"This is probably the worst haircut I have ever gotten"
"Update: The stylist reached out to me and informed me that they thought the style I requested and photos I showed were outdated and that they decided (without discussing it with me) to do something with more "character" and "style""
"My kids have never received a worse haircut, other than the time I, a complete amateur, thought I could do it"
"EDIT: The shop manager reached out to me and was kind enough to offer a full refund and discount for my next appointment, as well as time to try and get me in asap to have my hair fixed"
"Furious! My hair was down to my butt I asked for a trim and layers and it’s a short puff cut now!!! and the whole time the staff was complaining that they didn’t get paid and then she cut off over 5” and told me she would take 2"
This is probably the worst haircut I have ever gotten. The fade is incredibly uneven (one side is basically a complete buzz with no fade at all, while the other is a bit more of a “normal” fade. It’s completely lopsided to the point that it’s noticeable from the front, photos attached.) The top part of my hair is completely crooked — I have pieces that are inches longer than others that fall over (my hair dresser cut it into the style of nearly a comb over, despite that not being what I asked for/the reference photos I showed), that even when I push them over are still far longer than the other pieces. When hair is pushed forward, one side is around two inches longer than the other (one side nearly covers my eye, while the other side is at my hairline, photo attached.) There’s one patch in the back that’s significantly longer than anything else. I had to make an appointment today at another barber shop and will hopefully be able to get it fixed. Additionally, as a transgender man going to get a haircut, I went out of my way to look for a “LGBT Friendly” barber/salon, as I’ve often had really uncomfortable haircut experiences. However, upon sitting down and showing reference pictures, I was immediately told by my hairdresser “I’ve never had a woman ask for hair that short before”. This was incredibly disappointing, as Bishops is supposedly queer friendly (even had a pride flag in the window), and I was hoping it’d be somewhere in DC I could get a haircut as a trans man and feel comfortable. I will not be returning, and do not encourage any transgender people (or people who want a good haircut) to get their hair cut here.
Update: The stylist reached out to me and informed me that they thought the style I requested and photos I showed were outdated and that they decided (without discussing it with me) to do something with more "character" and "style". To come in with photos and have a stylist decide to do something different without discussing it is entirely unacceptable. I didn't want my hair this short and I don't like when my hair is this short, it doesn't suit me. It's not the cut I asked for and frankly isn't a good cut period. The sides of the cut are different lengths and it's uneven with drastic changes in length close to the face. The back is also uneven. The only way to "fix" it would be to cut it shorter so it's even. Was told the salon was going to refund me but I haven't been refunded. Go somewhere else. My advice if you have a pixie cut is to just go somewhere else. My first visit here wasn't bad but the pixie was cut much too short and the entire back was shaved very short but it didn't look bad and my reference didn't show the back so I blamed myself. But I went for a maintenance on my pixie cut and to avoid any confusion (and being cut too short again) I showed reference photos with three angles (front side and back). I prefer a long pixie with shaggy bangs in front. Instead I've been left with buzzed sides and the top is too short to even style and the "bangs" were disconnected from the rest of the hair. The first time it still looked good but this time it just looks awful and I'll have to wear it with a headband or something until it grows back. After this I honestly wont go back.
My kids have never received a worse haircut, other than the time I, a complete amateur, thought I could do it. The youngest looks like he’s straight out of the 90s with a bowl cut, and the oldest has some weird v thing going on in the front of his head. We were just gonna go see Santa but this place basically ruined Christmas pictures. I appreciate them squeezing us in a walk-ins but if pretty booked and can’t do a walk-in without jacking it up, then you probably shouldn’t do it. My wife is mortified and can’t believe a they charged 110$ for trash. Now I gotta pay another 50$ to get it fixed somewhere else. Update: The owner/manager did reach out and apologized for the haircuts and ensured us that he would talk to the hair stylist. He was very kind and offered to fix the haircuts and promised that this isn’t a reflection of his other stylist. Based on other reviews I think we just got the one bad stylist at the shop and we’re considering a return to a different stylist this time.
EDIT: The shop manager reached out to me and was kind enough to offer a full refund and discount for my next appointment, as well as time to try and get me in asap to have my hair fixed. I showed Lynora a photo of the curtain bang trim i normally get with Naz or another stylist- she cut my bangs straight across and so short that they were sticking up straight. I had to ask her to stop cutting because she kept on saying that cutting it shorter would help. She still charged me for the appointment with only a $5 discount despite knowing how bad it was, because she kept apologizing for it. I’ve been coming to Bishops for years and this is so so disappointing.
Furious! My hair was down to my butt I asked for a trim and layers and it’s a short puff cut now!!! and the whole time the staff was complaining that they didn’t get paid and then she cut off over 5” and told me she would take 2.5…my hair is curly it’s at my shoulders now-I need my money refunded asap it will take me 3+yrs to grow back!!! So upset but didn’t want to cry at the place so I just left and paid since I felt bad they their manager isn’t paying them…Never been more disappointed from a haircut!!!
