I rented a vehicle from this location on a Wedensday. I rented it for four days (return Saturday). Because the location doesn't have a key drop box and closes early on Saturdays, I was going to have to bring the car back Friday night by 6PM even though I had paid through Saturday. This is my first issue... not being more accommodating with returns. I then realized I wasn't going to be able to bring the car back before the location closed on Friday either. I called the location and was told that I could either keep it until Monday and pay for 6 days, or keep it until Tuesday and pay for a full week, with the full weekly rate being less expensive. I agreed to do this. However, when I later checked my contract, the Weekly reate was 10 TIMES the daily rate for some reason. This is not what I was told by the location, and by the time I realized this, I was in a bind because I had already made plans to keep the car for additional days based on this misinformation. Second complaint: misinformation. I then tried calling the local location again at about 2PM Mountain time. The calls were just forwarded to the companies administrative offices which were closed, and thus I received a recording. Selection of any of the options provided by the recording simply resulting in the system asking for an extension and then disconnecting the cal. Third complaint: ridiculously lousy customer service and an inability to reach local locations if they decide they don't feel like answering their phone. I then called the reservation number. The only way I could get ahold of a live person was by pretending I wanted to make a new reservation. The first person told me that she couldn't put me in touch with a local office, so I asked to speak to a supervisor. I was transferred to someone who actually wasn't a supervisor, and this individual transferred me again. The third person was not a supervisor, and finally on the third try, I was successfully transferred to someone who claimed to be in a supervisory role. Fourth complaint: reservations agents unable to offer any kind of assistance. When I finally spoke to the supervisor, she asked me for two pieces of information: a number off of my keys, and a rental agreement number. I gave her both of these pieces of information, and she still couldn't find my reservation. She finally looked me up using my phone number, but she said that she cuoldn't view my contract because the location didn't attach the contract to my reservation. I don't know who is more to blame, the locatl location or Budget. The local location provided misinformation that's going to cost me about $250, and I can't get them to answer their phones to discuss. Corporate Budget, on the other hand, is clearly just ans unconcerned with customer service because after spending hours trying to reach someone to assist, I was ultimately told by a SUPERVISOR that she couldn't do anything because the local location didn't process the paperwork properly. She told me to call the local location (clearly she wasn't listening when I told her repeatedly that they weren't answering their phones), so then I was back where I started. I will definitely not rent from Budget again, and if I ever had to for some reason, I would choose a different location. I would encourage others to steer clear of this company/location as well.

We will never go to them again. Would put 0 star rating if could. My husband rented from them before and we decided to go with them again thinking it would be cheaper to go with than U-Haul, Penske, etc. First off we made a reservation online for pick-up at 11:30 am for a Saturday and that's the earliest reservation they had available. We also made this reservation a week in advance, got the confirmation number, instructions, and everything. So Saturday comes and we get there to pick up the truck. The girl in charge of truck rentals tells us she already gave away every single truck that morning at 8:30 and that the next one available wouldn't be until 4:00 that night! Two other couples came in behind us that had also made reservations and overheard what the girl had just told us. My husband and the other two couples pull up the reservation information on their phones and show the girl and ask her after she says that she has no record of any of these reservations why the hell do they give you the option to reserve a truck or any equipment online if they're just going to give all the trucks to whoever walks in before the scheduled pickup time? Instead of having an answer for us just told all of us to come back at 4:00. We didn't leave and demanded that they fixed it and after asking for a manager, which turns out there was no manager on site the only resolution she gave us was that she could "email"...not call... email her manager and see if there was any other trucks available in the area we could get. Needless to say we left along with the two other couples that got screwed over because Budget is a company that's ran by shady liars and employees that have no clue what they're doing! We went to one of the closest U-Haul locations after and turns out this is a common practice of Budget Rent-A-Car to have reservations made and then give them away constantly to other people. The lady working for U-Haul said she's lost track of how many people she gets on a day to day basis coming in to rent a truck because Budget screwed them over. Also last note U-Haul for day to day and per mile rental was cheaper and more accommodating than Budget we found after renting with them.

3 safety issues. Issue 1: One of the car carrier tires was about to come apart, I didn't notice it until halfway through my drive across states. I called Budget's emergency road service number, was texted my claim number, and both phone representative and text message stated I would receive a call shortly from a coordinator to review the situation. Nobody from Budget called me within half an hour so I called the road service number, by the time their live representative came on the line, it had been over an hour and I had yet to receive the call from the coordinator, that made me feel like Budget has a different perspective on what they consider emergencies. A tire on the car carrier that was about to fall apart while driving on the road, carrying my vehicle, is an emergency. Luckily I happened to be pulled over at a gas station that also had a tire shop who could replace the tire. Since Budget's coordinator was not calling me, I had to make a decision. I had the tire shop replace the tire on Budget's car carrier. I called Budget and told them what happened and that I wanted them to refund my cost for replacing their tire they should never had left on the car carrier before giving it to me. They said they would not reimburse me since I did not get their authorization before having the tire replaced. I asked to speak to their supervisor. The supervisor reimbursed me for the cost of the tire replacement, and also refunded around 25% of the cost of the truck rental. Issue 2: The speedometer was not working properly, it would indicate I was slowing down in speed when in reality I was accelerating. Budget's documentation advises not to drive faster than 55MPH when towing the car carrier. I had to guess how fast I was going to hopefully not be driving faster than 55MPH. Issue 3: The truck was given to me dirty, not sanitized, not clean at all. In the COVID world that is unacceptable. The only reason I did not rate them as one star is because they did pay me back a certain amount, although they did not want to pay me back at first.

The F-150 we confirmed wasn't available, we got stuck with a little Nissan Rogue as the clerk at the counter explained this was the last car available. We booked the truck 6 MONTHS AHEAD!!! So as to avoid any problems. Totally unacceptable. The person at the Downtown Salt Lake City Franchise explained that there were no other vehicles available and was sarcastic and rude and unapologetic when we got there. She explained she called us THAT MORNING to let us know the truck wasn't available..... We were in the air that morning when she called and had no choice but to take this poor excuse for a safe vehicle. Our safety concerns were proven valid unfortunately for us. As it turned out we got stuck in a snowstorm going over the mountains from WY to Idaho at a very steep grade that lasted for miles while going over the mountains at over 8k feet above sea level. The vehicle struggled up the mountain and didn't feel safe. We were very concerned for our safety, a problem we wouldn't have had in the much larger, much safer F-150 with 4wd. In addition, your customer service was and is terrible. We couldn't contact the Salt Lake City downtown location directly beforehand as we tried to so as to ensure there would be no issues. We got only your general customer service number, speaking each time with a person based outside the country that didn't seem to know how to contact the location directly so we could ensure there would be no issues with the vehicle. We've been extremely loyal customers for a long time as we've only used Budget for 15 plus years. This will no longer be the case as we plan to avoid Budget and your other brand Avis going forward. We travel several times each year up to 4-5 times a year, each time renting a vehicle from budget. We will be sharing this experience with friends and family.

My experience is like or much worse than Josh Butler, Cory Christensen, and Rachel Ault. Our experience was a nightmare. We had reserved a van for 1 week and were told to pick it up by 12 pm and we were there to pick it up at 10.30. There wasn't a van available. Well we didn't have to return our rental till 1 pm the day we were suppose to get back so that was fine. 4 phone calls later and going back to the budget rent a car center at 5 pm we decided to head back home after spending the day at my wife's sisters house getting ready for a trip that included hotel reservations, events and many more things. Luckily we cancelled the first night of our hotel which would have cost around $400. I did ask for $100 back because of all the issues and they advised I would have to call corporate. I new where that was taking me. I was told the day before that all reservations for rental vans had been cancelled which totaled 5 reservations. That should tell you something. Needless to say I found alternate transportation and we left on our trip the next day. I did call the next day just to see and nothing. I did cancel at that time. I want to say they are great,friendly people over the phone and in person but from what I could tell this happens a great deal just by their demeanor. You can only get sick of saying I am sorry so many times to so many customers until it is a numbing experience for the representatives over the phone and in person. I am not saying this to get anyone fired but at some point change the way you do business as a company. I bet if you take a look at them and how they respond it will tell you, nothing I can do about this except I am sorry. From a post I read the day I left that this center is independently owned and operated which I believe. That means that if the vans don't come back, oh well. This is only a small amount of the nightmare. I read these posts for a reason, to find out other peoples stories to see if it will happen to me. Oh boy did it ever.

