"I ordered take away from here a couple of years ago and it was very average, but I noticed that they are still very popular and have lots of good reviews so I gave them another go recently"
We decided to give this place a chance despite all the bad reviews and left very disappointed. We put an order through for delivery and waited for more than an hour. When I called to follow up, I was advised driver came to pick up a little early (after 40mins of order being received) and left as food wasn’t ready then. The staff ensured on the phone that food is ready and will be delivered in 10mins. 25 more minutes had passed and we were still waiting. So I rang up again and was told they don’t have any deliver driver and not sure if food will still be delivered. When I asked what is going to be their next action is or how is this going to be resolved, I was answered “we are not sure”— no apologies or no remorse as to how long we had been waiting. The phone was passed on to a lady (not sure if she is the manager) but she is so rude. Aggressive and yelling on the phone advising this is not their fault and they can’t cancel order or provide refund even if the food was not provided. I did not hear any accountability or apologies for inconvenience. I had to speak to someone from the food delivery app to get a refund. They could’ve been honest and called us straightaway to let us know there was no delivery driver and we would have been alright to pick up and not wait for more than an hour. After speaking to someone from a delivery app, the lady/manager from this place was still rude and advised me I could pick up the food for free—I declined as who knows how long the food had been sitting there. They could’ve called us half an hour prior to that would happily pay for our meal. VERY VERY VERY POOR customer service and would never again order from here. DOES NOT DESERVE EVEN 1 STAR. PLEASE DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME HERE.

Ajantha is our go to for Indian food and has been for many years. The food is always beautiful! The owners even more beautiful. They are friendly, and work so hard to cater for our gluten free family! There is just so much we can eat here and it never disappoints! Tonight the stand out was CHICHEN TIKKA which was succulent, full of flavour and absolutely delicious. The curries were divine as usual! Thank you for a great feed and for always making sure that eating at your restaurant is an absolute joy! It times are full and so happy! See you soon!

Family owned and run. We have been eating here for more than 12 years. The first place I ate at while feeding my baby as a brand new mum. Not an eyelid batted. Such a welcoming cosy environment. Not flash but clean and warm. The food is delicious and consistent. Fairly priced. Covid has hit this business hard. Staff shortages affect waiting times yes but it’s worth the wait. Plan ahead. Order at 5pm. You must try their paneer cheese naan. It’s to die for. I always eat it in the car on the way home. I drive 20mins to get this Indian. The menu is diverse, if you are vegan just ask and they will adapt one of their vegetarian dishes. I’m not into hot spices so I always get mild curries. My husband loves the hot stuff and he is always happy with the heat factor. I always see people of Indian heritage eating here which is always a good sign. Support this small business they are awesome. I only wish that I lived closer so I could visit more often.
This popular little family run restaurant is situated in a row of shops/restaurants opposite the large South Morang Bunnings store. The restaurant is a warm, cosy place with some interesting graffiti styled artwork on the wall and BYO is welcomed. The owner is very attentive and remembers her regulars. We were greeted and seated without a booking on a Saturday night. Whilst we were there, the restaurant filled quickly and many takeaways also were serviced. The food is freshly prepared, delicious and tasty. Because it was busy, we had to wait for our food, but it was definitely worth the wait. We enjoyed an mixed tandoori platter and samosas, followed by Lamb Korma, Beef Chilly Masala, Butter Chicken, Gobi Mussalam, coconut rice and naan bread. The servings are generous and we walked out well sated! Thanks Ajantha.... we will return soon!
I ordered take away from here a couple of years ago and it was very average, but I noticed that they are still very popular and have lots of good reviews so I gave them another go recently. I don't get the popularity; They're incredibly slow, they actually seemed surprised/annoyed that I turned up at the time they gave (I even allowed an extra 5 minutes because they seemed busy on the phone). They ended up taking 20 mins longer than they said and the place was dead. The curries were super bland, especially the butter chicken. Super thin sauce without much flavour except for some sweetness. The other curry was only slightly better, but I ordered hot, they said it was already hot so no need, but it was mild to medium at most. They must cater for a clientele that don't eat much Indian or spicy food or something.
I’m really torn between the good and the bad about this place. I’ve been coming here for a number of years off and on. First of all, I think the food is excellent and I’ve never had a complaint about the quality and taste, big winner for me. However, I always order by phone and pick up, and they never get their timing right, always waiting a lot longer than I’m told, if you can deal with that, or order delivery and are happy to wait longer than advised, then I certainly recommend giving this place a try. I’ve never eaten in the restaurant, but it’s rarely really busy so maybe give that a try!

