I am not a Tourist. I am a proudly local, who enjoys beauty and quality, with a lot of years in the hospitality trade. My first Impression after booking in at a the reception was the Parking Bay. The walls have never been painted. Looks like a building site. Why not make this more welcoming? A little bit of paint, please. Room was very clean, quality furniture and finishings, but had a very business like atmosphere. Was going to stay for at least 2 nights, but found the room slightly depressing. (I am not a fan of brown interior, so this is only applicable to me) My view was basically mountain rock. My mistake, I could have paid a few hundred rand more for a better situated room. TV channels had SKY news on repeat and a Sport channel on soccer. And I am a sport lover, but found this boring. Two more channels, One advertisement channel and something for kids. Why would I want to watch this? Could not find music, so I switched the TV off. The little freebies in the bathroom, water in the fridge and the slippers were thoughtful. Thank you. The dark passages and dark parking was scary on my late arrival. Lights had movement sensors..... If only I knew. At first glance it was a very dark walk to my room right at the end of the passage. The "key" card to operate the lights in the rooms and lifts sounds very practical, but not funny if you are women on your own in a fairly dark hotel at 10pm and the system is not reading the card. Skeleton Security, no visible staff to assist. Slightly scary feeling. And no, I do not drink alcohol, so was super aware of my surroundings. Cutting costs by minimizing items or services, spoils the treat of staying over. Your hotel was convenient and clean.

I had booked a sea facing room, on arrival I was informed it was a forest facing room. I had to pay in to change the room. I was unable to open the sliding doors, as the smell from the fireplaces in the bar made it unbearable to keep the doors open. I might as well slept next to the fire. On my return from dinner in the bar area, which not one of the restraunt host ladies even came close to my table to check if everything was acceptable, the reception guy shouted from his desk to where I was at the lift "is the room acceptable...) When arriving for breakfast at 8h20, I was met by a gentleman whom informed me that the breakfast was finished. He might have found that funny although I was not amused at all!! I requested hot water at breakfast, no teaspoon was added to the cup and sourcer... The rooms are clean and of good fstandard.
Location and views are what makes this place a must stay. Not to mention the size of the rooms, luxuriously large. The staff is exceptionally friendly and helpful. They have a restaurant that has lovely seafood for dinner. The breakfast was average.

Nice place to stay. But if there's something they need to improve is the sign of number of people inside the elevator, no sign or indication of how many people should be inside. I had a really bad experience when I wanted to go up, an old couple didn't want to be together with me instead and said: "HOW SELFISH YOU ARE! WE ARE INSIDE THIS ELEVATOR FIRST" I did apologize to them as I can't defend myself because I saw no sign of how many people should be in the elevator. I was wearing a mask, sanitize my hands, and doing covid restriction etc. I didn't want to accuse that was racist (as I look so different and I'm from SEA), but the fact I couldn't defend myself was something I regret. I hope no one will ever experience this, ever!

I came to the hotel for lunch to celebrate my grandmother-in-law's 80th birthday and couldn't have been happier with the service. We shared several plates, but my favourites were the prawns and the Hake fish. The view is amazing and it was fun to learn about the history of the hotel itself. It has been in operation for many years and has a very interesting past. The servers were the real standout. They were some of the friendliest servers I have ever had at a restaurant. Wonderful hospitality. Of course we told them it was Grandma's bday and they brought a complementary ice cream and sang with gusto! Not like in Canada, where they sing a half hearted "happy birthday", no, the servers gave it everything!! Thanks for a wonderful experience!
We have been going to "Chappies" consistently for the calamari which has always amongst the best we have ever eaten. In recent years, it has been up and down as the source of the supply/type seems to vary. In recent months it has become terrible, by comparison. One look at the pan today and we knew it hadn't been rectified.... still smaller rings, tasting a bit like gas with a bitter aftertaste. All of our food (calamari, prawns and Portuguese steak) was served cold. The star of the show is no more. Pity, as I would tell anyone who is going specially for the calamari not to bother!! Sad this has been allowed to happen to an iconic place and meal by the descendents

Chapman's peak hotel is a place a found by chance. I am so glad I decided to make this booking. Everything from the big welcome from the reception team, to the exceptionally clean and comfortable rooms to the restaurant service. What I love the most is the view from their sea facing rooms, their pool deck and the fact that the beach is but a few steps away across the road. The breakfast is delicious every morning and keeps me full until lunch time. I was even assisted to use the conference room for my all day meetings. This place is a must book again for me. Thanks to everyone for making my stay memorable.

