Let's start by saying that the food was tasty. Both the sweet potato and regular chips were great and super crunchy. BUT to all restaurants out there - please stop making this "deconstructed" stew with a bit of pastry on top and calling it a PIE. This is not a pie. A pie comes in a shell of crust, which requires a lot of prep and certain level of skill. I personally love to cook and do it often at home. When I go out for a Sunday dinner or lunch I usually expect something different, that maybe I couldn't make at home or that would be too timely or difficult. So I pay the 20 or 30 euros to get something nice and instead I got this - a stew with a slice of puff pastry on top. A REAL pie is timely to make with making the filling first, making the crust, then actually assembling it and baking to achieve the delicious result. And so I love getting pies in restaurants. A stew that I could throw together in a slow cooker with a slice of puff pastry on top is an absolute cop out! That being said, nice spot. Thanks.

I visited here a couple of weeks back ona day trip to Dublin. I have been meaning to leave a review since. My main memory of the place is that the staff were so friendly. In fact, I would normally have left a 3-star but the reason I am giving an extra star is precisely because of the friendly nature of the staff who served us. We were served by a dark haired Irish girl and a dark haired Argentinian man. I spoke with the Argentinian waiter about the 2021 Copa América. Anyway, the staff made my kids and I feel welcome despite only ordering a small bowl of chips, a few drinks, and a cup of coffee. There was outdoor seating with a retractable overhead covering, which was ideal for the children watching the surroundings of a new city. The chips we ordered were OK, perhaps under the heat lamp too long, and the coffee was ok as well. Nice place for a quick food pit stop.

i went there with a friend and at the beginning the waiting staff completely ignored us, we understand they were rather busy but other tables were being served while my friend and i just sat there waiting. when we finally got the attention of a waiter we ordered some coffee, and after that they would not stop asking us what else we wanted. so at first we were ignored and now they won't leave us alone, apparently they do not do things by halves. i have to say the waiting staff was always very nice and polite which is why i'm not more displeased about the weird service. at the end we decided to order the Tiger Sunset cocktail which was rather nice, so i guess the waiting's staff strategy worked...

Loved the vibes here.. Cool background music, nice setting and atmosphere. Place wasn't too crowded when we were there. Service was excellent. Service staff Veronica and Cillian, if I guess their names right was attentive and accommodating. It started to drizzle and they drew the awning to ensure we are covered. Even offered us a seating inside. Always smiling and checked on us if everything is alright. Good work guys. Food wise, we ordered some finger food eg. Their ButterMilk Chicken, some wings and a Buttermilk wrap.. and of course beverages. Tasty and a good portion. Definitely a place to have a quick bite, catch up with some friends and hangout. Recommended!

We dropped in this evening for a quick dinner. As I am a coeliac, I need a menu with gluten free options, and Bar Rua does have some. I had the loaded nachos which were quite good, and the halloumi fries, and my boyfriend had a bbq burger and standard fries. The price for this and one Pepsi was just over €41, which is fairly standard Dublin city centre prices. The pub is comfortable and the service good, so I'd recommend it. They also serve some gluten free beers which is good to see on the menu, it's nice to have the option.

Very expensive for what I ordered also felt slightly cheeted. Ordered the German beer (something Munich). Asked for a pint and they said it comes in a small glass, asked could the not put it in a pint and charge me more, they said no. I assumed it was some fancy special German glass, it was a galway Bay glass, smaller than a glass of wine.. cost 5 euro. Why are they serving German beer in a Galway bay glass. And the price of it is a disgrace, talk all they want about inport fees, all the drinks are of similar value. (It was full to the brim and tased delishous but wouldn't got back after my experience) staff did seem nice however.

I went to this place on a Saturday, around 2pm. I asked for a seafood chowder that was in the menu for 10€ … I got surprised by the size of it as it was bigger that I expected and the flavour really won me over! So creamy, tasty and with all this chunks of fish that made the whole thing very enjoyable. This chowder is served with a slice of bread and butter Rich in flavour and a very reasonable price! Highly recommend it!

Really nice place! If you’re around Dublin, call in for a beer or snack. Food is great, fresh and tasty. We had two types of chicken wings and seafood chowder, but I’m sure the other things on the menu are as tasty. Very nice choice of drinks. Great atmosphere, waiters are nice and friendly, never had to wait longer then a few min if you need anything, they are always there for you!

Good drinks and one really funny barman came to light us some candles and chat! But then he left and other staff moved us downstairs saying it wasn’t open upstairs. This makes no sense as we were told to go upstairs for seating as downstairs was full, and others were there. When we came down, the live music was deafening and when we tried to move away to the other seating area which had been open before, we were told it was also closed. Let your customers chat in peace and they might stay longer.

