I have used Thos. R. Birnie & Sons Plumbing's services in the past and was thoroughly impressed with their professionalism, punctuality, and expertise. Unfortunately, my recent experience with them has left me utterly dissatisfied and frustrated. It seems like the company's commitment to quality service has taken a nosedive. After having previously received exceptional service, I decided to book an appointment with Thos. R. Birnie & Sons Plumbing again on August 22nd. I selected the morning slot for August 25th, a 3-hour window during which I expected to receive a call 35-40 minutes before the technician's arrival. This had been the norm in my previous interactions with the company. However, this time around, the company failed spectacularly to meet even the basic expectations. As the morning of August 25th progressed without any communication from them , I began to grow concerned. By 11:45 AM, I decided to take the initiative and call them myself. The response I received was disheartening: I was informed that a technician had indeed been assigned but was given no reassurance about their arrival time. Additionally, I was asked if I could be available in the afternoon, implying that my prior commitment was of little significance. After patiently waiting for an update throughout the day, I eventually received a call at 3:45 PM. However, I had missed it due to being occupied elsewhere. I promptly returned the call, only to be informed that all technicians were engaged on other sites and that no one would be able to attend to my appointment that day. The suggestion was made for a rescheduled appointment the following day, along with a promise of a $35 discount coupon. While I appreciated the gesture, it did little to alleviate the inconvenience and frustration I was already experiencing. With a glimmer of hope, I agreed to the rescheduled appointment for the morning slot on the next day, as proposed. However, history seemed to repeat itself as I once again found myself waiting in vain for a call or the technician's arrival by 1:00 PM. The call did come, but at 3:15 PM, inquiring if I was still available and willing to proceed with the job. At this point, it felt like the company was doing me a favor by even considering my request. This was not a favor; it was a service that I was prepared to pay for, and the company's attitude towards it was completely out of line. I find this decline in service standards and communication utterly unprofessional. It is disappointing to see a company that I once held in high regard treat customer time and commitments with such disregard. This experience has compelled me to share my dissatisfaction, in the hope that someone within the company reads this and realizes the importance of valuing and respecting customers' time. Thos. R. Birnie & Sons Plumbing's recent performance is a far cry from the exceptional service they used to provide. This experience has underscored their apparent lack of consideration for customers' time and needs. It is my sincere hope that this feedback serves as a wake-up call and prompts a serious reevaluation of their customer service practices.

**Edited November 16, 2021*** Because I have previously provided a review it is not allowing me to post a new review. However, I can edit my previous review to comment on the amazing service we received from Pavel today. We were having three new bathroom faucets installed, a tub and shower faucet set installed and a bath tub waste and overflow replaced. From the moment he arrived we were impressed with Pavel's professionalism. He reviewed what we need to be done, then provided us a detailed "Summary of Findings" and and estimate. This doesn't happen at all places, but the estimate is what you pay. Regardless if it takes longer than anticipated to complete. He thought it would take 6 hours but he ran into some unforeseen issues. He was here until almost 7pm this evening. He didn't want to leave until everything was perfect! We've always had exemplary service from T.R. Birnie & Sons ~ from all the technicians that have provided service. However, if we need more work done, we'll check first to see if Pavel is available. I'm attaching the pretty pictures, but also some of the behind the scenes work that took place. ( I tried to upload pics but I don't think it worked. Trust me the pretty is pretty, but sometimes it's the things that you can't see that are most important. Thank you again Pavel. ***This is the start of the older review***We have a plumbing contract with a different company. We called them yesterday. I've contacted them three times and not only have we not received service, I am still awaiting a call back that I was supposed to get at about noon today. This is the second time we've required their services and they have not responded. So, as we did last time, we called T.R. Birnie & Sons and have received exemplary service. Daniel was professional, courteous, explained everything, identified and fixed the problem promptly. The service the last time we used them was amazing as well. We'll be cancelling our contract with that other company (as we should have done last time they disappointed us) and will be using Thos. R. Birnie & Sons exclusively in the future. Thank you again Daniel for being so pleasant, professional and helpful.

