"This is a great place that helps you step outside of yourself for a moment"
"A win! It's impossible to get bored in San Antonio with outstanding places like Artpace"
"This is a contemporary art gallery and residency so Unique opportunities in the artpace building: nice staff, knowledgeable about the artwork, sometimes artists are in house and ready to chat, a lot of events happening with beer and wine, artist talks where they share their perspective on process, journey, life, art and more"
"Unique art gallery that houses local, national and international artists thrice a year, Artpace is a must if you’re downtown"
It's okay. First time visiting the place. Went to their Friday morning event on the rooftop for donuts and coffee. Climbed up a lot of stairs to get to the top, I found the elevator after I got to the top. Wasn't sure what to do when I got there. No one was greeting people or informing them about the event. Had some flyers and books on a table with the donuts. Only had coffee, no water for non-coffee drinkers. Went inside to see what that was about. The receptionist seemed preoccupied with her phone but was able to tell me where the restrooms were, which were nice. Asked if I could walk around to see the artwork. Receptionist said yes and informed me about more on the 2nd floor. I was able to wonder around with out anyone asking me if I needed help or checking on me. I didn't go into areas that were restricted, but probably could have. Art was interesting. I was able to look at it without a lot of people around. Overall it was ok. Liked sitting outside.
This is a great place that helps you step outside of yourself for a moment. When I went today I felt like the pieces had no trouble reaching me and making me feel some kind of emotion towards the exhibits. Some of the show pieces made me feel things I didn’t mind feeling. Other pieces made me feel very uncomfortable. I assume that’s what art does to people; makes them feel things they don’t necessarily want to feel. To be honest I wanted to rate this place one star less but I guess it’s not fair because the place was ran spectacularly. The kind woman at the front desk was very knowledgeable about the place and what they offered to the public. I didn’t have trouble finding my way around and the exhibits had a lot of information about the pieces that made you really appreciate the art and the artist.
A win! It's impossible to get bored in San Antonio with outstanding places like Artpace. It's intriguing how 9 artists (3 from Texas, 3 from anywhere in the US, and 3 from all over the world) are invited to live and work here for a 4 month time period (in 3 different cycles). The entire experience is FREE (artist's lectures are even offered). The vibe and atmosphere are both uplifting and empowering. Contemporary, fun, inspirational, and informative- all rolled into one. An added bonus: Delicious food trucks nearby. Artpace is proof that you don't have to go far and spend a ton of money to enjoy meaningful experiences. 100% recommend.
This is a contemporary art gallery and residency so Unique opportunities in the artpace building: nice staff, knowledgeable about the artwork, sometimes artists are in house and ready to chat, a lot of events happening with beer and wine, artist talks where they share their perspective on process, journey, life, art and more. They also have community activities often for families and teens, tours if you schedule 2 weeks ahead and educational archives waiting in the back for you to pour over!
Unique art gallery that houses local, national and international artists thrice a year, Artpace is a must if you’re downtown. Be sure to get there early as they close at 5 PM. Free parking is available in a parking lot a block away off Flores. I made my first visit today and loved it. The main exhibit wasn’t open yet (it starts Thursday and ends in January sometime), but I thoroughly enjoyed the Alex de Leon exhibit available upstairs.
awesome free space for unique art exhibitions & collections in a prime location downtown! we enjoyed the tribute to DJ Screw entitled “Slowed & Throwed: Viewing Houston through a Mutated Lens”, very interesting to see real artifacts such as grey screw tapes, hand written track lists, letters, LP records etc all personally owned by the originator Robert Earl Davis himself. Will return to SA’s public art hub soon!
Good news is admission was free w/ donations accepted. Everything else about this gallery was entirely too small to even be noteworthy. As well as I understand their premise, this operation provides residencies for artists to live and work for approximately 2 months and exhibit during the third month. The gallery was only about the size of 1 large room. Artpace was endowed by the Pace pecante (salsa) family.
I love this place. If you are an studying to be an artist or an architect, I recommend going here and checking the exhibits. Some of thier events are very interesting and it is a very good opportunity to volunteer so you can have good experience and also good record for your resumes. Other than that, it's a good place to start off in art and design.
It was kind of a weird experience. While the art was beautiful and very sophisticated, it didn't feel like much was happening outside of it. You are given two rooms to explore and that's it. I went really slow through the exhibits and it took me approximately 10 minutes to read everything.
