Travel early Oct 2022. No places to sit and wait ... only a 2nd rate cafe.. or a bar . There is very little choice of food at the cafe . Not pleasant to wait between country trains .. especially if you are a senior like us . Even a few park benches would help. This made travel from Brisbane to Canberra exhausting with a 5 hour transit wait . The new escalators run too fast .. we could not get on it... only OK for younger people .. so make sure you use the lift if you are a senior and need to go downstairs . Central seems mainly a station for suburban passengers and country/regional travellers are mostly forgotten. Good points were the large indicator board for train times and light rail very easy access . These trams go to the city, Circular Quay and some suburbs on two main lines. Trains to other suburbs are downstairs where large works are going on. Why not have a small lounge for regional train passengers who often must wait several hours? Better still perhaps NSW could look at rail stations overseas. Looking forward to the new country trains to replace the XPT and Explorer ... But I hear they are delayed and not likely to arrive before 2024. Current trains have no WiFI or phone charging points. Even first class seats on XPT & Explorer do not fully lay back. Train crews need to control the temperature in each carriage ... Ours got to 24 deg C which made me very uncomfortable. Crew said it was 23 and did nothing... despite the obvious difference with other carriages.

Super comfortable and quiet during COVID shutdown, New Year's emptiness. Central will be a monument to inter and inner city train travel if and when it gets finished. Feels like it's been a while. But the promise of a footbridge to the (Magic) Mortuary and Chippendale beyond that is hugely promising. Plus the myriad other promises they are no doubt working on. Butterflies and zebras and moonbeams... And fairytales, right? Ample amenities including a bank of vending machines the envy of any side street in Tokyo. The machine malfunctioned though but that's what machines do, right?

This station is old and beautiful but because of its age it can be very hard to navigate. If you need elevators they are around but perhaps not the most accessible as they can be a little further and semihidden. As someone who goes here often the layout makes much more sense after you visit a few times and it definitely is architecturally one of my favourite stations in Sydney. Beware though, its very busy and often there will be travelers trying to take photos of the ceiling in the middle of busy walkways so be aware of where you are walking.

This is my local station. It's generally clean and easy to find your way round as there's good signage. The staff are easy to talk to and helpful. If they aren't certain of something they'll find it out for you. I was unwell (hosp discharged me an hour earlier) the other day. At the ticket barrier I was asked if I wanted to sit. She got a chair out of a room, checked I didn't want/need medical attention, got me water, then checked every few mins till I felt up to walking home. She even apologised for the (not) uncomfortable seat!

Other than the construction that is happening at the moment it is very easy to get to where you want to go. Lovely and bright and airy despite its age. Constant communication over the p.a. system to let passengers know where they need to go is an added bonus. The new escalators that take you down from the suburban platforms that take you across to the inter city platforms are quiet and once you descend to the bottom it is very light and cool. No crowds to worry about once you descend.

Grand Concourse is located on the first floor of the Central Station. It is easily accessible from any entrance and there are a few of them, literally from every street surrounding this station. I use it to board the intercity trains. This place usually is not very crowded, however it may become busy during peak hours. It would be great to have a few benches for people to sit down as the only place where it is possible to rest is a cafe located here.

Classic Edwardian building full of Charm but a touch of Modern Architecture. Time hasn't Stood Still The Magnificent Building is coming into this Century. Arrived here via the Light Rail. The train station has a fair amount of history and contains multiple platforms. There are a number of eateries inside the terminal and a lovely memorial to the railway staff who fell during the Great War. It is rather pleasing how clean the station is.

  • Ken Bird

There is a lot of history in the Grand Concourse. There is also a lot of work being done to keep it functional. It was built in an era when things were built not only to be used but to be beautiful and grand. It provides a wide access pathway to city and regional train services. Under its high curved roof you will also find toilet, some food services and clear information for the traveller. A wonderful sandstone structure.

We got on at Victoria station, East Maitland. The staff organised ramps for our luggage, there was five of us in a group. They phoned ahead to Hamilton station, to make sure the ramps were available for us. When we arrived at Central station the ramps were there, staff had phoned again, to further assist our journey. Could not ask for better service. Well done to all staff. A huge thank you.

  • John Lang

Great place for people watching. Proactive policing has generally made it a much safer place than it was, and a positive to come from the pandemic is that the toilets are immaculately clean!! A reasonable mix of amenities, clear, concise information screens, a beautiful Edwardian era (1903) building that is getting a sympathetic modern add-on as part of the Sydney Metro Southwest project.

I'm forever going through Central Station and it's a core part of my life. I figured that I should finally give them 5 stars for all the great work they do. The staff are really good, they give top directions and the trains are on time and do great. Easy to get around and whilst they are doing renovations and repairs all the time; they manage it well. LOVE THEIR WORK and top station!