I have had Birnie & Sons Ltd twice to my house in the last 10 years. The first time was an emergency when our sewer collapsed under our house. They were amazing with us in this extremely stressful situation. They assured us everything will be alright and they’d have us all fixed up and back to normal as soon as possible. Their employees are very professional and extremely accommodating. They are polite and are quick to answer any questions you may have. We just had them back to change our full sewer pipe from clay to plastic , as well as our water line & main from lead to copper. It was a huge job that could have been extremely messy but everything was contained so well. They put plywood down to protect areas of property from all of the dirt & rock. We live close to the escarpment where there is mostly rock under us and they worked hard to break through it to make sure this job was completed. It wasn’t easy and we are so very thankful to Birnie’s as all of the other companies never even phoned us back due to where we live. The shale causes so many problems and is known for breaking equipment so most companies do not want to do any sort of digging around here. Birnie’s employees are extremely hard workers. We don’t see a lot of that these days unfortunately. I highly recommend Birnie’s for any and all of your plumbing needs. They are friendly and have reliable hardworking employees that have compassion in an emergency situation and a ton of knowledge about all that needs to be done. Because we have had them to our home twice for huge jobs .. we know how amazing they are. Don’t waste your time calling another company. If you need a plumber .. Birnie’s is the best.

The nature of our plumbing repairs were urgent as we had water slowly rising from our shower drain in the basement with the potential for severe damage looming. This was the only company who acknowledged the urgency of our call for service and fit us in their busy schedule to have someone out to our home within hours. We had the pleasure of dealing with Mark who was not only extremely personable but took the time to explain everything that was wrong, what needed repair and how the repairs were going to look like. Several options were offered to us with absolutely no pressure of having any of their services used. We obviously went ahead with one of their quotes given the urgent nature of the issue, however we felt confident that the quote was fair and that the work was going to be done right! Alas, the day of the repair. Mark was scheduled to arrive first thing in the morning and he did… RIGHT ON TIME! Which i hate to say but is not a practice commonly seen anymore. Mark again was friendly, knowledgeable and informative explaining his actions of the day ahead. When Mark completed the repairs, he went through everything again to make sure we understood what transpired. I can’t thank Mark enough for making this process so smooth and for Thos R. Birnie & Sons Ltd for accommodating us so urgently. Highly recommended!!!

It took us 11 1/2 months to find a plumber to come to our place to assess the cause of our stenchy drains. Birnie Plumbing is the ONLY one who responded AND was willing to travel to Thorold. From start to finish we were blown away by this company. Somebody was there to take our call. They followed up when they said they would. They showed up when they said they would. They gave us options with different price points to help us with our issues. Both crews allowed us to see, via their cameras, what was going on so there was no doubt about their professional determinations. Eric and Rick who spent the most time here jackhammering into our basement floor and inhaling dust and stench and sewer flies were 2 of the most courteous, kind, knowledgeable and amazing guys. They stayed to finish the job. They cleaned up after themselves. They asked if they could use our outside hose instead of just helping themselves. AND they solved the problem! No more stench. No more sewer flies! The ONLY reason I gave 4 stars is because I wish those young men wore some sort of respiratory protection against the horrible dust they were inhaling. Otherwise, we are blown away by our experience with this company and their crews. We were recommend them to anyone without hesitation. And we are grateful for their skill. Thank you.

We needed a couple small pipes removed and capped from where a sink/dishwasher used to be so we could install cabinets. This was my first foray into plumbing, but looking back it's a job that I could have done myself with minimal experience and some cheap materials at Canadian Tire. Their technician showed up quite late and not in a good mood. Not knowing what the job entailed, seeing some decent reviews, and needing the job done that day as other work would be held up if it wasn't, I agreed to their rate. Turns out about 30 minutes of work costs $598.33, before tax and after the "member's discount", which I unfortunately signed up for. I did file a complaint and after some back and forth they eventually agreed to refund $220.35, but no more. Thank you at least for that. Part of this was the membership fee. I appreciate that bit of a refund, despite the cost still being ridiculously high even after that. However, despite asking several times I have not yet received an itemized receipt (and was informed that they don't provide those), which is required by the Consumer Protection Act. We have since hired other plumbers who have been fair, reasonable, much more professional, and charge far less (even after the refund) for more much more complicated jobs. Would definitely not recommend.

