Very poor vehicle maintenance if any, very unhelpful staff. Rented an SUV from this location for a couple of days. The first vehicle we were given was a Kia Sorrento (which seemed nearly brand new) until I tried to adjust the seat and realized that it seemed incredibly loose. Upon further investigation it was clear that the seat bolt was either missing or sheered off entirely. I also made note of a bunch of other damage to the vehicle. I asked for a different car and was promptly given another vehicle. This vehicle was much older but seemed to be in working order so I was on my way. About 10-15 minutes into our journey we noticed that the acceleration was lacking and while merging into the free way we had the battery and other lights come on the dash. We pulled over and contact roadside assistance who told us to continue driving and they would locate a car near our destination. 30 minutes later we were told that there were not any cars in the area and we would have to “drive back to San Francisco Airport” to get a replacement. We weren’t about to drive an hour back the opposite direction in a car that we were not sure worked. We stopped in Napa and had a shop there verify that the battery was able to hold a charge and we wouldn’t be stranded. We return to this location to drop the car off (a few minutes past their closing time- to be fair) and when I tried to signal an employee inside to simply explain the issues I was having - they rudely dismissed me and told me to come back tomorrow. I can understand not wanting to stay late and being off at a specific time - but a business owner should always have someone around who can address special issues like this concerning safety and vehicle problems. It is both unprofessional and rude of the employees or owners to dismiss my concerns without even hearing what my issue was. They were so incredibly carefree about the problems my family had experienced as a result of the poor service they provided. To add insult to injury - when I spoke through the closed door “hey this vehicle had problems and could have left us stranded” the worker inside laughed and said “come back tomorrow”. They then left with their heads down and locked up and walked right past me with zero regard for my issues. This is maybe an example of quiet quitting or employees who have zero care for their customers. The situation is not yet resolved as I still haven’t been able to speak to anyone there. I will be returning first thing in the morning to close out the rental. I will never in a million years rent another car from any AVIS location. Which is too bad because I’ve rented cars from them all over the world - but I don’t feel comfortable using an agency who’s maintenance and customer service is allowed to falter in such drastic ways. They are lucky they don’t have legal action over the seat issue from the first car. That car if not fixed and rented out to someone else - could kill someone.

This specific AVIS Branch (500 beach st, san francisco) rented us a vehicle which put my families lives at risk. On the 22/09/23 we rented a vehicle. We had requested a smaller SUV but we were given a large Jeep 4X4. When we took it out onto the freeway approximately 30 minutes later the right rear tyre had a sudden deflation. The freeway was six lanes wide and my wife and two young children were in the car. I managed to somehow get it off the freeway. Upon inspecting the tyres I noticed they were bald. Some had so much damage there were deep cuts down the the canvas. This damage was on all tyres. Clearly AVIS did not perform a safety inspection on this vehicle prior to leasing it. Whilst stranded on the side of the road I was then forced to change the tyre and then drive the 4X4 to Oakland airport. AVIS later sent me a report stating I was to blame for the tyre damage. I had the vehicle for half an hour! I have photos of the vehicle which are date and time stamped to prove it. Plus we are at Oakland airport perhaps 3 hours after taking the vehicle off the lot at San Francisco. So it was impossible to cause this damage on four sets of heavy duty 4X4 tyres. This is ongoing. AVIS themselves have been disgusting during this entire process.

Ni se os ocurra recoger en avis fisherman wharth de sqn francisco. La señora que atiende sólo quiere sacar dinero por todo, mintiendo y o respetando as condiciones de la reserva. A nosotros nos dijo que lo del conductor adicional incluido no aplicaba en california y que tenía que pagarlo si quería que alguien condujera, el coche del 2019 con u testigo de necesidad de mantenimiento encendido que, según nos dijo, se había activado al lavar el coche. Sin bandeja en el maletero, lo que permitía ver el equipaje y nos impidió parar en lugares en el camino. Según ella en california ningún sur lleva bandeja. Lo que te era mentira pues los que vimos la tenían y este, además, tenía el carril como de haberla tenido. No entiendo que avis tenga a personas d3 este nivel gestionando una oficina. A pesar de tener todos los seguros contratados, tuve que contratar otro porque, según ella, si no, si tenía alguna avería en carretera teníamos que asumir los gastos de grúa.. nosotros... indicar que el estado del coche era lamentable. presentaré una reclamación formal a avis puesto que tengo pruebas de todo lo que aquí indico

