We ordered the black bean hummus, fried pickles, veggie burger and blackened cat fish. Everything tasted great. The hummus was very mild and it lacked extra flavor. The veggie burger also needs a little more of seasoning. I removed the red onion because the flavor of the quinoa pattie was overpowered by the onion. The onion rings were great. My husband had the fish and he really liked it. There are very few vegetarian options, including the black bean hummus and veggie burger. We ordered the warm brownie for desserts and this was the only item that didn't impress us. It was more of a dry chocolate cake. Overall we liked everything about this place. We were seated as soon as we arrived. The waiter was very polite and knew the menu. The food was ready in a timely manner. The place was clean. Parking can be difficult on a busy day. We spent $60 including tip. We will definitely be back to try other items.

Haven't been in a while...but it hasn't lost its touch! Located in the historic district of Charlotte it looks like a storybook! You will never be disappointed! I always recommend the she-crab soup, the blackened catfish entree, London broil...it can be a bit tendony sometimes but it is still amazing. Also the honey chicken pasta. For dessert, the oreo cheesecake! The establishment is small can get a little tight in there, but WORTH IT! ONLY 1 STALL bathrooms so keep that in mind when you're drinking. The staff is always so sweet and attentive! Prices varies depending on what you order.

Best place for couples!! Candlelight dinner type restaurant with a bar on the side. Me and husband were celebrating our wedding anniversary and we wanted to go somewhere new so we found this small spot and on a Saturday night I thought it was going to be packed but it actually wasn't it was just right! The whole ambience was very romantic with low lighting and a candle at each table. Since it wasn't very busy we were allowed to choose our own sitting and we found this small cute table for two near the corner. Our waitress was very kind and funny and checked on us numerous times throughout the evening but the food was.....AMAZING!!!! Everything was hot and cooked to perfection, I even had to ask our waitress to tell the Chef how great the food was!! And just as we were getting ready to leave our waitress surprised us with a fudge brownie with whipped cream and wished a Happy Anniversary. I totally teared up they completely went the extra mile and made our evening that more special and my husband and I are happy to say we found a new favorite date night spot :)

What a hidden gem! We were passing through Charlotte and wanted a "local" place for dinner. We found Alexander Michael's and we are so happy we did. It's in the adorable 4th Ward district. We got there at 7:45 on a Wednesday night and there was a constant stream of people coming in and out. It seemed like the staff knew everyone who walked in the door - a real local place! Our waitress was attentive and so friendly. The food was amazing and the service was great. We sat down and my daughter was upset that the meal she saw online wasn't on the menu so we asked. They of course said they'd make it! We started with the black bean hummus which was so tasty and came with pita wedges and some vegetables. I got the feta chicken (the waitresses favorite dish) and I can see why! My daughter got a vegetable pita with onion rings. The portion sizes were great and the price is so reasonable. If we are ever back in Charlotte, we would definitely go back.

This is a great little neighborhood spot. I love the fact that it's in an old house, and they've retained a lot of the character. We were greeted by a man who was super friendly - while we waited, he offered us drinks and was just so welcoming. The food was delicious - I ordered the blackened catfish sandwich (ask for no onions, they overpowered this dish) with cajun fries and my husband ordered the crawfish burrito. We also ordered makers and coke and a midori sour. Everything was so tasty, the fries were PERFECT and it didn't take long to be served. Our waitress was pretty bad though not gonna lie. She didn't stop by much, I never got a refill on my water and she added all kids of things to our receipt which we did not order. It took 4 tried to get that right. I will not deduct a star for that though because everything else about the place was just so great. I will return, but I'll wait until covid dies down because I wasn't impressed with the way people were spaced out in there.

I always love it when we come here. This is always been a place me and my family goes to. The staff is always so nice, friendly and up on their tables. Most importantly, every time we enter the door someone is always right their to greet us and are ready to seat us immediately. This makes it so welcoming for the guests. We have also got all the laughs just as they do with the pole in the woman's bathroom. The amount of times I even almost run into it is funny and I know that it is there. Thank you to all Alexandra Michael's staff! It was and still will be an absolute blessing to go there.

Stopped here for lunch with some friends. This was a place that was on my list of places I’ve been wanting to try. I ordered the grilled chicken sandwich with fries. I was impressed by how delicious and tender the chicken was and the fries were legit homemade french fries!! They used a pretzel bun, lettuce, tomato, onion, and pickles. Service was quick and great as expected. The place is a unique looking restaurant/pub. I look forward to going back and trying more from their menu. They made a really good chicken sandwich so I’m sure the rest of the food is phenomenal! I would highly recommend stopping here for lunch/dinner or just a drink!

I couldn't wait to try this restaurant. The reviews were good, and the pictures showed a cozy atmosphere. So i convinced my husband it would be worth the 15 min drive. We were not disappointed. Alexander Michael's is located on the out skirts of the city in a small picturesque neighborhood. The owner greeted us, and we had a short wait. Once seated, Brittany came to our table and welcomed us. She was awesome! After a few suggestions by Brittany, we ordered. The food came out quickly and was fresh. Everything was so delicious, and service was top-notch! The restaurant was warm and cozy. We will definitely return!

