I dropped in for breakfast and a coffee as I was in the area for work. It is a cafe and art gallery owned by Aboriginal artist Robert Henderson and his wife. The chef introduced himself as Dean and proceeded to make an excellent coffee and the best smashed avo on toast with poached eggs that I've ever had. It was seasoned beautifully with homemade dukka and the eggs were cooked perfectly. I came back again the next day and the food was equally as good the second time round. Friendly and welcoming staff. The artworks were gorgeous and the atmosphere was great. It's tucked away and you might miss it if you're rushing by, but stop and give the place a go. You will not be disappointed. Dean told me they are renovating soon and developing an Indigenous 'bush-tucker' menu with dishes featuring emu, croc, and roo.
Their A frame caught my attention and I was curious, so headed downstairs to a huge beautiful space, filled with stunning artwork and a different menu, inspired by native ingredients. I spoke to Chanaya, the waitress who explained they were in the process of changing supplies and menu, so some of the items were not available but there was 4 specials. The chef Dhillip joined our discussion and he suggested he could add some kangaroo to the spinach and mushroom risotto, I was sold for a bargain price of $12. I walked round the gallery until my food was ready. It was beautifully presented and tasted amazing. There was lemon myrtle gently combined with the other flavours and the tender kangaroo perfectly complimented the risotto. I will be back, to enjoy the food, art work and friendly service.
We were invited to an opening night here. Being a relatively new Brisbanite, I was keen to explore this space... it was our first visit. The Gallery/bar/restaurant was easy to find, well signed at # 300 Adelaide Street. The space was warm and welcoming. My partner LOVED the space and vowed that he'd love to visit everytime we come in to the city. This was an opening night for Indigenous artists. It was such a privilege to hear stories of country, and see such beautiful, raw, thought provoking storytelling through art. The hosts of the evening provided great food ( finger food including cooked crocodile bitesize chunks on sticks). (Apparently it is the healthiest food). We're keen to return and sample the coffee and view more great art.
***DELETED MESSAGE BY BIRRUNGA GALLERY*** Not only do they play with the workers' schedules and time, but they also do not pay their employees and rely on lies and excuses. I had to chase them for more than a month to get them to pay me my salary that they swore they had sent me, which was not true and on top of that they have refused to pay my super anuation after I have asked them via message and email on multiple occasions to do so. Of course it has already been reported to the relevant authorities but it is a disgrace that they do not even deign to reply. They have never wanted to show their faces nor have they been concerned about what has happened.
Love this spot. Beautiful art, delicious food. Immaculate vibes & great friendly service. Very unique place. I came for a weekday breakfast and made my own with toast, poached egg, spinach, mushrooms and emu. The emu was smoky, charred and savoury with a hint of spices (not spicy) just absolutely mouth-watering. Took some time to wander around and take a gander at the art and never felt rushed. There are lots of interesting merch available to purchase, home goods, cosmetics, clothing, bags, jewellery. It’s a whole experience and you should plan to spend a fair bit of time here to enjoy it.

We loved this Gallery. Its quite small but had a exhibition of artwork from our Indigenous artist. Had a big impact on my son. We talked about the issues raised. Had some juice and water. The chef was kind enough to offer us a parting gift in the likes of a gluten free banana bread. My son had it when we got back and was very impressed with the taste. The staff was very accommodating, kind and polite. Highly recommended a visit if your in Brisbane.
We had an absolutely awful experience this morning. The staff were extremely unexperienced and the cook was very rude and disrespectful!!! Waited far too long for a simple meal and they got our drinks order wrong. We were then ordered to leave and they literally threw half our money back to us over the counter when we politely asked how long we were to wait!! I have never been treated like that before and will never recommend or go back there!!
Fascinating Short walk from Adelaide St bus stop 28 Take the stairs down and wander about - there’s no obligation to eat or drink anything I don’t think - just wander about and look at the painting’s Staff were lovely and welcoming, and also gave some insight into the art Edit I wrote this before I then met the owner - welcoming/captivating and passionate - I could have chatted with Robert for hours
This place is amazing the food and presentation is that of any 5 star business, the owners are great people and easy to talk to on any subjects it was a delight to come here and I would recommend that anyone in the area drop in and experience the effort the staff put into making your stay incredible also look around at the talented indigenous artist's work on display. Keep it up !!!!!
Great experience every time I go! Unique native Australian menu, lovely service and surrounded by phenomenal art. Love the functions they host too, selflessly showcasing and supporting local talent and small businesses (exhibitions, artisan markets). The owners Birrunga and Susie always say a warm hello. Hidden underground, it’s one of Brisbane’s best kept secrets!
I had my baby shower here the weekend just gone. It was a great deal for high tea which I got through Groupon and I am so glad I have now discovered this gem. The food was lovely and the service went well beyond what was expected. I would highly recommend coming here for your weekend brunch or special occasion. I will definitely be back!
Had the best birthday lunch ever. Dean and Scott served us today. Very healthy lunch at reasonable prices. True home made desserts were delicious. Very generous serving sizes. Lovely cosy setting, inside or outside. Walking distance to Southbank but away from the hustle and bustle. We really enjoyed our afternoon. Thanks Guys. …
Really enjoy the casual dining of this place, it's also a great sanctuary to get off the street and heat. Staff are friendly and provide good service. Have used this place for a number of work functions because of the great space, highly recommend to use it for work functions as it holds people really well and the catering is good.
This place is amazing. Its a beautiful downstairs space away from the hustle and bustle of the sidewalk. Decorated with wonderful indigenous artwork, with a bar and cafe. It was cold day when I visited and this place is warm and inviting. Definitely worth a visit, if only for a coffee, the atmosphere and the art.
Amazing spot. Well curated art, awesome space and delicious food. We popped in for a tour with one of the artists for a work event, and would highly recommend doing this. Awesome sharing of the stories behind the artworks giving a great appreciation of both the art and country. Will definitely be back.
A great new addition to Ernest Street at South Bank, at a quiet end and is part of the art gallery. Friendly service, cafe is relaxing and comfy with a pretty extensive menu. Food was great, coffee was a little too frothy for a flat white. Overall, pretty good and will go back here when in the area.
We held a lunch event here recently, the staff were extremely helpful in the leadup to the event. On the day they were super attentive and made sure our group were well looked after on the day. The food was also great quality and rate the Native Option. Looking forward to coming to the space again.
We had a delicious lunch including some really interesting and tasty food. The art was also excellent. Everything was lovely including the owner who took the time to have a great chat with us. Highly recommend!!

