The trails at Deems are pretty fun to hike. There is an option to go around the hill in a long ‘circle’ without much elevation change. There is a connected trail that goes up to the top with a great view of the valley. The trails are pretty rocky, but all the trails in the area are the same. I quite enjoy the hikes which are about 5 miles each. They recently did work on the non-trail pet of the park. There is a nice playground for elementary aged children. They recently opened 2 pickle all courts with lights for morning/evening play. There is a tennis court and sand volleyball courts as well. The central feature is 2 soccer fields that are on 2 different levels (one at a very slightly higher elevation). Short story, this is a very nice park that’s been upgraded with more work being done (as of February 2021)!

I began my hiking adventures here, as it seemed to be an easier climb in comparison to some other locations. This is a good place for beginners who want to start hiking around the Valley. Even better, they have a park at the base of the hills. You can bring your kids out here to play some basketball or soccer. Bring your dog too, cause there is a dog park here as well! The view from the top of the hill is amazing, but be very careful near the edges, due to small rocks and odd slants, you may very well fall. Be very careful about your surroundings at all times. All in all, I love coming down here and I highly recommend this place to any nature lovers.

Nice trail system with various degrees of difficulty for avid hikers and (fairly technical) mountain biking. Valley and Four Peaks views from the top. Birdwatchers will be rewarded with pair of owls who has nested in the area for several years, red tail hawk, nightjar and others. Coyote and javelina sightings add to the mix. And, of course, starting in April/May, rattlesnakes. The park also features soccer fields, tennis, pickleball, and basketball courts with lighting to allow night activities during the hot summer months. A playground, restrooms and dog park with small and large dog pens complement the offering.

Deem Hills is (or should I say was) a hidden gem in the Phoenix Park and Rec system. Up until recently it was relatively unknown. That is changing now that people are discovering the awesome trail system for hiking, great wide open grassy areas for relaxing, beautiful mountain views, great amenities like newer playground, tennis court, etc. We tend to use it more for mountain biking with our 7 year old son who is just discovering how to hit the dirt trail. Great lightly used desert trails around the outskirt of the park for learning how to mountain bike too. All in all a really awesome park!

Great city of Phoenix park. Beautiful location, lots of parking, rugged and scenic trails. Lighted basketball courts, restrooms, grass fields, dog park. Wouldn't recommend mountain biking the trails unless you are an expert, very technical and difficult. Although a good option for riders is ride north along the sidewalk to the end, take the trial to the canal. Then ride up the steep hill if you can to the gate. Through the gate a few yards join the Circumference trail on the right and climb then downhill back to the park. Great workout and not terribly technical.

This is my favorite spot. Honestly, I shouldn't review it... I should keep it secret but I suppose I'll be nice and share. The dog park is awesome, clean and fun. One side for big dogs one for small dogs lots of fun. Kids park is great. Fun not to crazy dangerous for littles but fun enough for big kids. The drinking fountain is FREEZING COLD, its like an oasis. Lol the field is big. Soccer sized nice walking path around it. And my favorite bit is the hiking. Definitely do some hiking. Only issues are construction but that forgivable...

I have always loved to this park for the great hiking trail. The trail takes about 35 minutes to get up hands down. There are some portions of medium intensity incline. I like to run and walk the trail for some added exercise. You get a great view of the city from the top of the mountain, but the few that does not include buildings is only desert (see my picture of looking North). There is a park for kids, giant soccer fields and a sidewalk and composition tire soccer fields that is great for walking around.

Deem Hills has everything but a splash pad! There are a few trees for shade in the dog park. A good variety of plants, grass, sand, and rock in the rest of the park that make it pretty, shaded, and good for exploring with children. The trails are easy to moderate with beautiful views. The sidewalk trail through the park is nice when I want to push the stroller instead of hike. And the playground has a 2-5 year old section as well as a 5-12 yearold section, both with sand and rubber particle turf.

Great rec area! With dog parks, amazing hikes, quiet spaces this place has it all and very well maintained. Sunrises are perfect when they come over the mountains with a few hot air balloons. Most folks are decent enough at the dog park and worth while. However, I don't like the small parking area, many times there are neighborhood soccer games and all the families with giant SUVs combined with hikers and dog part attendees turn this place into a proverbial rock concert during certain times.

Great hiking spot with many criss-crossing trails giving a variety of route options. East parking lot is the less trafficked. Going north (right) from the parking lot you can: Circumference trail to basalt to ridge and back to circumference gives you a nice 7.5 mile jaunt. South side is exposed to developments, so sight and sounds of housing. Can definitely see snakes on the trail so keep an eye out. Several large ant colonies around the east parking lot. Minimal shade.