Jo’Von was PHENOMENAL. On Friday I got a sew-in that was installed but not styled at all whatsoever. I’m talking leave out, left out - no blend, no layers, nothing. Not only did Jo’Von have me in and out in less than 30 minutes, he took the time to listen to what I wanted, consulted me on what was possible, and then worked literal magic. A $55 haircut saved my $500+ hairstyle all thanks to Jo’Von’s skill and expertise.
Have gotten my hair cut here twice- once by Michela and another time by Armon and they did amazing. The best haircuts I have gotten. They not only know hair very well, but are amazing at customer service and working with a client. I feel like they were so talented that they knew how to cut my hair so that it looked amazing even when not styled at home. So happy. Would recommend!!
I could not be happier with the quality of haircuts I've been getting from Jessica R.! She has done an excellent job and through her good work, convinced me to become a regular at Bishops. The location is super convenient, easy to book and very pleasant to hang out while you wait for your haircut. The cost of the haircut is well worth it. Will be going back again and again!
I love coming to this shop to get my haircut from one of the coolest person by the name of Mr James and everyone here is very serious of their clients that has a great life and I recommend anyone to come to bishops haircuts-hair color great customer service and everyone that works in this shop has great respect towards every customer that comes inside the shop
Been here 2 years and finally found my spot for a men’s haircut in DC. Looked up places all over the city for weeks scouring reviews and pictures. Mike Houston was phenomenal in the haircut itself as well as how personable he was and the time he took to make sure he understood what I was going for. Best fade I’ve ever had and at a completely reasonable price.
If you haven’t tried them yet, book an appointment with the small but mighty Sage, who gave me the best haircut and style that I’ve had in a very long time! I was able to sit and relax as Sage took her time cutting layers and styling my hair. I never felt rushed and Sage gave me the relaxed vibe I was looking for. You must book with Sage!!!
They were very friendly and accommodating when I needed to adjust my appointment time for my event. I came in with no idea what I wanted done for my up-do, showed my hairstylist my dress, and she came up with this BEAUTIFUL result! I have also gotten my hair cut here and I highly recommend it all around.
Wonderful customer service. This was my first time dying my hair so I was nervous but it turned out wonderful and the staff were incredibly kind throughout the whole process. I would highly recommend for anyone from getting a normal haircut to trying a fun new style/color.
I needed a haircut for my company's holiday party. I came from our of state and needed to trust a good barber. I found this place and was welcomed in like family. The haircut came out amazing! Plus I looked really good at my holiday party. Great place and amazing barbers!
Bebe did an amazing job on my haircut and blow out! The salon is clean and the scalp massage was relaxing. Her attention to detail was consistent throughout - even blocking my ear that had a new piercing so it wouldn’t get pulled by hair! Will definitely be back.
Please book with Jo’Von! He was very nice, professional, and did so well with my hair. I have very coily and kinky hair that's low porosity and he was very gentle with it. I booked a blow dry and deep condition and I'll definitely be booking him with again!
Such a great experience! Jovon did an amazing job on everything to my cut, shampoo, blow dry, style and more. This is definitely going to become my place to get my hair done. It’s super affordable for the service you’re getting.
Pretty disappointed and wouldn't consider my cut a skin-fade. I would not recommend this spot if you're after a low skin fade as they don't seem to competent in providing that (see image). Definitely regret spending $70 here.
I had a great experience with Jo'Von getting my hair dyed purple and a trim. I'm going to have to get use to the new purple since its been violet for a while, but it is a great color. Looking forward to future visits.
James did such a great job with my long hair cut. He gave me the best hair cut ever and I love it so much. I also had an amazing Plex treatment. Overall I loved the services from James. Highly recommended! :)
I met Mike two months ago, and I stay completely happy with my choice to deal with him. He helped me with a new haircut and curling yesterday for my birthday, and I want to say thank you, Mike!
Here on business and was looking for a place to get a quick trim. The young lady, I believe her name was Candace took care of me and did a phenomenal job. Great experience and vibe at Bishop!
Love the shop decor. Convenient location. Very nice area. My stylist is so nice and excellent at her job. I received a beautiful haircut and style that fits my face. I am totally satisfied.
I have read a lot of good reviews about Fredrick then I requested to have my hair cut with him and I wanted to have face framing but I ended up with two levels hair cut !!!
Just phenomenal what a great place to get some hair service. Terrific atmosphere awesome ambiance and music. Nice friendly courteous pleasant staff. Absolutely come here.
It was raining and my stylist Sage decided not to comb out my curls, this way I’ll have curls the next day. Really appreciate it! Love Sage as my hair stylist.
I've been seeing Mike Houston for the past year and he has been doing a great job. He's super friendly and really good with curly hair. Would recommend!
James did a great job on my cut and style!! He loves his job and you can tell! My hair looks healthy and beautiful, highly recommend!!
Jessica did an amazing job! She was professional and welcoming and understood exactly what haircut I wanted.
Excellent service. Great price. Best Barber shop in the city hands down
