Have to say it's a while since I last visited this cafe. I was disappointed. It's gone down hill. I used to meet a friend regularly and there was a lovely friendly atmostphere. Used to be a great little place to meet a friend for a coffee and/or breakfast. The first thing I noticed was how grubby it looked and felt. Supposedly renovated in 2020 but the general decor seems not to have been changed, is shabby and needs touching up. The stairs seem not to have seen a hoover in days, dirt and dust across the surface. The tables were all awry and needed clearing. When the table was eventually cleared it was wiped with a dry cloth not sprayed with Antibacterial. We had a coffee which was good but I wouldn't eat there it felt dirty. I felt embarassed I'd asked my friend to meet there. There has obviously been a change in management since last I was there (pre covid). Service was pitifully slow and the staff need serious training in customer relations. Not a smile between them. Needs vast improvement to bring it back up to standard. Won't be rushing back.

Coffee was good but a long wait for the bacon sandwich took forever, coffee was cold by time the food arrived. Tight stairs to get to the upper floor where seating is provided so if you have any trouble with mobility best avoid this place. The breakfast that other people had looked pretty good but I found mine to be under par. The cafe appears grubby and there is dust settled on surfaces, the sauce bottle wasn't clean either. Toilets appeared dirty and the soap seemed watered down. I wasn't keen on putting a tip on the bill before I was even served, it was on the payment system before the transaction could be completed. Overall a disappointment and I will not return or recommend here.

The cafe is situated in a lovely spot just opposite the harbour hotel. With plenty of seating it’s a great place for food and a coffee. We ordered pancakes and the “Bacon King”, which is simply lots of bacon and egg crammed into a brioche bun! The sandwich was fantastic. Sadly I have to take a star away due to the super long wait time for the pancakes. We were advised that it was a 30 minute wait when ordering which was fine. The sandwich arrived and we were advised it would be 2 minutes for the pancakes. 30 mins later and after having to ask, the pancakes arrived. We also had some dried food left on the cutlery, thankfully a staff member noticed as she was handing it to us so this was fixed quickly. If you want a cracking bacon sandwich, certainly check this place out.

Nice “oldest coffee house” in Bristol. It’s located in central Bristol close to the vibrant (on weekdays) market- that is a definitive recommendation in itself. It was quite busy when I visited. - coffee was great - vegetarian breakfast was rather small (one egg, tiny avocado) & disappointing (veg sausages should be a protein replacement- not a potato roll!!) Had to wait ~45min for my order to arrive - but received a free coffee for that( they forgot my order I guess)z Room for improvement imho - especially for these prices.

We went there as it was named as oldest coffee house in Bristol. It’s located in central Bristol in a beautiful ally. The vibe is nice and cozy but unfortunately everything is dirty there. I requested a bottle of water first and waitress kindly let me know that water is available in a jar over a counter with glasses, but honestly, all glasses were super dirty and I again decided to order a bottled water. It didn’t end with those glasses and we received our orders with dirty cutlery as well. Avocado & egg sandwich had a weird sour taste and also chilli inside. I hope it’s management will work more on their services and make this lovely old place shine as it’s located in a really nice area and has a lot of potential.

This is a delightful little squat in a historical part of Bristol. Though I once had a bad experience involving feta cheese here, I overcame my initial reticence to revisit and was bountifully rewarded by a delicious stack of pancakes, laden with the fruits of the forest namely: bananas, blueberries and a healthy drizzling of maple syrup. The pancakes were one of the most exquisite kinds that I have experienced yet in England. Fluffy, soft and with a lightness that is balanced out with their 5mm approx. depth each. Gorgeous. After such a delightful experience following the previous travesty, I will be returning for their all-day brunch. Did I say I would recommend the pancakes? I recommend the pancakes. Three words: Snug, Bristolian and tasteful.

Flat white and bacon bap. Coffee was ok. Not great, but not terrible, was just ok. Value wise, about the same price as most places. Bacon bap. The bacon was very greasy, so much so, I had it on my plate. The bacon itself was ok, but not smoked. The brioche bun was ok. Out of 10, I'd give it a middle diddle, 5. Dry frying and smoked bacon, would've upped the score, as the price doesn't match the food. I found the price was for superior food, but that's not what arrived. So a very average 3 out 5 for both, coffee and food, and for a slightly ditzy server, who seemed to forget that we were the ones who'd ordered the food from her! Would I go again? Maybe, but wouldn't get food.

The awards on the wall from 2017 and before seem to be from the era when someone cared about this place. Ordered a flat white, waited ten minutes only for a latte to be handed over. No pleasantries or manners, just brusque and bad service. Some guy was after sweetener and the staff simply couldn't find it for some reason. A lack of care all round. Felt like they'd given up somewhat. How people can say this is the best coffee place in Bristol is astonishing to me. Overpriced and utterly mediocre.

Nice cafe in a good location in the centre of Bristol. We had the English breakfasts. The food was fine however the bread and bacon were quite hard. Looked like they had been over cooked or kept warm too long. The sausages, tomatoes and eggs were great. What I did taste of the bacon was nice though. Plus they did have oat milk for our teas. Nice place for people watching though. Plus the staff were friendly.

Full English was really good - 8/10. Was a bit concerned about the lack of beans but it was actually quite nice to not have them. Asked for crispy bacon and got exactly that. Mushrooms were cooked to perfection. Only thing that would have made it better was the tomatoes. They were basically just warm whole cherry tomatoes - needed more cooking. Cup of tea was a 5/10. Way too milky, teabag still in, no spoon and cup dirty.

Food took an entire hour. One of our guys got food after about half an hour (he ordered 2 plates, and of course, they arrived at separate times). We talked to the waitresses a bunch of times, and it still took half an hour after we said that we had a train to catch. Even to get a coffee after we talked to the waitress took 15 mins. Waitress was very polite, and we tried to be understanding, but after we complained we saw our order going to different tables. Plus the plates were unnecessarily tiny.