Good selection of craft beers and IPA's. Lovely decor inside. The bartender was happy to help me and even suggested me on some beers I might like. It was very tasty, can't remember the name of it however. I Wanted to give him a tip when I was buying the next round but he said they can not do card tips which is insane! I thought everywhere had to allow card tips for staff! Management should look into that as their staff deserve it, especially that nice young man.

  • Katherine Veras

The atmosphere is very nice! Unfortunately, I had a very bad experience there. I’m celiac and most of the staff were very badly trained in that. 2 of them even knew they had gluten free pint in the menu. One lady got angry when I asked her for more information about the GF pint. Actually, she did not even look at me. Only one guy from the staff was kind with my questions.

Cool pub/restaurant with two stories and several seating areas, including outdoor patio. Typical pub faire and very good seafood chowder. We stopped in for a quick bite, wife got chowder and I got the fried chicken. The fried chicken was essentially boneless chicken fingers/goujons and were good, but a bit pricey for what it was. Staff was nice and quick.

Food was very slow to arrive, and when it did, it was stone cold. Informed staff, and was then replaced with a new fresh dish, which again was cold. Such as shame as the wings were tasty otherwise. Beer was nice with good selection, but glasses were also dirty. Staff are friendly but criminally understaffed also.

Love this bar but unfortunately, they missed two items from our food order and the service was terrible. Went in to order a drink from the bar and was near scolded by the server that they would come to take our order. Waited 15 minutes with no sight of a server. Disappointing, I'm sad to say. Hopefully not like this all the time.

We popped in for a pint during the international rugby. This is a Galway Bay Brewery pub (see also Against the Grain). It’s a bit more modern than Against the Grain, with a range of different spaces. Friday night had live music and a party feel upstairs. Great range of beers. We didn’t eat but it had a fun vibe and will visit again.

Lovely bar, I loved all the pictures inside. Had food, which was tasty and a few drinks. All the staff were very nice and friendly especially the guy with the blue hair. I could hear him interact with other customers as well and he was so genuine and good fun. Also the blonde girl with glasses was lovely too

We enjoyed the atmosphere and the tea.Super cool photos on the 2 nd floor!

Price and size of drinks are not clear at all. In the end when you get your drink it's a glass of beer for the price of a pint. Tried to stick to a safe pint of Guinness but it was 6,50€ anyways.... The staff are very slow to serve and won't care about queues, they'll just serve whoever shouts more. Won't be rushing back.

This place gives you the least value for your money. Prices are very high for what they offer. Service is not good either. Sitting is uncomfortable. Tables are small. Avoid this place. They need ro resolve many issues and adjust their prices. There are better places that serve the same qualitu food for much less.

First time there,it was in Friday at lunchtime. On three foods asked two were not available. The portion of the chicken strips for kids are poor, only 2 strips. The fishs and chips didn't have any tasty. I give 3 stars only because the stew ane the chicken burger were good.

Can't fault the atmosphere or service but some food is quite expensive. I got the Large buttermilk fried chicken for €21 which was 3 chicken tenders! I questioned this and it was taken back and a 4th was added. They were fine tasting but at €5 a tender its way overpriced.

Bar Rua has an attractive 'snug' interior, as in it's not a big open plan layout, over a couple of floors. Friendly staff, attentive who offer table service. Nice food, mid priced (not expensive but not budget either). Good craft beers. Quirky wall decorations-have fun naming all the red haired stars adorning the interior. Nice. Better than nice.

Such a lovely place! Had lunch just once there but will go back for sure! Ordered chicked stuffed with feta cheese and dried tomatoes - so tasty! Lovely decorated, upstairs is a nice view. They also have a few cozy boots. Staff friendly. Was not very busy on a sunny Saturday at lunch time. Not expensive. Would definately recommend it.

Great vibe, fast food service, the only issue is the smoking area is reaching the none smoking area so there is no actual separation, either do a proper section to each area or none at all. Couldn't enjoy the evening fully due to the smoking scent, the beef stew was just fantastic, very recommended if you are there give it a shot.

Good bar & ok food I didnt like to see the manager pressuring table staff to rush an American tourist couple off their table as soon as their plates were empty but before they had even finished their drinks. I think that is bad manners and bad for the image of Dublin. More

  • Gerry O'Mahony

A good experience in Dublin, eating inside with vaccination passport meant plenty of space, though we still got the noisiest table in the pub next to us. Reasonably priced food, decent drinks, including a good (albeit a tad sweet) Espresso Martini made for a good night out

  • Ignacio Cabeza

Third time I go, and never disappoints. Chicken burger is outstanding, and their IPA as well. They have one Argentinian guy working who is awesome, very responding and charismatic. We sat outside but their heaters works really good. Definitely going back more times.
