Here for the first time on a Saturday afternoon and I must say the service was definitely sub par, almost left. The bartender was apparently responsible for bar and food service (poor management?) but she appeared to enjoy serving and socializing with the male “regulars” seated at the bar. The rest of us here for food in addition to drinks took a back seat as far as service goes. Had to chase down the bartender to get a drink or refill. Overhead sound system was EXTREMELY loud, my husband even mentioned leaving as soon as we walked in and now I wish we had. Maybe it’s better during other times of the day, but we will never come back. Too many other more service oriented places to go in Indy! If you want to have a conversation with someone and good service don’t come here!

I was in desperate need of some fast calories after a rough morning at work. Knowing that Coaches Tavern was nearby saved the day. I only had a half hour to get my lunch before I had to be back at it, but they served me a hot, delicious tenderloin in exactly 14 minutes from the time of my order. The staff was excellent and friendly. The clientele was a mix of professionals and blue collar. It's a bar, so one would expect to see a lot of alcohol served at lunch, but it was mostly soft drinks. This tells me that my experience was not a one time thing. They obviously have a large following for their food selections. They have normal bar fare, as well as some higher end meals. A true downtown Indianapolis staple. You'll be glad you visited!

I likely will wait until I feel comfortable with staff not wearing masks, to come back Cheap drinks, and food if that's what you're looking for. In a decent spot. I just wasn't a huge fan of the lack of covid practices I saw, and seeing members of staff walk around maskless wasn't my cup of tea. It's very small, and social distancing is non-existent. (My first and latest visit there was a month ago) If social distancing and lack of masks concerns you, I might wait before enjoying a drink here. If it doesn't, and you like dives that have a lot of grungy character, a typical bar food menu (cheese fries were good), and fair priced drinks, then this is worth checking out.

I typically don’t make reviews, however the service I “DIDN’T” receive was HORRIBLE! I realize it was busy at moments however when the bartenders only service ONE SIDE of the bar that’s POOR customer service. I waited 45mins before I was even acknowledged. And during that entire time I was trying to get there attention by saying “ Excuse me, Hi, Could I order something please”. Once I finally got served 1hr later. I had to wait another 20mins to get someone attention to even go check on my food to see if it was ready. Then by time I got my food it was COLD!!! Meaning it has been ready and just sitting there. VERY POOR SERVICE!

My husband and I have traveled all around the USA. We have found good bar restaurants in our travels, but this place has been the best!! Sammy our bartender is so professional and had a few laughs with us! The cooks make the best food on their menu. Everything was mouth watering good!! The company that sits with you at the bar or outside makes you feel so at home! You don’t just meet locals but you meet everyone from all over at this Tavern. If anyone has anything bad to say they are probably just having a bad day. When you stop in town check this place out!

One of the female bartenders there adds extra to her tip after you’ve cashed out. I’m not talking a couple of dollars. She added an extra $20 over what I tipped her. From other reviews I’ve seen on Facebook and Yelp, she’s done this to many people. I saved my signed receipt and showed the discrepancy against my bank statement to an owner there, and they did nothing. That says a lot about their character and lack of concern for the customers who are supporting their business and paying their bills. I stopped going there long before all of the recent drama. Only gave it an extra star because the food was okay.

I usually go on Tuesdays and the music is great but I've been noticing that they add an extra dollar to every credit card transaction which seems kinda greedy to me. Makes me wonder do they just do that Tuesdays?...if so that's foul for plenty of reasons. Secondly they don't even tell you that and I think that's kinda foul too. I know the business of cc processing so I get it if that's just how they want to do it but it seems like they're probably even turning a profit on it when it's all said and done. To put that into perspective...small gas stations don't even charge you if you spend over 4-5 bucks??

I started going to coachesover over a year ago and it has always been the best experience. The staff, especially Amber, has always been great and extremely friendly. Having worked in restaurants/bars for a long time myself, I can truly appreciate when I see the owner making sure everything is running smoothly and customers are having a great experience. I don’t even think twice about where to go, to either have a great dinner or quick drinks after work downtown Indianapolis!

The drinks were great and well priced. However the bearded bar back was extremely drunk, kept play same song (purple rain) over and over, music was way to loud as well. We would have loved to stayed but he made it very uncomfortable. We were trying to watch derby race but music kept interrupting race. Very sad because bar has amazing potential. Bright spot was bartender the girl can hustle and deserves a better team.