  • Mark Fuller

Great place to grab a coffee (and away from the chains that dominate the high street). Food is great but the cafe is split over three floors which can make access tricky if stairs are a problem. Some of the tables could do with a good clean. The oldest coffee house in Bristol and still serving good coffee . . . so give it a visit

Amazing light roast latte! I've lived in Bristol for two years and this is hands down the best latte I've had. I hate a dark roast latte, it tastes too sour, fortunately this one is super smooth and creamy yet strong. It tastes like how they make coffee in Italy. Amazing machine, probably cleaned regularly. The bread for the sandwhich was very poor, I would recommend for the owner to reconsider what sandwich bread they use. Shout out to Jackie for the great coffee, I'll come back again for sure.

  • Guy Milnes

A great little cafe in the heart of the old town. The service is friendly and food good. The only reason I dropped a star is the lack of power points to use for working people. I often sit in with a coffe and snack whilst waiting to shoot a wedding at the register office opposite, and it would be nice to be able to work on my laptop from the mains. I hope this is something they'll consider providing. Otherwise a cool place with character

Ordered the veggie breakfast, egg was undercooked and was able to pick a big glob of egg juice from the top off the egg to the other side of my plate. Everything else was fine but ruined my appetite for the day and could have ended quite badly if I hadn't of noticed? I suffer with anxiety so wouldn't have personally said anything but do feel it's important for you to know so it won't happen in future.

Great and swift service from a friendly bunch of staff. Lovely hot coffee. Had buttermilk pancakes with crispy bacon and maple syrup and an amazing chicken quesadilla with sour creme and guacamole after watching one being crafted on the hot plate while the chef merrily hummed along to the radio! There's a lot of places to eat in the area, but this one should be on your radar as a great regular lunch spot!

Sad experience really, almost English breakfast was £££ and vegan ££. My breakfast came with added black hair on the egg. We paid £20.30 for the two meals and 2 cups of tea. Servive was ok, and I was offered another plate, but that's not the point. The plates are paper and 8 inches square, the food is therefore piled on a small plate in an attempt to make it look bigger... it was being run by youngster's... I know I have eaten much better and more for half the price...

  • Mary Gaddes

I was disappointed that everything was served on disposable paper plates, disposable fork/knife, disposable cups. I didn't realise this would be the case, I was hoping to have a nice brunch for my 30th birthday but instead got more of a canteen feel than a café. Food average, the full vegan breakfast was dry, not served with beans or anything, no vegan butter on the toast just dry pieces of toast. Nice staff though and nice chai latte. Wouldn't return.

I was abit shocked we ordered two glasses of wine and were given 2 small bottles. As one of us was the Bride waiting to go to the registry office, a tad sad that service was so bad £10 for 2 small bottles and we had to ask 3 times for wine glasses as they expected us to drink out of the bottles as they didnt have any clean glasses we had to wait for them to wash them up

Really does need a Revival - very disappointed on our visit, we always use this Cafe when we visit Bristol, the location is fab and the building is quirky and we used to be greeted by friendly faces! However this time was a huge let down, the food was poor and the place looked very tired and the service was as bland as the coffee. It's such a shame and I really hope things improve here.

  • Lucie Resteau

Absolutely love this independent cafe. Whether taking away great coffee, staying in the main room on the first floor, or getting comfy in the snug to work in a quiet place. The food is always simple and great. It is the only coffee shop I go in the centre as the atmosphere is always so friendly and warm. The building is also amazing, traditional English architecture, lots of history.

Wandered in here from my Hotel across the street where the Breakfasts are probably pleasant enough but ridiculously expensive. I had a full breakfast for £7.00 in the Revival and I have to say it was one of the best fried breakfasts I have eaten being both plentiful and well cooked. The staff were pleasant and the ambience upstairs very nice. Heartily recommended.

Really cool little cafe! Had all day breakfast. Incredibly filling I chose not to have a few bits and they made sure they added lots of my favourites to the dish to fill it out! Chilled mocha was very nice. Good atmosphere and a unique layout Friendly staff with good quick service 10/10

Food was delicious, service with a smile. Reasoning for 3 star being that there were no menus on the top floor and the website was under renovation during my visit so couldn't see a menu online either. Also, would have appreciated a window or 2 cracked open, but this may possibly have been due to the age of the building. Overall, good for a quick bite to eat.

Stinky, sticky, and dirty interiors with some nice, vintage features. Avarage quality of food and drinks, with super-friendly but lost and unbelievable slow (been waiting for two cups of coffee 25mins!) staff. Central location do not save from disappointment the place titled 'The Oldest Bristol's Coffee House'

  • Charli Bey

This is not the place it was. Today I found it sticky, grubby and unkempt. There were cardboard boxes lying around, and the toilets were dirty and had not been cleaned recently. I had to chivvy the batrista for our coffees when they did not appear after 10 minutes. Great location but needs serious TLC.

Good coffee (flat white) and smoothies. I had visited this cafe several times. It really gain my trust! Staff friendly and very careful with covid measures! Single use plates and cups and all of them wore masks. Pancakes were a little bit cold! But I will give another try.

Beautiful old historical café with a modern twist. Located in a 1780's three story building close to the centre of Bristol. I always find this a great place to stop to grab a coffee. It is close to criminal and civil courts being great to go here and relax before trials.

  • Alejandro R. Padrón H. (Ðrojan)

We loved the place, I like that there is a genuine felling of the old coffee house, is really cosy inside. Just a shame that we are served in carboard cups and not conventional ceramics. But I understand it may be impractical as waiters have to go up and down the stairs.