This place will forever be the place to come grab some delicious food or just a beer. You will never be let down by the small town feel in the heart of Charlotte. Day or night, Al Mike's provides the best drinks and food around. I suggest a London broil with a glass of franziskaner but choose anything from the menu, no disappointment.

Based on the 4.5 rating at this place we gave it a try to dine in and it was worth it. The ratings didn't lie. I had never been to Charlotte before and based most of our dining on customer ratings. Well, you can rest assure that dining at this place will not disappoint. I had pasta and it was delicious. The other two colleagues gave positive feedback on what they had too. I would recommend to try out this place if you're ever in Charlotte. We stayed at the UNC area and it took us about half hour to get there but it was worth it. Highly recommended.

This restaurant is on a street where there are some beautiful houses we parked on the street. When we walked in we were greet by the friendly bartender that cleaned off a table for us very quickly which really impressed me. As soon as we were seated Kaylor our waitress came and got our drink orders. We arrived at 8:15pm and were done with drinks and dinner by 9:15pm it was fast service but we never felt rushed but the complete opposite. Kaylor gave us her honest opinion about the dishes we asked her about. Everything was delicious and you can tell it’s their own recipes and that they took pride in making each dish. We will be back to see Kaylor and the rest of the team here.

Lovely place to eat! It was a hit pricey but the food is worth it. I had the blacked cajun chicken with rotini pasta and wafer crackers. I loved the experience. The place is a bit small but the ambience was great for a date night. The chicken was fresh and so was the pasta. It was perfectly seasoned. I enjoyed the customer service as well. The serve was very attentive. I would come back here again. It's in a small neighborhood and it feels very homely. Omg the cheesecake was SOOOOOOOO GOOOOOOOD!! I had the oreo cheesecake. It was velvety, creamy, smooth, and delicious. Would definitely come again.

WHAT IT IS! Is the best thing on the menu imho. This is a very comfortably and intimately set restaurant with long bar nestled into the fourth ward. It can be spotted by an antique pick up truck parked out front. They have many craft beers at normal prices. The food is amazing and everyone I've taken loves it. Make sure you plan enough time for a walk before or after around fourth ward. There are maps/pamphlets located in fourth ward park which give the history of many houses in the area. We have considered moving to this area simply because of the atmosphere of the park and Alexander Michael's.

Cute little neighborhood tavern/restaurant in uptown. We had no trouble getting a table early on a Tuesday evening. By 7pm it was packed. Very family friendly. Full bar, beer and wine, TVs for sports watching, street parking only. We ordered the What It Is Cajun pasta (good but not spicy, in case you’re wondering) and the black bean burger (not very good, no flavor) with onion rings. Food was pretty good, service was very attentive.

This is my second trip to Charlotte in the past 5 months, and I returned to Alexander Michael's. I am SO glad I did. This place is just as good as I remembered from my September visit. Today's special included Cottage Pie. This was truly tasty! Ground chuck, beans, carrots, onions, in gravy topped with mashed potatoes and cheese. It was really good - well seasoned with just the right amount of crunch to the vegetables and surprisingly light. Our server was attentive without being obtrusive. To top it off, the venue is situated in a lovely neighborhood. Highly recommended!

  • Jenna Dobbins

I LOVE this building! It’s in this little section of 4th ward that is just beautiful. You feel so tucked away from the city, it’s almost hard to imagine you’re right in the middle of it. The food is good (I’m a sucker for tater tots and theirs are great). I have the palette of a child, so I mostly love this place for the aesthetics and care slightly less about the food itself. BUT I do have a good friend who is a food snob, and he enjoys this place, so I’m going to take that as high praise for the food too!

I'm always on search of good pasta so when i saw a few reviews mention the honey glazed chicken pasta i wanted to give it a try and it did not disappoint! Great portion size & it was delicious! Will definitely be back for the pasta. My fiance' said his hoagie was good! Cute location, i could see how parking could be difficult but we were able to find a close spot.

Not the place to go if you are looking for Southern hospitality. When my friend asked if they could do mashed potatoes instead of pasta (she is gluten free) he replied, "Yeah, I could make you a birthday cake too if I had time.". Then when husband told them he'd been served a Coke instead of Crown and Coke, they brought him a shot of Crown and charged him for it. Overall a rude staff. Potato wedges were good. Chicken Marsala was very mediocre - chicken was dry. First and last visit.

Loved Alexander Michael‘s. Such a cozy, cute place. The service was fantastic and the food, even better. We shared the nachos and the chips had to have been homemade. They were outrageous. I had an old childhood favorite, beef stroganoff. The pasta was cooked perfectly and the sauce was absolutely delicious. The onion rings were crunchy and not soggy. They had a really good beer and wine list too. Will definitely go back.

I've been here enough times to finally say, this place is FANTASTIC!!! It's like eating an amazing home cooked meal, everytime. Not only is the service amazing, the food speaks for itself. I'm a chef, and this is my go-to place when I find the time, heck, I even took the night off just to eat here on a Friday. Can't say enough about it. Definitely worth a visit, or 2, or 3, or hell, come once a week and try something different every time. The menu has something for everyone. Cheers.

