It is Gathering at the Fountain. Sandwiched between St. Charles and Magazine Streets, surrounded by an old neighborhood, the park with plenty of open space appears to be the a shared, common playground for the folks and their dogs living in the area. Lukas and I spend several times waiting on the corner of Race and Camp Streets for the RTA bus going to Canal Street. During this time we studied the action across the street. This corner was one block up from St. Vincent’s Guest House where we were staying at Race and Magazine Streets. On two other occasions we hike diagonally across the park heading to St. Charles Tavern. We see joggers traveling down the median path shaded by oaks in the middle of Camp Street. Groups of people on bicycles stop to take a break here. There are a lot of people walking. Single walkers and small groups of walkers trek to this green space in the Lower Garden District. Some people have their dogs on leash. Several dogs are off leash running freely about, jumping into the fountain pool, catching frisbees, just having a good time. We did not witness any dog fights. If you are staying in the area, kick back and relax on one of the park’s benches. Take a rest, chill out, and be mellow.

We have gone to this park hundreds of times in the past few years, since we live nearby. We want to LOVE it, but we don't. It's not a very clean park, and we have small children that like to play in the grass. Too many dog owners, some with herds of dogs, and not enough plastic bags. For that reason, we would recommend it for dog owners more than parents. The big fountain is lovely when it runs, which is most of the time. The trash cans rarely seem to get emptied, though, and the benches need a cleaning. On school mornings, the students of the International School of Louisiana are filling the park with life and laughter, which is a welcome addition to the dogs. >> Update: There is a second fountain that just got restored by a group of citizens after decades of neglect. Amazing!

Love this park. It is big enough that you can get a decent walk or run in here. It has quite a few big trees that you can stand under for shade. You'll often find many dogs in the park. There is a fountain that the dogs love to play in. Watching the dogs live their best life is always fun. The grass being kept at a decent length is questionable, but it is NOLA...they will get to it when they get to it. You will find music and shows in the park randomly on the weekend. It is a beautiful neighborhood park. It is maintained fairly well and the locals are friendly and usually up for a chat, if you feel so inclined.

The Coliseum Square Park was the centerpiece of a New Faubourg built over Madame Delord-Sarpy’s plantation. The three acre park was designed in 1806 by a French Architect. It has been remodeled over the years and is still a lovely spot. The park is shady with a lot of seating. Large open areas allow children to have fun playing but there is no playground equipment as such.
Playground
Lots of grass to play on, no playground equipment
Restrooms
No public restrooms
Dog-friendliness
Dogs on leashes are allowed
Picnic area
Lots of benches to sit and eat

I like this park but I don't have any illusions that it's the nicest--or even one of the nicest--in New Orleans. They've been working on landscaping and an broken water feature for ages now. This mostly amounts to large piles of debris and a bunch of orange temporary fence to let you know that they were once doing work and someday again plan on maybe revisiting that work if they feel like it. It's clear that the groundskeeping crews are not focused on this small park but nevertheless it gives a nice spot of shade if you're wandering Magazine Street

The weather, should you not be familiar with New Orleans' weather can change drastically and quickly. The air was humid as heck, but the park was beautiful to look at. Then later, within minutes, it was like a deluge... In the mornings, there are a few people walking their dogs there. Most appear to bagged the ... Although there was one lady there apparently every morning, that let's her dogs run about, unleased and doesn't mind her dogs too well either as they run out barking at other dogs being walked... She has about 6 to 8 of them...

What can I say, I love this park. It could be a little bigger, but this is a city after all. Lots of space for people to lay out, dogs to run, and children to release some energy. It's home of the Coliseum Square Park fountain as well as Lafon fountain. Both are wonderful places to rest and enjoy the ambiance of this part of the city. The native oak trees are beyond magnificent, and the locals are wonderful. if you are looking for a short retreat or a daily getaway, this place will do just fine.

