"We love the train ride"
Altona miniature railway runs on the 3rd Sunday of every month. You can park on the street or in the parking lot on the side. There are two main lines when you enter, one for the purchase of tickets and one for the train. We waited approximately 10 mins to purchase tickets. The line for the miniature trains took us approximately 45 mins before we got a chance to ride with our little ones. There are some toilets and shaded picnic bench areas. There was a vendor to the side selling some food or you can bring some along yourself to picnic. Other than the miniature rail, there is not much else to do there for kids. It looks like they are building a playground but not currently open. Otherwise it's a short drive if you want to head to Elephant cafe down the road that has a little courtyard with a play area for the little ones.

Was lucky enough to go here on an open day, and my babe just loved going on the train rides. There was a bouncy castle, and they also had a coffee caravan which is suffiecent- there's enough room there to have a few food trucks which would give customers a few more options for food purchase, the day I went only toasties were being served from the coffee place and I wasn't really in the mood for toasties this is why I meantioned the space, there are plenty of picnic tables and chairs so a suggestion is taking a packed picnic, getting in early and riding on as many trains as you can for the day. Highly recommend having a family day out here.
My first but definitely not last visit to this local gem in Altona. Run by volunteers, everyone is so friendly and happy to smile and wave to the children. We only had time for 1 ride today but will be back another day! A small wait for our ride (perhaps 10 minutes in the que) but there are trains buzzing about and it didn't feel like too long (I understand it is better to come early, we visited in the afternoon around 2pm). Little tunnels around the tracks and big smiles from young and old alike.

Great place to take the kids and the staff are friendly. Just a note- beware of one of the neighbours who lives across the street. He is an older man who is very aggressive if you park on the street directly across from the entrance. He was physically abusive to a couple of people and sat on the bonnet of the cars saying they shouldn’t park there. He ended up throwing himself in the middle of the road claiming he was attacked. So best not to park in front of his place - one of the townhouses right at the end of the street on the left.
We love the train ride. It takes around 10min for the ride. $4.00 the ticket per person. You buy at the place. Had to wait around 15 to 20min in a queue, but it wasn't a problem to my little one and her friends. One ride for us was enough. We went to a cafe in Newport for a brunch after the ride. The backyard cafe is close and has a playground for the kids.

Parking space
Plenty of parking
If you and your family love ride-on minature trains you will enjoy going here. Very relaxing, the trains are beautiful and queues (particularly post 1.30pm) are not long. The volunteers run a tight and happy ship/train and it is all very safe. Parking is good. There are food vans and a jumping castle on site too. Lots of picnic tables if you want to bring a picnic. Trains tickets are value for money. All in all a great day out.
This is a hidden gem. The miniature train journey was long enough and only costed $3 per ride. There are other ticketing options if you plan to go on the train a few more times. There is also a jumping castle but you have to get a $3 ticket for that as well. And the jumping castle is timed too. Just make sure you have cash on you else there is a 50 cents credit card surcharge. There are tables where you can have a picnic at.
Very cool place for kids who love trains and even kids who aren't totally interested. The ride isn't very long, but is long enough to justify the price they charge. When we went only one food truck, but thats enough. Good place for birthday parties. Very friendly staff.

Was a great weekend activity with the kids, although it looked really busy it was only a 30min wait for our ride. Side note for solo parents take a support person lol cause if you don't it becomes a game of keep the spot in the line and lose your toddler or a great day out to chase the toddler whilst you watch others enjoy the train
This is a well run, seriously managed and technically professional operation. It's not some toy facility. My 2 year old daughter loves Thomas so this was a real hoot for her. There are multiple trains and they seem to go on different routes. In certain days they have cooking outlets and fun things for kids. Not expensive.
Excellent setup, fantastic mini trains, friendly staff happy to help with any requirements, if you or your kids like trains and want a fun day out, this place I can highly recommend, lots of tables/ seating 2x BBQ's avaliable for use at no extra cost, great day out and enjoyable for all young and old
A great experience for little ones! Well priced tickets, $4 per person for a ride and children under 12 months free. Also some multi ride deals as well. Don't be put off by a large queue waiting for a ride, the line moves quickly. Plenty of seating for a picnic and some miniature train spotting!
It was nice. Pretty much exactly what you'd expect. It was $3.50 per person and roughly 10 mins on the train. So reasonable value & kids enjoyed themselves. Not really anything else there though, so we just rode the train and left. (There were deals for all day rides too)
Nice little place where families can take their kids there to ride miniature steam trains and beautiful locomotives. I came from Berwick to pay a visit as I have always liked steam trains and found the place quite relaxing. There are take-away foods and drinks too.
Best place to bring a kid. The train ride was amazing for a mere $4 ticket. It was so pleasant through the miniature landscape as well that they set up. Thoroughly enjoyed it.

