I wish to share an unsettling experience at the Gerritsen Beach Library branch, a place my family and I have loved and frequented for years. On Oct, 17th 2023 as I was returning books with my young son and our small pug dog by my side, I was loudly instructed by a staff member to exit due to our dog. Moments later, I observed another patron comfortably reading inside the library with a much larger dog. The inconsistency was both glaring and perplexing. This experience prompts me to ask: * Accessibility: Should there not be an external return system for those with disabilities, young children, or pets? * Policy Clarity: Shouldn't a visible "no pets" sign be placed near the entrance for clarity? * Professionalism & Consistency: Why is there a disparity in the enforcement of policies? How can one dog be permitted, while another isn't? The Brooklyn Public Library prides itself on inclusivity and being against racial bias. My recent experience, unfortunately, seemed to deviate from these core values. I humbly ask the Brooklyn Public Library to address this matter, ensuring that everyone, regardless of race or background, feels welcome and treated equally. And to my fellow patrons and community members, I hope we can collectively work towards a more understanding and inclusive environment.

This is a fairly decent library. It is spacious and has a decent amount of tables that are long and that have outlets. So the fact that the library is spacious and has outlets gives it two bonuses right there. Sometimes it is very nice and quiet and other times kids and even adults talk loudly. They need to make a children's room that has a door. And the staff door contributes to the noise making as most of the time when it closes it makes a loud sound, which is annoying and distracting. The toilet seat in the bathroom needs some serious cleaning. In order to obtain a guest pass to use the computer, you have to pay and pay $3. I find that so ridiculous because guests shouldn't have to pay a dime to use the computer! The library is public and most things in the library should be free. So it should not only be opened to the public, but the public shouldn't have to pay a dime.

This branch was closed for a while after Hurricane Sandy. It was a modern place before the storm and even more modern after the rebuild. It is one if the quieter branches in the BPL system but there are also times where its not. Libraries in general are no longer a sanctuary from noise. One of the drawbacks of this branch is that there is nothing around it. Say it gets noisy or even say you want to take a break and come back later. There's no place else to go. You cant go out for a bite to eat or sit and have a coffee because none of that is nearby. That's not the library's fault, and maybe that's part of the reason why this is one of the quieter branches. I've attended a few programs here which were enjoyable, like book discussions, a writing workshop, or a movie

I had been taking my kids to this little library and whenever I go there, I just love it. They have small sections for kids which is really nice to see. I love the prime location and finding parking is not an issue. The customer service is awesome and they are always helpful. I would highly recommend this place if you are around the area.

i used to come here all the time before Sandy, and it was one of the best libraries with great staff and a large selection of books. i haven't been back very often since then, but it was rebuilt pretty well and modernized with self checkouts. the bathroom is open to the public as well if the one by the park is closed.

This branch is one of the cleanest and friendliest branches in all of Brooklyn! Maybe it's because it's off the beaten path, but if you're in the area, definitely pop in, though check the hours!
