My experience at Carlton Family Medical has been incredibly poor. I came in need of a mental health plan - namely to address recurring bouts of disordered eating behaviours that I have been dealing with for the past ten years. On the new customer form, I did not write my weight - for obvious reasons as mentioned above. I was questioned by the doctor as to why I didn't list my weight and I explained, while also querying as to how it had any bearing on me obtaining a mental health plan. The doctor refused to budge, and I was forced to hop on the scale. I was then told I had booked the wrong appointment to obtain a mental health plan (no-one explained that to me when I called reception to book initially) but he continued anyway. He assured me that it would be fine and he would explain to reception that I would need another appointment but I could just book a singular one, not a longer one (with the accompanying higher cost) as is usually required for a mental health plan. When I tried to call reception to arrange this, the woman I spoke to was incredibly curt, and basically said that that wasn't the case and nothing had been communicated to her. I understand this wasn't her fault, but given the sensitivity of obtaining a mental health plan I didn't feel that it was necessary to be so rude. I ended up cancelling the appointment and I will now have to go somewhere else to explain my mental health history for the second time in two weeks. For those looking for a GP in Carlton, I highly recommend the GPs in Lygon Plaza. Bulk-billed and couldn't be more professional.

I have been a patient with Carlton Family Medical for a little over a year now. Dr Zabidi is my GP, and she is AMAZING. I referred a friend to her, and this friend said that Dr Zabidi is the best GP she's ever had (and she's lived in Melbourne for 10 years). Dr Zabidi is very thorough, non-judgmental, validating, and shows that she truly cares about the well-being of her patients. I also want to complement the front desk staff at Carlton Family Medical. I have always had pleasant experiences with them both in person and on the phone. Recently, the front desk staff went above and beyond to help me secure documentation I needed for an international flight. I frantically called them about a million times throughout the day, and they answered every question and rushed request carefully, patiently, & thoroughly. They truly saved the day, I cannot thank them enough, nor can I recommend this practice enough. I also wanted to thank Dr Audehm, who also greatly helped me in my rushed requests for documents for my international travel plans. The entire team at Carlton Family Medical is incredibly hardworking, and it is clear that everyone truly cares about the patients. I am very grateful to everyone at Carlton Family Medical!

I was recommended to this clinic by a friend because I wanted to start talking about my reproductive health and didn’t have a regular GP. I had developed a fear of going to the doctor due to years of seeing doctors who weren’t able to display the level of kindness and sensitivity I expect in that setting. My friend recommended Dr Brooke Anderson to me who was a perfect professional, so kind and so thoughtful. Throughout the appointment she was sure to remind me that my comfort was top priority and if there was anything I didn’t want to do or discuss, to just let her know. She was very gentle and respectful, and really understood the vulnerability of the position I was in after developing such a strong fear of seeing medical professionals. I definitely felt very safe and comfortable in her care and will continue coming back to this clinic moving forward. I’m so grateful to have finally seen a doctor who is receptive to my needs and really wants to put patient comfort at the forefront of her work. Highly recommend.

Avoid this place. There are many other clinics in the area who won't overcharge you or make you deal with rude receptionists. Originally I came in for a consultation and received a medical certificate for time off from work. After losing the certificate I called and asked whether I could have another printed. I was told that for a free replacement I would have to book an appointment and came in to have another printed and that it would be bulk billed. Having to physically come in was inconvenient enough. The doctor printed off a certificate and an accompanying letter to extend the dates of my time from work. The receptionists then told me I would be charged $70 for the 'consultation'. Then the lady with whom I spoke on the phone originally lied and said she had warned me that any 'extra' work by the doctor would result in a full charge. The attitude of the receptionists was incredibly dismissive and rude, and deceiving. Like I said, there is a plethora of doctors in the area with whom you can speak.

I used to come here to see Dr Brooke Anderson. At first, things were very good, she was almost like a friend, but things went downhill really quickly. She was aware I was self-treating with party drugs but did not think to do any research about it. I ended up becoming paralysed from the waist down and from the forearms to my hands.This was about 4+ years now. I have since recovered sensation in my limbs but have moved back to my home country because healthcare is a serious joke in Australia. Dr Anderson dropped me as a patient when I moved away from the city area and needed to take a taxi from all the way in Clayton to Carlton just to see her, instead of being understanding of this, well, she decided to just leave me to my own defences with a huge pile of medical history. I do not recommend this clinic. A warning is that they also liked to charge for getting a prescription only without consultation. I was told that wasn't legal, but since I don't live in Australia anymore, that's not my problem.

I just want to give a massive shout to the doctors at this clinic. My regular GP is Dr David Ling has been fantastic every time I have needed care. Over the weekend, my knee locked in place following an acute tennis injury. I couldn’t get into Dr Ling for Monday but managed to get an appointment with Dr Katryna Zabidi for Monday afternoon. She was incredibly caring and (somehow) incredibly managed to get me an urgent orthopaedic referral/consultation for 9.30am the next day. Following the orthopaedic referral, I was rushed into an urgent surgery first thing Wednesday morning. I am now writing this on Thursday on the (painful) road to recovery. None of this would have been possible without Dr Zabidi’s urgency and level of care. My personal circumstances meant that I needed this issue resolved asap and this was properly taken into account. I highly recommend these doctors to everyone.

