️ I recently visited Broken Plate Greek Restaurant in YYC, and it was an amazing dining experience! From the moment we walked in, the ambiance was warm and inviting. The staff was incredibly friendly, and our waiter was very knowledgeable about the menu. For starters, we ordered the Saganaki - a flaming cheese dish that was deliciously savory and paired perfectly with the fresh pita bread. The Tzatziki was also a favorite of mine - it was so creamy and had the perfect balance of garlic and dill. For our mains, we ordered the Souvlaki Plate and the Moussaka. The Souvlaki was perfectly cooked and seasoned, and the tzatziki on the side was a great touch. The Moussaka was flavorful and hearty - it felt like I was enjoying a homemade meal at my grandmother's house. To finish off the night, we indulged in the Galaktoboureko - a creamy custard wrapped in crispy phyllo pastry and topped with a honey syrup. It was the perfect ending to an amazing meal. Overall, I would highly recommend Broken Plate Greek Restaurant to anyone looking for a delicious and authentic Greek dining experience in YYC. The food was outstanding, the service was impeccable, and the ambiance was warm and inviting. I can't wait to go back! My Instagram: @Dr.Epra

I had a lunch reservation there today (September 15, 2023) along with two others and the staff who asked for the details of our reservation made the point to ignore me and address the other person I was with (she was White, and the third person was on their way) almost as if to pass the message folks like me are not welcome at the restaurant. I am used to such treatment after living in Calgary for about 18 years, but didn't really expect it in a restaurant since they cater to the public. Truly, we were there for almost two hours and I was the only Black person there. Not insinuating anything, just saying it as it is. I also thought the food was overpriced and just plain regular. We had grilled octopus to share as a starter. It was two medium sized octopus tentacles on a bed of clams filled with lentils which was a bit of a disappointment at $24. I had lamb souvlaki as an entrée – 2 sticks served with Greek fries ($26). The fries were good, the souvlaki, not particularly so for me – just salty. The baklava cheese cake is quite good though. Sorry, for the overall experience, I won't be visiting again anytime soon - knowing of course I won't be missed either.

Great place. The food was fantastic. We had hummus to start and braised Lamb .. so good, could have licked my plate clean. Server was prompt, patient, and attentive without being overbearing. Its not dripping with atmosphere or a heavy theme but it's cozy without being crowded. The place was pretty busy and wasn't super loud. Great place for a date if you want to talk over a bottle of wine or some place to celebrate a special occasion. We'll be back for sure.

Kid-friendliness
They have kids menu options (pasta or souvlaki. The souvlaki plate it pretty big still, so not a little kid option, but good value. It's not the kind of place to have crayons and coloring the menu though.

Our family favourite is the zesty kopanisti spread with warm pita. We always add an extra order of pita when we get any of the dips. The lamb souvlaki plate is perfect for me to share with my toddler (great for takeout too) but it's always hard to decide between that or a bunch or appetizers like the calamari or spanakopita. Can't lose! This is a go-to spot for my family and you can tell from the clientele that we're not the only ones who feel that way. It's always packed with families, couples, double dates, and friends catching up. My husband was under the misguided belief that he doesn't like Greek food and now he's suggesting Broken Plate for dinner all the time.

They're always very kind to my child and the noise level is high enough that "kid noise" doesn't really impact the ambiance.

We stopped by for celebratory birthday lunch of my parents-in-law (yes, they share their birthday). The decor of the restaurant is very appealing-modern, spacious with tons of natural light. We had moussaka, grilled octopus salad, calamari and a few pita wraps for kids. Everything was fresh, delicious and something we would gladly have again. Their mango passion fruit drink was exquisite with pieces of actual Passionfruit. Yet, what made this place stand apart was an exceptionally great service. Our server-Max was so cheerful and considerate. He offered to take our pictures, always inquired about our needs and offered my parents-in-law to do their infamous plate smashing! Two plates with “Happy birthday “ signage were gleefully smashed by my frail in-laws (Max gently guided them through the process). The entire experience was topped off by an offering of two desserts (on the house) complete with sparklers! Thank you for creating such a memorable experience for our family!!!

From the moment we walked in the atmosphere is welcoming and light, and the service was very helpful and kind. From the very first bite of food to the last had me smiling. It was light and flavourful and the portions were perfect allowing us to share a couple starters and a main and be content and full. The ingredients are fresh and real and the price is a very fair reflection of the care the folks here put into the preparation and cooking of each meal. Never before have I felt so good after such a big meal at a restaurant.