I had a cracked pipe connection that was leaking water into my basement. After a week of looking for it I finally found where the leak was coming from. It was in the worse area for anyone to work in and I thought I was going to have to have part of my basement dug up to get to it. At 8.00 am the next morning I called Birnie and Sons to get help. I was concerned I was going to have to wait a few days for someone out to look at it. At 10.47am that morning I got a call from the Birnie office to let me know that a service representative was on his way and would uld be at my door in about 30 minutes. At 11.46am he was at my door. I then had the pleasure to meet Tim who inspected my problem and then explained how he proposed to repair it without having to break up the concrete. Tim took the time to discuss every step of the repair and assured me that the leak would be fixed. When the job was completed he carefully tested all the joints for any leakage or problems. When he was satisfied that everything was OK was he then did a great clean up job. If you have a water problem, I can highly recommend Tim and Birnie and Sons to look after you. Thank you Tim.

Took a little while for plumber to arrive and get started...about an hour after supposed arrival time (maybe this was miscommunication on the scheduler's part, not sure, had to call to see if someone was coming) Plumber seemed experienced and was friendly enough and took his time to diagnose the issue. I told him all the issues that "might" be causing the problem and basically he listened and didn't offer any other real explanations for the back up other than maybe roots, which I assured him there would be none. After all said and done and over $500 for about really an hour's work it was a mild blockage that was cleared with a snake in the first 20 feet or so in a matter of minutes. So I guess he completed the task of drain cleaning (at almost 2x cost of previous snake to the road and a much more comprehensive analysis from a competitor). Frankly I expected a little better pricing considering I paid for the "Preferred customer" insurance a couple of years ago...We asked them to come as we thought we might be able to get same day service as well. It was the next day unsure if we could run any water or toilets for almost a day.

Unbelievable ethics and very unfortunate company that stands behind their 100yrs in business. Have reached out to management yet no response. Had a plumber come out to fix fridge water line and the receptionist asked if I wanted them to take a look at anything else while the “certified plumber” is out there. Sure have him to take a look at the loose kitchen facet I say. Plumber arrives takes a look and says no issue can have both fixed and presents me a “all in” total for both jobs. I agree to have them repaired. Takes the plumber less than 2 minutes to give up on the faucet saying he can’t tighten the loose faucet. Has the audacity to then charge me the full amount he quoted stating”well you wasted my time so you will have to pay” Asked to see a breakdown on the price for both jobs, he refused. This is not normal and Un ethical with zero integrity to this company. I will wait to hear back from their management company for a resolution

Terrible company - be warned, take your business elsewhere. Our neighbour's sewer line was clogged and unfortunately it passes under our driveway. Our neighbour contracted Birnie to replace the line. We discussed the work with Birnie and they assured us that the excavation would be properly backfilled and compacted so that there would not be excess settlement. On the day after they left the ground sunk 6 inches. Birnie topped it up with some gravel and now it has sunk a further 4 to 5 inches. The ground is soft and spongy and this area of the driveway is un-usable. Birnie is refusing to come back and fix the problem that they created saying that they have completed their work. We had our own sewer problem fixed in our drive about 5 years ago and the contractor paved it within 2 weeks of the repair and it has not sunk at all. Good contractors do good work - this is not one of them.

We are the only ones on our block to have Bernie & sons install a backwater valve. We are the only ones on our block to have Birnie & Sons install a liner in our sewer pipe from house to street. That was six years ago. We are the only ones on our block that have had nothing but trouble from our sewer since they did the work. Once again last week more trouble with backup. The liner suppose to have 25 year warranty. Don’t believe it they find a loophole. Now they want to charge me another close to $7000.00 to correct the work they didn’t do right originally. We are seniors on a fixed income. They don’t care. It’s all money. I just paid them another $450.00 three days ago. I called to complain to manager. The woman who answered wouldn’t let me talk to a manager. I had to leave a message and he would call me back. Still waiting for their call. It’s so sad

So relieved my DIY bathroom reno wasn't ruined by my botched shower instal. Charlie saved my tile wall, which I was convinced would have to be breeched, by creating space on the other side to access the faulty connections. It wasn't easy to work in that area, but he outlined a plan and executed it, so now I have full confidence the valve is connected securely, and the faucet and shower function perfectly. Charlie kept me informed of the steps and options along the way. As a bonus he showed me why the vanity sink was draining so slowly and how to remedy it. The one year labour warranty gives extra peace of mind, but I am very impressed with the workmanship and how good the new copper looks. Well worth calling in a pro to make it right. It wasn't an emergency, but I got a prompt reply and next day service on this job. Very highly recommended.