  • Luke Oxley

Very nice looking building from the outside and all the trains and schedules are very well labelled. The staff are very friendly and helpful and their announcements are easily understood over the P.A System. There was a lot of construction work going on while I was there, so it made the place slightly harder to navigate. Exits from the statistiom could be a little better labelled.

  • Joanne Ferguson

Central is going through lots of construction at present, so it's really hard to navigate yr way through the maze of corridors, & find where U want to go. Also, they have taken all ATMs out, which is really inconvenient. However, staff there, for Sydney trains, are super helpful & friendly, so that's a plus for the network!! Train was on time, so that's also good..

  • Barbara Shannon

Massive mess this afternoon with passengers from Indian Pacific blocking access to platforms for country trains. No systems luggage and people many frail, in everyone's way, a potential risk and hazard. If that's how the IP staff handle a simple boarding procedure nor sure what their on board service would be like. Very difficult to reach my train.

  • Erin Rowe

Looking great at Christmas this year and when I was there a brass band playing Christmas songs. The latest reno is looking good after the hungry jacks fire too, nice to see the place looking clean and presentable again. Little coffee cart near the intercity trains does good coffee, would recommend and even the toilets aren't too bad these days.

  • Peter Tylee

Great space! Even though this station has developed a lot over the last 60 years, it still has the bones of the old place I remember so well. It is kept clean, has good toilet facilities but, to be honest, it is lacking in good food outlets. There are helpful staff and a clear timetable board. Well served by other public transport and taxis.

  • Mel & Dave Brown

Track issues to the airport- noone had a clue what was going on. Station staff had no clue other stations were diverting people to central and we were told busses would pick us up from there. The general staff knew nothing. Spent 2 hours and $40 to get to airport via train... but couldn't so it cost us an extra $30 on top. No effing idea!

  • John Hamilton

The Grand Concourse is very beautiful. It will be interesting to watch if the grandeur of the Concourse and Platforms are kept rather than subjected to developers desires to pile high rise buildings on top of it. The NSW State Government will need vision and guts to preserve the space for future transport needs and future generations.

  • Geraldine Billing

There is almost no parking.Just a very few 15 minute spots and 2 disability spaces; and a no standing drop off, pick-up zone. Even with bus access there would seem to be plenty of space available for more 15 minute spots. This would make it easier to help the elderly or challenged people to get onto their trains with their luggage.

  • David Reidy

Central station and the Grand Concourse is beginning to look like the 21st Century hub that it should be. I’m sure that in the weeks to come there will be more options for food and refreshments to match the importance of the station to city and statewide travel. As always the staff are polite and extremely helpful on the most part.

  • Thomas Ning

Historic architecture, soon merging with the new. Mostly hosts regional and inter-regional services, as well as some peak West-travelling services. Huge screens help navigate you to the right platform. Also, West-travelling light rail trams depart from here. Connects to south concourse for suburban services via an escalator bank.

  • Fiona Beckett

The food at Central Bakery was fresh and we got service with a smile. Our train was over 2 hrs late to leave but Customer service kept us informed and offered us tea coffe and biscuits while we waited. Faults.... no newspapers available, no wi-fi, no free water bubblers, and no mobile phone charging available.

  • Bronwyn Wilson

Very clean, clean amenities, quiet lots of space, plenty of eateries. Good storage facility for luggage. Staff everywhere to help with enquiries, clear concise announcements. Light rail and taxis easy to access. Easy to interpret arrivals and departure boards, in all a very surprisingly pleasant experience

  • Brian Chan

The lightrail stop NEEDS MORE OPAL CARD READERS. There are sometimes so many people taking the lightrail and everybody's just held up because they need to tap on or off at the reader and they just start queueing because there's only one of the readers. But everything else is pretty cool and very open.

  • upgrtan glancalsmith

Always clean and the new construction is going to look great. I won't air my concerns if the train system here, but this station is a great interchange of Sydney trains. I think the last out is wonderful, with many sets of stairs lining Up with the train doors to minimise walking distance.

  • Amanda Shaw

Love Central station. Been catching country trains here for years! Lots of helpful staff. You can book your luggage through to your destination - check in is up to 30 minutes BEFORE departure. Luggage weight limit is 20kgs. Good coffee at the take away Cafe in regional trains area.

  • lachlan harris

The streets were dark with something more than night. (Thanks Raymond.) The Grand Concourse leads you out into Railway Square, a hub to all good places … Chinatown, Broadway and Glebe, George Street and it’s myriad lights. The new concourse and square is a delight at nighttime.

  • Vivienne de lacy peek

As I hadnt been there for several years, I was pleasantly surprised. The staff were very accommodating-especially when I didn't have a clue where to go. I hope transport NSW are proud of the team at Central. It was also very clean including the ladies bathroom facilities.

