The Brooklyn Ferry Service captain caused major inconvenience to a school excursion of 130 students returning from camp, by forcing their much bigger ferry to leave the wharf halfway through their disembarkation and causing a 30minute delay. Apparently, he was ‘sick of that ferry being late and wanted to teach them an f’n lesson’. I tried to explain that his inflexibility would cause the school kids returning from camp a major problem. He was not interested in this and was focused on only his ferry’s problem. I watched this captain sit in the ferry on the wharf for a full twenty minutes seeming to do some paperwork while the bigger ferry waited in the river for him to leave. Finally, he left with a single passenger. This delay would cause a ripple effect of issues: getting caught in more of Sydney’s peak hour traffic, needing to do a food stop because of the extra time since lunch, which then caused an unscheduled toilet stop, which is problematic with a coach that cannot manoeuvre tight spaces and so is restricted to using a service station exit. I can understand that there might be space and scheduling issues that are causing issues at Brooklyn Wharf, but using 130 school kids as pawns in such a conflict was very unfair.
Every time I need to catch the ferry my day is instantly ruined by my interactions with the drivers (the younger ones are an exception and are really great). They will come up with any excuse to not let you on so be careful not to carry one too many bags or the wrong sized object. There is no description on what you can or cannot take on yet they will pull you up at any time point. One day their card reader did not work but would not let you on without cash that you cannot get anywhere. Do not rely on this service as you may be disappointed, I would book the water taxi. On a day where I just needed someone to be kind, they were not.
Ferry price is competitive and fair. Even though I was a student and forgot to bring the blue transport concession card I was kindly told by the skipper that next time I should bring it Skipper was very friendly, and the boat was in excellent condition. I got to take a lot of photos/videos even though the ferry only went to Dangar Island. The skipper said to me to come for the 10:15am or 2pm service to have it stop at all stops so the trip takes a scenic route.
The driver didn't accept my concession card and charged me full adult price fare both ways. Make sure y'all take your transport concession entitlement blue card with you, he doesn't accept student id cards or opal concession card, this info is not on the website or fb page either. I wouldn't recommend Brooklyn Ferry's tbh. 18 bucks for a trip to Dangar island and back is a rip off for a student.
Nice 45 mins experience on the ferry. Paid $15 per person for to and fro experience. Ferry stopped at Dangar (15 mins) good enough for a quick coffee at a small cafe on the Dangar wharf. Then we went to Wooby and then back to brooklyn. Dogs were allowed on the ferry. The ferry driver was kind and let us go on front deck with children. We saw a lot of jelly fish on the way to Dangar.
An excellent ferry service that services the popular Dangar Island from Brooklyn. Great views of the Hawkesbury River and the rail bridge during the trip. The vessel we rode appeared to be reasonably new. Very comfortable. We paid just over $8 each way for the trip to the island. The ferry stop is located about 300 metres north of the Hawkesbury River railway station.
Tap to pay for the ferry is the easy way to get the tickets. Check the time before you go can save more time on your to travel danger island. It cost AUD 10.3 for a single,$20.6 return.
What a brilliant day out on the Hawksbury River, the day was perfect, views magnificent, lunch phenomenal, it was truly sad to see the day end. So looking forward to being able to do this trip again in the near future. A fantastic day out, the boat, crew, were all tremendous, I highly recommend a trip on this vessel.
Very good service. Well worth doing the round trip to Dangar Island . You can get off at Dangar and explore the island . Beautiful views of the Hawkesbury. It is an old fashioned small wooden ferry which is fabulous to ride in. A real adventure . Round trip takes about 40 minutes . Ideal for families and tourists.
Service was on time. Imo the ticket fare is quite high at $9.70 for an adult single trip and child without concession the same. We missed a ferry and then had to wait for am entire hour so we did not get enough time to walk around. I would like to go again but to pay $70+ for a family of 4 seems too much for us.
Great Ferry Service on the Hawkesbury River at Brooklyn. Beautifully restored and well maintained Ferries. Take a trip on the River in a one of these historic boats. Very friendly and helpful skippers make this adventure to Wobby Beach and Dangar Island a must do when you are visiting Brooklyn,
We used this service to visit Dangar island. This is not very frequent so one has to plan the trip accordingly. It is just 15 mins with wonderful views. The ferry is not very big but can accommodate I guess 20 people. Opal card does not work. Payments can be done via card or cash.
The ferry boat driver was very helpful and welcoming. He made sure he accommodated for all the passengers not just some. There is options for passengers with disabilities and wheelchairs. It was a quick 30 minute trip and we saw many jellyfish on the way
The ferry driver on duty last Saturday morning, was the rudest man I have ever come across. If you don’t like your job and your going to be grumpy to passengers please do the public a favour and find yourself another job.
A great, clean & efficient service to Dangar island. $31 one way for 2x adults and 2x children. Not cheap but Dangar is nice day out with a lovely cafe, friendly community and walks around the island.
A quiant but fun and reliable ferry service. This small boat does an hourly loop from Brooklyn to Dangar Island. Cash only, and no Opal, despite being part of the the Sydney Ferries network.
This 5 star review goes out to Dave! I've been on this ferry a few times and had very poor service but Dave was so kind and helpful! Really appreciated his service today …
A fun and efficient ferry service connecting Brooklyn with Little Wobby and Dangar Island. Beautiful views of the Hawkesbury River - well worth the $10 Adult ticket price!
Amazing ferry ⛴️ service to Dangar Island ️ they even let us take our bikes on it so we could have a little adventure around the island …
Caught the ferry to Little Wobby to hike to Wondabyne The skipper was really helpful, directing us to the trail head and advising us about routes.
Nice ride from Brooklyn Wharf to Dangar Island. Calm waters… good speed approximately 30-35 mins with stop at Wobby Wharf. Reliable time run.
Driver was extremely rude and would not wait 1 minute for another person to arrive at ferry. It was torrential rain. Very unaccommodating.
$9 each way on an unsafe wooden boat. rude ferry service. boring tiny island with barely anything to do or see. would not bother.
Spent a lovely day on the Post man ferry service. Very good lunch (ploughmans) , very interesting commentary by the ferry master
Cute boat, fair fare, lovely trip, and Dangar Island as gorgeous as ever. 2 stars taken off for the unfriendly driver.
Beautiful old boat, lovely captain, well priced. Kids loved it, captain was very good with them. We will be back!
Great service, clean boat. On time with friendly service. Highly recommend as a nice day out.
Best (and only way) to get to Dangar Island. If only there was a subway in Brooklyn
Staff friendly and amusing. Excellent service. Great for a day trip!
We had lots of gear & captain was very helpful on both journeys.
Love this outing, great commentary, food and views
Great experience wish I could use my opal card
