Jillian Duggan-Herd represented me in my military divorce and while she is very well-versed in divorce law and is also one of the top rated attorneys in California, the part of her representation of me that meant the most was, she gave me peace of mind. I was blindsided by my former spouse who abruptly abandoned me, our 23 year marriage and our children in California where I had no family (we were there on his orders) and found myself completely alone and in dire straits. Jillian took my case and from the very beginning she took control of everything legal related and in turn, took those worries off my mind. After completing peaceful Divorce proceedings in 2015 with another firm, I never thought I would go back to court four years later regarding an emergency situation related to my Ex-Spouse and our Child. I initially contacted my Attorney who handled my case in 2015, and that Attorney felt I could represent myself in Court. After further dicussion with a Family member who is an Attorney regarding the current emergency situation, it became more apparent that I truly needed legal representation from a very sharp and competent Attorney. The Coach was very well versed with the San Diego County Court system. I went to both the Mediation and Court meetings with confidence because of Jamie's recommendations. The guidance and representation I received from having such a very knowledgable and sharp Attorney, made the difference with winning and loosing the new terms related to my Child Custody case. Ultimately, Jamie is a HUGE part of the reason why I can sleep better knowing my Child is safe under the new custody agreement, and knowing I can call on her if needed. I don’t know what happens to people when they decide it’s over. My ex-wife first surprised me with a divorce notice, and then I found out that she hired a prestigious, expensive international law firm to represent her. I thought these guys were for high profile movie star cases? I guess her first tactic was to instil fear in me. Fortunately for me, I found Jaime Cage of Cage & Miles. David against Goliath? Maybe. After first meeting with Jaime, I knew she was the right choice. She is personable, smart, strategic. She handled my case herself, personally. Since we had great documentation of the truth, instilling fear and other aggressive tactics didn’t work. In the end, my wife’s choice of an expensive, international firm, and my choice of a personal, smart, strategic lawyer in a small firm was my salvation. Going through the family court system has been the most stressful thing in my life I've ever had to deal with. Although i currently disagree with the family court system and think it needs to be reformed. Especially when I was going up against an abusive high conflict mother with a drug addiction whom I share a child with. Christina Alkire at Cage and Miles gave me the best possible outcome I could've asked for. At first I had sole legal and physical custody with a 2 year permanent restraining order. Which I was extremely pleased with. A year later my child's mother took me back to court claiming she was a changed person and deserved more time and overnight visitations with our son. I was forced to re-retain Christina Alkire again. This time I winded up with joint legal custody but still have sole physical custody of our son. Although I disagree with the family court system and don't think an abusive mother with a high conflict personality disorder and a drug addiction should have over night visitations with a toddler. I got the best possible outcome and did my best to protect him in an extremely difficult situation. If you are looking for the best look no further than Cage and Miles. They work as a team and I know they did their best for me.

From our initial consultation with Jillian, we knew she was going to be the fairest and firmest attorney to help us with our family law case. We were looking for an attorney that wasn't going to waste our time or theirs to rack up billings, had a winning attitude and was going to be reasonable and realistic with our objectives and options. We were very pleased and appreciative of Jillian's time, diligence, honesty and her approach to our case--so much so, that I referred a friend of mine to Jillian before we even went to our hearing. That was how confident we felt about Jillian and Cage & Miles. At our hearing, Jillian was on time, on point, well prepared and has a professional demeanor and firm attitude that you can tell is well-respected by the Judge and other attorneys present (and that very much intimidated my ex-husband!) I hired Cage and Miles and they assigned my case to John Sylvester who charged $9,159 for his incompetent work. His extremely high hourly rate is not reflected in his skill level. In court, he does not have a strong presence as he lacks quick rebuttals and strong arguments. Not only did he not make any progress on my case, he actually delayed it and set it back. There was a lot of cleanup I had to do. Since he ran through my retainer so quickly with his over-priced and inefficient use of time, I requested that he just represent me on a limited scope. He agreed, but then later reneged without any reasoning. We had an attorney fees request pending and he refused to supply a Cueva Declaration which would have only taken him about 20 minutes to write. I offered to pay him, but he still refused after a month of ignoring my urgent request. John will just run through your retainer with long-winded phone calls where he unnecessarily repeats himself and then, when it comes to court appearances, he looks like a weakling stumbling for words.

I have been been represented by Cage & Miles for the past two years on a multitude of issues surrounding custody of my son. John Sylvester and his team worked diligently with me throughout the entire process, outlining what to expect with upcoming litigation as well as what needed to be done on both our ends to present the best possible case. He and his team answered any and all of my questions in a timely manner, being straightforward with answers even if they were not what I wanted to hear. I would recommend staying away from this firm. Their billing practices are highly suspect (many hidden "fees" for seemingly nothing...just simple codes they input to mask work being done). Dealing with them was draining, stressful, and frustrating from the very beginning (which started out with no return phone call...I had to call again). I should have trusted my gut; I had a bad feeling from the get go, and it only got worse once they got my retainer! Now, after 2 weeks of ending my relationship, I am still waiting on the return of my retainer (minus all of their bogus fees, one of which I have already been warned will be a "closing cost"...they are charging me to end my relationship with them!). Like I said, STAY AWAY FROM THEM!

I whole heartedly stand by my five star review. The attorneys at Cage & Miles began working immediately on a custody issue that was time sensitive and no other attorneys could start for a week. Both the knowledge and passion that Mr. James Dooley and Ms. Jessica Nguyen have shows in their quality of work and is next to impossible to find! Through the entire case, I was kept up to date and never once felt like I didn't understand what was happening. I actually felt comfortable enough to never check in as they had the entire issue under control. I spent well over 1000 dollars just speaking with other attorneys and wish I would have began with Cage & Miles as they have set the gold standard for what I expect from future attorneys.
