If you know the history and area, then the transformation here is 6-star worthy. In short, it’s lovely, varied and sizeable. At its Eastern edge is the Old Kent Road with a huge quirky gate-like entrance that leads you right up to the beautiful ponds. It’s easy to fish here (get a license, even for kids!) or just admire the swans, geese, pelicans, ducks, etc - there are a lot! The central part of the park is more open spaces but still with an artificial hill and rose-gardens on the Southern edge. The children’s playground is a biking/scooting paradise, with a large slide (quite slow!), zip-line and more. Nearby is a dedicated BMX centre. As any ‘refurbished’ park now has, there’s a cafe in some old buildings in the middle. But check the opening hours if you’re in need. The Western half is connected with a short pedestrian tunnel and gentle gradients. You’re greeted by an unusual old quick-lime kiln in stark contrast to the new builds on the Northern edge. A little forested area and generally flat paths round out a decent running route. The origins and history aren’t forgotten. The Aylesbury is right there and so is a Youth Centre (by the BMX track). Sadly BBQs seem to have been axed (many large families used to gather) but I’m sure some still do on the down-low. If you’re able, come mid-week and it’s true bliss. If not, you’ll find some space and something to love.
Burgess Park is open 24/7. It has number sculptures commemorating the old streets and houses that once stood on site. There is also a footbridge that seemingly bridges across nothing but some grassland that marks the place where used to be a canal. There are variety of paved and unpaved pathways and walkways throughout the park — many of them are fitted with CCTV. Some parts, particularly in the woodland area, neither fitted with CCTV nor with street lighting.
Restrooms
There are disabled and both sexes toilets in the middle of Burgess Park where the cafe is located. These can be used for free of charge but unattended and appear to have opening times when they are available. However, I couldn't find those opening hours to be on display. There's another toilet area next to the pond towards the Old Kent Road end of Burgess Park which has a 24/7 urinal with hand wash and hand dryer facilities but the toilets next to that torrent seem to be available 24/7.
Its a nice park for strolling / walking/jogging /taking kids out for play. Currently there is no BBQ allowed but earlier it was allowed. There is a lake with fountains and ducks in it. The surrounding path is a bit slippery during rainy / snowy days so be little careful. It also has a sports center , sports grounds for variuos sports, BMX tracks , cycling route and park cafe. Overall a nice place to visit for all.. Baby / Kid friendly ✅ Amazing Café ☕✅ Wheelchair / stroller accessible ♿ ✅ ( It has accessible path , accessible toilets and accessible entrance , wheelchair / buggy parking space available) Clean toilets with baby diaper changing facility for all ♿ ✅ Garbage bins and hand sanitising stations available ✅ COVID measures in place Entrance fees : Free Totally recommend !!!
Went there for a festival and got to see some of the park too while I was there, the place is nice and relaxing with lots of trees for shade, which was especially nice for the scorching weather that day. The Carnival del pueblo festival was also lots of fun, got to go with friends and family, Burguess park was a lovely venue. Buses are just a bit crowded though, and there are no nearby train stations within a 10 minute walk which make it quite hard to get to. There were many musicians playing at the festival as well. Overall great park for picnics, and a day out for any children to play at the multiple playgrounds.
Burgess Park, located in South London, is a diverse and expansive green space that offers a range of recreational activities. The park features a large lake, playgrounds, and sports facilities, providing opportunities for both relaxation and exercise. The well-maintained pathways are great for walking and cycling, while the variety of flora adds to the park's natural charm. The inclusion of a BMX track and sports pitches caters to different interests. Overall, Burgess Park serves as a vibrant community hub with its mix of nature and amenities, making it a valuable asset for residents and visitors alike.
I've been going fishing here, it's lovely. Most other people are here having a picnic, or exercising, or hanging out. And it's so nice and friendly. I can leave my fishing gear by the lake and pop to the public toilets and not worry about my stuff being knicked, chat with someone about fishing, and share some of my lunch with the ducks and any nosey kids :)
Restrooms
Public toilets are open 24/7 and clean. Nice.
Dog-friendliness
Lots of friendly doggos! Please bring more.
Picnic area
Bring a blanket, and picnic all you want!
I enjoy going to Burgess Park. I've only been there during the day so I can't vouch for it after dark. There is a lot to do including Chumleigh Gardens and Almhouses, a Lake, Memorials, Sports Facilities and Children’s Play Areas. Stop at one of the cafes for breakfast, lunch, afternoon tea, and cake. The Park is split into two halves, separated by Wells Way; one side borders Camberwell and the other Old Kent Road. Next door, you’ll find the Surrey Linear Canal Park and Surrey Canal Path that takes you to Peckham Library.
This is my favourite park in SE London, especially to walk my dogs in. The grounds team do an amazing job here & the wildflowers grow to huge heights. Very Impressive. It is a very varied park too, with areas for BMX biking, a lake- with ducks & swans & daily fishing passes are available. They have open spaces, wooded areas, BBQ areas, manicured gardens, a children's play park, a cafe & loads of parking available too. They also host festivals, funfairs & the circus when in town. 5 stars for sure!!'