Called their number to reserve my rental, told the person on the phone I needed a 4-5 person vehicle didn't care what kind as long as we would fit. He says no problem reads everything back to me and reserves it. I get there they tell me I have a smart car reservation. Umm. No. I ask what I can do the lady tells me Hotwire has been doing this to them. OK, but what does that have to do with me? She says I have to call customer service. I call get another car (for $80 more than the original price) because of course there is "nothing they can do about the cost" even if it is their mixup. Get that settled the guy on the phone tells me it's all fixed in the system and I'm ready to go. I go back to the counter and the woman there says the guy in back will be with me in a minute. He walks out gets in a car and drives off the lot. It's been 50 minutes at this point. I get another lady who tells me the system hasn't updated yet it will be another 15 to 20 mins. Wait. Get up to the counter and told I need ANOTHER address verification. Fine. As we are standing their the girl asks me why I didn't just upgrade through them because they could have gotten me into something less expensive...you're kidding me right!? I ask why I was told to call customer service in the first place then and can she fix that for me, get told no. Why even bring it up then? Get through all that and they tell me they are putting a $300 hold on my card. The quote on the phone was a $200 deposit...guess who canceled went to Enterprise and had a less expensive, no surprises, bigger car in less than 30 mins. I was at this location for over an hour and not one person even ACTED like they wanted to help in the slightest bit. They treat you like the garbage that's laying around in the lot. Between the person on the customer service line and the employee's at the counter, I'll never go to any Budget again.

I prepaid for a vehicle for 1 month. I needed a vehicle for an additional month. Because of my schedule and other factors I returned the first vehicle a couple days early. BEFORE doing so, I contact budget's customer service number and confirmed there would be no issues or costs. I was told, "You just wont be reimbursed for your prepaid costs".. I ALSO contacted the customer support phone number at SLC budget, they too confirmed there would be no additional cost or issues with returning it early. I was told, "You just wont be reimbursed for your prepaid costs" WHEN DROPPING THE 1st VEHICLE OFF.. I asked the woman behind the counter if there was any costs, fees or issues I needed to be aware of before handing over the keys earlier.. She stated "NO, You just wont be reimbursed for your prepaid costs""... I picked up my new vehicle and 3 days later I see a charge on my CC for $1651!!!! .. WHY IN THE WORLD WOULD I RETURN A VEHICLE EARLY TO BE CHARGED AN ADDITIONAL $1651!!!! So I called customer service (corporate) and talked to Maria . Employee number 11424 & Angel. 28696. Angel confirmed that the charge was wrong and it would be fixed, a case just needed to be sent to the GM of SLC. I also got ahold of Meghan (manager at SLC) and she confirmed she would contact the GM to fix the issue. She told me "not to worry and she would make it right".. I just for off the phone with Meghan and received an email from budget in regards to my case. The charges stand... SO I AM STILL BEING CHARGED AN ADDITIONAL $1651!!!! How is this logical? Budget is making an additional $1651 for someone returning a car early so they can rent it out to someone else? You already got all my prepaid money. I accepted that loss of money from prepaying and returning it a couple days early. This entire situation is outrageous.

If I could give this awful company a negative rating I would. I'm not talking about any one specific location, I'm referring to the entire company. The bottom line is this, they just don't care about their customers. I was forced to use them several months ago because we were doing business in a small town and they were the only rental company in this town. We made our reservations in advance, paid upfront and was on time to pick up the car. The agent said they had given our car away and there were no other cars available for the entire weekend. They suggested that we come back another time. The agents at the counter did nothing to try to resolve the issue. When I called their "customer support" number (and I use the term very loosely), they said there was nothing they could do and also told me I should come back another day. When I pushed them, they agreed it was their fault and issued me a voucher for the rental, a voucher that says right on it that there are no restrictions and no blackout days. I tried to used the voucher to rent a car for another business trip upcoming in the next two weeks only to be told that I couldn't use the voucher because the dates are blacked out for the holiday season. I wasted hours on the phone being bounced from one agent to the next, supervisor to supervisor until I finally got "Debbie." Debbie was rude, condescending and told me that Budget was not going to change their rules for me. When I tried to get her to explain why there were suddenly blackout days when it clearly states on my voucher that no blackout dates apply, she said, "I'm not going to repeat myself" and hung up. This is standard operating procedure for this company. Use them at your own risk.

Horrible experience!!!!! The worst!!! I booked an extended SUV 3 weeks before I needed it. I followed up with the manager Derek weekly to confirm that the correct car would be at the correct location upon my arrival. The day before I was to pick it up, I called the store all day and no one ever answered, even though I was well within business hours. I called customer service (she was actually helpful and sympathetic to my situation, the one star goes to her). She let me know that the only extended SUV was in American Fork (like an hour from SLC), she also tried calling the pick up location without success. She had the courtesy to follow up with me before she left for the day, to let me know that the pick up location never answered and to apologize for the inconvenience! After working all day in Sandy, I hurried downtown to try to speak to someone in person. The woman there appeared to be helpful, but it was a big fat lie!!! When I showed up in the morning to pick up the car, not only was it not there, the one from American Fork wasn’t actually on its way. To further the situation, now they refuse to rent me a car because they have made the assumption that I am running a shuttle service and they don’t want to be responsible for that. I’m actually a ski instructor that works for minimum wage!! I am a human, I don’t work for some big company, I communicated well in advance, I paid well in advance and now I’m being denied. This is the worst customer service I have ever experience. This has been a huge waste of time and money. I was trying to save money with Budget, I don’t recommend this strategy, you will pay far more in the end if you take the decision to rent from them.

Avoid this place at all cost! Customer service is awful, they make you wait for no reason and you don't even get the car you pay for. Upon arrival to pick up the car I wait for over 5 minutes at the counter before anyone even acknowledges my presence. They were there and saw me but just continued their chit chat with eachother. I reserved and paid for an upgraded midsize sedan and they gave me 2 door coupe. I thought fine technically it still seats 5 but we will be cramped. We go out to do the walkthrough and i am made to feel that I'm being picky pointing out the dent in the door and several scratches. I wish I was more thorough. Upon returning the car things got much worse. I pull into the lot to return the car and the Christy the only employee working sees me come in and continues out to the lot ignoring my presence. After waiting inside for over 10 minutes I go out and find her in the lot so I can get checked out. I said that I have been waiting inside for someone to help me. She rudely snapped back at me "thats because I'm out here". Now since she was doing me such a big favor for allowing me to return my car it was time to punish me. She searched the car until she could find a flaw that hadn't been noted on the damage report. She found a chip in the windshield on the bottom corner that I know I didn't cause. Looks like we have to take it out of service and charge you for a new windshield she said with glee. Too bad you didn't sign up for our additional coverage. Bottom line, there is a reason this place has a 1 star rating. They consistently treat their customers horribly while ripping them off and wasting their time.

