OMG! Don't bother, stay away from this place! The dining, and I use the word loosely, is the worst. Poor service, long wait time, and the food was disgusting. We went there for dinner thinking that because it was the Gunter Hotel that the food and service would be great. There were 7 or so dinner items on the menu and once seated, we were told that they had no chicken, which left a burger, salad, or chips and salsa, on the menu! We asked for well-done burger and fries. We got a cold, poorly cooked small burger, wilted lettuce, and burnt chips, all for the bargain price of about $15.00 dollars! It was absolutely outrageous. McDonalds has better and lager burgers! The little girl who said she was the manager was so incompetent. It them 23 minutes to cook another burger for me. Never go to this place, it was horrible! None of the servers wore a mask!
Had a comfortable vibe. Drinks were well made and Used real fruit instead of all artificial flavoring. They had a board that stated there drinks although could have been a tad bit more legible. Quick attentiveness to customers. They Had live music that played popular well known songs and I loved the multiple type choices in seating which included bar seating, seating close to a t.v. and my favorite the half booth tables along the wall. They had a sign clearly posted on wall to direct people to order at bar which is nice for new customers who aren't sure. Definitely a nice place to relax and have a drink.
Hands down, best bar we visited while in San Antonio. Also, they have the best bartender in town. Just ask for Rolando and he’ll hook you up. One of the best old fashioned’s I’ve ever had. For the whiskey heads, they have you covered. They carry drams like BLANTON’S, Whistle Pig, Basil Hayden, Booker’s, and plenty of scotch that’s old enough to tell war stories. The bar has a classy and relaxed atmosphere. Sports on tv. They had live music tucked away nicely in the back corner. It’s a short 5 minute stroll from the river walk and it is worth it. Be sure to tell Rolando he is Google reviews famous.
I used to love coming to this bar, but after tonight,. As a. Couple coming into a bar that has three other guests you might think that you would get at least a smile from the three staff behind the bar. Luckily, the bartender was making a drink for the charming lady, that worked at the hotel, standing behind him, and then totally ignored us as he looked for approval from his obvious superior. I hope both she and he gets to keep their pathetic jobs. So we left sadly no drinks to be had.

This place is an old speakeasy that retains the feel of one, although now there is a sign on the door on the street entrance. (Main entrance is through Guenter hotel.) The bartenders take mixology seriously, although there seems to be some turnover of late. It's pricey, but not out of range for upscale downtown. Belly up to the bar, or siddle into one of their cozy booths. Personally, though, I like to retreat to the dimly lit upstairs to the leather couches where Casablanca places on a loop.
This was my son’s experience. Said he asked 1 bartender for a glass of water and was Totally ignored. A couple of people came up for 2 glasses of water and since the bartender got 2 glasses my son asked if he could make it 3. He then said the bartender game him a if looks could kill look, then took a glass and shattered it on the floor. What kind of person, especially an employee does something like that. Vey unprofessional. My son is not confrontational, but I felt I had to say something.
We've been visiting 414 with John and Burt (and Rolando, wherever you are) for about five years now - and I always forget that it's a hotel bar. It's the best, most under-appreciated cocktail bar downtown. The service is always good and the prices are reasonable. The food has been hit-and-miss over the years - I can't say I'd recommend it - but if we're after a cocktail downtown this is nearly always where we end up.
This place is great! The ambience is really spectacular. Our bartender was really great, I wish I knew his name but he made me a strawberry basil drink that tasted amazing. I definitely recommend coming here. There was live music and some TV's around the bar that played different things one was old school movies and the big screen was the game. It's a great place to check out when you get a chance.
Didn’t have the cocktails so can’t speak to those but beer was reasonably priced. That said, food is way overpriced. You can easily find comparable food for 10% less a few blocks away on the river walk. Not sure why they price so high. To be clear, menu prices are low but quantity is incredibly small. I had the sliders and they were basically one bite to finish.
Great bar at the historic Gunter Hotel (now Sheraton Gunter). Bar tenders know their craft. It's a great place to listen to live music. Great speakeasy vibes. Try their Kentucky Club cocktail. I loved it. And don't forget to go to the hotel lower level. They have a little free museum about the history of the place that is quite interesting.
Love this bar. Very old school feel. Fixtures through back to your granddads bar. Bartenders have always been among the best on the Riverwalk. They are able to talk with you to recommend drinks and will modify some to make them perfect for you. Wonderful bar for a group of guys drinking or a date night with the spouse. Amazing bar!!!
My friends and I were visiting San Antonio and were looking for a nice place to relax and have a drink. This place drew us in immediately with its old fashioned decorum. The bartender, Rolando, was excellent. He was extremely attentive and asked us questions to make sure he was mixing us the drink we wanted.
Do you want to feel like you are the start of an old Western film? Do you enjoy a good selection of whiskey and wine? This bar is perfect for your needs. Quiet, relaxed atmosphere where you can talk with friends and company. Bartenders are excellent and knowledgeable. Will be visiting again.
Just ask Rolando to make you his very own Cucumber Moscow Mule... holy cow - heaven in your mouth! Watch out - it'll tickle your taste buds. Or try the Aviator... the only way gin has ever tasted so delicious. What a cozy, quaint little spot with superb live music (imported from Austin).