  • Glenn Mullaney

WOW, hadn't been for a while. Impressive! Movement made easier from Intercity to Suburban by uncluttering and opening space. You must look up and think 'European' ceiling. It's long walk for my aching back, no seats, I'm not sure how they can fix it? Maybe a 'travelator'?

  • Dale Fisher

It is not great experience there. Staff are rude hardly any rubbish bins and transporter users sit on the ground blocking pathways. Went to men's room it stunk and cleaners were standing in a corner laughing speaking their own language. Central is the worst hub in Sydney.

  • Dino

I recently had to travel to Sydney and caught the train I would say this is the best place to catch a train probably because it's the only station to catch a train from Sydney to Newcastle so we'll done outstanding. All jokes aside it wasn't a bad experience

  • Jelena Mossman

Navigation at the start was a bit off putting coming of platform 25, staff amazing with directions to lifts and main area to go to Country Link and light rail. Highly recommend public transport to Central station, with access to light rail in all directions.

  • Victor Bien

This hub for Sydney & NSW regional rail services has received a refurbishment in recent times. It's mundane for locals who might walk through it everyday but if you are visiting Sydney you might like to browse the precinct and have snack from an eatery.

  • Colin Wilkins

Our own grand central railway dating back to the early 1900's. Now being beautifully renovated and already looking great. Trains to the west, south and north regions as well as suburban lines makes this a central hub for Sydney commuters. ✅ …

  • Walter van Praag

Efficient and well marked station. Feels clean, safe and organised. Clean toilet and Cafe areas, help and ticket desks. Orderly and functional and hasn't changed much in the past 35 years apart from upkeep and modernisation, keeping its charm.

  • Robyn Rayner

So much nicer and cleaner. The best part is the better variety of food they serve. Much healthier and options for special dietary requirements. When you are travelling on the train for long distances it's nice to have something you can eat

  • Giovanni Mellisa Soesanto

Always have the lovely journey feeling looking at the grand ceiling. Busy and always ensure adequate time moving from one platform to another. With the recent construction, need to tap out and tap in (can use opal/ bank card) again to

  • Casey Walker

The improvements over the years has really come together. It looks good and feels clean. The staff are friendly. I found I had to hold on to rubbish so maybe it needs a few more bins. I think at night I’d be scared. Security guards??

  • Ray Y

While there are works going, signage is excellent, Sydney Trains have staff to assist everywhere and they are doing an excellent job in maintaining hygiene standards. I think we need to invest more in Trains and building up rail!!!

  • Suzanne Paul

A beautiful building. It is clean, well signposted and easy to get around. The staff are helpful. There are several nice cafes to stovk up for the journey. Toilets are numerous and clean. One of the better railways in Australia.

  • Joseph Bersinic

Its a busy place all the time. Lots of eateries and coffe shops. The public toilets need a makeover....The sinage for the rail services is very good and it you need assistance there are plenty of staff who are helpful.

  • Yolanda Reyes

Centrally located station obviously and close to city circle and practically all the amenities daily needs, aside from trains of course there others transports too, Central Park food alley enjoying the perks …

  • Binh Tran

Beautiful colonial era building with shops on the lower ground. Many bus stops are clearly marked on its outskirts. This area is normally busy but right now with the corona virus pandemic it is quiet and lovely.

  • Maraia Miller

No trams after 2-3am. Buses available throughout the night to outer city suburbs and far stretching transport to Newcastle, Mt. Victoria and outer West into late hours of the night/ early hours of the morning.

  • Buster Gonad

A blend of efficient new, keeping nostalgic old charm of the Steam age, as a visual delight. Make you wonder about all the people who've stood where your standing. War time farewells, Wartime reunions . …

  • Jun Herrera

Nice City Business Centre central train station. New structures are being constructed with the old heritage structure to augment with the new Sydney Metro lines. Great infrastructure for a great Sydney City.

  • Ohinur Makamay Mahmood Fahim

Central Station in the core of Sydney. I went there to go to Canberra through the regional train. I booked my ticket through railninja online. For more travel updates follow my Insta @ohinurmakamay

Central station:OK plenty of help around and outside on the concourse on Eddy Ave they have Coffee box ,they make an amazing cappicinno.but they have s few other fresh juice shop, more coffee shops

  • John Newey

The new Sydney Central Station Metro concourse looks amazing and its modern architecture blended in perfectly with the period grand old dames main hall. The metro is nearing completion in CBD.

  • Paul Johnson

Because of Covid Lockdown. Nobody was there. It was spooky. It's always a grand place filled with hustle and bustle. But not today. All the shops had been closed by the government. Sad really

  • Monika Scheffler

Love the new look of Central Station. Eateries have now reopened and the public facilities are clean. I enjoy watching the signs showing the various destinations of trains in all directions.