Chose this site (SLC City Center) for better rate than airport but the experience was frustrating from beginning to end. Made a reservation online months ago for same vehicle at higher quoted price. Was able to get a much better deal $1200 vs $790 for two weeks so canceled first reservation and took better price a month before - all that was smooth and quick through Budget Online. When I arrived, agent pulled up and mistakenly filled out the CANCELLED (confirmed) reservation and then wanted me to sign it anyway and dispute price when I returned - of course I refused. She wasn't happy about starting again. She made comment as we left "Bring it back clean!". Hadn't had that as a farewell at a rental counter before... Within 50 miles of starting had oil/service reminders I had to manually dismiss ever time I started it. Key fob reported battery low on second day and had to hold it next to start button to stat car and door unlock was very iffy. The car was returned clean on the outside (we had an inch of rain that day on the way back from Tetons) but with a little gravel and a few small mud spots on the floor mats and a little grass and dust picked up while packing suitcases but no junk left behind/spills etc- not surprising after 2 weeks! She threatened us with a $150 cleaning fee saying " I told you to bring it back clean" saying it would take more than 10 minutes to get it back is service. She said "You should have vacuumed it out before returning". Really? How/Where?? In the end we got back all of our deposit but think I might pay the extra fee to have less confrontational experience at the airport counter next time.

Do not rent from here. They do not do as they say they are going to and my customer service experience here was one of the worst I've had anywhere. When I dropped off my last rental they were short staffed and after waiting for a few min I was told by the only gal working the entire place, to just leave the keys and they would email me my receipt. I told them I was about an about an hour late and wanted to get that squared away. I was told not to worry about it and they wouldn't charge me for being late. Not the case. I never got a receipt and they checked the car in 3 hours after I dropped it off then overcharged me an entire extra day, nearly $50. What killed me was the customer service I received after that. I called them the next day and explained what happened. I was told they would have to "verify my story" even though I told them I had returned it an hour late, and never called me back. I called again a few days later talked to another person told them what happened and they said again they would have to "verify" my story. As if I was making it up. I told them I was being honest and if I need to pay for the extra hour I would gladly do so but they still overcharged me. She insisted on verifying again, and I told them if they didn't fix it I would not be renting from them again, I was then promptly hung up on and was never called back and the issue was never fixed. I will not be renting from this location or Budget ever again and I highly discourage anyone else from doing so.

I had a nightmare renting at Budget Rent a Car in SLC UT-downtown location. But the problem is not only the Salt Lake location--it is also corporate. We rented a van that is supposed to fit 7 people and 3 bags that is supposed to be similar to a Chrysler Town & Country. We waited an HOUR for our rental to even get there. We did not get a van we got a Ford Transit Connect. It may be able to seat 7 people if 5 of the people are small children without car seats. This would be very tight for us. We had a lot of luggage and this van WAS NOT similar to a Town & Country. Because of a convention in town there was nothing left and we were leaving early the next day for a week long road trip so we bit the bullet and kept it. Quite frankly i was tired of the run around we were getting. I could not call the Salt Lake city location direct--we kept getting put in the national queue. And I told my story at least 5 times with NO help at all. We had to go to the Ford dealership to have them help us fold the back seat so we could fit our luggage there. At the dealership we were told that Ford does not make a mini-van anymore. The closest thing is the Ford Transit Connect. I felt like I had been slighted and was charged for something I did not get. They should not be classifying this car as a minivan--it is a glorified cross over. Do not trust them. Also, I left some prescription sunglasses and i called to get help with this. Left a message twice but have not heard back. Poor Poor customer service.

I reserved this car over the holidays and had the full intent of using Budget Bucks to pay for the car. When I arrived to pick up the vehicle I had the budget Bucks in my hand and asked the associate that I wanted to apply them immediately and to make sure it would cover the rental amount. I asked twice and was told not a problem. We will take care of everything when you return the vehicle. Upon renting the vehicle it smelled like bad order and had stains on the upholstery. I was also told I could return it anytime during the day and on the day it was scheduled to be returned. I returned the vehicle 4 days later and immediately was given a hard time about using rental bucks. The sales associate did not know how to input them into the computer and the other sales associate did not know either. Both saying we are an independent dealer and dont ever get them. We had a 3rd associate arrive who was the original woman I rented from and she was very uncooperative and combative with me. It took over an hour to the staff figure out hour the computer system worked and inputting the codes on budget bucks and she tried to charge me for that hour in additional fees for the car rental. They ended up not applying all the rental bucks value and emailed me a receipt. 4 days later I get a call from a woman at the store saying that she couldnt apply some of the other bucks and charged me more money and that I could pick up the ones that she couldnt use. Do not recommend.

This was, hands-down, the worst rental experience I have ever had. I booked a rental car Monday night for a 7 am pick up the next day. I also added insurance through the booking process. We arrived at this location at 7 am promptly, but an employee didn't show up until well after 715. She said she was running late but that she never opens the gate before 730, despite us (and a few other people) having 7am reservations. She finally got the computers and printers up and then we were told THERE WERE NO CARS AVAILABLE. Oh, except a 10-passenger van that I declined because it didn't fit in with our travel destination. She told us to try back at 10am. We tried to call several numbers for Budget, but could never get through to anyone at this particular office. We arrived back at 10 am and, after some confusion with another employee and listening to several additional customers being denied their already-booked vehicles, we were told that we could take the newly returned Renegade, "for no additional cost, so it's like a free upgrade." Also, the employee could not tell me if the insurance I purchased would apply to this vehicle or not, even with the information I had received. Nobody offered an apology or any sort of discount for the incredible mistake made by this office. I will never, ever rent from Budget again. I would warn anyone considering this location to check out every other place in town first.

** RENT AT YOUR OWN RISK!** Had car troubles and needed vehicle. Made reservations online and prepaid $174.00 for a rental. Drove to ticket counter to pick up vehicle. Agent had to run card again, but my bank declined for “fraud alert”. I called my bank from the ticket counter and cleared the hold on my card. Asked agent to run card again, it declined. Possibly not enough tome elapsed for security hold to be lifted? Anyway, decided to rent a vehicle elsewhere, and left cordially. I received a voicemail on my phone about 30 minutes later, from Budget Security Officer Phil Sullivan. He explained how I was so upset that my card declined, I hopped into one of their vehicles ANYWAY and drove off. He left a few ultimatums for me and the vehicle. He explained the police had been called and I had warrants out for my arrest! At the tine, I could not believe it, but there is, in fact, an incident report with the Salt Lake City Police Department! You can imagine our surprise as we drove in our own personal vehicle (looked like a rental maybe?) and we drove around with a vehicle full of children. I have never experienced this type of incompetence in person, have only read the stories. How Phil Sullivan has a job is beyond my comprehension. How this particular Budget Office is still in business in unfathomable. **Rent at your own risk!!!**

Took over a month getting refund. SLC does not accept apple prepay due individually owned but the site accepted payment. Got to airport and was told we have to pay in full again but we wont get discount we had since it’s not considered prepaid anymore. Rep put us to side and helped person behind us giving him the reserved vehicle we had and heard over radio a vehicle we had to settle for different one that was smaller yet still pay same price. Rep gave 1800 number to call for refund. 1800 number told me to contact SLC office since they are individually owned they are supposed to deal with it. After weeks of being sent back and forth, finally got refund but they didn’t do anything about skipping us in line, giving our car to someone behind us, and after hours on phone just trying to get refund. Had to call literally over a dozen times after was told no refund due no show, refund 2-3 days, refund 3-5 days, 5-7, 7-14. Last call was put on hold for over 30 minutes and no one came back to the phone. Each time I called was told under “investigation “ and a supervisor would contact me but not once a supervisor called. I did messenger, called budget main number, SLC number, emailed. Everything.

Prices are good but was quoted one price on the phone got the confirmation email and it was $80 more than he quoted me (on the base price nothing to do with taxes) Called back the next day after I got the email and transferred 3 times and told they couldn't do a thing about it. It was still a little cheaper than the other guys so I decided to keep the reservation anyway. The pick up was scheduled for 7am get there just before 7am and no employees showed up till 7:15am the sign on the gate out front says they open at 7:30 am and website and corporate told me 7am. Employee tries to get things opened and tells us 3 customers in the lobby there is no cars for us until later this afternoon. We were renting a minivan and the ONLY car she had was a 10 passenger van. Being we were already late I had no choice to take it but now our gas mileage will definitely go up for our trip!! The employee was not very happy or helpful and just repeated not so nicely "sorry, sorry, sorry" like ten times. Not a sincere sorry but a "this is all your getting sorry " Now we are finally on the road way late let's just hope someone is way more helpful upon returning!! Frustrating start to our trip!!!