Very helpful people, great team. Birnie Plumbing saved us over 20 thousand dollars by tracking down the root of the problem and repairing the section of sewer line that had an issue, while others wanted to redo the entire line. Their team did excellent work, dug carefully around gas, water and power lines to replace a section of the sewer line. They took care of all the permits, locates and had the city inspection done. ll was done by 4 in the afternoon, leaving the area as it was before. Great work. The next day they called us with their findings and discussion they had with the inspector about the sewer line under the road. That might still have issues. Birnie send their findings over to public works and told us to follow up with them to prevent further issues in the future. Which we will, thank you for the detailed report.

Just a heads up that an appointment with them is not really an appointment. I called and was offered a same day appointment, which seemed great. Then later on they phoned that they needed to reschedule for the next day; I was offered a choice of appointment times so chose an afternoon slot. No one came or called, I followed up by phone and they said they were fully booked for that afternoon and wouldn't be coming unless I wanted to try going on a waitlist? I explained that I had an appointment booked, but they said there were other more important jobs. They also implied that I should have understood this since I was taking my chances booking an afternoon appt. I found this all a little strange. I would have appreciated having this explained at the time of booking.

I had leak in my mechanical room that resulted in very little sleep with much anxiety. I called early the next morning, and explained the problem. The friendly dispatch person looked up my account, assigned the fellow that I had used before, and within a few hours he arrived at my door. He was able to find the cause, stop the leak, and repair other plumbing that I had been concerned about in an efficient, professional manner. Before the repairs were started, he gave me a detailed list and estimate of the costs involved, with a discount as a previous customer. Throughout the next few hours, I was informed about the progress every step of the way…amazing high quality, customer service. Thanks again, Bernie and sons, and especially Charlie for coming to the rescue!

I highly recommend Birnie Plumbing and Drains of Hamilton. A perfect 10/10 in my opinion. Our main drain was backing up and flooding our basement with sewage. We couldn't use the water at all. It was terrible! Today a plumber from Birnie Plumbing and Drains came to help us. He was very polite, professional, and knowledgeable. He answered all of my questions and made me feel at ease with the situation. He presented multiple solutions for me to pick from covering most price ranges and had the work done quickly and efficiently. At the end, I was shown a video confirming my main drain was clear. I was even sent the video via email. I am so impressed with the service that I received that I would gladly use them again. Thank you so much.

A very good experience indeed, this being a pleasant surprise after our past encounters with some other contractors: on time, extremely thorough, and the best clean up after a messy job (we had a sewer back-up issue, so needed the sewage lines cleared and flushed) I've experienced in a very long while. Quick reaction, no fee for coming out or diagnosing the problem, clear lump-sum upfront pricing, credit cards accepted, work done the same day, all explanations given, and we felt welcome to watch the process every step of the way (it took a few hours so we did not, or not all of it). Also received all the photographs and videos of the lines taken (there's some watching material for those long winter evenings). Very much recommended!

Great service. The plumber explained everything really well, helped to save us some money, and did the needed repairs immediately. The service is not cheap, but for plumbing and electricity “do it yourself” just does not cut it for me, as it often causes greater damage along the way. I appreciated that the customer service was friendly, knowledgeable, prompt and super-well organized. These days, it’s not easy to find reliable contractors who actually call you back and offer prompt service - so I can only wholeheartedly recommend this plumbing company! Also, the company gives free quotes; this is a great plus as I have also called another company that wanted to charge me 99 CAD just for looking at the problem and give a quote.

I had Thomas r Birnie come in to power clean my weeping tile through my sump pump. They quoted me a price of almost 2000 dollars. I agreed. They shoes up with two men and spent maybe two hours and said they could get around the corner with there washer. I think they could see I wasn’t very happy. They said they would call their manager for suggestions. They came back in , spent another hour and said they got around the corner but couldn’t go past 25 foot mark and left. With no solution I brought in an excavator and dug up weeping tile. The tile is plugged solid with clay silt ,which shows me they didn’t have success getting around the corner. Why lie to me ? Not very happy and would never recommend this company.

Colin and Robert were super friendly and professional! They fixed our issue and we were super happy! Second time using this company and they definitely have my continued business! Today Tim came to fix a plumbing leak! This is the third time I have used this company and I have also used their sister company as well. Tim was punctual and super knowledgable about the issue that I had. He was extremely friendly, happy, informative and figured out the problem right away. He explained it to me and then gave me my options! He fixed it the same day and did a fantastic job! He is a super nice person and works very hard! He left his work space clean and his communication was great! I’m very happy!

