Visited this place on a rant Friday. Have heard they have DJ on Fridays and it is pretty busy, so reserved in advance. Only two tables were busy when we reached and we were asked if we had reservation prior. We requested booth and plenty were available. The place has rustic vibes and cozy interiors we ordered gobhi 65 and eggplant kale pakoras for appetizers. For dinner entrees we ordered chicken fried rice, daal tadka, gongura chicken and paneer mussallam. The curries were not buttery or creamy and each had a different taste and preparation. Overall, we were satisfied with the quality and quantity of food. Only reason was three stars: they added 15% gratuity to the check. That sounds unreasonable as the customers should not be compelled for gratuity, specially when there were not more than 6 people in our party. One should provide generous tip to the servers as the best practice and we adhere to that. But adding 15% to the check felt like forced payment and on top of that the service provided didn’t justify that.

Amara specializes in southern Indian cuisine. The Chicken Chettinad is a much heavier Curry than its creamy Northern cousins. it's also much hotter we ordered medium and it about did us in. the hakka noodles were light and more Asian than Indian and flavor. they provided a nice respite from the spicier chicken an oasis it in the desert. the veg in Manchurian gravy were actual vegetable balls. they have the consistency of fish balls I don't mean that in a bad way it's just a comparison they don't taste like fish they taste like veg. very interesting and worth a try. the naan is quite thin compared to other naans in town but still delicious and baked (or is it pan fried?) just right. looking forward to trying other things on the menu. do not confuse with India Cafe which is just two doors to the right. amara is exciting, interesting and bursting with flavor, India Cafe is bland and forgettable. also kudos for not using styrofoam. all of our dishes came in recyclable containers. compostable would be better.

My wife and I really loved this place. First off, the atmosphere in the restaurant is really great. The aesthetic is very modern chic, and the music was a riot, we loved it. Secondly, our server, Suel, was really attentive. He fielded questions about menu items, made sure our needs were met, and even introduced me to new music. Lastly, but by no means least, the food here is phenomenal. I’ve had plenty of Indian food in my life, and this is probably the best I have ever had. My only complaint about this place is that I am just visiting from out of town, so I can’t eat here more often. Come check it out. You will love it.

My friend Stephanie and I decided to check this place out tonight. It did not disappoint. Our server Wesley was ver helpful and attentive and everything from the drinks to the appetizers and the entrees were full of flavor and absolutely cooked to perfection. The tamarind cauliflower bites were like a better version of sweet and sour chicken (and I’m not usually a big vegetarian dish eater). The eggplant and kale pakora was wonderful as well and the cilantro sauce and the date sauce were perfectly paired with it. Surprisingly the tamarind margarita was delicious. I had the chitin and with chicken and it was full flavored with spices and peppercorns and my friend had the vegetable korma, which was buttery and sweet in a yellow curry. The naan and the basmati rice were also perfect. Fantastic meal!

Phenomenal! I highly recommend. They had plenty of options for vegan/vegetarian and very unique options. We had the Mirchi Bhaji, it was very good the chutney was a very unique flavor and my favorite chutney to date. Additionally we had the Tomato Pappu - yellow Dal. It was very good as well. The real star of the show was the Paneer Musallam. The masala was divine. It was rich and velvety with layers of flavor. The best masala sauce I’ve ever had the opportunity of tasting. Great environment, great service. We will definitely be back!

My family and I went here for lunch and practically had the restaurant to ourselves. But, we don't know why. The food was amazing. We got the chicken tikka masala (which most places can't screw up), butter chicken, chicken biryani and garlic naan. They were all fabulous and large portions. The waiter was very helpful and funny, and even shared a recipe with us for which he was particularly proud. It was our first time here, but it won't be the last. We may have found a new favorite Indian restaurant.

We really liked this place. The southern Indian dishes we tried were good (one of the best batches of Chicken 65 I've had), as were the northern Indian items (naan, etc.). It's also the only place in Indy I know of with such an extensive selection of indo-chinese dishes (Hakka noodles etc.). Smokey dal makhni and the lamb ghee roast were probably our favorites, but there were also a lot of dishes we didn't try (yet). Note that the server said all meats were halal but there is a bar/drinks menu, unclear if it is a hold over from whatever was previously in the space or not.

Our new favorite Indian restaurant! I can’t speak to the Indo-Chinese dishes, but the Indian dishes are outstanding-so much complex, layered flavor! Best samosas ever. Best lamb kurma ever (we’ve had many) and a wonderful dish I’ve never had (or seen) before: ghee roast lamb (soooo, so good!!!). Suel was very hospitable and an excellent server, too.

We went early on a Sunday night and were pleasantly surprised to find they had a buffet. Everything was good. Most were gluten free. The price was reasonable. I usually like to see an ethnic restaurant full of ethnic customers but the place was almost empty. The atmosphere was sports-bar like with several TVs. My only complaint was they had country music playing far too loud for our taste.

I was there for lunch buffet last week and I have reviewed this place before, I had the worst experience. There was a buffet for lunch. My friends n me reached there at 11:30am, buffet starts at 11am. The food was absolutely cold and the spoons for the veg n non veg were mixed up,the chicken was over cooked, food was tasteless...and only saving grace was hot Naan which got washed down the toilet by the serving staff. There was only one guy out side with glasses and Generally I ask their names BUT THIS GUY WAS EXTREMELY RUDE TO MY FRIENDS N ME. I WOULDN'T BE GOING BACK!!