This is the WORST car rental experience I have ever had. The employee was 15 min late to her shift making the place not even open until 7:30ish. The corporate official open time was 7am even though the sign said 7:30am at the car place. We had a rental for 7am and there was no cars available for pick-up. How is this even possible? You shouldn't be able to even book a car if there is not one available. This is incredibly unprofessional and unacceptable. Kris was extremely rude and didn't do anything to make us feel like we had a choice. She refused to comp us a percentage or even give us a reason why we had no car. We came back 3 hours later only to fight for a rental coming in and was told we were "given an upgrade of a car" even though there were no other cars to get. Many people were having the same issue; this place needs a reality check that this isn't an acceptable way to operate. I called corporate to give a formal complaint and never received confirmation that it was recorded. This apparently is a franchised location which means you can't get discounts through corporate. DO NOT EVER RENT FROM HERE- terrible service, terrible company, and terrible management.

Last summer my parents planned a road trip to California. We had reserved a rental through Budget which was a Chevy Suburban. This reservation was made 3 months in advance. However, the day we were leaving happened to also be one of the days of a huge event in town, so Budget, instead of keeping our rental, they gave it away to some people coming from out of town. They tried offering us this massive van instead (which was probably someone else's rental waiting for them) but we decided to get a refund from them and search for another company. Every suburban in town was gone at the moment and we almost cancelled our trip. Luckily we found another rental company that told us some Ford Expeditions (cars similar to Suburbans) were coming in the next morning. Managed to get a nice rental from them and they were great about it. Now, that company was able to do what Budget had three months for overnight. Budget is seriously messed up. And by looking at the other reviews, my family isn't the only one to suffer from this. It almost makes me want to get a job at this place to help out the people they're constantly ripping off and throwing in the trash.

MICHELLE WAS INCOMPETENT AND RUDE!!!! We reserved 16' truck and flew to Utah to move son home from college. They had a 26' truck, pulled it up to the curb and started to write it up, but when we said we'd rented a 16', she suddenly said it was reserved for someone else, so we didn't have a truck. She offered no alternatives, except to call the 1-800 number. Why didn't SHE call ?!?!? What about OUR reservation? We'd gotten a good rate through Costco for a Budget truck, so we were trying to get them to honor the reservation we'd made. After literally hours of being on the phone and getting the run around.....a story too long and crazy to even post, we took Lyft to UHaul where we had to pay more for a smaller truck, but at least got one and they were fast & professional. We had been trying hurry to beat an incoming storm. We ended up having to load in the dark and drive in a snow storm because we wasted so much time with Budget. And when we left town at 8:30pm, there was the 26' truck she said someone else was picking up....still sitting in their parking lot.

1st time to Salt Lake City...rental car experience at the airport was horrible, we finally canceled there and took Uber to the Budget downtown. We was guaranteed on the phone through the 800 number that the suv we needed was there. We arrive and there is not a single car there...what was turning out to be a terrible experience was quickly turned around because of Michelle and her professionalism...she went above her duties and put us in a 15 passenger van because it was all they had, this offer allowed us to make our appointment on time for that day, and we came back the next day and picked up the suv. I want to thank Michelle for being so helpful...this was completely different then the Budget at the airport. We was told go over and have a seat, your car is being washed...and an hour later it was still being “washed”...there was now over 20 people waiting on their cars...all being “washed”. We was not being told the truth and there was no communication. Again thank you Michelle for helping us get the start of our trip to Utah going in the right direction.

This is the best place to rent a car in salt lake city! The class of cars that they have are unmatched, they have a fleet that you won't find at ANY other rental place. For example, I have rented several vehicles from then ranging from a 465hp Dodge Charger Scat Pack, Chevy Corvette, and am currently driving a BRAND NEW Ram Power Wagon (it's a $60,000 truck) these are not base model rental cars! And the price is unbeatable compared to Enterprise. Also the people at the downtown location are amazing! Addett, the manager, is the best and will go above and beyond to help you with whatever you need! I see a lot of reviews complaining about the staff and the wait time.... I have been in the building when some of these people are there and the staff are ALWAYS trying to help and it always seems to be poor planning on the customers part! Don't show up 2 hours after your reservation time and expect them to bend over backwards to solve your time crunch. This is the best place to rent a car bar none!!

At first I was going to rate these guys 5 stars because when I arrived to pick up my car they informed me they didn’t have any basic enconomy cars left so they would give me a free upgrade to a Toyota Tacoma which I thought was pretty awesome. What did it for me though was when I returned the truck. I had asked for a military discount when I first picked up the truck and they said they would input the notes for when I returned it the manager would adjust my rate. Long story short I ended up paying the full amount so I contacted customer service after multiple failed attempts to contact that office. After weeks of waiting for customer service to get back to me with the details of what had happened they determined since I got the truck at a discounted rate I shouldn’t be receiving a military discount. My original reservation wasn’t even for the truck but for a car. So it’s not my fault they offered to let me have a reservation for a car they didn’t have. NEVER RENTING FROM HERE AGAIN.

Don’t go there! We reserved a moving truck with a full sized dolly last week to ensure we could get it. We called today (Saturday, May 19th) to confirm our reservation. The national call center said we were good to go. Then we read all the bad reviews- a bit backwards I know. The number given to us to call this specific location just called the national call center again. So we decided to drive there and know for sure. The lady there said we MAY get a truck on the day we scheduled. That’s not even a for sure thing. We leave on Monday May 21st. We can’t do maybe. Also when asked about the dolly she didn’t give us a straight answer so my guess is that they didn’t have that there either. Also, there was a guy in front of us that was having issues with the moving truck he reserved and a couple that had issues with car rental too. We ended up canceling our reservation and going to Home Depot for a Penske truck. Paid $20 more but a guaranteed truck will be there. You’ve been warned!

NEVER RENT FROM HERE!!!! THEY DUPE YOU!! I am not allowed to give no star but that is my actual review. I rented a pre-paid car from them at $373.72 rate. Once I reached the center, I was told that my credit card or any credit card insurance isn't accepted here, which is always accepted everywhere else I rented. So either I had present an insurance from insurance company or buy insurance from them for $388.67 or else I can't rent the car and I can't even get my pre-paid amount back. So I was forced to buy insurance from them.... I have struggled over a period of 1.5 months to dispute this since I later got to know that they haven't mentioned anything about not accepting credit card insurance anywhere, additionally there was another option to pay additional $1500 in deposit without the need to buy insurance which I wasn't informed about either. After 1.5 months of struggle they didn't resolve the issue and kept on circling me around from one person to another.

I have always loved Budget and found them to be honest. The Internet says Budget is as low as $10.95 a day. Went onto the website and could not figure out how to make that happen. It kept coming up about $34 a day and required an intermediate car. All I need is an economy. I travel alone. So I called Budget, twice. Both times I was told the $10.95 does not exist or is only a summer offer. Duh...it is summer. I asked them for the formula to get the special rate because I can travel at will and there was no formula or way to capture the special rate. The lowest rates they had before tax was $33. So, do I hear a 'BAIT AND SWITCH.' I did not expect that of Budget. Color me disappointed in what I thought was a great company. And if it is other companies offering the deals under the Budget banner than Budget should make them honor it or expose the formula It is wrong to throw out a hook to get someone and then not even have the offer available.