Broken Plate offered a beautiful greek experience with an excellent selection of delectable dishes. We chose a quartet of appetizers to try (as it was our first time) consisting of the trio of spreads (Tzatziki, Red Beet Hummus, Kopanisti, & Grilled Pita), Olive & Feta (Kalamata, Parthena olives, and Feta Cheese), Dolmades (Lamb Stuffed Vine Leaves, Avgolemono Sauce), and Calamari (Buttermilk Crispy Calamari, Cherry Tomato Salsa, Tzatziki) All chosen items offered a unique and authentic flavour that was enough to satisfy our desire to return in the future. Prices were affordable. The wine list was sufficiently expansive however the cheaper bottles could be a bit more creative. The ambiance was a bit audibly distracting if conversing. If you’re looking for affordable greek style dining look no further than Broken Plate! Cheers

The ambiance was wonderfully calming, complemented by great music and pleasant lighting. Each bite of the flavorful dishes was thoroughly enjoyed. The calamari starter, featuring a robust lemon flavor and accompanied by tzatziki sauce, was exceptionally good. For the main course, the lamb shoulder was perfectly cooked, served with a delicious sauce, mashed potatoes, and veggies. The baklava cheesecake provided a unique and delightful experience, showcasing creativity and a delicious taste. The service was outstanding, with attentive and caring staff. Overall, it was a fantastic dining experience.

Yea super decent. Went for a friend's bday dinner. Ordered the tzatziki and beet humus for apples. Really tasty. Got the special (beef short ribs, w/ mash and veggies) for dinner. Wife got the chicken souvlaki and said it was awesome! Nice and tender. Happy hour drink prices are good. Will def go again. *Update addition* I forgot to mention my friend, for her birthday, wanted to break a plate. Not only did she have the opportunity, but the restaurant wrote Happy Birthday Amanda on the plate and she had a great time throwing it against the floor.

The atmosphere was very clean, calm and relaxing. When we arrived it was busy but managed very well by the staff. The staff service is the best I have experienced. We were helped by three different people and the service was consistent amongst all of them. If any staff saw that a table needed something, they would go over and handle it professionally. The drinks are delicious and strong! We had the cool night and old fashion. The food is also delicious; we had spanakopita (amazing), saganaki, dolamdes, calamari, mousaka, and creme Brule (amazing). We were stuffed! The prices were reasonable for the quality of food served.

Broken Plate has a terrific atmosphere. It's a very nice authentic Greek resteraunt. The service was good. However, some of the dishes were a little sub par I had the butternut squash and shrimp ravioli and I have to say that it was excellent but the serving size was just a little too small. They could also have more vegetarian options.

Food was very flavourful. The waitress (kate) was nice and hospitable. The food came out within a decent amount of time. I got the seafood linguini and my husband got the lamb dish. Covid restrictions have been lifted so we wernt asked for our covid passports. The place was clean and even had cushions at each station which made the place more home-y feeling. They have have an outdoor patio for the summer months. Parking is tight but over all a good place to eat.

4.5. It was my first time being there, definitely over expectation, had a good time, enjoyed all the dishes. Grilled octopus was unique, loved the lentils with seafood style. Lamb chop was very tasty, good flavor, meat was tender, perfectly cooked. Drinks were good, decent price. Service was great, very popular place, busy. Will definitely go back.

I have been multiple times and the service and food is always consistently great. I love the cheese appetizer (they light it on fire at the table). For a main I love the rack of lamb and mashed potato’s or the lobster ravioli. Sometimes I get all 3! Always cooked perfectly! I will definitely be a repeat customer!

Great food for what I had but pricey for sure. Hummus Trio was $26 (other greek restaurants give more dips and cost about $15). Lamb Shank was one of the best I've had but very little food for a main ($36). Service was alright, not spectacular, and not all waitresses know the wine menu well. Did not offer to find another to help select wine nor were glasses of non- alcohol refilled or asked for more. Minor things for service related issues. Would eat here again.

Wow, what an excellent meal and evening. The food was spectacular and the service was exceptional. The desert baklava is made with walnuts instead of pistachios so my wife was ecstatic sine she is allergic to pistachios. The photos show the appetizers: spanakopita and calamari (wow!), the mains were: beef short rib stroganoff gnocchi and lamb chops, the deserts: baklava and baklava cheesecake all made in house. We highly recommend this restaurant.

Fantastic. Had saganaki and lamb shoulder, rest of the table had various other dishes. The whole restaurant smells incredible when you walk in, and the food and service was outstanding. It's been many years since we've had a perfect dining experience such as this. Bravo.

I've had the lamb shanks and I'm not a massive lamb fan and it was beautiful. I have booked 2 times now the new year's Eve special and it is absolutely worth every penny you will pay. The food is to die for and the atmosphere is beautiful and quiet and comfortable

For the cheese appetizer Flambéed table side, that was cool to see. The calamari salad was alright, salad was fresh but calamari was tough and chewy. The salmon platter was really good. This was our second visit, the first time we got the moussaka and that was amazing. The dessert is also great! I’ve now tried the cheesecake, the crème brûlée and my friend got the baklava which looked good as well!

Some of the best customer service I have ever experienced. Beautiful interiors and cozy atmosphere. It combined to a wonderful dine-in experience.