Enjoy the park sufficiently to drive the extra distance from home. It is large, well maintained, with separate areas for small and large dogs. Never have any dog problems in the small dog area. Built on the side of the hill it has slope to exercise my dog's hind legs. Started taking my two dogs here shortly after this park opened last year, and it was great rehab for my Westie's ligament problems. Great for walking the trail afterwards.

  • Zack Poore

Great park with multiple uses to enjoy the outdoors. I enjoy bringing my dog for some much needed exercise to the dog park here. The dog parks are very maintained with constant upkeep. The people that frequent here are great for the most part, I have come across one or two guys that could definitely be told stop returning to the dog park, but that's life. All in all I've enjoyed Deems Park and totally recommend this park to anyone.

  • Joshua Tanner

Great park. Playground areas are a lot of fun and usually not too crowded. Great walking areas: paved and unpaved. Dog park, basketball, huge soccer fields. Sun shades on the playground aren’t great so sometimes the playground gets a little hot during summer in certain places. There is a lot of wind up here as well and I wish there were more covered pavilions.

This is almost like an extension of my backyard my family and I are here so much. No bathrooms so far, but there is a water fountain. Many trails for different degrees of difficulty. I'd say some steeper ones are bit rougher or less maintained, but I like it the way. Evenings and early morning are my favorite time, but full moon walks are also amazing.

  • J B

I met my friend on a recommendation for a good hiking area. I was very amazed. The trails are very well maintained, along with beautiful views of the city at the top. The volcanic rocks in addition are great to see. The parking lot provided more than enough ample space. Just remember to always bring water! Definitely plan to come back soon.

  • Michael Fox

Great set of trails for all skill levels and needs (flat to steep incline), wonderful grass area for soccer, football and more, small and large dog park that is fully fenced, basketball and tennis and pickleball, sand volleyball, children's play area and numerous BBQ areas that are covered. Wonderful spot in the North of Phoenix.

  • Krystal Amundsen

The whole area is awesome! Beautiful sunset views from anywhere in the area, and especially up the mountain trails. Playground, dog park, soccer fields, walking paths, basketball court...Awesome for all ages and the whole family! It also has toilets (no doors, FYI), drinking fountain, and picnic table under a ramada.

  • Angela Romain

What a pleasant surprise. My first time hiking out here and it's only 20 minutes from my house. The terrain is fascinating and though the trail can be rough at times, it's amazing that for the most part, the trail is in great shape. The desert flora is present as well and the views are quite nice in every direction.

  • Farm Daze

The dog area itself was very nice. Meaning that the ground was mostly free of messes and looked and smelled fine. The water bowls seemed pretty clean also and the visitors mostly kept track of their dogs and stopped any issues before they escalated. I plan on going to this park more often now that I found it.

  • Rappel Arizona

Wonderful spot for hiking, sports and fun playground. We enjoy climbing on the fake boulders here and playing in the sand. Playground equipment is nice and there is a small set for toddlers. Hiking options are great as well. Parking lot gets full quickly especially on weekends during soccer games.

  • PLP

Great dog park with long hours and lights for night time. Plenty of parking and 2 gate entry makes getting in and out a breeze. Once in a blue moon an idiot will bring an aggressive dog, however, it is rare. Other than that, most dogs play well together and have a blast. Really love this place.

  • Kyra Schifferer

Today I hiked the Ridgeline trail..it was about 4 miles. The trail is rocky and goes up and down in elevation a few times but not extreme at all. Great for dogs and kids. Next time I am planning the trail labeled C which does the circumference of the park. Amazing views see photos.

  • Skyler Robinson

Great park for the doggos, but they don't have much options for water. We end up bringing lots of water for our doggos and all the other doggos around.
Restrooms
One stall of each for the males
Dog-friendliness

Picnic area
Plenty of shaded green areas

Attempting Deem Hills after 5-6 years, this time for a trail run. took the Circumference and Ridge line trail, nice experience, tough trail, missed many times to follow the track ended up doing close to 10 miles. Well maintained trail, would come back again …

  • Little Jake

Nice trails. Polite hikers. Good opportunity to explore on foot or bicycle. Pickleball courts. Restrooms. Drinking fountains. Dog parks. Plenty of parking. Everything is nice and clean. Particularly beautiful after some rain. Plenty more attractions than I listed.