Total scam artists. Rented a car through my Costco card for $25.99/day. Started with a 2 day rental. When I went down to return the car, I inquired about keeping the car for additional time. I was told I would be able to maintain the daily rate that was originally established. It was cheaper than taking a Lyft/Uber, so I renewed several times over the next 2 weeks. At no point during any of the multiple interactions I had with this company, did anyone ever tell me that my rate would be changing. Well, when I brought the car back 2 weeks later, they charge me nearly DOUBLE, 311.88/week. (25.99/7 days= 181.00) Don't trust what the staff tells you. They are usually overwhelmed(I went down there at several times) There seems to be a lot of turn over and management does a terrible job of training. Also be aware this is a independent location. You will zero recourse through the Budget corporation.

We’ve been renting a car here for almost 2 years. They’ve been good so we kept coming back. But for the last 2 reservations we are upset by how their system in the reservation part is going bad making the people or the employee rather upfront face the consequences. For the last 2 reservations we made there is no car available and we have to go back making our plans adjusted to a later part of the day. I appreciate the employees for the 2 locations we have been for making an effort to let us know what was happening and finding the right solution for the problem. I am upset that the employees were working hard and people who dont understand were yelling at them because of the reservation system part. I hope that the owner or the management will do something on their reservation system and coordinate how many cars and trucks they have so it wont be fully booked and avoid any inconvenience.

I wouldn’t recommend this place. I went to get my car rental and they required a credit card. I then went and got a credit card from my bank. I came back and they said my card kept getting declined. I told them well I just the got card. It’s brand new and there’s $500 available on the card. They then tell me it’s fine, they’ll go ahead and use my debit card. Really? I just spent an hour getting a new credit card. So then they ask me if I have rental included in my auto insurance. I said yes and showed them my declaration and then they told me because my old address on my ID didn’t match my current address on my declaration page I couldn’t rent a car. The fact that they were lenient when they wanted to be and then decided not to let me rent a car after wasting 3 hours of my time is ridiculous. I would not recommend them! I then went to hertz and had NO ISSUES. DO NOT GO HERE!

I had one of the worst experiences in this budget rental ever. I made a reservation for a 15 person van. Walked into the place and got told that all the vehicles were taken. I tried to explain that I had a reservation. The clerk actually told me that I was not their on time so I was not able to get my vehicle. Mind I stood in line for 20 mins. She wanted to go home and was very rude to everyone within the lobby. She would not even look into my reservation but called her manager and told him that they did not have any cars. Supposedly he told her to tell us to leave if we didn't have any car. I had to call Budget back to change my reservation to get one at the airport because this location would not even look at my reservation. The worst customer service ever. I do believe that the staff should not have multi colored hair. NOT professional especially on a 40 year old woman.

Neither pictures, invoices, or tangible evidence is enough to negotiate claims with this budget office. I rent cars every week for work. Despite being a loyal customer, I was taken advantage of by this location. After being told the attached picture was going to need a repair, a full replacement was ordered without inspection resulting in a $430 charge instead of the expected $60-70. What's worse is customer service lied to me every step of the process beyond the point where it wasn't worth any more of my or my companies time (Auto glass inspection determined replacement = lie, the chip started cracking the moment I left their shop after zero change for a week of driving= lie). On top of this duplicity, Budget has the nerve to mark-up the replacement cost 46%. Don't be like me, read and take heed other people's horrible reviews of this location before doing business here.

If i could give 0 stars i would!!! I’ve rented Budget 4 times and 3 out of the 4 times I’ve had bad experiences. All 3 times I’ve booked weeks in advance, called days in advance to make sure car would be available, only to show up to pick up and not have the car (full-size SUV) available. So frustrating and the lady helping me is no help at all! Even with a prepaid reservation!!!!!! I couldn’t get a car!!! The lady said she can transfer my reservation to airport but I don’t have a credit card to rents from airport and on top of that if I found someone to rent with their credit card we’ll have to pay full price AGAIN even though I’ve already prepaid! WORST SERVICE EVERRRR! I’ve rented Enterprise for yearsssss and only issues I ever have with them is them being sold out and that’s the only reason why I go to budget and I won’t be choosing them anymore!!!

I certainly appreciate how hard it is to get a rental car nowadays. I was in a situation where I had to get a rental car on short notice (car repair) And I was able to book one at the budget in downtown Salt Lake. I live out in the suburbs so it entailed coming downtown. When I was about 10 minutes away I got a call saying that I would need to be put on a waiting list because of their lack of cars. So I went in anyhow anticipating that I might be waiting 3 to 5 hours to get a car. Thanks to the Herculean effort Of the person behind the counter (Michelle) I was able to get a car much soon. It has been a long time since I've had such great customer service. I have been a platinum tier member of enterprise for years. But this alone would be enough to have me look at budget more frequently. Kudos to Michelle she was a customer service superstar.

We showed up the day before Thanksgiving with spur of the moment vacation plans and quickly realized with one look at the long line that we probably should have made a reservation. However, Michelle took INCREDIBLE care of us. Though we did have to wait quite a while for everyone with reservations to get through, she continued to check in on us while we waited to let us know that she had an idea and that she hadn't forgotten about us. We ended up getting the last vehicle in their lot - a brand new mustang and at a completely affordable price. We also noticed Michelle know the names of multiple repeat customers that walked through the door. This gal's service was second to none, despite the fact it was past closing time and the night before Thanksgiving. Request Michelle if you're renting from Budget at the downtown location!!!

Cars not usually as clean and well prepared as Hertz but pricing is much better. Always follow up if you book online to make sure they know you are coming. Update: April 2018. Tried to rent from them, I booked and prepaid online like I always do. I get there and they insist that I must provide a visa card, even though I've already paid in full for my days. Then they want 2 proofs of my address.. then, it's getting good now, they want a letter from my insurance etc etc.. I couldn't produce all if this with the time I had available to get going. They refused to let me take the car "new policy". I call budget and find that this place is privately owned and can make up stuff as they go. I leave and get a car from my local Nissan dealership for half the price. I finally get my money back. I'll not be renting from them again.

Is there a way to give negative start? This place is the worst for car rental. After online booking, I could not get a live person for customer service with several calls. The night before my rental day, I got a call back saying there's not car available for me until 11 AM next day. I went to the location next morning at 7 AM but the gate is locked although the sign said opens at 7 AM. I waited until 7:50 AM and the gate is still closed. I had to go to Avis for another rental. Although they are the same company, Avis had much better customer service! I wonder how this place was run and doing business even survived to bear the company's name. I hope the parent company would investigate their business. If you plan to rent a car from this location, please read all the low ratings. They are real!!!

I travel frequently from SLC to LGB and have been for over ten years. I have always used national rental cal but recently I decided to shop around because their prices were getting much higher. I decided to give budget a try and rented a car from you on 6/8. Unfortunately, I needed to modify my reservation to 6/9 (just one day later) and returning the same time. I was told the cost would be and extra $250 because there was only one car avaliable. OK...thats still one car. Give me the other car or give me the current car I reserved. NOPE. I asked for a refund and to add insult to injury, because I prepaid there was a $150 cancellation fee. I WILL NEVER EVER RENT A CAR FROM YOU GUYS EVER AGAIN. AND I WILL TELL ALL MY FRIENDS AND FAMILY TO NEVER GO WITH BUDGET. RENT A HORSE INSTEAD!!!

We reserved a vehicle before our ski trip, and when we arrived at the desk they did not have the vehicle clean and we had to sit and wait for 40 minutes while they cleaned the vehicle. When we finally were able to drive away, we got 20 minutes down the road and were called multiple times by the employees telling us we had to turn around in the mountain pass we were driving through because they had made us sign the wrong form. After telling them we were more than happy to sign a new form online or over email once we had made it to our destination they refused and threatened to report the vehicle as stolen. We turned around and headed back and were not even given the vehicle for free after all of our trouble. Use any possible other rental company in Utah if you have the chance.

