Been a member here for 12 years and have been blessed, challenged, taught, deepened, upheld, supported, valued, and loved, by God through his people my fellow parishioners. Fullest expression of Catholic spirituality in the Anglican tradition. Daily Morning Prayer, Mass, and Evening Prayer. Superb choir and organist. Excellent clergy and preaching. On Sundays, a booklet is provided giving everything you need to follow the service and participate at whatever level you wish. Sunday services at 8, 9, and 11 a.m.
I grew up in this church. They are definitely like family. It will feel grand seeing my church since I haven’t been back in my hometown (Chicago) for a few short years & embracing what it has to offer as an adult who is more wise & spiritually aware. Anxious, excited & overall ready for Sunday. Missed it more than I expected, actually.
Gorgeous music and liturgy, traditional high-church/Anglo-Catholic service. Sermons blend Biblical and literary scholarship and with applications to contemporary life. A warm, if somewhat formal, congregation. Congregation is multi-age, multi-race, multi-socioecomic class (at least as regards a typical Episcopal parish)
I visited during Open House Chicago. The details in this church...fro. the wood statues, iron work before the alter and that this was the first church rebuilt in this area after the Chicago fire. Thank you for the pipe organ demonstration...angelic soothing music. Incredible acoustics.
You can’t call yourself an Anglo-Catholic church and not be open for private prayer in the middle of the day. Church was locked both times I tried to visit in the middle of the week (once in late morning, another time in early afternoon).
Church of the Ascension welcomed me first as a parishioner and then as their seminarian. I have loved being a part of this beautiful liturgical tradition. Attending a service is like being transported to another realm.
A church that truly welcomes all people. It's not a club. These folks believe that God's table is big enough for everyone. A deep, moving, and relevant celebration of grace and community in this marvelous city.
The liturgy is very well done here, and the music is excellent classical and church music. The pipe organ here is also extremely good for the size of the church, and is just finishing up being refurbished.
Beautiful church with very high Anglo Catholic liturgy. Warm and welcoming parish. We don't live in Chicago, but if we did, this is where we would attend. We hope to return next time we are in Chicago.
Having undergone a tumultuous and very difficult time, it appears that Church of the Ascension is returning to its roots as an exceptional Episcopalian parish, with a strong beautiful music program.
If you're into Anglican worship in the Catholic tradition, Ascension should definitely be on your list. The liturgy is done with grace and dedication to detail, and the music is to die for.
Most welcoming community I have ever been part of! Grew up at this church and loved it. Was baptized and confirmed here! Planning to attend a service next time I’m in town.
Beautiful church. People are my second family and have embraced me as their own so quickly. It has been an amazing church. Very high church setting yet open and accepting.
I come here every Sunday just to be a part of the glorious music. What an amazing Bass section in the choir!!! And their choirmaster must truly be a master of the craft.
Beautiful church and wonderful music. Come hear some of the best singers in Chicago at the 11 am mass on Sundays.
A Beautiful Episcopal Church on LaSalle, a beautifully done liturgy and a really friendly congregation
I've never been to an Anglican Solemn High Mass and the service was absolutely beautiful and moving.
Very moving service. A full sensory experience with music, incense, chanting and ceremony.