Funcionária, na retirada, bastante grossa. Carro abaixo do esperado. Como sempre, colocam uma foto no grupo (ao qual o veículo pertence) e fornecem um veículo bem abaixo das expectativas. Não houve qualquer orientação de como devolver o veículo fora do horário de atendimento. Trata-se de um processo que poderia ser simples se bem orientado, mas acaba sendo realizado sem que se saiba o procedimento adequado. O veiculo é deixado numa vaga de estacionamento, as chaves devem ser deixadas num ponto q ninguém informa onde é, nem como deve ser feito. Quem mostrou este ponto de coleta foi um senhor da limpeza do estacionamento. No ponto coletor há informação de deixar o "envelope", sem que saibamos exatamente que envelope é e o que deveria ser colocado nele, além das chaves. Na retirada em São Francisco, foi entregue uma ficha, sem que tenhamos sido informados para que era. Como havia dados em branco (sobre a entrega), como odômetro, horário de entrega e quantidade de combustível, preenchemos e deixamos junto, porém, ser saber se o processo estaria correto.

Would NOT recommend. They gave us a car for three weeks that was in horrible condition and dangerous, lack of safety and lack of maintenance standards. Every day we discovered more and more problems with the car. Biggest security risk - state of the tires. Starting with the fact that tires were not the same on the same axle which can cause car spin when breaking on wet and destroy car differential mechanism. On top of that state of the two tires did not meet the required by law thread depth of 2/32" (both left tires which again can cause car to spin or increasing drastically chances of aquaplaning). Adding to the list tires were not evenly used which suggest suspension misalignment which again is a security risk. Due to that, we gave the car back early. On top of that instead of apologizing they had the nerve to tell us we can not expect a „new“ car. Absolutely despicable behavior, unfriendly and ungrateful people working there. I have no words on how we were treated there, they should get fired right away. DO NOT book your car via Avis in SF.

Zunächst gibt es einen Stern, weil die Wartezeit kurz war. Alles weitere ist schon unverschämt. Ich buche regelmäßig im Ausland Mietwägen, aber diese Station und der Zustand des PKW waren bis dato das schlechteste was ich erlebt habe. Die Dame am Schalter war sehr unfreundlich und wollte unbedingt ihre Zusatzversicherungen verkaufen. Auch den zweiten Fahrer hatte sie aufgeschlagen. Ich erklärte ihr, dass ich in Deutschland schon alles vor gebucht hatte, und keine weiteren Gebühren bezahlen werden. Danach bekam ich den Schlüssel und eine kurze Beschreibung dass mein Fahrzeug im dritten Stock des Parkhauses stehen würde. Leider gibt es wohl kein Übergabeprotokoll, da das Fahrzeug mit Kratzern und kleinen Schäden übersäht war. So machten wir akribisch von jedem Schaden Fotos. Außen wie innen war das Auto dreckig und wir haben den Müll der Vormieter entsorgt. Zu guter letzt stellten wir nach 6 Milen fest, dass der Tank nicht voll war. Ich für mich, werde kein Auto bei Avis mehr anmieten.

I booked a Toyota Camry for 6 days but I switched to a convertible when I arrived in San Francisco at the Avis pickup station. Before taking up the car in San Francisco, certain Avis-customer care worker told me via E-Mail, a loss damage wavior is already included in my booking which was in total 380$. When I picked up the car in San Francisco, they told me there is no insurance included in my booking which is absolutely wrong! So they added up an expensive insurance! I was asking for a receipt at the pickup station in San Francisco, but they told me, they cannot print me one or rather send it to me per E-Mail. So I picked up the car without knowing how much I will pay in the end. Furthermore, I wrote some Email's to the Avis customer service if they can give me an information how much I'll pay in total but they didn't help me. By the end it was 955 $ in total which is extremely bold. I am upset and don't think I will book with Avis again.