  • Rich Menzel

LOVE this place! Nice spot at the peak for recreational activities haha. So much wildlife and friendly people. Best place to take a break from everything. If you make it to the peak by sunset it's an unforgettable view. The Pitty approves too.

  • Steve Wagner

An outstanding place with great facilities, hiking, dog park, fields and courts. This spot is a gem and one I find myself visiting frequently. Very clean and modern. If you hike, it can be technical in a few places, but the views are worth it.

  • Aaron H

Beautiful trails through mountains filled with wild flowers, desert shrub, and a variety of wildlife. You'll see a lot of cool insects if you look for em, as well as lizards and snakes. It's also kept clean and very natural looking.

  • Drew Ament

Great park for kids of all ages! Play areas for multiple ages - soccer fields - basketball courts. There is also some nice trail heads... nothing too hard. Just some nice hikes. Area is always clean - bathrooms are kept decent.

  • Calcott Volunteer

I love bringing my dog here! There are occasionally aggressive dogs or owners who have a toy they only want there dog to play with but normally it’s a good crowd. The area feels relatively safe as well and the scenery is nice.

  • Susan Walsh

I try to hike here a couple of times a month. The trails are well maintained and hard enough to get my heart pumping but not so hard as to be dangerous. There's a great dog park for puppy socializing and a playground for kids.

  • Shawn Waling

Awesome trail and beautiful scenery! We did the ridge line trail and it was about 4.2 miles total and took about 1.3 hours. The trail is maintained very well and is overall not a difficult trail at all. Highly recommend it!

  • Kerry Boyce

Nice park with two separate dog play areas, soccer fields and play ground equipment for the little one. Main attractions for me are the hiking trails. Lightly traveled, well maintained and enough variety for my workouts.

  • Wendy Waters

We are not from the area and we found this on Google and it was GREAT! We got there and there was nobody there, we took the babies in and they played and ran and loved it. It’s very large and very well taken care of!

  • Jeffrey El Jefe

Great for hikes and horses. Lots of snakes...keep pets on a short lead during snake season. Not as enjoyable for bike rides...better places. Has restrooms and water fountain at the west parking lot by the dog park.

  • Lam Rom

Easy to moderate level hikes. The trails are busy. Most people have their dogs on leashes, be prepared for the ones who don’t or can’t control their dogs. Great views of the city and of the north desert.

  • Chet Provorse

I sent off Cave Creek Rd entrance .Found Trail uninteresting without cacti or terrain changes. Have since be told it’s much better if entered thru Stetson Drive entrance North of Happy Valley rd

  • George Barouta

Beautiful scenery. This park is well equipped, has a kids play area, hiking trails, and of course 2 dog fenced in areas with water fountains and bags (donated) to help pick up after our dogs.

  • Chloie Stelton

This park is beautiful and has something for anyone who enjoys the outdoors. The soccer fields are well kept and the playground equipment is in good condition. This is a great place to hike.

  • Matt B

Great park and excellent hiking trails. Pack in water if it’s a long hike, even in the winter. You never know what will happen. An injury or a fellow hiker may need it. Always an adventure.

  • Kimball Morejon

Deem Hills is great! Beautifully maintained soccer fields, lots of great trails, fun for dogs at the dog park, next to amazing desert scenery… be on the lookout for desert critters though!

  • Romeo

Awesome trails and views! Well worth the visit and trails are open to foot and bike traffic. Varied trail difficulty means that there is something for everyone. And the views are awesome!

  • Kayla Kar

Love this park! There's a fenced dog park, fairly easy trails with beautiful views of canal to the East, and green soccer fields. Typically not busy, especially during the week.

  • Case Hill

A nice place to take a short walk. A place with great view and not difficult to finish the entire trail, around an hour and 30 minutes are required for the 6 miles of walk.

  • Tom Curran

Great hiking spot! Great place for dogs who like hiking. Might be a bit challenging for older dogs, or smaller dogs, but it's perfect for my 16lb energetic terrier

  • Thomas Shouse

Nice clean hike on well marked trail. Didn't see a single snake. The trail is a circumference so you can't get lost just keep walking. They have a dog park, too.

  • Sydney Adamson

Love the circumference trail at this park, such a beautiful place to hike. Lots of incline and the terrain can be pretty rocky, so I recommend hiking boots.

  • M

Nice well maintained and well marked paths. Tons of trails to explore. Good for trail running but not particularly earthshaking for sightseeing.

  • Justin H

Great little park with a lot of amenities! Different kinds of courts and fields, even a dog park. Parking can get tight during busy times