  • Graham Dickinson

Beautiful station. Spotlessly clean. Very friendly staff. I took the sleeper train to Brisbane and the station staff were very helpful explaining baggage options and where I could get food.

  • Michael Stewart

Need to put up signs too follow what platforms are what T number. E.g. T1 is platform 16... Yes you can see it here but in the labyrinth in the centre of the station nothing easy to follow.

  • Rena Loucas

Central station lives up to its name always busy. You can go anywhere in Australia by train from central. Love the new upgrade, not quite finished yet, I'm sure it will be spectacular.

  • David Judson

Love the look of this place. The high, domed ceiling. It is open and can cope with the large crowds passing through during peak periods. Large indicator boards give it a European feel.

  • Leagh McGettigan

Has potential, when finished will make travelling so much better. Now you just need to educate passengers on what it means to be considerate of other passengers. Good luck with that.

  • Tracey Davis

Having not used public transport in NSW for 32 years, the rail system has expanded greatly. I managed to find my way with the help of staff. 3 trains and I arrived at Windsor safely.

  • Thu Le

Still a grand old place, sad to see the demise of many of the great food and hospitality offerings. Outside trek for any food and drink. Great place to start your Sydney exploration.

  • Jon Valentine

Spacious concourse with exits to Elizabeth and Pitt Streets. It's relatively simple to get a tram (NFC/tap payment enabled) or taxi, though it's only a short walk into the CBD.

  • Kim Nguy

I love the old charm of this original station. It's currently undergoing renovation, maybe it's long overdue. But let's hope they keep most of the original building intact.

  • Tanya Morris

Really clean and tidy. So many helpful friendly staff to point me in the right direction. One staff member saw me struggling with my bag and pointed out the lift.

  • Paul Ayres

It's grand ok.... platform and walkway refurbishment is starting to look very good, easy to get around this station and plenty of screens to display the trains

  • Richard Proctor

A grim place, old dreary and uninviting. A popular gathering place for the homeless. As far as World Class Railway Stations go, it rates very low on the list.

  • gary lovell

More pleasing than it used to be, love the incorporation of new architecture over old. Beautiful. Can't wait until it's complete. How about some shops though?

  • Brendan Johansen

Hopefully with the works going on they plan the layout better. Down side is lack of toilet positioning. Have to walk one end to another. Not good for kids.

  • Aimée Nguyễn

I know it's very convenient but it's also easy to get lost as well. I do like their upgrade since it looks more modern, but then they're closed again.

  • Kong Wen Sheng (SHENGster 盛斯特尔)

Great station but I forgot to snap photos of the Grand Concourse. Landed somewhere and snapped a few photos before rushing off to find my destination.

  • Joydip Sinha

Sydney Light rail station for L1 route from central to Dulwich hill. The station is just outside the main entrance to Sydney central station building.

  • Peter Reeves

This is an amazing building. I reflect on the changes to the building over 50 years retaining its character while being updated to meet modern needs.

  • Imran Kazmi

Central Station is nice as you can catch a bus from there to travel to City Circle and places like that. Also the Station is constructed beautifully.

  • Colin McKay

Easy to navigate to the correct platform. There are plenty of places to tap on and tap off with the Opal card. Toilets are clean and well maintained.

  • Kourosh Keshavarz

I love how the work on the concourse is finally coming together. It looks pretty cool with new escalators. Finally coming into the 21st century.

  • MATTHEW WILLIAMS

Toilets need a good clean and upgrade. Although happy to see soap is still available via pump packs and didn’t have to wait to make the call

  • Jasper Pons

Long walk down the access tunnel interesting ceramic tiled walls and the mesmerising floor pattern helps take your mind off the long trudge

  • Rod Howarth

Bustling train Terminus in Sydney. Though don't expect any substantial food or beverages here while Covid rages, all outlets are closed.

  • Sandeep patel

There wasn't that much activities good for small kids but not teenagers. Advantage is that you can bring your own food for parties.

  • Living Life with Nikygold (Oyenike Oyedele)

It was my first time at the Sydney railway station. The platforms were easily accessible and there are lift for prams/ wheelchair

  • Peter Trevena

The ongoing restoration & new works are looking fantastic, a breath of fresh air that Central Station really warrants! …

  • TheBagmanandy

A marvel of human ingenuity and construction. Beyond exceptional. Would visit again as a pass through to get to anywhere else.

  • Bob Hayes

The new modern section is nearly finished. The old section links to the tram, take your compass for the labyrinth of tunnels.

  • Mary Drake

The upgrades are looking good but I'll be interested to see how they got with the Victorian look of the test of the station.

  • Rite White

The upgrade refurbishments are great. Easy the find train times. Plenty of food places from snacks to meals available.

  • Sandra Irwin

Really good. Enjoying some refreshments while I wait for my Interstate Train to Depart for Melbourne this evening.