Came in with the wife for a good whiskey drink. Met Rolando the main bartender. This dude was a magician. It was so fun just watching him make the drinks. He has definitely mastered the art of it. Good conversation as well. Highly recommend if you are looking for a good drink.
My husband and I visited our friends at Gunther Hotel who were staying there for the weekend. While we waited for them at the lobby we were drawn to the jazz music playing at Bar 414. We stayed at Bar 414 enjoying the great live jazz music
Rare find! A very concealed gem in downtown, hands down the best speakeasy style bar in San Antonio with unique handcrafted cocktails and great food. Also picked a "Bar 414" - t-shirt with an excellent design for only $20.
SUCH A CHILL SPOT. Smaller than I expected but it never got overly crowed. Feels like a super secret spot without needing the exhausted speakeasy vibe. The music was not a vibe though...I heard a Nickleback song or two?
We went here to try to find a quieter bar off the Riverwalk. They have standard drinks that were made well. I was happy they were playing casablanca on the TV in the background. They also have very comfortable couches.
Only rated down for time to get drinks...if they had one or two more bartenders of the same quality this place would easily be 5 stars. Best dirty martini my wife ever had. Old Fashioned was amazing for the price.
Amazing location, instant warm vibes and a truly unique place. Was closed but got to visit as part of sister's Grimm Ghost Tours and will return if it opens. The layout and feel was something special.
Unfortunately, the bar is closed because of COVID-19. We got to see the bar as part of Sister Grimm's Haunted Bus Tour. This a gorgeous bar and I hope to come back when it is back up and running.
By the piano area it is upscale saloon, but the behind the bar could use a refresh. Right now they have cheap lights string up. Not up to my standards for a Sheraton. But my Gun Gimlet was …
Now this is my kind of bar. Great vibe, excellent Marg and just an overall nice find. Will certainly be a regular visitor on my San Antonio trips. Got several favs here, and a strong addition.
Decided to stay at the Gunter Hotel specifically for this bar. Only open one night of our trip and we were turned away as they “closed for the night” two hours early.
Great happy hour prices! Not only great prices but also excellent drinks and food. Cool old school atmosphere with and an excellent bartender. Would be back any day
The service was slow. 2 bartenders and it took almost 10-15 min. To get 4 drinks. It was also a bit stuffy inside. They had a box fan to help the air circulate.
Been here a couple times so score is based on the bartenders. One out of three bartenders are good. Jacob is the real deal and ambiance is legit.
Nice atmosphere and live music. Could use a larger selection of gin. It would benefit from more wait staff, but I would certainly visit again.
The bartender saw us walk in but went and helped a white customer. Then he took his time to come help me (a black customer). Unprofessional.
This is a beautiful dark wood bar with a speakeasy vibe. Great vibe for a quiet drink with a client. Superb bartenders and attentive staff.
Got helped by Rolando and out experience was outstanding! Great drinks ..great bartender....will definitely be coming back to this place!
The bartenders are fun, the Blues and jazz calming, and they play old movies in the back. We liked it so much we returned the next day.
One of the nicer hotel bars I've been in. Large selection and reasonable prices.

What a great spot after a show. They had a after show happy hour so we were able to enjoy that. Great drinks and food will be back!
Cool atmosphere with excellent drinks. No prices on the menu, so expect to pay ten to fifteen dollars per. Very attentive service.
Solid cocktails that are in a more affordable range. Very cool decor and live music is the reason it’s a 5. Drinks are a 4.
It’s Thursday night and they closed 2 hours early. We picked this hotel specifically to check out this bar. Super lame.
Very nice and cozy bar, not your typical hotel bar, seems popular with locals, loved their Old Fashioned drinks.
Beautiful original space. HH drinks are very limited but tasty. Bar bites we had were subpar and unoriginal.
Went on a Friday after work. Service good, music to my liking (Blues, Jazz), and cocktails made right.
Love it, very cozy. The drinks were perfects. I would definitely come by every time I'm back in town
Love the low lit bar, playing old blues classics. Drinks are themed toward the great Robert Johnson.
Wonderful atmosphere and great local drinks. Ask for the menu. Kevin out bar tender was terrific
Johnny the Bartender was very pleasant and helpful. Great drinks and experience. Awesome place
One of the most unique bars in San Antonio. Absolutely amazing!!! Drinks are great too!!!
Super cool place. Great ambiance. Even SMELLS the part. Bartenders know their craft.
Nice bar. Great bar tenders who make nice cocktails. Was quiet when we were there.
Decor was cool but it's really a hotel bar dressed up as a high-end cocktail bar.
Enjoyed this "hotel" bar.. great bartenders, fair prices and nice atmosphere.
Great bar...stopped by before the show. Happy hour.. Great prices and food.
Very good place for a drink. Very historically bar yes I would come back.
Great little speakeasy feel, best bartenders I've had in San Antonio
Smells like grannys closet but the staff and the drinks were great!
Historic, dark and cozy. Great drinks and friendly bar tender.
Best Long Island Iced Tea I’ve ever had. Great vibe.
Great Old Fashioned, very cool presentation