Was recommended by a friend to visit Brooke Anderson at the clinic after many failed visits with other doctors. Dr. Anderson listened to me and was very up front, on top of being empathetic and sympathetic. Something I have been unable to find here in Melbourne with other clinics since moving here in August last year. I travelled from the other side of town to see her - and I will not visit another doctor again. Reception was friendly and professional. No bulk billing however rebate back on your card immediately (depending on your bank and day of the week will determine when it shows) I am a firm believer in you get what you pay for, and this clinic's service is worth every cent. Thank you for listening to me and being human as well as professional and caring-like our doctors should be.

I started going here a year ago. I’ve seen Dr. Brooke Anderson and Dr Ralph Audehm and they’re both the best doctors I’ve ever been to. The practice runs on time all the time, they have pathology on site. Dr Audehm has never rushed me, always checks in with my mental health regardless of the reason for my appointment. He never lets me leave without asking if there’s anything else concerning me. One time my partner was there for a skin check and Dr Audehm randomly noticed a condition on his toe that he had been suffering through for 10 years and got it fixed up for him which no doctor had ever been able to help with. I can not recommend this place more highly. I’ve lived in this area for 5 over years and the only regret I have is not coming here sooner.

I received a phone call from my sister in-law who lives overseas, very concerned about her sons health. I was asked to help link my nephew in with a reliable GP who could be trusted, who would be able to support him during his stay. After making an appointment we visited the clinic together. The GP respectfully spoke with my nephew and heard what he had to say, acknowledged that I was a support person and empowered him to take charge of his health. The diagnosis was made after a thorough assessment (mostly from taking my nephews history), it was accurate, and explained well. The treatment plan was perfect. What seperates this clinic to others is that there was active follow up. I continue to recommend people to the clinic.

I've only been seen by two GPs here, but both are outstanding. Dr Travers goes above and beyond in terms of seeing to/asking about any possible thing that's affecting my life; always takes care to be as informative and involved as possible - puts in far more effort than one would or could expect from a GP. I saw Dr Brooke Anderson once and she had perhaps the friendliest, sunniest disposition I've encountered in anyone! And similarly, just so helpful. I cannot recommend these two higher. Any notes for improvement would be perhaps for some of this care to be shown by the admin - though we can all understand they're probably rather overworked right now. Regardless, thank-you Carlton Family Medical!

The only reason I went there for about 6 years was my GP Dr Chow, who is a really professional, thorough and knowlegable GP truly a people's person. He is no longer there so I'm happy to say that I'm glad I don't have to go back there. The reception staff are the most rude, unhelpful, and unprefessional people that have ever come across, and I work in costumer service in the health area. I would never treat people the way they do it. You are already going there feeling unwell and go there to be mistreated by the reception staff. They are really lucky the practiotioners are nice. Really sad Dr Chow is no longer there but happy I don't have to see them again

My GP is friendly but reception is in need of overhaul. Sarshi was condicending and just plain rude ending our phone conversation abruptly after I was just a little confused about the confidentiality process regarding emails (it's clear the GPs and reception are not communicating to each other as a team) I get we all have bad days and reception takes on the brunt of a lot of stressed patients who are often not nice - but - if you can't be polite off the back of those factors then maybe one should re-think their career in medical reception. It's just an unpleasant experience for all.

I and my (disabled) son have been clients of Carlton Family Medical clinic for the past 18 months. We are very pleased with the kind, efficient and effective service we have received. Associate Professor Ralph Audehm is now our GP. Dr Ralph is the best GP we have ever had! He has been knowledgeable, thorough, respectful, interested, considerate, supportive, calm, very friendly, and humorous to us both, on our monthly visits. We are privileged to have him as our GP ! (And the CFM office staff have been most friendly and helpful to us as well!)

Marie Spiroulias is the best GP I have ever seen. She is incredibly thorough, reassuring, kind and considerate, always explains everything to me and goes above and beyond to care for her patients. I have been seeing her for almost 3 years and recommend her to my friends, family and patients (I have worked in HealthCare for > 10 years so have a very good radar for great vs. mediocre practitioners). Anyone commenting about charges doesn't understand that Dr's don't bill, it's the practice and the admin staff that do that - not the GP's!!

I needed to see a GP urgently because of an arm injury and they were able to book me in for the same day. Dr Tan was very professional and caring. He made sure I received a proper treatment by giving me X-rays and a referral. They were also very patient with my many phone calls back and forth, when I needed to figure out the following steps regarding my situation. It’s a bit pricey, but I had the option to claim part of the cost through my insurance. Great experience regardless, worth spending a bit more, highly recommend.

Called to ask about how to coordinate with european health insurance and how to book an appointment in regards to flying and having a head cold (no covid, it was start of march) and she started to explain to me i need a PCR test to fly - im flying to germany, and they require just a double immunisation to covid.19. i found it very unhelpful and had to back track to see actually if i need one, i know why people are getting confused about what to do when flying! very unhelpful. didnt book appointment.