Happy Avis customer for 12years and this is the first time something has gone wrong. A car ran into the back of us and although we got a replacement car the next morning, the following customer service was really poor. Everyone was friendly but telling the same story to avis roadside assistance and avis customer services was painful. In my opinion it is clear that the departments do not speak to each other and I lost count of how many phone calls and emails I sent explaining the same story. (Including three lost calls when on hold, To round things off I also had an incorrect fuel charge at the end which finished me off. Everything sorted out eventually with lots of apologies but this should have been a lot easier. I will go back to Avis (as I think there are a lot worse out there), but if something goes wrong, be prepared for hugely frustrating and long phone calls waiting for departments to speak to each other

AVIS USA ARE SCAMMERS - DO NOT RENT I rented a Toyota Rav4 for my California trip. I got my first car in San Francisco Airport, a very poorly maintained and dirty Toyota 4Runner with a slow puncture in the right rear wheel. After 10 days of travelling inflating the tire every 1-2 days in gas stations I arrived at LA for exchanging the car and... SURPRISE! I had to visit 3 locations of AVIS (with the first ones denying AVIS customer service and lacking respect) to get a DOWNGRADE to a Toyota Corolla. After discussing with Customer service we agreed on a refund and after hours and hours of calls that cost me money and time and frustration, my final receipt comes and I have an extra charge of 40 USD for fuel even though I topped the tanks both times I left the two vehicles and one of them was not full when I got it (the Toyota). AVIS USA IS A COMPLETE SCAM DO NOT RENT FROM THESE GUYS.

Quite a long slow queue at 10am on a Saturday and got rather worried listening to all the people in front complaining that they didn't get the SUV they wanted or returning a car because aircon was broken. Our turn came and the lady processed our collection quickly and handed me keys to a very nice 4Runner with 10K miles on the clock. I'm really not sure whether this was just dumb luck or because we'd booked direct with Avis and many of the others seemed via other booking sites. Returned it in Vegas via after-hours keys drop and overall very pleased. Only minor niggle is an $18 refuel charge despite our rental agreement saying 7/8 full and we returned it completely full. Apparently it's because they want to see a receipt for the refuel but I don't see what that proves since that wouldn't tell them if you filled it or not - plus how do I submit that for an after-hours dropoff?

While our customer service was great, the vehicle was not. Our car smelled TERRIBLE, but we tried to air it out with the windows down and get on with our trip. Not only did the smell get worse, but we began noticing small flies inside the vehicle. The next morning, I dug around under the seats and found a container of rotten fruit, along with other trash that was overlooked by the cleaner (see photos). At this point we were hours outside of the city, so we just decided to clean it ourselves and buy an air freshener. While the smell became tolerable, nothing stopped the fruit flies unfortunately, who were probably breeding and spawning from the rotten fruit juices seeped into the carpet. The car itself was in good condition otherwise, but for a $700+ rental I would expect better.

So booked a car 3 months before travelling to san francisco as we are from Australia. We went to go pick car up and the office was closed due to a big marathon on this day. No communication to us at all of this happening. A poland couple that did not speak much english was also there to pick there rental car up and had no idea what to do. We had to go to the hotel next door for help as being international travels our phones did not work. Not to mention the number left on the door was not much help at all. After and hour or so we finally got a car organised by the wonderful and helpful staff(Barron) from Avis los Angeles Airport. We still have had no communication from you or an apology let alone any reimbursements owed to us for the mess around.

Worst service ever. Very disappointed at Avis. I was the driver and my friend called this Avis store at 12/22 16:50 to report a problem and request to change the car. As a preferred customer, we know we have the right to return and exchange the car whenever we want. But the woman who picked up my phone was so rude and impatient, she didn’t wait for my friend to finish and ask us to go to the airport which is one more hour drive. She even hung up the phone twice when My friend tried to explain the problem. Apparently, this woman just wanted to get off work and she didn’t care about the customers at all. Avis manager, if you’re looking at it, I want to tell you that this is not profesional and it is the worst service I’ve ever received so far.