This park holds sentimental value for me, and despite my affection for it, my only grievances lie with the unpredictable London weather. During summer, it transforms into an ideal spot for leisurely walks or relaxation, making it a cherished retreat in the bustling city.
Playground
A fantastic playground with vibrant, safe equipment for all ages. Thoughtful design, ample seating, and clean surroundings make it a perfect spot for families. Highly recommended!
Great big park, friendly enough crowd that seem to be around there. Love the pond, I enjoy running around it. Also a big fan of the Burgess park run. Lots of dogs and dog owners, again, from my experience all friendly. Took my cat there today and he had a lovely time. Some cyclists can be a bit rude, as they think the paths belong to them, but the majority are friendly and it's still a lovely park. Some great coffee in and around too. Also table tennis tables.
A surprisingly nice urban park with many different parts and styles. It's unusually long and thin for a park but that means it's character changes as you move east-west, with a lovely little lake at one end and some nice old almshouses in meadow like surroundings to the landscaped mounds and criss coss network of paths on the western end. It's a nice place to spend some time people watching as you'll see the full range of London era and 101 different accents.
It’s a great park filled with large lakes and ponds. Although you are not allowed to feed the pigeons, you are able to look at them centimetres apart without them flying away. It’s really nice just to have a bbq near the lake and enjoy the view as many others have done. There is a small bridge in the middle of the lake which you can walk across to reach the other part of the park, tremendous view. Absolutely recommended.
This park is one of the largest in the area, similar in size to St.James' park and Green Park combined. The main feature is the lake, which is available for fishing on a day licence. To the east you find a cricket pitch, football pitches and a sports centre with outdoor table tennis tables. The south end has a large children's play area, cafe, and more. Very popular for walking, cycling, rollerskating, picnics and more.
My second visit for a picnic. Very culturally diverse park. Beautiful, friendly and clean. It has a fishing and lake well kept toilets. There is lots of shade if you can't handle any more sun ☺️
Picnic area
The picnic area says no bbqs however ample cast iron table and bench spaces. Advise to bring paper cloths and secure with sticky tape for best experience. Loved it yesterday my friends 60th birthday picnic.
Big efforts to improve this park, along with a (much needed) regeneration of the area. Staff there are doing a great job but it doesn’t seems to be enough of them for how big the park is, or that they have the appropriate budget. Biggest problem here however, are some of the irresponsible users leaving all of their rubbish behind, especially on spring/summer months, and the fairs destroying the grass.
Was here for boiler room. Venue was set up very well and well staffed with plenty of security. Was a red hot day and plenty of good music, food and vibes. A big thank you to the medical centre on site who had suncream to hand. Saved a few people from serious sunburn there Will keep an eye out for future events here as it was a really good turn out! Ez you was quality!!!
Excellent location for picnics, walks, exercise, pets and for the views. Sunrises and sunsets are really superb here overlooking the water and bridge. Loads of ducks and swans for children to see. Huge park with multiple entrances, which sometimes can be home to local fun fairs and circuses. Good for cycling, skating and kite flying also. Best enjoyed during spring and summer.
Great park for everyone individual interests . Some good historical points with in , just look out for them . Love the the outer perimeter foot path . Some days you could be fooled that you were out of London . More benches and other sitting are really needed I think , something the local parks authority should really consider CF
Very nice park for either relaxation or a bit of sport. They've got a couple of tennis courts which can be hired and also a lake. During the summer months, it's a very nice spot to relax in the late evenings and cool off after the heat.
Picnic area
The picnic area is near the lakes and there are a few benches with tables.
A beautiful park in the heart of Camberwell! There really is something here for everyone, whether you'd enjoy a game of tennis, a spot of jogging, cycling, walking, relaxing, or exploring. Also has a huge bmx track, a wonderful view of the Shard and a huge lake full of fish, birds, swans and I even spotted a turtle!
Very nice park with lake on the middle. Lots of space to sit and ride on bike. There is a kids playing area at one end as well as coffee shop. One minus though lots and I mean lots of people there on Saturday afternoon when I visited. I had to be extra careful not to jump on anyone. But overall worth visiting.
Nice park in London with a pay area for the kids and for the older kids , a lively little cafe that does a nice brunch menu and great for just getting out and out in the day . At night however you need to be careful as lots of people hanging around drinking so stay clear If you can at night.
Nice open green space with paved roads next to it that are pedestrian only and ideal for bicycles and prams. Excellent for dog walking. Free parking on Saturday and Sundays. Highly recommended.
Dog-friendliness
Great for dog walking.
Picnic area
Lots of space to put down mats.
It's my long time local park and I love it. The only faults I can give is not about the park itself but just London weather. In summer it's a nice park to walk or just chill in. Wish they had some sort of Café near the pond, thats one thing that would make this a perfect park in London.
It's a beautiful place during day light hours how ever after dark is a different matter the lighting in the park to almost none existent also every night large groups of people hang around playing loud music and making a mess with better lighting this would be less likely to happen
It great as the is so much to do. It has tennis courts, bmx biking, cricket field, man made lake where people with permit fish, bbq area with tables and chairs. In the lake there are lots of ducks and other birds. It has hills which are quite high as they are man made too.