Very clean for a seemingly heavy foot traffic park, I've been frequenting often lately and it's never crowded, the people keep to themselves which I love almost as much as how hammock friendly it is. I bet you can't find me.
Dog-friendliness
The park is friendly to any dogs, The humans are very considerate of the lil dookies but the dogs seem to act like they from Metairie.
Picnic area
Some picnics are different picnics. Don't like it, look to the stars if you're so fancy.

Took my dog here in the middle of a hot afternoon and it was lovely. People were letting their dogs cool off in the huge, shallow fountain and it was surrounded by benches to hang out in the sun and about a block or two of green space underneath huge, amazing old oak trees. People were scattered around on blankets or not, just reading or chilling out. Very cool. One guy was even in a hammock (not sure if anyone was going to yell at him for using the old trees but it seemed ok)

Near "Magazine" and "Race and Coliseum" Streets (one (1) block away... and near "St. Charles " Av., New Orleans (NOLA), Louisiana. Coliseum Square Park features two (2) "Water Fountain Display", and Park benches - however, no nearby "Public Restrooms " It's fantastic for "Meditation" activities ** but for the lack of Restrooms, and operating "Drinking Fountains"... I love this place mostly because my dog loves this place oh, she has a great big fountain in so many other nice dogs to play with. I also love this place because it holds a special place in my heart, I hung a tire swing about 5 years ago and it's still swinging today, strong as it ever was

I’m not sure why I haven’t been to this park before but what a lovely find in the middle of the city! I went for jazz in the park on friday and it was absolutely lovely. There were families, couples, friends all enjoying the music dancing and chatting and eating and drinking.

  • Nikki Smith

Very cool trees and fountain if I'm thinking of the right park. If it's not the trees and fountain one then there's a gorgeous castle like structure that's a great photo shoot spot with horse and carriage rides near the entrance that take you around the French Quarter.

There was a free concert on a beautiful afternoon. This park is the heart of The Lower Garden District. The park is surrounded by significant historic/architecturally beautiful homes. Old live oak trees and a working fountain are additional delights.

  • Toni Lamerson

My son and I travel this Dog Park often. This is a really clean park, however it appears theres some ongoing construction that has not been completed and also...the mud and sometimes flooding during rain that lines the parking spots is a bit much.

  • Laura Scott

This is my favorite park on this side of the city. It has hosted movie nights, there are always people and families there, and I always feel safe. The trees are lovely, and it's a great place to go and relax just around the corner from my house.

  • Randall G

It's a nice little park. Nothing much there, just some benches and maybe a couple of water fountains. Not where you'd spend a day, but not a bad spot to have a picnic (If you want to sit in the grass) or to rest while walking around town.

  • Eric Vazquez

Great park. Small in space but big on personality. Two water fountains ⛲that kinda cools the breeze. Great place to bring your dogs or have a picnic or a kegger. There is soothing for everyone at coliseum park. …

Large open space, beautiful old live oaks, an tire swing and a very nice large fountain. Just watch your step in the grass, not everyone picks up behind their dog. Even though bags are provided

  • Papa J

It's good to bring dogs to run around. They have some benches that people are always sitting on. The water features are operational only intermittently. Lots of shade if that's what you need.

  • Dana Griffin

It's a nice place for a short walk or picnic. We let our dog splash around in the foutain, and he loved it. I saw a few folks with hammocks, so I'll definitely bring one of those next time.

  • Debbie Mcgaha

Its was nice has a tree swing can walk dogs children can run and played. Beautiful scenery nice place to take pictures old oak trees circle water fountain really nice

  • Kris Hulsing

Large enough park for a gathering, bench seating around the fountain and on the fountain sides. Grass not cut and a lot of dogs about. Lots of trees for shade.

  • Brandy Reynolds

It's a great space to have a coffee and sit, read, meditate. Just be aware many of the dog owners use it as a potty park and don't clean up after themselves.

  • Mary Michelet

This is a very quiet park with plenty of space to unwind. It got a beautiful water fountain and plenty of shade. It's in a great area and feels pretty safe.

  • Jake Grzelka
