This tiny library is named after our neighborhood poet, Walt Whitman. It is compact and limited in selection, but if you're a card holder, you can always have something from another branch sent here. There's a kids section on the left side, computers for kids and adults, free Wi-Fi inside and outside. There's a wall for magazines, DVDs and adult fiction and nonfiction on the right side. They have a very popular babies and books hour and teens activities. There's an event room downstairs for baby/preschoolers near the restrooms. The branch is ADA compliant with ramps and an elevator to get down stairs. In COVID times, they are open for lobby service only. Reserve your books online (10 max) and pick them up from the tables here, self service checkout. The officer enforces only one patron/family inside at a time and is super kind and helpful. We miss our librarians and time here, and are hoping we all get to hang out soon again after we conquer COVID.

Three kids were harassing a woman. The librarian was told and did nothing. Those three kids then went though my jacket, stole my wallet and again, the librarian saw and did nothing about it. In fact she handed me my coat without letting me know they were going through it. I could have called the police, but now I’m left without an ID and lost other irreplaceable items. I only figured out what happened about 2 weeks later because I had a tracker in my wallet. Not having an ID is actually extremely problematic for me. This library is unfortunately right in the middle of a rough area and it doesn’t seem like your belongings are safe, take it from me, go elsewhere. The librarians allow teenagers to be abusive to other guests and still consider them “regulars” (her words, not mine)

  • Good Nice

I went into the walt Whitman library and I was happy with the Indian lady. The tech. and the nice Spanish lady. The rest of the staff I don't know. My bad experience is the kids and parents are out of control. The kids are very disrespectful cops comes and go as they like because of fights. The head of walt Whitman library who ever that is needs to be trained on how to get involved with the community . I don't want to be rude but walt Whitman library needs to up grade the staff on out reach .In order to find out anything you are allowed to go into the library and ask but if you don't then you will not know what is going on In the community

I went here a few times for some programs and had good experiences here. They show movies downstairs in a small community room and restrooms are downstairs. Only one table to charge computers or cellphones. Usually a quiet place to work or study. It is a small local library so there are not a great selection of books that i like. However, you can order what you want in the bpl system and they will arrive here for pickup in a few days

I went to this library so much when I was a kid that the librarians that were still working there when I was a little girl know me by name. Mr. Knapp was my favorite librarian. Someone had told me a few years back that he had passed away...don't know if it's true or not. Love this little library. I grew up in 24 Monument Walk and stopped going to Walt Whitman Library every week after my grandmother passed away in Deecmeber 2001.

It's conveniently located not too far from my house. They need to do a better job at handling the loud, disruptive, and disrespectful middle school and high school kids who come in. I used to come here regularly but now I don't because of that. They do always seem to have great events happening for them though.

I been here a couple of times so far and it's always been a pleasant experience. Not much of a variety but it is a small Library. The staff seems okay, Some more pleasant than others. Overall it's decent and have been quiet and peaceful

My childhood library, I loved this library, the guard that used to be there in the 90's, he was cool. It was a Caribbean guard in there. I was always there reading wrestling magazines. It's a great library. I recommend going there.

I have had nothing but positive a experience l just would like to get a clearer understanding of how e-book work on their system and why the BPL only orders books Once a year...

The adult patrons are mostly quiet and keep to themselves but the kids are obnoxiously loud with no parental supervision since the staff are expected to babysit them.

Great little library. I order all my books on the app and they get delivered here. Good browsing for kids especially. They also have a chess board.

  • Tia Monroe

Cute little library. Not much in variety but still a good place to get books, use the computer and study. Its quiet and serves its purpose

  • Kristin Udeochu

Lots of loud kids. Not many places to work due to small size, and tables are filled with puzzles and other children’s games.