Absolutely the best place to rent a car in SLC. I live 30 minutes away from this location and rent frequently. I pass so many rental car agencies on my way to the downtown location. First of all the quality of cars is better than anywhere else in town. If you rent a Charger, its either a Hemi or a GT, not a stripped down model like their competitors. Same goes for all their other makes and models. The cars are just cars without the excellent service. Derek the manager will always go above and beyond to make sure every detail of the rental experience is perfect. He will even give you his personal contact details should you need them. Brittany and Khadija are also top notch. The all work under high stress, extremely busy circumstances and they all kill it. Only place to rent.!

Made the reservation last week. Confirmed Tuesday for Thursday pick up. Vehicle was not available. Same thing happened to another guy in line. They had the requested vehicle, but with minor damage, would not release it without authorization from someone that would not answer the phone or return the call. Of course, this was after waiting for ten minutes inside at the desk with NO ONE inside the building. And, buyer beware, they will ask if you have flown in flew in within 24 hours, they will charge you the airport tax at this location. We rent vehicles all over the country from all different companies and have never been asked that question before. If less than one star could be given, it would have been. The hassle is not worth the few dollars in savings.

Fool me once shame on you, fool me twice shame on me. This is the second time I have rented from this location and the second time they have completely dropped the ball. I chalked the first time issues up to Christmas rush, but the second time I came to pick up an SUV that I reserved months ago and was told they didn't have anything for me. They offered me a down grade to a small car or to charge me a large sum for an upgrade. No. I want what I ordered, or at least needed them to cover the cost of an upgrade because they messed up. Thankfully a neighboring location had one in stock, but this location is useless. Picking up and dropping off I experienced horrible customer service and very long wait times. Do yourself a favor and find another rental place.

I do not recommend renting from or working with this place! This was a drop off location for a rental car I had picked up in Arizona. I’ve never had such a horrible experience in my life! The employee never actually returned the vehicle that I brought back on the scheduled day and time. I have thousands of dollars pending on my credit card and budget corporate saying their is no way for them to find the car or figure out what happened. And shocking but you can’t call this store directly to get them to fix what their employee did! And really how bad can a business be when you don’t even notice an extra car on your lot! This experience has been a nightmare, never again will I rent from budget and definitely don’t recommend you go near this location!

This was by far the absolute worst experience I've ever had with any business. I was fraudulently charged $300 extra by the woman at the front desk after she told me she was charging much less to my card. When she didn't give me anything to sign and tried to hurry me out the door I asked what she had charged to my card. She told me it was all on the receipt. I said no, what amount did you put on my card? She finally admitted to charging way more than she told me she was going to, and then refused to do anything but repeat to me that I need to call customer service. I've tried multiple times to get a manager on the phone but all the messages have had no response. Do not ever use Budget they are completely incompetent and unprofessional.

They hide their fees. There is no up front declaration of add-on fees. Made the reservation on-line but wasn't told I would need have additional insurance coverage. Spent a half hour calling my insurance provider standing at the front desk. Why wouldn't you provide a warning or notice that insurance coverage would be needed at the time of making the on-line reservation? I could have called my insurer in the comfort of my home. After that, they failed to tell me there would be a charge to have someone other than me drive. That's the kind of deceptive practice that should get Budget fined. I will never use Budget for anything ever again. I may pay slightly more with others but at least they won't practice shenanigans and scum-baggery.

Bait and switch! I had a minivan reserved. Had held that reservation for a month. When we got there they said there were no minivans available. Not anywhere in the valley either. They offered us another vehicle that had enough seating but absolutely no room for storage for 6 people for the same price. We were forced to upgrade so that we could fit our luggage. But they wouldn't waive their upgrade fee. The next two people behind us had also reserved a minivan and we're told the same thing. The employee at the counter was rude and quite unhelpful. The whole process took 3 hours longer and by the time we got on the road we were so far behind schedule that we missed our lodging reservation. Terrible customer service!

Read previous reviews so was a little apprehensive as I was on a tight schedule and needed to get going as soon as possible but everything went very smooth. The exact car I had reserved was sitting up front and was ready to go. I did call the budget service line the night before to confirm that I would be picking up the car the following day. Pick up and drop off where both quick, 10-15 min at most both times. The car was brand new with only 130 miles on it. Only things I can maybe criticize was the exterior of the car was a bit dirty and the employees don't seem to wear any type of budget uniform so it's hard to identify who works there but those are minor issues at best. My overall experience was very good.

Had reserved a Mustang convertible weeks in advance. Day of rental they confirmed my car was there. Got there at time of reservation but..of course my vehicle was not there. Sam tried to get me to take a 2 seat Fiat. We needed a three person person vehicle. Found out they gave my vehicle to another customer. I was forced to take 7 seat Chevy. The gas millage was terrible. They could not care less about their customers. Our trip through California wine country was not the same. The location manager, Addett said she I was due a price concession. Guess what... still have not received it. Woun't return phone calls or emails. They lied to me so many times can't list them all here. Avoid this location at all cost.

HORRIBLE experience with no customer service follow up, If I could give them zero stars I would! Rented a car thru Expedia and midnight before our car rental we get a phone call message saying they don’t have any cars available and they will contact us when one is available. Late in the afternoon on the day we were supposed to rent the car we called and couldn’t speak to a live person. Left a voice mail and their message said we will get back to you in one business day. The next afternoon we call again and their message then said we will get back to you in four business days. We are now leaving Salt Lake and never received a call back nor a car rental from Budget. WORST CAR RENTAL EXPERIENCE EVERE!!!!

I would not recommend anyone rent a vehicle from these crooks. I reserved a car from the SLC Budget at 235 W, 500 S. Not only did they not have the type of car I wanted, but they ended up providing a vehicle with expired registration. I had to spend over an hour waiting while they drove to the airport to get updated tags. Secondly, I had the misfortune of driving over a nail. The person who helped me said it was an easy $10 to $20 fix. However, I get charged for a brand new tire and the shipping of said tire from NV. Plus a $50 administrative fee. I imagine that extra administrative fee is added just to steal just a little bit more from me. Never do business with Budget.

Do not rent a car here! This location is a FRANCHISE, which apparently means that they operate under different rules than every other Budget rental location. We made a reservation for a mini van and when we called, were told it was ready for us to pick up. When we arrived, we were then told that because it's a franchise, they don't keep the cars on location and had just sent a staff member to the airport-- more than a 20 minute round trip away-- to get the car that was supposed to have been ready when we arrived. A full hour after we arrived, the car was finally ready for us. I will not be renting from this location-- or any other franchise, for that matter-- again.

I had the worst experience with Budget. From the beginning. I booked ahead of time paid up front and they gave me the run around when I tried to change the pickup and drop off time by 1 hour. Then after I took the car back, with a full tank and no damage they charged my card an extra $101.00. I've been trying to dispute it and no one seems to know why I was charged an additional fee. I've been sent to different departments and had emails back and forth. Now they're saying it's because they had to add gas which is incorrect I stopped and filled up literally right before I dropped off. I will never use this place again and I'll be sure I tell others not to go here.

Extreme lack of customer service. The checkout guy was speaking so fast it was hard to understand. Told me I'd have to wait an hour for my car but they had a less expensive car that was available now so I agreed. And then when I return the car they charged me an extra 25$ a day!!! They will try to scam you out of all your money and it's obvious they care so little about their customers. Expect them to blame any damage on the car on you even if it was there before cause that's how shady the company is. Nice cars overall but the lack of customer service and complicated checkout process (having to deny all these other features) will make me never return.

We made a reservation for a cargo van a month in advanced for a one way trip. We arrived today at our reservation time and were told they had no vans available. The woman at the front seemed irritated with us for even asking about it lol after calling around to other locations (who also did not have any vans) they gave us a number to call. Turns out, there aren’t any cargo vans available within the state i wish they would have, at the very least, given us a courtesy call of some sorts to let us know there weren’t any vans. So now we’re left scrambling to find another rental service on an extremely short notice, we leave in 2 days

I always go to Budget because they have the best cars and the best service. Michelle helped me out last weekend and was very expedient and professional. I have rented about three times from the Salt Lake downtown location, and I always got brand new, clean, nice cars. I decided to give it 4/5 stars because you have to bring your own proof of insurance if you do not purchase it through Budget.com when you reserve, but the website does not tell you that! Also, it is difficult to reach them by phone: it seems that when you call the number it redirects you to automated customer service call. Other than that, this place is wonderful.