Pick up of the car was fine. However no one came to the car with me to check it. I was given keys and told where it was. Car was dirty inside (not so much that I'd not take it. But I'd expect better). No one came to the car to show Any of the features. Car had lots if minor scratches and I felt I had to take a lot of before and after pics. I had a one way car hire to the Luxor Hotel. No signs of where to park/drop off when you get there. Although I got to the Avis desk at 2.45pm there was no one there. Even though not supposed to close until 3pm. A nice car (Ford Mustang) at a reasonable cost. Just let down a little by the overall service.

ביקשתי רכב עם גלגל חלופי בתחנת האיסוף, טענו שאין רכב מהקטגוריה עם גלגל חלופי. נאלצנו להיכנס לתחנת אוויס נוספת לאחר מספר ימים בטיול לאחר שלא קיבלנו מענה טלפוני. ביקשנו גלגל חלופי או רכב אחר עם גלגל חלופי, נתנו לנו שוב רכב ללא גלגל חלופי. כשחזרתי לדלפק לבקש רכב אחר, שלחו אותי לבדוק אם ברכב אחר יש גלגל חלופי. לשמחתי היה שם גלגל וכשחזרתי לדלפק לקחת את הרכב שאליו שלחו אותי, הסתבר שאותה נציגה ששלחה אותי לבדוק, נתנה בזמן הזה את הרכב למישהו אחר. פשוט מגוחך. שירות מזעזע. רק לאחר התערבות מנהל נפתרה הבעיה. במקום לפצות על עוגמת הנפש והזמן שבוזבז לי בחופשה, ולשדרג אותנו, קיבלנו רכב פחות טוב מזה שהגענו איתו.

Por primera vez en mi vida sufrí de un ataque de racismo, ha sido de las peores experiencias de mi vida. La señora (adulta mayor, caucásica) me amenazo con anular mi reserva si no adquiría los seguros adicionales, ante mi negativa me grito y me tiro el teléfono celular y siguió atendiendo a otras personas. Tuvimos al final que pagar los cargos adicionales para poder retirar el vehículo. Muy triste que traten de esa manera a los turistas que llegamos a pasar un buen rato y terminamos con tan mal sabor de boca. Sin embargo la señora no arruino mis vacaciones y la pasamos genial!

I have to say this! Andrea (the manager) needs to teach classes on customer service cause she literally is the best I’ve ever seen! Anybody want lessons? Go to her! I feel like family over there. To her, service is #1, not just taking money from people like others. Others take your money and don’t care one rats behind about you or how you feel!! Andrea, THANK YOU SO MUCH! You’ve earned my loyalty and ruined me for all other companies and I want to thank you for that! For all of you out there, she’s the best! GO TO HER and you’ll see what I’m talking about right away! :) :) :)

Reserved a Tesla model 3 or similar. Upon arrival, was told no EVs available and was given a big Jeep instead. This defeated the whole purpose of booking a Tesla (to avoid gas cost) and also left our luggage completely exposed (not possible to hide jn the Jeep), which is obviously unacceptable in SF. Ultimately we were able to swap car at SFO but the Fisherman’s Wharf staff did not provide any help at all in that process. Edit: I appreciate Avis customer service’s help in making things right after the fact; increasing rating from 1 to 3 stars to reflect this

Voiture récupérer le 10/072022. Voiture neuve en parfait état (10 000km) de gabarit très légèrement inférieur à la gamme choisie (Jeep Gd Cherokee au lieu d'un Nissan Pathinder) , mais cela n'a pas posé trop de problème pour les bagages. Du monde lors de la récupération du véhicule et l'attente pour la prise du véhicule s'est effectué dans la rue sans possibilité de s'asseoir (sauf le sol). Certaines personnes attendaient depuis le matin 8h00. Nous avons eu peur mais sommes parti avec 30min de retard sur notre horaire, en début d'après-midi.