I hate to leave such a bad review, but tonight’s experience was absolutely one of the worst dining experiences of my life. We got the dinner buffet- food was cold. We finished our meal before we ever received our drinks (45 minutes in), and waited over an hour to get our check. Last time I went the food was amazing but service was not great, and today it was abominable. Unfortunately we will not return.

Chicken Tikka Masala
One of the best Paneer Tikka Masalas I have had in the US. The paneer did not look like it was store bought. It was super soft, yet holding its shape. The Kale and Eggplant pakodas was well made and the oil seemed fresh. The naan was perfect as well. The service was good, but understandably slow since they opened less than 10 days ago. If they maintain the food standards, this will be the best Indian restaurant in Indiana.

Amara was recommended by a coworker and I had high expectations. We were greeted with a 10 minute wait with a half empty dining area. The service was slow and forced as though the staff was overwhelmed. We had to ask for water refils. The food compared to other establishments with similar options was somewhere in the middle with the most noticeable disappointment being the spring roll. The vegetable filling was too soft. Finally I haven't been to many places that make me feel like I need to leave immediately and that's how the experience ended. Potential but not my cup of tea.
We visited on a Sunday afternoon, and there were no other diners in the restaurant. We were greeted by multiple people and took a seat at the bar. Upon the recommendation from our server, we ordered the Chicken Chettinad. It was Absolutely fantastic! Full of flavor, lots of chicken, perfect spice level. We will definitely be coming back!!

Their food is very tasty and their presentation is beautiful. We had the Amara Eggplant and Kale Chaat, Blackened Chicken Tandoori, Saag Burrata, and Goat Chettinad. I highly recommend all of the dishes. The Blackened Chicken Tandoori is really special like nothing I've tried. I also really enjoyed the twist on saag with the burrata cheese. Absolutely unbelievable food. Specializes in South Indian as well as Indo-Chinese fusion. We tried the chili garlic noodles, the Daal, the Chicken 65 and a marinated chicken skewer, all were genuinely excellent and beautifully presented, and the daal in particular is some of the best I’ve ever had. We spoke with the owner, who was very nice, and she said the daal is smoked in house and cooked over 24 hours. It tasted like it. I cannot recommend Amara highly enough. If you love flavor, GO!

Excellent food by Chef Ripan ! And host Suell ! Manchurian was fantastic ! Noodles were crunchy and flavorful! The kids loved and asked for seconds on the paneer chilly appetizers and veg spring rolls were gone before the adults finished our chat ! Egg fried rice was mild and to our liking as asked !! No doggy bags !! Our family from out of town were impressed with this level of Fine Indian dining Can’t wait to visit again !

We have been here twice. Certain dishes were good- blackened chicken, Hakka noodles. But on this particular day, we ordered an uttappam. It was extremely thick and hence uncooked. It came with Sam at which was a thick blob. The worst part was when we asked for hot sauce, they gave the three pot sauce thing and when I opened it, there was a layer of fungus. When I saw that, I didn’t really feel like going back there again.

Best Indian restaurant in Carmel/Indianapolis area. Flavors closest to one’s in restaurants in India. Hope they don’t change chef ever. Simply heavenly. Best Indian food among all the Indian restaurants in Carmel by far. Paneer tikka masala is phenomenal. Gobi appetizer is great. Paratha is awesome. People should really try more than just chicken and naan here.

Pathetic service. We had a really bad experience there. There was just one waitress in the whole restaurant it took over an hour to get food. On the top of it they charged us for the item we didn’t order in first place and had no system whatsoever of refund. Also they added 15%gratuity to our bill for that pathetic service. Total waste of time and money. Very disappointed.

Food was great and the space looks newly renovated. Good portion sizes for the price. I loved the info-Chinese options, something unique amongst the local Indian restaurants. The server was friendly, but we had some communication issues. Be sure to have him read the order back to ensure that it is correct. Overall, really liked it and would be back. I got the chili chicken, parota, and biriyani.

The gulab jamun was really good: warm and soft. The paapadi chaat was also very tasty, authentic indian taste. The only problem is the price for paapadi chaat was $13 and the quantity is very less. It felt like a rip off. When we spend $13 on a chaat item we want sufficient quantity. $13 for a few bites is just insulting. It’s better to order from somewhere like Bawarchi where they give really good quantity.
The service was good. Every dish was super salty and not worth the money. The drinks were not great which would have been ok had the food been amazing. The food was subpar at best. Looking at the menu beforehand had great expectations. Disappointed to say the least.

Wanted to try this place becuase of all the great reviews we read. Made a to-go order and 1 of the rices was only half full, and our dish had plenty of sauce but only 3-4 pieces of chicken for each person. Wasn’t worth the $16 for each person for the amount of food we received.

Chicken 65
The food is outstanding. It tastes exactly like the Indo-Chinese food we got back in Kolkata. The ambience is very classy as well. 5 stars!
We ordered a bunch of things and everything was amazing. The service was exceptional as well. Highly recommend this place!