If you have loads of time to waste, the guy there will waste it for you (almost gleefully). Spent large amounts of time doing god knows what. Condescending to us and the people before us. Didn’t know what were we’re renting while looking at our reservation. Didn’t explain anything about the truck we were renting (I had no idea what DEF was). The lady there looked to be very prompt and helpful. Although she did not end up assisting us, I wish I went with my gut and waited for her to be available. It would have still been quicker. DMV sloths are a given, but this guy should not be working in the service industry.

Seriously spend a little more money & get a MUCH better customer service literally anywhere else. We spent hours being passed around on the phone to various call centers when we just needed to talk to this location about extending our rental a couple more days. Also, their website didn’t work. Also, anticipate spending at least an hour there when you go for pick up; even though I was only the second person in line it took over 45 mins to just get some assistance from the one & only employee who was working the entire operation (but he assured me it’s fine working solo because he gets all the commission haha)

We had a horrible experience here. We reserved a car, showed up and were told that they didn't have any cars and didn't know when they would get them. They said there were 10 people in front of us waiting for cars so we would have to wait for a while. They said they could not even give us a discount because they had cars on the lot, even though they did not know where they were or when they were going to be there. For the same reason they were no able to help us get a rental from another company either. National budget office was no help either. Definitely will not be renting with budget inter future.

Yet another bad review about Michelle! I rented a moving truck last week and when I returned it she wanted to charge me 100 miles on a 20 miles trip!! Today, I returned another truck that I rented yesterday. Unfortunately, Michelle was there and charged me 72 miles on a 40 miles trip. She refused to process the refund and told me to call customer service and let them know about the discrepancy. I asked her to call them and explain, but she turned rude and refused to do it. How dishonest! I even took pictures of the odometer and have the documentation from yesterday showing the miles. This is insane.

I had a reservation for a vehicle. The employee charged my card, then deposited the money back on my card, then continues to tell me my card was declined and now they won’t accept my card for 24 hours. I showed the employee my bank statement, showing the charge, then showing it was deposited back into my account. My bank verified that, and stated they never blocked the charge. I don’t have another card, and now I’m carless. I’ve tried 10 other car rental places, and everywhere is sold out for the weekend. My trip is canceled, and the hotel isn’t going to refund me. Thank you Budget.

I originally didn't purchase insurance for my rental truck, but the lady at the counter convinced me to buy it (an additional $200) by saying that it was charged per day and that if we returned the truck early then we wouldn't be charged for the days we didn't use and thus it would only be an extra $100. This was a lie and we were charged the full $200. Don't believe them when they tell you prices on insurance. The truck we received was dirty and beat up. Still cheaper than other rental companies, which is why I gave them 2 stars instead of one, but be warned about their insurance.

I will never ever rent a truck from here ever. I made a reservation three days ago for a 16 foot truck. I get there today to pick it up and both 16 foot trucks they have are dead. One they couldn’t get started, the other had a flat tire. I asked to be upgraded to a bigger truck and they all have check engine lights. What is the remedy you may ask? They told me to drive multiple cities away without reimbursing them the mileage difference for their fault. And they are trying to charge five times more money for the same insurance coverage that U-Haul does. I will never be back.

After a frustrating rental experience at the Budget Rental at Salt Lake Airport, I stopped into this downtown location. I was greeted by Michelle and I explained my issue with my current rental. She went above and beyond to make sure I was satisfied with my rental for my family vacation to Yellowstone. She exchanged my vehicle and provided one that literally changed our trip. My family couldn’t have been more satisfied with the exchange. Considering I travel to Salt Lake frequently, I’m planning to Uber to this location from the airport for my future car rentals.

I had a reservation at 6 PM and arrived 10 minutes early, only to find linda visibly stressed and in a rush to close up. Despite having a reservation, she claimed she couldn’t find it and insisted that I leave and return on Monday, which is absolutely absurd. It’s as if customer service takes a backseat the moment the clock nears closing time. Why take a reservation for the exact time you close if you can’t honor it? This whole experience felt like a slapdash operation more concerned with clocking out than customer satisfaction. Definitely won’t be returning.

Absolutely some of the worst customer service I've ever experienced from a company. I could (and have) overlooked it once or twice, but the last SIX times we've attempted to rent from here they have effed us over on the car or simply stated they have nothing left. Again, if they could do this with any grace or offer to help locate a car at another location it could be chalked up to bad luck, but they are always extremely rude about it as well and whine when we ask them to do their effing jobs. Absolutely done with this entire company for good today.

The craziest lady in the world manages this place. She told me my reserved moving truck was no longer available when I showed up to pick it up. I told her she needed to find me some sort of moving truck since I had hired movers and had a whole crew showing up that morning. She made it clear she would do no such thing and then that witch added a $50 no show fee. I went in a few days later and told them they needed to remove the no-show fee and they flat-out refused and claimed I never came in there and argued with them in the lobby for 15 minutes.

We reserved a car in February for the Eclipse week in August. When we arrived our car was there for us and we were even offered an upgrade. The check in was quick and smooth the car was perfect. The guys in the garage even moved a vehicle so that it was easier for us to pull out of the garage. Returning the vehicle was equally simple and pleasant. I found everyone at Budget Salt Lake City Airport friendly, knowledgeable and eager to assist. I am surprised by some of the poor reviews as our experience was GREAT! I would recommend them to anyone!!

The people were nice enough, but their definition of a midsize car was different than mine and the car they gave us had a check engine light on. They said it was just for oil, but I had no way to verify that or see if any other issues came up. All in all it was a cheap rental that made me realize why I am okay paying more for a different company. If you are looking for a cheap car and dont care what you get, this would be a great choice. If the type of car is important than pay the extra for other companies to guarantee you get what you want.

HORRIBLE. Don't rent from Budget Rental of Utah. Anyone else has to be better. They're over-worked and under-staffed so it's no surprise that customer service suffers. I made three back-to-back reservations and it was non-stop headaches. They double billed me on one of the 3 rentals and only credited me back the lower of the two. And one rental, I mistakenly added coverage that we declined on the other two rentals. No surprise, they won't credit me back for the mistake claiming "rules." Well, my new rule is DON'T RENT FROM BUDGET of UTAH.

We reserved our SUV for our ski trip a couple weeks in advance. When we arrived we were told that they didn't need to honor a reservation and all SUV's were taken. They didn't have any in stock. Candida Lopez was very helpful in finding a way to get us an SUV. She got on the phone and made it happen with her manager. There was another co-worker with her that was rude and didn't want to help. He was just like "sorry" we can't find you a car. And then proceeded to tell us that we were rude and demanding. Luckily Candida saved the day.

Please never do business with them! We lost a whole vacation day trying to extend our rental or drop it off at another location. We just couldn't do it. It is almost impossibe to talk to someone and when you do, the line cuts off or they don't know what to do with a simple request. Nobody can help you. We tried exactly 18 different numbers but ended up each time at the same place, with no one capable of helping us. We left 5 messages in 2 days, no call back. Even if you think you found a good deal... you did not! Avoid at all cost.

the car that i saw online for my booking was not even close to what they gave us, also they didn't tell us to bring requirement documents due to our driver license is out of state, but they just told us when we got there, so we ended up paying for the extra fees. Another thing, they didn't clean the ice stuck on the car and they expect us to do it, but my husband just got out of dialysis and can't do it because of his health and for me, i don't have the strength either. Very bad experience and will never rent from you guys again!