Heard great things about the Calamari so we tried to make a booking but we're told they only take walkins. We went for lunch but there was a 2 hour wait so put our name down on the waiting list, and waited for a call back. We never received call, and the door lady gave us a bit of attitude, maybe that's the atmosphere of the restaurant. We went and grabbed a table 2 hours later, luckily there was one open for us. The calamari was unfortunately disappointing. Their saving grace was the service and attitude of our waiter, the view and acceptional cocktails.

Absolutely the most exceptional customer service I've encountered. The staff are absolutely friendly and really go out of their way to help and make you feel at home. The furnishings are fantastic and very clean rooms, a credit to house keeping staff. This location is within walking distance to a number of stores and a magnificent coast line. The kitchen and breakfast + bar, again exceptional and the food is brilliant. This hotel in my opinion easily surpasses the quality of most high end hotels. I will recommend all my friends to stay at this hotel, well done to all staff at Chapmans Peak Hotel.
Had a really wonderful stay at the hotel fof a wedding close by. Rooms are large and the view from the room (not all rooms have sea view) was breathtaking. Staff were friendly and accommodating. The breakfast selection was lovely and reception went out of their way to assist. Only thing to note, but not related to hotel itself, is that is sometimes very difficult to get an Uber in the area so consider renting a car if there for any extended period.

Overpriced room. Double room next to bush. The room smells like cigarette smoke and soap.it has no sunlight. It's R2000 a night. There is no coffee machine as advertised. Only a tiny kettle. The hallway stinks like soap. The swimming pool deck looks nothing like the photo's. There is 2 chairs with ugly green covers that is covered with literal shade cloth , the type you'd use for a shaded parking. They also won't move us to a better room. Rather stay at a guesthouse is my advice

Really good food at this traditional hotel with a large shaded forecourt overlooking Hout Bay. The flavours are Portuguese Mozambique and the menu is pretty simple: it's the place to go for calamari, steak and chicken served simply with chips or rice. The calamari is hands down the best we've ever had, and while there's a lot of good steak in Cape Town, the Portuguese steak -- cubes of fillet served in a vibrant tangy sauce -- might take some beating. You can't book, so get there early on busy days or grab a drink at the bar while waiting for your table.
The restaurant: Lovely atmosphere and great service. But, the mosquitos were insane, I mean nothing stops the restaurant from lighting citronella candles or something. It was quite packed, considering covid. The food, for the most part, was delicious, suculant, scrumptious and had the plating and scents to match. However of the meals had, the calamari was par standard. And the chocolate Sunday... it tastes like the low quality ice cream was used and those imported chocolate syrups used, so very disappointed in that.
Very nice spot for food or a glass of wine or two. The hotel is fronted by the restaurant which has ample outdoor seating all more or less in the shade. A sports bar to the side and main bar in the hotel behind the restaurant. Food is good and reasonably priced, made with quality ingredients. The welcome was warm and friendly and the staff are great. We were in town for a wedding and have eaten here twice and haven’t had to wait for a table. It’s always busy and that’s not a bad thing. You won’t be disappointed.
What a lovely food gem in Chapman's Peak. The balcony area of the restaurant has an awesome view of the sea. The food is really tasty, Portuguese inspired seafood and grilled meat. Really everything is good with the Portuguese chicken a real show stopper. The creme brulee dessert is one of the best I have had. Service too is on point. Highly recommended: go there!

Wonderful little hotel right on the edge of Hout Bay! Definitely worth the price. Room was very spacious and clean. The bed was comfortable and sheets were of good quality. All the staff were very nice and had a positive attitude. The food at breakfast was great. Both the breakfast bar and hot meals were delicious. Be aware, the hotel is right at the start of the Chapman's Peak drive, so the road may be busy.