Had a house job done in Niagara a few years back. Charged me an arm and a leg. Asked 3 times the price of normal retail prices for simple kitchen taps etc. Work did not pass inspection two times. Major lack of communication between their staff: they behaved like monkeys jumping around destroying stuff and putting in wrong pipes in wrong places. Some staff don't seem to even know the code. Still discovering major errors to this day: no quality control whatsoever. Recently discovered a vent pipe wasn't even glued together properly so the smell was coming into the rooms. I'm not a plumber and I have to redo the whole thing myself. Disappointing service. I would never recommend.

We required new faucets for our washer since the old hoses were corroded on. We went over the work to be done and we’re given an estimate for the service that was provided The estimate was very fair and reasonable Charlie the installer replaced the faucets and secured the washer drain hose to the laundry tub so it would not fly out when the washer drains. He installed a board against the outside wall to keep the copper pipes from touching the cold wall. He also hooked up the dryer for us. The service was very fast and professional and Charlie was friendly and easy to deal with. I would certainly recommend Bernie and Sons to anyone who needed plumbing repairs. Rick Wren

Thos. Birnie & Sons were the right buisness for our project. From our first phone call to our very thorough and informative plumber on site, Charlie, we are impressed! He explained our options and made it very comfortable to ask any questions before going forward. I never felt something was being done without explanation or hidden costs, all things concerned it was very straightforward. Charlie even checked both overflow drain, sink and faucets a few times before the day was complete. Everything was clean and finished as if He was working on his own families home. You will not be disappointed with this company, top notch!

This was our first experience with "Birnie Plumbing" and we would certainly recommend them to anyone who is looking for a company that is polite, on time, extremely helpful, knowledgeable, professional and attentive to our situation. From our first encounter with the front line person who answered our call for help.....she was polite and very helpful.....to Paul, the technician, who came the next morning and did an amazing job at clearing our problem (and explaining it fully as to the cause, etc...) we were beyond impressed. "Thank you" doesn't begin to express our gratitude but it is the only words we have.

Work completed April 20,2023 Mike was our plumber and couldn't be more responsive to questions, very professional and a real gentleman. We had previous work installed that did not reflect a professional job. Mike relocated piping that reflected our needs for future installation of a bathroom and repositioned our piping over our laundry tubs that included a new tap and shutoff valves. Mike's work was excellent. His company couldn't have had a better representative for their company hence this review. I would suggest asking for Mike if you need plumbing work now or in the future. Tyler was great! He was able to clear a blockage in our sewer lateral and fix the stuck backflow valve. I was able to take a shower and get to my sister’s birthday party on time! We very much appreciate that they were able to get Tyler out to our house first thing on a Saturday morning when I called late Friday afternoon. They also offered a number of different options at different price points for us to choose from. We have another technician scheduled to come out to give us an estimate for a sleeve to permanently fix the problem with the old clay pipes. We definitely recommend Birnie & Sons!

Charlie showed up on time and was very professional and affable. He assessed what was needed to be done and explained everything to me. He installed a replacement dishwasher and corrected plumbing issues that was previously incorrectly done to have proper drainage for the dishwasher and the sink. He also resolved the problem of “smell” in the house by putting p-traps that were missing. Charlie cleaned up as he went along and was very respectful of my place and his work ethic showed conspicuously in how he did his work, with professionalism, knowledge and skill. Thank you!!!

Unfortunately, the tech was delayed by traffic and I was only informed of this when I called. Then there were issues with the generator and the tech was not able to complete the service contracted. However, tech did offer to adjust the tiers of service based on the inability to complete or to return the next work day to finish. This was appreciated (and honoured by the company). The tech was friendly and knowledgeable. My main concern was the mess left to clean up. Tracking sewer water through the halls and common areas from toilet to exterior door was less than desirable.

Charlie was well mannered and pleasant to talk to. He provided detailed options to clean and unplug the kitchen drain. He laid a towel to catch water under the sink and a large floor mat to keep tools and debris off of the hardwood floor. He answered all my questions thoroughly as he worked After removing cleaning tool from drain (28') he showed evidence of material which had plugged the drain. Filled sink with water and flushed through drain with ease. Used orange degreaser with the last flush to remove grease residue from piping. All in all great service and experience.