Customer service reps were not knowledgeable on policy or procedures took 30 minutes to check out car and a hour to check in. Reps didn't even know how to work the system or read the screen. They were shouting out numbers on the refund for the deposit that didn't make any sense. When I asked them if they knew what they were doing they said oh sorry they don't train us on that. Flat out refused to call a manager and then wanted to blame me for a rock chip when I had only driven the car 55 miles in 5 days and never on the freeway.

Complete scam. Budget will try to trick you into paying them money. They lied to me about the insurance I’d have to pay for my car, were obtuse about extending my rental and trapped me in the lot and would not let me leave to go fill up the tank before returning the car. Do not rent from budget Utah, ever. Even if the price is cheap, they’ll get you on other ways. The company is really poorly run. There is no customer service number and it’s impossible to call a budget Utah location. Just do yourself a favor and rent elsewhere.

We booked a rental car online the night before and the moment we are about to get the car, the lady said there are no cars available. She said that their system continually accepts reservation even though their are no cars available and asks us to call customer service if we have complains or wanted a refund which will mess up our itinerary. I hope they will fix the system and be truthful if there are no cars available in the parking lot. It will be wise to book few days ahead because they will prioritize early bookings.

Helpful staff. Arrived near the location for return after 2 week rental with plenty of time for return ( 40 minutes early). GPS could not get us to the actual location for some reason. Called Budget corporate for help. Put in phone tree. Trouble getting help. Ended up being 30 minutes late. Employee at the store apologized, though not his fault, thanked us for washing the car before we returned it, and fixed the check in so we didn't have to pay extra for being overtime. This kind of thing makes for loyal customers.

I enjoyed this location. They gave me a great car (decent gas mileage). But, still a car that I enjoyed driving for the weekend. Anyway, they were very kind. I was told that the fee for younger drivers was waived, however, when I returned it, it didn't get waived. The worker said he would talk to his boss when he came in and they got it fixed. They were also way cheaper than the airport location. I would highly recommend this place if you're able to get to downtown if you're coming from the airport.

At the time of payment they did quite the opposite :( SHAME on this company for taking advantage of us and the others they have scammed!! Heather at the downtown rental location is wonderful. There was an issue of miscommunication with my reservation and when I showed up to the SLC location, after being told my reservation was at different locations (that claimed to know nothing) she was able to provide me a car and was happy to help. I am so thankful she was there and was able resolve the issue, and get me on my way in a great car! Thank you Heather and I will definitely rent from you again!

Michelle is a superstar, she turned, what started out as a terrible experience, completely around. I would recommend this place only because Michelle is a great asset to this location. I booked my reservation 8 to 10 weeks in advance, only to show up and be told that the vehicle wasn't available. With no other option I accepted Michelle's offer I will never do business with Budget again. Their business model involving independent locations makes no sense.

This place is the best rental location in Salt Lake City. If you want the best selection of vehicles that are not just cheap base models then Budget is the place. This location has ALWAYS come through for me and I’ve been a customer for 6 years. Derek the manager at this location is fantastic and always helps me out even with very last minute reservations. He’s one of the reasons I continue to book with this specific location. Highly recommend!

Made a reservation a month in advance for a moving truck, and tow dolly to tow my car. Get a call less than 24 hours before moving across country that they won’t have my tow dolly. After multiple phone calls with customer service they advised they found one, and will have it brought to the location. Upon my arrival the next morning I’m told that no tow dolly is available, delaying my cross country move and no attempts to rectify the situation.

Worst rental experience ever. We came in from out of town with a reservation; they were all out of cars. As if that was bad enough, The service rep was extremely rude. She ignored us. Someone came in behind us to return a moving truck and she went out to help him. She just told us there were no cars and wanted us to go away. We still have no car. She even had copies of customers drivers licenses spread out on the main counter for all to see.

Staff at the 235 W 500 location in Salt lake were accommodating and helpful. We had a reservation and when the truck that we wanted was not there it was met with an upgrade without hesitation. This was a seamless transaction and keeping for an extra day and changing the dropoff to the airport was not problem at all. Budget gets my business going forward on any personal or business trip. Good lord. I tried this place cause it was close to my location, but wow. Terrible service. My reservation online did not have any correct information. $500 deposit, plus the $350 for 2 days for just a basic vehicle? Plus the guy there said he couldnt even help me out with a few bucks cause it was over my credit card max by $30. What a terrible place for service. First and last time I try Budget!!!

Bunch of scammers running a company . They lie to your face about how much insurance costs and then refuse refund. Avoid this place, the office smells like a horse stable. I'm sure the employees here don't shower. I know it gets cold in Salt Lake but have some basic hygiene. They give out trucks without locks, the trucks are filthy !! Long overdue on service. I hope this company shuts down soon .

This location has a lot of negative reviews, and I was VERY hesitant to book a car here, but I actually had a great experience. The car I requested was ready when I needed it (although they were still vacuuming it out when I came outside). Checking in and dropping off were really easy and didn't take more than 5-10 minutes each time. The staff were all friendly to me and I had no problems at all.

Great, friendly customer service. The manager Derek arranged for Michelle To came in on Sunday, her day off, to open the store so that we could pick up the van we needed to rent. It saved us a day of vacation waiting until Monday and staying over night in a hotel an extra night. The van was great, low miles and clean. Thank- you For the extra effort. A great experience all the way around.

I called on a Saturday and reserved a van. Upon arriving, there were no vans. No vans at all. I then called their Customer Service line to cancel my reservation and make sure I wasn't charged the $75 fee for canceling my order because of their mistake. They said "not a problem, you won't be billed". I was then billed the $75 for cancelling. I would never recommend this place to anyone.

Poor customer service! I booked my reservation online, when I returned my rental & closed out my rental ticket the amount that was charged to my account was more than it should have been. The clerk that closed my ticket said he couldn’t do anything & that the manager would call me the next day to resolve the problem. I’m still waiting for the call. I’ll NEVER rent from Budget again!!

Got an upgrade since they didn't have what I booked. But they added extra $20 that was not on the initial quote (this was not taxes). They had a good selection of cars. But Charged me $35 for a $10 windscreen repair. But next time I will definately avoid this car rental. I have used budget in the past and was a great experience. But next time I will be definately going to Enterprise.

I'm actually surprised by some of the past reviews on here. Fast service and very pleasant people at the front desk to help me and answer all my questions. My mid size car wasn't available, but my other options were far superior to the car I had originally booked. Wouldn't hesitate renting from them again and sooo much more convenient that going all the way out to the airport.

First, I freaked out when I found that the place had negative feedback, because I had booked my car already. Well, I want to say that I had a very pleasant experience at this rental location. My car was ready at the time I arrived and I was able to pick it up 15 minutes before my pickup time. Drop off also went really smoothly. The personnel were really nice and helpful.

Vehicle was dirty at the time of pick up and had a nasty smell! The staff charged us $45 per day for Collision when the website advertises $9 per day. The girl who was very friendly because of our name first said it $35 and when we went back it somehow became $45. The manager lady was clearly racist who was not only unprofessional but totally disrespectful too!

Had a reservation until July 3rd. Returned on June 30th and was still charged a $75 "OverStay Fee". This was never explained by the staff, nor mentioned when I returned the vehicle. Their phone isn't staffed and they don't return calls. I always had a great experience at other Budget locations but strongly advise against choosing Budget of Utah.

Beware. You cannot actually reach someone at this location. The phone number rings to Utah Budget car rental. Additionally, Budget customer service cannot reach anyone at this location. I returned a vehicle that was not properly returned in their system and no one can reach the location to validate that the vehicle was returned.

Google directions are wrong if you follow the link in the reservation email. Pickup and drop-off hours for this “franchise” are different than what is stated in the email. Not a good experience to say the least. Obviously, most of the discrepancies are no fault of the employees but the employees seem very short and unhelpful.

Very poor communication. We were scheduled to drop off our car on a holiday, and they did not bother to tell us that they would be closed that day. We showed up to a sign on the door that informed us we needed to return cars to the airport location. Can't believe they didn't share that beforehand. It was very inconvenient.