I did not use a room but had a beer in the stoep. It was my 1st time here in 30 years. I still treasure that memory. The manageress was standing at the entrance to the hotel. She was looking smart and was proffessional in her approach when I complimented her and told her that 30 years later I was still impressed. The setting is awesome, overlooking Houtbay and surrounding mountains.

No complaints about the food.It was delicious and portions are quite big.The staff do not work as a Team which is sad as this could have a negative effect .Communication is also a concern. We made our concerns known to the Manager and I must take my hat off as not only did he deal with it immediately but also aporoached us on our way out to apologize for what happened. Its definitely worth a visit. We have to give them 5 stars on our next visit
Despite the terrible Covid 19 conditions placed upon the restaurant, the Calamari still tasted great. However, full marks to an extremely friendly and competent serving staff. They made what could have been an uncomfortable lunch visit into pleasant one. The only negative was the lack of many other guests. Somehow, the busy exciting atmosphere is lacking here and everywhere.

This iconic hotel will never disappoint in terms of location and view. It is situated at the start of the beautiful Chapman's peak drive. The hotel overlooks the mountains and the ocean. The balcony restaurant is well known for their food served in frying pans. The food is fresh and delicious. Patrons to the bar or restaurant will need to park on the road or in a public parking area across the road.

The prawns and calamari where disappointing. The 6 prawns had obviously been in the freezer too long as the tail end of the meat was dry and could not get it out of the shell. 7 pieces of calamari that was ok but had not been skinned and was like chewing elastic bands. We were very disappointed and won't go there again. The good old days when they were the best in town have clearly gone
Came here for dinner with the family. Ordered Chicken Piri Piri which was on special for R99. Was truly one of the best meals I have ever had. The sauce was medium strength and the chicken very tender. Will definitely come back again. Regret not taking a pic before I started eating but once I started I could not stop. Ready of the family also enjoyed their meals.
Always have great fish at the hotel. Nice views of the bay from the patio area. Staff are attentive, helpful and friendly. The calamari was so delicious, sweet and succulent! We had the lemon tart and eton mess for dessert and they were absolutely lovely! Large wine list and waiters are knowledgeable and can describe the wines and help you decide to your palate.
It is a good place specifically for me and those who like quiet places and nature, has a good view of an ocean, it is a good place for the first time married couple/honeymoon as it is in a less busy area, cool, you

Six persons sat on the outside balcony on a warm evening which was very pleasant. Our waiter was very attentive and helpful. The meals arrived at the same time and very well prepared and tasted great. However the salads were not prepared properly. All in all, a pleasant and expensive meal. And we do eat out a lot, so comparisons are always done.

I have been eating and making merry here for many years. In my student days the Calamari was to die for and today it still is one of my favorite dishes at Chapmans Peak Hotel. The staff are well trained and the service is excellent. Get a table on the patio on a warm day or inside - near the fireplace - on a cold winters day!
Lovely, old hotel but needs a bit of TLC. Unpleasant to have everyone smoke on the porch when trying to enjoy a meal without having the smell of cigarettes interfere with tasting the food. Location is nice with Hout Bay beach below and, although slow, service is passable.

Known to the locals as Chappies, and much patronised by the locals for its fresh seafood - have the calamari or fish of the day or both in combo - this is an enduring legend of a place. Only ever eaten here, never stayed, so can't comment on the hotel!

We had a wonderful lunch on the patio .The food was excellent especially my calamarie .Our waitress Amanda was amazing .My brother is mentally challenged and she even helped cut up his food .Such empathy and caring is a rare find.Pity Corkage was not a accepted as we had a special bottle with us for celebrations.
Stopped for lunch. Shown to our table and given a menu, then a short while later asked about drinks. After drinks ordered gave lunch order. Took a bit longer than anticipated but food ordered was 1st class. The waitress was attentive and took care is all our needs. Before our trip here is done we will be back.
It's a Cape Town institution: calamari at the Chapman's Peak Hotel. Excellent fish and chips, very good grilled with salad if you're watching calories. Service is always fast and friendly. Right now they are following social distance guidelines which is far more responsible than I've seen in most other places.
Didn't stay there. Had supper with family from Europe. They loved their sirloin and I had a burger. Very nice. Sweet sauce of the meat. Onion rings were not oily or greasey. Chips were good and not over salted.