I have been seeing Dr. Marie Spiroulias for years. I have since moved out of Carlton but still make the trip to keep her as my GP. I find her honest, funny, personable, smart and dedicated. I am very comfortable with her and feel as though she has never judged me. She is extremely thorough in her assessment and follow up. You never feel as though she is rushing you. I recommend her to all my friends and family. The reception girls are lovely and so is Anna in pathology. They're all a friendly team!

EDIT: 1 Star. They're refusing to take an appointment to wrap up my medical affairs until I remove my review. Extremely unprofessional. Holding patients hostage. Absolutely gobsmacked. My doctor is lovely (Ralph) but practice management needs a big overhaul. Sashi has no bedside manner talking to patients. "I'm going to put the phone down as I've got work to do" isn't the right response when trying to sort out a lost script... Argumentative and curt. No compassion or empathy.

I am a patient with complex chronic illnesses. CFM will always remain my clinic despite moving away from the area 5 years ago. Dr Audehm is uncommonly dedicated, kind, knowledgeable and compassionate. Both he and Dr Seychelle have gone above and beyond for me. The reception staff are also the most polite, patient and pleasant (the three P's! That's not a thing but I'll make it one now) I've ever encountered in a doctors office. It's truly refreshing and appreciated.

If you are looking for a doctor who is thorough and provides over and above service, I highly recommend Dr Maria Spiroulias. She leaves no stone unturned and is passionate about her work. My partner, son and I have seen many doctors from this clinic over the years and they have all been highly professional. CFM conveniently has a pathology service and I wouldn't hesitate to recommend this practice. for its doctors and services.

Unbelievable rude！ never shoot a score lower than 3 on google before. One minute talk the reception lady had already pointed me” no patient” “ a international student can’t fully understand her words”but I’m not even a student and she know nothing about the vaccine then ask me to ask my friends the full name!!! Really unpleasant. Luckily. I’m just looking for a place to get my vaccine done not illness. Or I may get worse.

If you are looking for a fantastic GP I would highly recommend Marie Spiroulias. She is extremely thorough, knows her stuff and is very caring. She has often gone above and beyond for me for example she called me at home with results when I had a period of bad health. I particularly like that she is always happy to explain results, provide additional information and never rushes you out the door. Best GP I have found yet!

I've just moved interstate and Carlton Family Medical was easily the best GP experience I've ever had. I was seen by the doctor promptly at my appointment time. I saw Dr Jonathan Tan who was knowledgeable and affable. I really felt like he listened to my experiences and needs as a patient. The receptionist team were very friendly and helped to fax a referral on my behalf. I'm glad to have found such a great GP!

I was a fan of Dr Lum who is unfortunately not at this clinic anymore and was disappointed with his departure. However, I have found Dr Ralph Audehm to be great and front desk staff are always friendly and helpful. My son gets his immunisations here as well, I prefer the younger asian nurse, she is very gentle with him. The regular nurse seemed very distracted once, could have been a bad day.

Dr Katryna has been the kindest and most understanding healthcare professional I've ever had the privilege of meeting. With chronic bouts of physical and mental illness, I've previously found it extremely difficult to find a doctor that truly listened to my issues and took my circumstances into consideration. I guess this is half a review and half a thank-you letter.

I’m also in the Marie Spiroulias fan club! I’ve been seeing Dr Spiroulias for more than 5 years despite moving across town. She is a fantastic GP, very thorough and follows up on everything. She’s also a lovely person and great with my two year old. The reception staff are efficient and helpful and the pathology clinic attached to the practice is also great.

Carlton Family Medical is very much my preferred medical provider and has been for many years. Dr Brooke Anderson is a receptive, empathetic and extremely competent GP. The front office staff and nurses are welcoming, friendly and efficient which helps maintain the relaxed atmosphere and alleviate patient anxiety! Highly recommended.

I was lucky enough to be fitted in to see Dr. Ralph Audehm for an emergency procedure on the same afternoon as the accident. Carlton Family Medical Centre on 88 Rathdowne Street, North Carlton is my healing centre. Staff at this centre are most helpful, most curtious along with their Medical staff who will make themselves available to help me get on with my healing when I have been ill. This team are certainly the healing team you go to.

Lady taking my bloods (older lady with short grey hair and glasses) was horribly abrupt and seemed like she wanted me to get out as soon as possible. Her idea of small talk was telling me how big and important Melbourne Pathology is. Very unpersonable, I will not be back. Dr Sarajane's attitude was poor too.

Depending on your GP it can be hard to get in, but the quality of care is fantastic and worth the wait. Maria and Brooke especially - remember you as a person and provide personalized high quality care. Even though I no longer live in the area I still travel to see them because it’s worth it!

Carlton Family Medical has been our GP for 7 years now; every doctor has been caring, helpful and professional. The practice does not bulk bill but the admin staff do process the Medicare rebate on the spot. Co-location of Melbourne Pathology is convenient. Plenty of chemists nearby as well.

I called in for the flu vaccine on the off- chance that I could get it there and then and I could. The receptionist was pleasant, the young doctor who checked things out was very professional as was the nurse who gave the injection. Very quick and no drama . Highly recommended!