3 reklamationer overfor AVIS i San Fransisco. 1. Bilen var overhovedet ikke klargjort til udlejning: Ikke støvsuget eller rengjort indvending (klistret og ulækker) 2. kørsel med hastighed over 35 - 40 miles skramlede det fra undervognen, forsøgte at få kontakt telefonisk til AVIS uden held, konstant på hold. 2. AVIS fakturerer os for påfyldning af brændstof ifm. Aflevering i lufthavnen. Vi havde påfyldt brændstof ca 5 km fra lufthavnen. 76 - San Bruno Bil: Ford Explorer (New York plader) nr KBT 5752 Helt igennem en meget dårlig oplevelse.

Aardige mensen bij pick-up,maar de auto had slechte banden,daardoor 1 lekke band opgelopen.Service lampje ging ook na 150 km al branden,en ruitenvloeistof was leeg Communicatie met de roadside assistentie was niet goed.Erg kort af en vroeg niet door.Beetje jammer.diegene had zijn dag niet denk ik.Nu even afwachten of wij de kosten van de reparatie van de band terug krijgen.Verder goede prijs.... Nu week later...hebben ze het netjes opgelost,jammer dat er een revieuw voor nodig was,maar zijn blij met de oplossing!

A pior experiência de locação de veículo da minha longa vida. Fiz a reserva pelo site por tinha condições melhores. O escritório local não reconheceu e me fez pagar novamente, no valor deles. Mandaram (esse é o termo) que eu me entendesse com o cartão de crédito. O carro estava com o vidro opaco, tentei limpar por 40 minutos e foi impossível. Veículos não são limpos ou revisados entre as locações. Serviço barato, não econômico. Sem qualquer empatia ou preocupação com a experiência do cliente

Au lieu de répondre nous somme désolé d'apprendre que bla bla .. arrêtez de facturer des frais et ajustement de prix une fois la voiture retourné. Je me demande si une seule personne a déjà payé exactement le prix convenu sans un petit extra. J'en doute Ajout: aucunement confiance que la situation ce régle avec un courriel déjà envoyé à cette adresse général je viens de bloquer ma carte de crédit je peux rien faire pour les paiement antérieure mais ça va au moins cesser.

Did not get my car as im using a prepaid CC (have to by bank conditions). I booked and payed the car with said card and that these are not accepted was no where mentioned and in such a case it shouldnt even be possible to book and pay a car. Dont even know by now if I'll get the 900$ back. Thanks for nothing. The one Star is literally for the frendly staff who helped me through my little meltdown and offered some advise, as this basically leaves me stranded in SF.

I returned the car about 2 hours late (and called well ahead of time to let them know) and they charged me $390! for less than 2 hours! The woman who checked the car in said I was good to go and gave no mention or warning that I was going to get clobbered with this extra bill. I will never do business again with Avis as any company that gouges its customers without warning or recourse is totally unethical.

Staff was friendly , knowledgeable and fast service. The car I rented the 1st day was brand new and clean. The 2nd day I rented which is a couple of days later was a car with higher mileage and maybe older. I wish that they explained the gas refill options to me so that I don't have to go they the bad experience at the gas station. But overall I am very satisfied with the service and the experience.

FYI for return process: their car return location is in the mall parking garage building next/behind it at same side of street. You can drive up to 3rd floor of anchorage parking garage to find avis lots. Remember the gas and miles and get back down to their office to finalize the return. (At least it is how I find it after a few phone call and explore, hope they post some official guidance)

I reserved a suv for 6 people in November. At pick up on 07/14 no suv. Granted they gave us 2 sedans but that created extra expenses for gas, tolls and park passes. My friends flew 11 hours and one of the highlights should have been Yosemite. I had only a reservation for one vehicle so we were not allowed in the park. I will never use Avis again. Thanks for the stress and disappointment

How can you feel good about a company that was price gouging during the pandemic. They continue to take advantage of clients when they aggressively push things like roadside assistance as an insurance product. Roadside assistance is a rip-off. All it gives is a number to call so they can send a high priced tow truck to your location at the client's complete expense.