We went for lunch. Top quality food, flawlessly prepared. We shared the Calamari and Portuguese Steak Pan and the Butternut and Beetroot salad. Cannot recommend highly enough!! Awesome vibe on the patio, looking down onto a picturesque street and over the Bay. Lovely classic old building.
Longstanding memories of this hotel from my childhood through to adulthood. The steak that I ordered was delivered as requested more rare than medium. The portions were more than sufficient and well presented. My sister was unable to finish and had to make use of a takeaway bag.
If you are looking for good local food, well prepared and presented with a view and service to match then you can't go wrong with Chapman's Peak Hotel restaurant. And by the way, they serve my favourite beer--Weiss by CBC !! Been there often and highly recommended. Cheers.
True Cape Town icon. This is one of my favourite places in the world for many different reasons. It never fails to deliver. I love the surf and turf. Fillet and calamari... Its thr best that exists. Amazing wines and amazing value. Authentic, consistent. Thank you
I enjoyed everything in Cape Town. Accommodation, Foods,Beaches,Robben Island and Transportations. Sea breeze and War ships in Simon's Town and Table Mountain views. Lastly Robben Island History is so amazing.

Excellent service. Food not so much. Soft cold calamari was not great. There were also more prawn heads than prawn tails on our dish. Not sure if that was a deliberate measure to insure visual stimulation… but one must wonder where those extra tails ended up!?

Lovely hotel with a wonderful restaurant. The hotel has photos of its history, which is admirable. The food was good, but it was a bit pricey though. We had a lovely view of the sunset while we ate dinner, and we enjoyed watching the soccer in the bar area.

We stayed for 2 nights and really enjoyed our stay. The rooms are spacious, modern, well equipped with wonderful views. The break fast was very good. Free safe parking great. Staff was friendly and helpfull. The restaurant in the hotel is also very good.
Great seafood, warm hospitality, beer on tap or very good wines to choose from - and you simply cannot beat this sea view (specially as gazed upon through a glass of excellent Rosé!). A much loved must do - for locals and foreign visitors alike.
We meet friends there for dinner and day outside. The location is very nice and the service was good. Unfortunately the food was just too bland. We ordered Portuguese style for but you would never have known as it was lacking spice and flavour.
Great restaurant, best calamari in Cape town. Fantastic whiskey selection. Would be nice if they had a wider selection of beer on tap. Nice and warm with fireplace everywhere - great place for a winter dinner. Wine selection a bit pricy though.

I really like the service here. The waiters/waitresses are friendly, and they accommodated us very well when we went there and it started raining. There's a Xhosa chap there who is an excellent host. And oysters for R30, hello.
Good restaurant with a nice view over the bay. They are famlus for the calamari but we ordered them both and they were cold. After our complaint they were hot and tasted very good. Also the bar is nice for a drink or two.
Lovely hotel in a prime position overlooking Hout Bay. Rooms are spacious and comfortable, sea-facing rooms have sensational views. Breakfast is excellent, and the restaurant is very popular, particularly for sundowners.

Lovely old hotel, sensitively restored, legendary calamari and chips, spectacular view of the bay from the wide stoep, and friendly service. A great place to have lunch before doing Chapman's Peak.
Amazing views of the mountain and bay area The hotel serves as a beautiful lookout point. It does get a bit chilly in the evening, so carry a jacket. The menu has a good variety. Although it has a
Noisy lunch venue after failing to remember that we had reserved a table. There is a smell coming from the drains outside the restaurant. Much better options elsewhere.
Best calamari ever. Super fresh seafood. Fabulous wine, service and atmosphere. Great food, casual dining. All Covid measures in place. Much space on glorious terrace.
Great food. Great vibe. A very nice pub with craft and international beers. A 5 star wine list. Brilliant staff and a perfect place to watch the sunset over Hout Bay.