  • Ron Keys

This place is amazing! Our server Jaime was absolutely great. She recommended menu items even without us having to ask. My wife and I shared the fried pickles and let me tell you, those pickles are a must-try. Hear me now, believe me later! My wife got a salad and it was huge. I got the blackened fish sandwich with fries. Anytime I come to Charlotte and want to go out to eat I'm going to Alexander Michael's and so should you.

This was our first visit. From the time we arrived to the time we left everything was outstanding. They should be commended for a 99.5 sanitation score. The service was surprisingly top shelf at a time when many restaurants are struggling to get servers and kitchen help. Brittany, our server, was extremely attentive and always pleasant. The food was better than the "unpretentious" label attached to it. Everything was fresh and tasty. No doubt we will return.

Wow as a first time customer I was very impressed with this restaurant. It was very busy yet the service was great and the food was awesome! Honey Garlic BBQ wings are delicious! So is the Spicy Crab Soup. It isn't burn your mouth spicy but rather a nice kick in your tastebuds that makes you want more! The Reuben was okay. Cajun Fries were delicious as well. Atmosphere was busy during lunch, calmed down around 2pm. Some people were in suits. I was dressed very casually and still felt in place. Small, almost a hole in the wall in 4th Ward. I will definitely be back again!

I am a little torn on this place. It is a really quaint setting that takes you back a few years, however it was super packed when we went which made the experience and the wait time not too great. The food was very tasty although it didn't sit well in my stomach... But it may have been just me that night because my boyfriend was completely fine. The waitress was very nice as well

I recently visited Alexander Michael’s restaurant in Charlotte and had a great experience. The place itself is cozy and welcoming, and the staff was friendly and attentive. The food was delicious and well-prepared. However, I gave it 4 stars instead of 5 because of the last serving. Overall, I would definitely recommend this restaurant to anyone looking for a great meal in a relaxed atmosphere.

We showed up from out of town and called a few places. The gentleman answering the phone was so nice. We showed up with 9 people and after a short wait (an many check ins with the gentleman once there), were accommodated with a great table and an amazing server. Everyone involved in our visit was so lovely, informative, and attentive. They made our trip so worth it. Highly highly recommend.

Great little restaurant in the middle of a quiet neighborhood. It looks like it could be pretentious, but it definitely isn't and has a pub vibe. I can see it being visited a lot by regulars from the neighborhood. Service was fast and friendly, food was even better. Not pricey, about $20/pp with a non-alcoholic drink. I would recommend the honey chicken pasta.

We were in the area and stumbled upon the vibrant local pub come eatery. We were promptly seated, they have a good selection of local beers and food well prepared. Overall a good choice to spend a lazy evening.

Went on a Saturday night around 7pm for dinner, the host was kind of a jerk and when we asked him how long the wait was he just said "I don't know." We didn't mind waiting and expected one but in return we were expected to just wait around the restaurant for an undetermined amount of time. Poor customer interaction, get a better system

Great beer selection. Nice menu. Try honey chicken pasta.. don't forget to read the back of the menu. Hilarious... one of our favorite Charlotte restaurants.

One of my all time favorite restaurants in Charlotte. I’ve been coming here for almost 30 years and I have never been disappointed. Great team, comfortable environment and wonderful food! Their emphasis on customer service and consistency works.

Such a wonderful spot in Charlotte nestled amongst the historic Victoria era homes in the 4th Ward. Owner on site seating patrons, great service, and fantastic food made this a memorable Friday night. Now I know why nobody told me about this place...they wanted it all for themselves! Try the jalapeno beer...it's awesome.

Wow!!! Although there wasn’t a child menu, the adult menu was easily adapted to the immature palates of our 5 and 7 year olds. The host was accommodating and kind, the waitress was incredibly efficient and friendly, and the atmosphere was welcoming and had a warm feel to it. Thank you for a great dinner!

Not the vibe you'd expect from the outside of the building, but it's a cozy sort of pub looking establishment. Food was under-seasoned but still enjoyable. Server was very friendly and attentive.

A great place to spend an evening with friends, family, or on your own. Very warm and inviting local ambience. The Reuben was delicious, but the spicy crab soup stole the show--and I rarely eat crab. My only regret is that I wish I had gone here sooner!

This restaurant was a fun experience! Me and my boyfriend are from Athens, Alabama. This place was so delicious we wish we had one back home. The What it is pasta was fantastic. If we ever come back to Charlotte we will definitely eat here again!

Such a cute romantic place to go for a first or second date…. And then come back again. The food is amazing. What it is IS soooo good. Great selection beers on tap also. They’re usually pretty busy so you might have a little wait but what

  • Gwen

Tasty, but my chicken was over seasoned while my dates burger was very bland. Takes a second to get used to the dim lights, but has a comfortable setting. Our food came out pretty quickly too. I will say they know how to pour a Guinness.

Good atmosphere and quality service. As a vegan out with friends, I tend to go with the flow. There were very limited options for me, aside from salad and hummus platter. Hummus wasn't bad & prices were reasonable.