Fun day out for the kids & family. Several miniature trains, a tunnel & a decent sized track. BBQ facilities provided & shady trees for those hot days. The engineering skills of the people involved in this enterprise is truly admirable. Have a kids party there!
Altona is full of surprises , we have learnt. This is another one. Definitely in the circuit for mini railway fans. The track is quite large and the club seems very active. A worthwhile part of a family trip to the area but it doesn't open every weekend.
A fabulous place to take the family for a fun time as the people running the place are extremely friendly and the train ride is absolutely awesome a must go for everyone

A great time out with the kids! At such an affordable cost the place is busy with families but the line moves fast with several different trains running around the tracks. Food trucks on site if you forgot to bring a picnic are useful too
Awesome adventure for the kids. Great place to host a birthday party. They now take EFTPOS and there is usually a coffee van. The staff are very friendly and they are always expanding the tracks and adding to the miniature railway.
i've known about it for years but finally went for a visit on the weekend - it's a great setup, we did 1 ride as it was just before closing time, it's a fabulous spot to take the kids (big or small) for some train related fun More
Was good but not as engaging as I had hoped it would be for the kids. Trains were really cool. The scenery that makes it boring, they need to make lol Aussie miniatures to complement the trains that have a bit of work in them
Other than a 10min mini train ride there is nothing else to do there. Theres about 4 mini trains running at the same time, so queuing up takes about 10-15min. Would be better if there was a playground there for kids.
Great volunteers and the trains are nice, but it was too busy for us. We left with half our tickets as the wait time for rides was so long. We'll go again but try to get in early for a ride or two before the queues
A cheap afternoon of fun. Cheap tickets, a few food options, ice cream van onsite and clean (if not limited) toilets on site.

Great way to burn up an hour with the kids. Extensive track network with plenty of directions, tunnels and scenery. The worse part was trying to drag a 2 year old away who just wanted to ride the train again!
Good fun riding the trains with the kids. We sat at the provided table and chairs under a tree. Nice and handy for a family catch up. The grounds could be dressed up a bit but overall well worth a visit
Had a good time with my little one on the train ride. Good spot for spending time with family for picnic lunch.

In the web it says 'open'. Drove all the way there from Epping to find it closed with a big sign at the entrance saying 'open only once a month'. At least update your working hours on the Internet.
Great fun for the kids. Wait in the line isn’t too bad since they have a few trains running at a time.

this was quite a fun for the kids. I also enjoyed the ride definitely will come here again. track is quite long and ticket prices are also very reasonable. …
Open on 3rd Sunday of every month. 4$ per person (adults and kids). Under 12m old is free. Nice ride, 1.5km almost. Wait time is sometimes 45min-1hr otherwise ok.
Great hidden gem on once a month, $4 rides around a 10min track. Kids and adults alike. Run by volunteers. Picnic area, toilet and a coffee / twisty potato cart.
Great for young kids. Several trains going around taking about 10 minutes per fare ($3 per person over 12 months) so wait time is maybe a couple minutes at most.
Absolutely fabulous. The kids had a great time and the gentlemen operating the traina were marvelous with them. Definitely recommend for kids birthday parties.
It was nice, kids enjoyed it a lot. Only $3.50 per ride which goes for nearly 10 minutes. It’s better to buy the all day pass for $20 if your kids love trains.
This is absolutely fun, especially for kids. $4 per person for more than 10 mins train routes. Stuff are very friendly and there are food trunks there too.
As I have been to diamond Valley miniature train too So this is almost the same Great place for family outing and miniature train is the main thing to try

Lots of fun. Ticket value pack would be more generous if 12 tix instead of 11!! We had fun though and saved our leftover 3 for next time.
Not only kids but adults loved the rig! Well maintained for a fun ride and friendly staff that encourage you to jump into the carriages!
Great fun for kids. Get in early to avoid the line.

One ride is 3 AUD. Kids love it. People are nice and very good. But it would be much better if there is play ground for kids.
Kids love this place. Good activity for juniors. Check schedules before you proceed to this place. It’s not open everyday.
Good fun for the little ones. Not too sure what else to say. Cute little place. I’d try to arrive early to avoid crowds.
A great time was had by all

Fantastic track and trains, my three year old boy loved it. Well worth going. Lots of parking and friendly staff.
We were there recently for a private party, but have been there on public open day as well. Kids love it.
Lovely place to bring family. Little trains on mini tracks. Best time to visit after 13:00
This place is great fun. I might have enjoyed it more than my 2 year old son …
Another great community run fixture