I would love to give more stars. The service was excellent but the coffee was beyond terrible. This was the first coffee I have ever returned. It's a fantastic venue and perhaps my barista and cook just had an off day. Nevertheless it wont stop me from going back and giving it another shot.
My husband and found this little gem by accident yesterday on the way to the Gabba for the first day if the test. It was busy and reinforcements came in to assist by Mr Henderson himself. I can honestly say the quality of food was super and we will be returning before we return to the uk
Definitely and without a doubt one of Brisbane's most unique experiences Enjoy the great food, friendly staff and amazing art. Food and drink prices are very reasonable, The Artisan markets (held monthly) are a MUST. You can purchase authentic artifacts direct from the creators-
The gallery is worth visiting on a regular basis as the displayed art work changes. Whilst there you can enjoy a coffee and a snack or a more substantial meal. There is also a fine selection of wines by the glass or bottle to accompany your meal.
Stopped by for breakfast this morning, absolutely amazing food. Chef's omelette with chilli jam was fantastic. Pancakes were nice and fluffy, all serves very generous at a very reasonable price. Will definitely be back. Highly recommend.
Great food, good atmosphere, reasonably priced. If you want to immerse yourself into some Aboriginal cultural food then I recommend either the kangaroo steak or kangaroo steak sandwich. You can pre-order, so see attached menu and enjoy!
Had a cheeky post wedding breakfast here this morning and the boys working there were amazing. They went above and beyond and were so kind to us. The bacon here is amazing!!!!!!!! Omg, so yum. Dessert was lovely, thank you so much.
Birrunga Events are fantastic with such amazing staff who take initiative, communicate well, and are genuine people. The food is amazing and the service is so professional. Would 100% recommend their catering for your events!
This is a must do if you are in the city. Food and drinks, inspired by native flavours, are extremely high quality. The gallery hosts some phenomenal work. The breakfast menu is the best I've seen around Brisbane CBD.
Visited the Gallery yesterday with some work colleagues. Beautiful exhibit and friendly staff. My company then ordered catering today apart of NAIDOC week. So much delicious food with traditional flavors added.
Absolutely outstanding experience. Wonderfully curated art space, beautiful food, perfect service, and a genuine sense of generosity and hospitality from the gallery owner. Cannot recommend highly enough.
It's a cafe with art spread around it rather than a gallery with a cafe in it. Friendly staff. Liked the coffee.

This was my second time here and it was even better than last time! Amazing food made by a friendly and helpful chef and super reasonable prices. Will 100% be returning regularly.
Great gallery with a nice layout for functions, meetings and art. Nice food ! Very informational about first Australians, their culture and history. I loved the casual atmosphere.
Had a painting class here for my birthday. It was super fun. It is very laid back. It is definitely social not a lot of technical guidance but that's not what I came for anyway!
Thank you so much for your mother's day lunch...it was absolutely delicious!...the paintings are stunning as well...thank you again..we'll definately be back …
Used my groupon this morning for their breakfast menu. Had scrambled eggs on sourdough and the BEST bacon ever! Staff very welcoming and friendly. Highly recommend!
Very lovely. Beautiful food and service at the cafe. Some wonderful works in the gallery. I do enjoy going often as they change featured artists and works monthly.
Really enjoyed the cleverly designed light lunch menu and we will be back to try the larger main meals. The staff were very welcoming so next time we will eat in.
Best Eggs Benedict in Brisbane by far! SO DELICIOUS!! Eggs were cooked perfectly the sauce is house made and the bacon is to die for. Will definitely be back!
Great place, friendly staff. Gluten free friendly. I bought my daughter here and she loved it. Great staff, the barista dean was especially helpful.
Soo yummy the new chef is very talented! Perfect poached eggs and very flavoursome dukkah.. service was very friendly and catered to all our needs!
I visited just to see art work and have to say that I wasn't disappointed at all considering it's gallery/cafe. There are some spectacular pieces!