We had a bathtub removed from our upstairs bathroom. Our technician did an excellent job. He walked us through everything that had to be done, gave us options and answered all our questions. No pressure sales which was nice. The job was done quickly, professionally and no mess was left behind. Due to emergency jobs our reno quote was pushed back, understandably. The office was always in communication and kept us up to date. Being a 20 year home owner we have had various experiences with plumbing services. This was by far the best. I will definitely use them again.

We contacted Mr. Rooter for some plumbing issues and once they found that there was an issue with the sewer, Robert from Thos. R. Birdie and Sons came out and located the issue. They were able to schedule a crew to come and fix the broken sewer 2 days later. Rick and his crew were very professional and respectful of our home. They fixed our sewer issue in one day and was very helpful and answered all of the questions we had. I can’t recommend this company enough for all of their hard work. We will be contacting them again if we need any further work done.

Called early on a Friday morning expecting to not get service but to my surprise I was told that they would be able to help me with my completely clogged drain that day. A couple of hours later Mike the plumber came inspected the job and gave me a quote with options on how I wanted to proceed, also I was given the opportunity to decline service at no cost at all.. I choose the option that suited me and Mike started the work and a short while later sink was running freely and my home was clean and neat. Thanks everyone at Bernie Plumbing.

The service provided was above and beyond expectations. When calling for service, I was promptly talking to a seasoned professional who knew exactly what would be needed. They arrived ontime and worked quickly to complete the job with a very high quality of work. The staff was friendly and courteous. They did an excellent job of cleaning up after themselves leave the work site cleaner then before they arrived. A great experience, will always be using Birnie Plumbing for all my needs. Highly recommended to everyone.

A great experience with this company. They responded immediately to my inquiry, showed up on time and completed the work satisfactorily. Both repair men were respectful of our house and cleaned up everything after the jobs. Appreciated them giving me a quote on arrival and inspection of the work to be done and the fact that there would be no fees if we rejected the quote. They also took the time to explain a couple of other plumbing inquiries about our house without any hesitation. I highly recommend them.

Filled out on line questionnaire, They called same day and set appt for quote. Arrived on time. Diagnosed problem, Our professional Rooter was Lucas Lucas was very professional, knowledgeable and personable Explained price packages and what he would be doing. Completed job and cleaned up as if he where never there. Payment was easy at agreed upon price. All in all we where completely satisfied in choosing Birnie and Sons. If there is a drain problem in the future we will ask for Lucas specifically.

My mother-in-law needed help, and Tim came the next morning. She thought that he was the best service person ever to complete work at her home of 66 years. There were serious problems revealed while clearing her sink, which took extra time to fix. Tim did everything needed to finish the dirty job, explaining each new required step, and did not charge extra. Thank you, Tim, for solving a serious plumbing problem for a 91 year old woman. We’ll ask for you again if we have any more plumbing troubles!

Just had a technician from Bernie come out to look at some toilet/sewer issues we were concerned about. We had a technician named Harrison and this guy was GREAT! Very friendly, profession, knowledgeable and took great care in protecting his working surroundings. We were very pleased with the price of the job (which he had quoted for us ahead) and the office was nice to deal with also. Be sure and call this company with any sewer issues you are having . I'm sure you won't be disappointed.

Lucas yesterday serviced our downstairs toilet . he was very efficient professional and friendly . Job was tentatively scheduled three days away . Ended up coming the same day . I actually called Mr. Rooter , Birnie was explained as a sister company . This is the third time calling Rooter . Each time excellent service . Had another visit from Lucas today May 03/22 . After in depth discussion . Decision is made to go warranty ! Debatable ! Who would say no . Great kid to have here again .

We had the line break from the floor to the toilet and the toilet shut off was seized open so we tried to shut it off at the main water line but that was also seized open leaving a huge mess. Charlie came explained options and price. We are in St. Cath and they came from Hamilton just to give us a quote. He was very professional and easy to understand. When he came to do the work it was done well and showed us what was done as well made sure everything was cleaned up. Great job!