A pleasant surprise: neat park with exciting paths on small hills as well as standard road for cyclists and less adventurous pedestrians (and don't forget the BMX track!). Don't feed ducks bread; oats/lettuce/cooked rice are way healthier and prevent rat infestation.
A lovely place for a stroll or just to chill put in. There's a nice lake at the far end which is good for bird spotting. The park is fairly well maintained but hasn't got many stand out features. There are some public toilets but they weren't that well maintained.
Attended the CARNAVAL Del PUEBLO in this park and it was an amazing experience. Lots of food, drinks, jewellery and clothing from the south Americas and in the afternoon a live concert with Latin artists. Great event and best of all the concert was totally free.
The best in Southwark and one of the biggest. Very entertaining and enjoyable place to chill. This place is open to all pet owners and I personally enjoy watching them run around. It has lots of benches within the park. There are restrooms available too.
Burgess park is one of the best parks in south London, it has such a large amount of variety from tennis courts, a BMX track and a lake it really has something for everyone. In summer there is a public BBQ area that is always busy. There is
First time I have walked the whole of Burgess Park the bit between peckham library & Trafger Avenue is narrow cyclist race through nearly hitting you but not all cyclist are bad as some do ring a bell & slow down so thanks to them. The bit
Nice Park with large area and plenty of sporting options including tennis, table tennis, football, volleyball, etc. There also a moderate sized lake with ducks and plenty of other birds around the park. Can be a bit crowded on the weekends.
It's a great place for relaxing on weekends and holidays. We have an artificial lake where you can go and feed beautiful birds. It has table tennis courts, lawn tennis courts, football pitch and many others. You can also jog in the park.
One of my favorite parks in London hands down. Range of facilities from table tennis tables, to the pond for fishing and good nice hills to perch on and enjoy some summer sun. It has almost everything you could want. Highly recommended
Beautiful scenery, swans, ducks, good place for fishing, plenty of wildlife such as cheeky little squirrels and a massive lake, great for a walk of cycle around, going for a run or just somewhere peacefull to sit in quiet contemplation
A good place is a haven of self-discovery, where the journey inward is as fulfilling as the exploration of the external world. It's a destination that encourages us to peel back the layers of our identity and embrace our true selves.
A huge park with stunning views. Strongly recommend the grassland area towards the Western side of the park - it gives you stunning views over the shard, a beautiful lake and a semi-wild grassland with amazing variety of wild birds.
Very large park in Southwark with a magnificent lake that is home to many wild birds including swans, geese, ducks, moorhens, coots, cormorants and crested grebes. Lovely wildflower areas too. A great place to spend some time.
Nice Park foe family's as is well equipped for family's with children of any age. The park has a relaxing atmosphere and there is a lot of space for everyone. There are public toilets and there is a playground with a cafe.
I always used to walk through here from school and the sunsets were absolutely breathtaking. I've had many family gatherings in the BBQ area too! Also, the ducks are very friendly and cute so it's like free therapy :)
i really think It is a wonderful place to enjoy for adults and children. It is a very Big with playgroung, chance to fish, to cycle, a lake, table tennis etc...many things to do on a very relaxing area More
This is my happy place. Hills, little forests, massive duck pond, table and tennis courts, cafe's skating, bmx track, the list is endless. So serene. I just love it and have started training here.
Spacious grassed surface plus walkways old kent Road end.lake just inside entrance from old Kent road end walworthbroad end tennis courts and bmx track , amble through at your leisure ..
Nice and soothing place. Lake in the middle is very entertaining with all kinds of birds. Found an Egyptian goose all the way from Cairo. Felt like home. …
A lovely park but the dog walkers are ruining everyone's visit to the park, by not keeping their dog on the leash. Take a can of pepper spray with you.
Best park in south London, lots of cool nooks and crannies to explore and a variety of greenery. Loads of open space for picnics and fun and games.
Worse fireworks ever. Actually the fireworks themselves were great but the rest was rubbish. Flyer said fair, music fun for all family. Hmmmm
My favourite park In south, so nice to chill here on a sunny day
Dog-friendliness
Friendly
Picnic area
Great for picnic
Park is clean, has an outdoor gym. Is situated adjacent to one of my current construction sites. Perfect for a stroll with the dog
Great big massive park for all the family. With a lovely lake plus a skating ring for the kids.very pleasurable for everyone.
One of the best parks in SouthEast London! Massive space and you can spend a whole day, walking, running and cycling. Nice
Lovely park, ideal for a lovely day out, though not too sure about the loud music being played over there sometimes
Pay a visit if you are nearby. There are other parks that are much better than this one. But, still good.
Lovely place to go on walks. You can even fish and camp by the lake (provided you have a daily permit)
Wonderful Angling community always willing to help new anglers a hidden gem in the hart of southwark.
Too dark ? In common - ? Otherwise summer's nice there. At the moment - December very muddy. :).
Great Park with lots of open space, a lake and other amenities. Great for running
Very big and nice park, worth a visit if you have some extra time
