike.