The technicians were extremely professional. From wearing masks and shoe covers to explaining each step of the process they were thorough. Cleaned the drain clog, then tested everything out, then showed me a camera view of the pipes all the way to the street (over 50 feet away). When they finished everything was cleaned up and I felt satisfied in every step of the way. You always want things as cheap as possible however when they left I felt I got fair value for what I had paid.

Day 1. Paul was very clear explaining the repair. Went over my options with me. Facilitated the repair, and left the site clean. Day 2,3,4,5. Unfortunately it looks like I responded too soon. The problem is now worse than before he touched it. I needed someone to come back and complete the job. I left messages every day for 4 days and got zero response. I had to get another company in to do the work. I will be disputing the credit card payment. I do not recommend this company.

Thos R Birnie & Sons plumbing company is awesome. They came in, looked over the issues we had, then brought to our attention other issues we did not know about, gave me a quote, and did all the work in under 4 hours. This included climbing through a hole in the wall to shut off the water main, providing a new toilet install, new hot and cold water shutoff vales, fixing drains that were previously installed incorrectly. Friendly, courteous and honest. I highly recommend them

February 18, 2022 Today we had our sub pump repaired after two flooding in our basement. First of all Janine was amazing she called first thing in the morning to see how we made out during the night with the flood and bailing out the waters. Janine sent over Charlie and was totally awesome he worked on the pump gave us some insight and he took the time to do a great job. Both Janine and Charlie were very friendly l would definitely recommend and use Birnie & Son Ltd again.

5 stars is not enough for the professionalism I get from BERNIE, From the receptionist to the repair techs. They fit me in and got the job done, Special kudos out to John who spent the whole day getting the problem solved, thanks to Pavel who helped get the ball rolling. I was very pleased with the prompt response, efficient service and the extra help that Pavel provided on behalf if this company. As a new homeowner I would recommend and definitely use their services again. Hopefully not but if we need to these are the people you want in your home. I will also stress that Pavel was very thorough and didn't leave until he checked his work multiple times and only then was he comfortable knowing it was fixed. Very pleased and thankful.

Just moved into my new house and the bathroom sink was clogged. So I tried clearing it by pouring in Drano then used a sink snake but could not get it cleared. That's when I called in 5Stinky and they sent Robert and his assistant. Thorough professionals and gentlemen too. They cleared the debris from the pipe in no time and now the sink is draining without any problem. I would definitely recommend them without blinking an eye for drain cleaning.

I recently called for a blockage in my main sewer line. They were quick to respond and very accommodating in terms of setting up a service time. The service tech was knowledgeable and quick to both find and rectify the issue, all while taking time to explain both the cause and what can be done to prevent future issues. The cleanup afterwards was done quickly and efficiently. Overall completely satisfied with the service received and the cost.

I made an appt on a monday for the next wed at 9 am. On Tursday Cody called and changed the appt to Thursday as “ our bigger clients needed us”. On Thursday i git another call to change the appt again as my leaking shower was not important to them right now. As they had more important issues. I cancelled as it was apparent that my issue would never be enough for them. Dont waste your time and days waiting for them as they will not come.

Tyler arrived promptly to investigate a potential sewer back up in my basement. He was able to assess and flush the line to ensure no blockage, and that sewer backup was not an immediate threat. Very friendly and did a great job! Gave me additional information regarding old cast-iron pipes and HVAC condensate corrosion, and suggested I install a pH filter neutralizer for the corrosive condensate. Will definitely use their service again!

Fantastic service! Tim came out to review a year old quote to validate the work and review the pricing. I needed to replace my main stack. He was able to review the options available and what made sense in the long run. I decided with an option and he was able to complete the job same day. Everything was top notch about the service. Communication; timeliness; punctuality; quality of work; professionalism was all on point. Only complaint, and it is a significant one, is that their pricing is waaaay too high. $1400 to repair and replace (1) outside faucet and to replace a shut-off valve on a second faucet (and that includes their member discount). I would happily use this company again, but I will get a quote first.

We had a pipe from the bath tub that corroded and thus we were unable to use the tub. Only having one bathroom, this was an issue. The Service tech “Charlie” explained the issue, giving 2 options/solutions and worked to correct the problem during this service call! Awesome! Very pleased and thankful with this service. I booked Birnie and Sons to fix a slow drain in my kitchen. I was given a four hour time frame and they didn't show up. I got a phone call at the end of the time frame without an apology, stating that the staff was at capacity. I rebooked for today and the same thing happened. Two days wasted, waiting. I can't in good faith book a third time and expect that they'll show up as promised. An unfortunate couple of experiences.