The service wasn't that good and the drinks were Chicago priced here. These must have been the reasons that this was the only local bar we could walk right into and a get a drink on on Final Four game day. The Bloody Mary was nice and spicy but you didn't get it dressed up with at least a celery stick. It was straight from mix and into a plastic cup. Next time in the area I'll go somewhere else that's crowded.

The breaded tenderloin I had was one of the best I've had. The breading was well-seasoned, crispy and just thick enough. The meat was about 3/8 inch and very tender. The chips that came standard were BBQ kettle chips, which was a nice surprise. The drinks were reasonably priced and a good size. The people with me ordered burgers and everybody changed their plates.I will definitely come back.

  • Michael Mongon

They have beer, angry waitresses, and loud noise. To be fair, the waitress behind the bar was nice, and we did catch other other during a shift change. We were their for afternoon drinks and it should have been an easy job. We were checked in on twice in 3 hours and had to continue to go to the bar to get service. There are a dozen other choices for drinks and better service steps away.

I was in town for a conference in Indiannapolis and a group of us decided to check out some of the local bars. Coaches is a nice quiet place for a group of friends to hang out. The bar tender was very relaxed and friendly. There is a pool table in the back corner, which my friends enjoyed using. The prices for food and drinks are very reasonable. Overall, a good experience.

  • JT Coffee

Coaches is an awesome place. I don't even want to hear it from those who say they had a bad experience. From the owners to the staff, they are terrific people. The food is good, the ambiance is great. Of course, it isn't the same since one of their best bartenders, Abby, left, but the others are nice too. They have a "Cheers" like atmosphere. Always great times there!

Coaches Tavern is a great place to eat. They have great food, we had pulled pork sandwiches and fries, and the waitress was amazing. She was the only one working that night but took care of us with efficiency and a smile. Our only complaint, the music was too loud to eat inside, so we took our food outside. Luckily it was a nice night to be outside.

  • Nick Simmons

amazing place. Great establishment! No matter if your getting a drink after work or enjoying a night out on the town, you will enjoy this place. They offer drink specials, seating outside for a summer night, and the music is excellent! They also have a Touch Tunes jukebox. If you get the app you don't even have to leave your seat for great tunes.

Nice place. My girlfriend and I had a table and chair pushed into our table when a fight broke out, Spilled our drinks everywhere. The bartender and staff were great, they made us new drinks and made sure my girlfriend was ok. Real good people. We would definitely come back if we lived closer.

  • Logan Sutton

Great little sports bar. Cool atmosphere with TV's playing different games lined up behind the bar. Staff was excellent and responded to drink orders very quickly, even after business picked up and the place was full. If I'm ever in Indy again, will definitely make this a return visit. …

Hands down my favorite restaraunt/bar in Indy. The staff is so attentive and quick with service. The owner is actually there overseeing everything making sure customers are satisfied. They even have a tiny Frenchie mascot named Tesla who is adorable. Highly recommend Coaches tavern.

  • Dustin Weinbrecht

Decent little spot in downtown Indy. Not very big, so not great for large parties. Food and Service are about average. The atmosphere isn’t great and limited seating at the bar. Not a bad place to stop for a quick bite and a couple drinks, but also far better options near by.

A co-worker and I were in town for a conference. We are from NY and wanted to find a spot that had some home town feel. We happen to be in town for Hip Hop night at Coashes. It was such a great time. Old school hip hop, friendly people, no drama, just people having fun.

  • Shannon Coe

I ordered the teriyaki chicken wings and they were delicious! Fresh, hot, and just tasty. Service is friendly but you do have to wait in line when it gets busy at the bar. But nobody seemed to mind and it was a good atmosphere. Live music on Tuesday nights.

  • Pratik Paddle

This place gets packed...there is a more urban crowd which is good, because we were looking for hip hop music. The booze isnt that expensive. But there was a guy rolling up a doobie out in the open, which was weird....we grabbed a round and left...

  • Shannon StJohn

we are always looking for new places to go...food was good which is why I went with 4 stars..service was fine but no greeting, no smile, nothing welcoming at all and def no come back and see us..very dry just kinda like here you go, didn't

If you tip well they’ll treat you like royalty, if you don’t they won’t. Really good wings, really good sliders. Just overall good bar. TouchTunes allows you to play whatever music you like, DJ on Tuesday nights.

The old lady bartender is awful and over serves, no matter the level of intoxication or level of danger. She's gotta be costing the company tons of money giving away drinks. Could be better without her.

A nice small place to enjoy some food and cheap drinks before the Pacers game. They have have really good burgers, but the chips are a little off. Definitely recommend the fries, a way better option.