Great opening reception for Raul Gonzalez & Daniel Rios Rodriguez. Thanks to Künstler Brewing for the beer and wine. You definitely should check out Artpace when you get a chance. They have a great history of resident artists and a fabulous view from their rooftop.
Art pace offers the best of contemporary art. With six large scale spaces and frequent showings of resident artists, visitors can see what professionals are doing in the current art world. Rooftop access provides a unique view of the city,
I can't speak for the galleries, but their Rooftop Party they put on for their members and KRTU members is always fantastic. Great music, good food and drinks, and great views. And the staff at Artpace is always really nice and welcoming.
I went once last month. I was taken away by the exhibits. Very creative cultural artist. I stopped by again to see what new exhibits that had for you month month and I was still very pleased. Wonderful staff and friendly exhibit host
If you’re looking for a local art museum that always has great exhibits, and is FREE, Artpace is the place to check out. Located near downtown proper, the museum has awesome exhibits on rotation with contributing artists actually
It was my first time visiting. And only three parts of the museum were available. To be honest it was a major let down. San Antonio Art League and Museum is way better and free as well. I highly suggest you visit them instead.
Stumbled across this perfect lil local art museum, and it absolutely made my day! It’s free. The exhibit rooms are stunning. The staff were so kind and friendly. It’s not big or time consuming, but I still loved my time here
Interesting local spot for artists both local and afar. Needed bias toward female artists, but could use a bit higher caliber curation to draw top notch artists...still a bit pedestrian.
It was very interesting. The person at the front desk was helpful and told my group was artpace was about and the amazing artist exhibition that was here. I had a good time.
Artpace is a cool little art gallery that’s really fun to wander around in. When we visited, all the gallery spaces were open so there was a good variety of art to explore.
Kind of a intimate setting. Friendly staff. And art. Giant list of the in house artists since its inception. Will return once I get enough time or am in the area.
I've visited you guys twice and i must admit that it will continue in the future!! I love all the art work it is very unique and i love it !!!! Great job!!!!!!
Love this place! Go see the current summer residencies exhibits and the Hudson Showroom. Great artwork from artist's around Texas, the US and internationally.
Great, "free" thing to do downtown for art lovers. "Free", in that you should at least donate if you visit, but there is no pressure to do so!
Beautiful place with awesome artists and workers. The show they have now on immigration is very powerful. Would reccomend checking it out!
Kite art expo and rooftop live Zydeco/roots music. Welcoming venue and workshops to avant garde artists and viewing audiences alike
i like the artist in residence premise greatly :) the staff was kind and friendly. i look forward to many future visits
This is a great little free art museum in San Antonio. You probably won’t spend more than 15 minutes here though.
Great exhibits that are constantly changing. Friendly staff. Free to the public. Has rooftop events at times.
I love Artpace! I enjoy many of the exhibits, shows, and talks they host. I’m always coming back for more.
Hidden Gem, I always enjoy stopping by here when visiting San Antonio to see new artists work on display.
Cool spot. Like the idea of hosting international artists and creating an environment for local talent.
I work downtown and I love to see all the creative artwork at this gallery. This place is a gem ❤ …
Not much going on. 3 of 5 galleries closed. Lots of potential here and we donated to the cause.
Free admission- frequent changing exhibits -school programs -the newest art -visiting artists.
I always enjoy a Sunday afternoon at Artspace. Grateful for the free, convenient parking.
Was invited when working for blue moon beer. Great experience. Was honored to be there.
I used to be a member of MFAH. Now, I am becoming a member of ARTPace. I am stoked!
This place is very small, the art is very weird. I don't think I would come back
Very cool art space, lots of interesting work by resident and visiting artists.
Rotating art from one Texas-based, one national, and one international artist.
Great free place with local artists! Newr the library in the downtown area.
Amazing hidden gem art gallery, and rooftop event space in downtown SA.
art was nice, but not much art available to see which is understandable
Friday morning mixers on the rooftop are a great way to start the day!
Cool space with interesting installations, a must for freebie lovers.
Small, but they have interesting exhibits with knowledgeable staff.
Love the concept! Definitely will visit again. In the future!
pretty disturbing and weird on top floor but still cool
Love seeing all the art from San Antonio Artists!
Awesome gallery! Beautiful thought provoking art.
Always innovative art work. Visit, well worth it
We'll curated. Cool building. Nice staff.