They were able to send someone the same day even though they were busy to come and unclog a drain. I like that there is no fee for them to come and give an estimate and the work is outside for the job and not by the hour. The man informed us if all options and pricing options before we agreed to any work being done. He also explained everything during the fixing and after so we know everything that was fine and completed.

The service tech (Mike) was pleasant, respectful, clean and attentive. He thoroughly explained each of the processes he was doing and what the net result would be. We found the price/value equation to be acceptable. A bit of difficulty getting this scheduled due to the company being quite busy and they had to reschedule once. Beyond that it was a very positive experience and we will use their services again when needed.

The professionalism and care that the group of men showed was phenomenal. They made a costly plumbing repair less painful by explaining the process and showing me the steps necessary. They kept things tidy and cleaned up after themselves each day. They even ensured the safety of others by putting up a safety fence for over night. Definitely recommend this company for any large or small plumbing need you may encounter.

An excellent experience. No one likes to see a plumber because it's going to be expensive. The Birnie plumber was friendly, knowledgeable and responsive. Before doing any work he discussed the different options to fix the problem, a serious clog in the toilet and leaky faucets, the most cost effective ways to do the work, and answered any questions I had. When he fixed the problems, he left the bathroom spotless.

The service I received from Charlie was exceptional. He went above and beyond the call of duty and he thoroughly explained everything pertaining to the job. Kitchen sink was completely blocked at my parents’ house and I only realized this Friday evening. I called up Birnie and they had Robert come out Saturday morning and got the problem fixed. Robert was excellent in his communication and timeliness, and my elderly parents really appreciated his help. I definitely recommend Birnie and will use them again for any plumbing issues in the future.

A good experience. A quote was given before the work was performed and all of the work was explained. As the work was being done an explanation of what was being done was given as well. The project was completed in a timely manner, checked and then the area where the work was done was cleaned up. All of the old parts were taken away. The staff was professional and respected the property.

Had a blockage in the kitchen pipes leading to the laundry sink in the basement. Called for just an assessment but Lucas was very thorough and knowledgeable so he was able to fix our drainage issue right away. He explained the problem, proposed two solutions, and even advised on preventative measures. All while being super friendly and honest!  Would definitely recommend their services.

Would 100% recommend Birnie. I had a plumbing issue with a rental unit while I was out of the country. I found Burnie online through a Google search. The team was responsive (both email and calls), very kind and quickly helped to fix the issue. They made it easy for me. While I hope I don’t have future plumbing issues, if I do, I’m giving these guys a call right away. 10/10.

This place will try to fleece you. Quoted $560 to replace two taps on a leaking washer connection. Highway robbery. It's an hour of work and a $25 piece. Absoluteley criminal. The original quote was $832 but they were "nice" and lowered it to $560. What a joke. Edit: went with a different company. Ended up paying $287. $287 is a far cry from $832. This company will rob you.

Very friendly but they charged me $700+ just to come and QUOTE a job, no work was actually done. Then the quote was for an additional $3500...I found another company that quoted it and fixed it for $500. Totally just ripping people off, unfortunately they will never get a 2nd job from most people if this is how they operate a business. Look elsewhere, trust me on that.

While the two young men were definitely soft spoken and humble, the price I was quoted by the company was outrageous for a dishwasher installation. $1500. Would have saved myself the time if I was told this in advance, but that info is never provided on the phone call. Was expecting a lot more from this company based on the reviews, this has backfired pretty badly.

Chad Dimmer was extremely helpful and professional. He came to fix a leak in our basement but it turned out to be even worse. However Chad patiently explained what was wrong and gave a thorough detail of the work that’s as to be done before he started. He promptly finished all the work in 2 hours. The moment I opened up my door, the technician was trying to sell me some solution that works as a degreaser. He spent 10 minutes looking at the job and writing up a quote. They fixed a leaky pipe and did a clean up of our sewer which had been clogged prior to our purchase of the house, haven’t had any issues since. The plumber was nice and did show me the price before starting. He arrived with the correct equipment (a 1 1/2@ snake and a drain camera). The job was completed within an hour. My only problem was that it cost me $550 to clear the drain. I'm sure other plumbers are cheaper so I won't be using this company again.