We rented a car from Fisherman's Wharf, SF drove it for a week and dropped it back to LAX. We were expecting a Ford Edge or similar, but needed up with an awesome Jeep Wrangler which was a fantastic road trip car. Collection was very quick and easy, took 5 mins and a couple of signatures, drop off was instant. Very good service, very decent price.

DO NOT USE!! As soon as the avis worker saw that were turning in the car at another place, he took to great lengths to find the shitiest car he had! It had warning lights on, itsmelled bad, was dirty, and had a lot of damages to it! I would never use this place again, and I rent cars a lot through my occupation this is the worst I’ve encountered.

Class of car ordered Full Size was unailable and was offered a smaller car or an "upgrade" of an SUV Jeep. Had I wanted an SUV i would have ordered one so had to squeeze 4 adults and luggage into the smaller jeep. To give you an example.......A 2 seater convertible would also have been an upgrade but would have been equally useless ! Avoid !

I had a pre-paid car reservation. When I was picking up the car, the employee at the counter told me that I could not drive in the State of California without an Additional Liability Insurance. She said the insurance was compulsory, etc etc. As I don't live in USA I hired. U$15,85/day. I found out later it was a lie. Avis never more.

No contratéis con esta compañía , llevamos esperando mas de dos horas y no nos dan explicaciones, es una estafa…. No contratéis. Una familia española en San Francisco..

Happy with the initial car until the brakes failed after 200 miles (due to brake fluid leak). The issue was dealt with within a few hours, and they even arranged an Uber to take us to the best rental location over 70 miles away to collect a replacement car. Drop off at the airport was also extremely easy. Would use them again.

no problems here. showed up at around noon to pickup our kia k5 car with only 400 miles on it. easy to find it in the car garage from the numbered parking spot. lady was very nice and telling us about filling up the gas with prices near the airport very high also. and explained what happens for the toll roads and charging.

Front desk was super accommodating. The first car we were supposed to pick up was low on gas so she easily switched us to a new car, and ultimately ended up upgrading us to something better. She was also very helpful with any questions we had in terms of buying insurance. I look forward to renting from this location again!

Absolutely horrendous experience. DO NOT RENT HERE. We returned our rental one month ago and received a repo notice in the mail - FOR A CAR PARKED IN THEIR GARAGE. Every single phone call has gone unanswered, and the corporate customer service can not get in touch with this location either. I repeat: do not rent here.

The woman who worked at the SF Fisherman s wharf location was friendly and prompt. She gave helpful instructions and got us the car we needed with no wait. A first for me in the car rental business!! Our SUV was perfect for Yosemite trip and was clean---drove well----great AC for 100 degree days as well

Great car. Terrible service at the SF/Fisherman's Wharf location. No one explains anything about the operation of the car, how tolls are accounted for and paid, and returning the vehicle without being charged to enter the parking structure where the car is to be returned.

We had to wait nearly an hour to collect our car in San Francisco as only one member of staff working and lots of people collecting car. The car itself was great and the drop off was slick and professional however. Score would have been higher if not for the collection.

The pick-up facility at Fisherman's Wharf in SF is clean, convenient, and staffed by friendly, helpful employees. The car performed flawlessly on over 500 miles of driving, and was near brand new. The drop off could not have been easier at the San Jose (SJC) airport.

Rude staff at Fisherman's wharf location. Received a dirty car inside out. Upon my complaint, Avis worker became extremely angry. Finally after waiting 45 minutes, another dirty car was given to me which had stains all over the seats. Stay away from Avis.

Car battery was almost dead and it left us on foot three times in 10 days. The issue stopped only because when the support told us it was not possible to change the car/battery within the day, we decided to buy a new battery on our own! Very disappointing

Chose Avis for a 3-week Road-trip in the Pacific North-West. Almost new Chevy Malibu which I didn‘t want and no effort from the staff during pickup to look for an alternative. No receipt after drop-off, although promised. Try harder, Avis

Very efficient check in and check out. Regular rental here is faster/easier than "Gold service" at Hertz SF locations. Ordered economy, received midsize car which got 35 MPG. Recommend.