Went here for the first and last time with our children. No water on the table or when we sat down. From the time we sat down to when we finally got our dinner it was 1hr 30mins, which when you have children with you is a very long time to keep them entertained. There was no apology or explanation for why the food took so long. Customers that came in after us received their food before us. We got to the point of almost getting up and paying for what we had already eaten which was just the starter that arrived an hour earlier. Unfortunately when the dinner did finally arrive it was not worth the wait. Both the curries and naan's were very mediocre. Poor customer service and food means we would not recommend Ajantha Indian Restaurant to others.
We have been coming here since the place opened years ago. Our experience is normally good with great food, however we had noticed the standard of food deteriorating over the last 6 months. Our meal a few weeks ago was the straw that broke the camels back. my chicken dish was lacking flavour and the chicken was tough. the beef dish had flavour but the meat was way too tough. the lamb cutlets were also dry and hard to eat. huge disappointment. i told the owner when paying and all she said to me was that she would let the chef know. sorry but I will not be back.

Went on Friday night ordered food for takeaway at 8.05 pm and was told to pick food after 1 hour. I have 3 children poor things had to wait for food while we did shopping for meanwhile. Customer service was alright. Ordered butter chicken, vindaloo chicken, lamb madras and prawn masala. Butter chicken was alright, so was chicken vindaloo. Lamb madras was okay too. For prawn masala hardly ever could find prawn it was packed with gravy only and plus it had less salt. You need to let them know if you would like to it mild or spicy. It was my 1st time going to that restaurant but couldn't find anything wow.
First visit tonight... most definitely will not be my last. Ajantha is a family owned and run restaurant and the food was amazing. The service was friendly, that atmosphere had just the right touch of Indian spice to the overall aroma that just walking in and taking a deep breathe was a pleasure. Entree and three mains with rice meant we (the three of us) were well fed and still had enough left over to do lunch tomorrow... Next time I hope to leave enough room for dessert. Well worth the visit if you are after good Indian food.
Been a loyal customer since 2017 when I first moved into the area. Tried other Indian restaurants but always came back. Tried eating in restaurant but expect up to an hour wait, perfect option for lazy night comfort food takeaway with 30min wait. Very accomodating chef, since we’re always asking for no chilli curry options for my 5 year old son. Recommend butter chicken, palak paneer, 2*garlic naans and 2 rice enough to feed 4 adults.
The food takes over 40 mins to be prepared. I tried calling to place an order prior to arrival to make sure that the food was ready when we arrive. They hardly answer the phone and the guy who took my order was so rude and arrogant. The food was nice but the tandoori chicken was very dry. The lady staff member was ok but wasn’t very friendly.

Their food is amazing! My husband has a nut allergy but the staff made our butter chicken nut free. It was the first time he had ever eaten butter chicken as other resturants have never offered to make it nut free for him. It tasted just as good without the nuts and he loved it. It has become the only indian resturant we go to now.

For those of you who are saying you've ordered Butter Chicken and it's lacked flavor.....What do you expect? Its the most overrated 'curry'. The place is clean and the food is comforting. Yes the place could do with more staff and a new look but wouldnt that mean their prices would have to go up? It's a small family business, either support them or dont!
Such a great little restaurant. Went back to Ajantha's tonight for the first time in about 5 years and without a doubt the food was a good as it ever was. Everything tasted so fresh, the butter chicken was amazing. Very polite and friendly service. Would highly recommend.

I have ordered dinner (pick up) from this place first time just because other restaurants were closed as I heard bad reputation of this restaurant. Curries were taste less and nanns were cold and hard to chew. Felt like ripped off. Won’t go there again.

Great food, but way overpriced. but I guess you pay for what you get ! and I must admit that the difference between this Indian food and some little Dosa restaurant/Takeaway is a big difference. they have a great variety in breads and dishes. if getting Takeaway it's best to ring as the wait can sometimes be a little while.
Love their indian food, and my 2 year old son loves his butter chicken! He has a nut allergy and this place is the only place i trust with his allergy. One of the most clean indian restaurant I've ever seen, and food is all made to order. Small family business, either support them or leave them alone. Thanks Ajantha
This restaurant had a good taste. Now they have changed. The food is salty, quantity served is less as compared to the price. The staff don't care about the customers, they failed to serve water even after reminding twice. The last two times I visited this place I was very disappointed with overall experience.
The food in this restaurant is outstanding, the quality and the taste is amazing. It's a gem in our area. Highly recommend!!

Great food with a variety to suit most. We order both meat and vegetarian dishes. It's been a staple for us since opening and is clearly one of the better ones in the area. The parking around is limited however there is sufficient spots close by. We often choose Ajantha as our Friday night takeout option.
we took the family to celebrate a birthday. no easy feat when we have vegen, vegetarian, gluten free and lactose free requirements. We were well catered for and had a great evening. At the end we could take home what we couldnt eat. Mains were very reasonably priced. coconut rice yummy.
Fair dinkum they do a great curry here. The portions are very generous. My top recommendations are the garlic naan, which I have dreamed about but never found until now. The hyderabadi chicken is also exceptional. The gravy/sauce was beautifully spiced. We will definitely come again.
Ordered a Lamb biriyani today. It was hard for me to find any lamb in it. Seems like its just rice covered in color. Ordered spicy. But no spicy and no flavors. Pappadam that served with biriyani is burned to hell.. and the salad it comes along with taste like sugar dipped.. pathetic
A quiet spot. Family run. Very yummy food. Just love the food here. Easy parking.

Probably the best indian I've had in the North. Everything is made fresh and is family run. We're quite lucky to have such authenticity in this area. Other reviews complaining about poor service have no footing. If you want a McDonalds experience then go to McDonalds.
Average at best! Terrible service, waited 25 minutes for an order to be taken, no water on the table or greeting - we sat down on our own. Another 20 minutes for an entree and another 20/25 for mains. Food was good, some dishes flavourful and others bland.
The food here is really great, very authentic! No more driving all the way to the city for Indian food. You see quite a few Indian customers which says something. The staff are quiet but if you have a chat with them you will find they are very nice.
Got kadai chicken take away last night and it was bad. Looked nothing like kadai chicken and tasted awful. I had guests over and they were all disappointed. Very embarrassed as a host. I called to give feedback however the owner said ‘taste
It is a cosy Indian restaurant and the food is not bad in terms of authenticity. The only downfalls are the value for money (the quantity is significantly low for the value you pay in a suburban local restaurant) and the service takes so
Had a random dinner here with a friend few years ago. I have to say that they had the best Gulab Gamuns at the time. The best I've ever tasted in Melbourne.

I was in search for a decent place where I can have some different taste than most Indian restaurants in Melbourne. I ordered couple of things and it went out superb. Specially their curries have delicious taste. 5 starts from me.
Constantly the Best Indian food. Every time, even after my review from 2 Years ago. Best Indian food on the fricken planet great atmosphere and wall art as well service top-notch I can't rate the place high and highly enough.

Service was a little slow, but the food was excellent. If you like your food hot and spicy, let them know and they will make to your taste. Also let them know if you like your curry mild or you may be surprised :)
Delicious food. Nice atmosphere. I suggest not going on a Friday evening though as they tend to serve the many take away orders before serving the people dining in: we waited a whole hour before being served.
My favourite Indian restaurant. I have been coming here for years. I have tried many dishes at Ajantha, and all are the best tasting I have experienced. The staff are very lovely. Would highly recommend!

If you are an Indian .... I would say do not go in there ....its far away from Indian taste and authenticity...I mean very far away...actually light years away.
Been dining here since the restaurant opened. Food is beautiful and always cooked as ordered. Staff are always friendly. We love this place!!!
Very mediocre food and insufficient quantity. Ok service. Not worth the money or the time. Much better restaurants around the area.
One of the best Indian restaurants I’ve been to, great selection and the curry’s aren’t watery.

I have been to so many Indian restaurants and they have all been FANTASTIC but they do not compare to AJANTHA.
There is good Indian food, there is bad Indian food, then there is an excuse for Indian food called Ajantha.
One star is more than it’s worth. Poor service. Never again will I order from here.
