I really like this place! Everyone at the front desk is super friendly, the bathrooms are CLEAN, and there is a great variety of equipment. It can get packed (like after work around 4:30-5) but there’s always something you can be doing while you’re waiting on a spot or piece of equipment. Lots of different classes. I’ve been a gym nut forever and this is one of the best ones I’ve joined. EDIT: I don’t know what’s happened in the last 2-3 months but so many of the people coming here now (new members?) have ZERO gym etiquette. During peak times it’s super busy and getting a machine sometimes requires waiting- which is understandable. Recently you have people using one machine, and placing their personal items (cellphone, water bottle, keys) on another so they can switch machines between sets or hold that machine until they’re done. WTH?? I’ve experienced this multiple times and have watched other members experience the same thing. I also watch small groups of people (3-4) congregate around a machine not using it - then when you ask if you can get on- they say they’re using it. I know all types go to gyms, and especially during peak times it will be hectic. But in the last 10 days or so, I’ve literally just walked out 3-4 times because I can’t get a halfway decent workout in. Why do I pay $43 a month for this?? I wanted to speak privately to a manager (just told desk staff it was about my membership) and was informed one wasn’t available. I left my name/number. Even filled out the online form. It’s been a week and I haven’t heard back from anyone. I’m glad people are wanting to get in shape- but when you start getting a bunch of jerks in one place and you can’t get what you’re paying for, it’s probably time to go somewhere else.
I like this place because it’s location is convenient. However, there are some drawbacks especially if you are an older person, have a disability and you actually need to park close to the facility during peak hours. During the busy times all of the handicapped spaces are taken, quite frequently by vehicles that do not have a handicapped placard visible. They usually don’t have a disabled plate either. This is one of those issues that few able people ever think about but it’s a real problem for a lot of folks. Disabled folks often share their frustration with each other but usually not with the facilities because we are weary of being patronized by businesses who talk but do nothing to implement disabled friendly policies. Another issue is the intense noise in the pool area. My devices always warn me that the noise is over 100 decibels. So I usually have earplugs in when I use the pool. But if I had other sensitivity issues I would never come to this pool. The pool is a little bit dirty too. And one other thing, the locker rooms are very cold. Even if you’re dry. The showers have pathetic water pressure and many of the showers haven’t got enough hot water. Finally, the water massage chairs have never worked properly. It’s astonishing that they still haven’t replaced them all. Maybe it’s considered normal to have all of these issue and still charge a hefty monthly rate but with all of these maintenance issues, why aren’t they addressed?
The gym has rooms labeled "family changing rooms," but manager Mariah says children are not allowed to go there, even if accompanied by their parents. I wonder what strange concept of family they have, which must exclude children. Daycare personnel and other employees think it is ok for children and their parents to use those rooms/restrooms, so Mariah has not notified them of her strict and irrational views. The pool area had a sign that said minors 12 years and under can be there with an accompanying adult. When I brought this up, she had the sign be covered with tape. There are some maintenance and communication issues, because there is no hot tub in this location, and this is not advertised, the pool water is sometimes too cold, 2 out of 4 massage beds were not working today, but what I care about the most is for rules always being clear, rational, and consistent. I hope to continue my membership with them regardless because their location is convenient for me and my little daughter likes their daycare.
I don’t live in Albuquerque. I’m here visiting because my Grandfather is in the hospital. While here, I needed a place to workout. I found Defined Fitness and decided to check it out. Called them up to see if they offered daily or weekly passes. They took my info down and told me to come in and I’d be set to go. I arrived and was pretty impressed by what I saw just walking in. The one thing that bummed me out though was that they did not offer anything other than monthly memberships and one free day pass to try the gym out. However the staff was cool and said they would notate my account and I could come back tomorrow (which I plan on doing). The gym overall was super nice. Very clean. Has excellent equipment and an overall great atmosphere. The hydro massage chairs were pretty awesome too. If I lived here I’d join this gym in two seconds. Wish you were in Las Vegas, Nevada. If you were I’d sign up right away.
It's new and we very much wanted to start there but unfortunately we can't bring our elderly mother with us because they don't accept guests. There is a $20 daily pass but it will be way too much for us to pay few days a month extra for her. Update: We signed up for Four people and started going to gym and the pool right away starting beginning of January. The facility is clean but the showers have no hot water, no place to hang our towels, we are yet to try the Sauna cause it's still out of order, no soap in the shower, they have large HVAC vents blowing cold air directly to the pool so the space is super cold and the water doesn't watm up. Getting out of the pool is like stepping into a freezer. 2 out of 4 massage chair don't work. This gym has so much potential to be the best of all Defined fitnesss in Albuquerque because it's new, modern and clean but these details just doesn't help with the experience.
My child sat and cried for me while the “child care” ladies sat, watched him and did not attend to his needs. It was very unsettling to witness. When I went to cancel my membership the manager told me he watched tho whole situation and didn’t do anything about. I was told at sign up that they waive late fees for their member often and not to worry but cancelation fee are different because I had to advocate for my 2 yo. I was told snacks and drinks are okay and they had me take his comfort drink away. If you’re looking for a gym to actually care for your toddler I wound not suggest the gym, or at least this location. The manager said that if they tried to pick up a crying baby we’d be having a different conversation. Hmmm wonder what that meant. Hope they do criminal background checks for their employees here. Very unsettling! Horrible experience to a new person of the state and city!
Overall the gym has a good selection of equipment and stays pretty clean. Only thing that upset me was when I had to end my contract due to moving out of the country for work. Had a one-year contract. Paid monthly for 11/12 months (about $43 a month) and to cancel my contract I had to pay $100 to buy out the last month. I asked about signing the cancellation documents today, then just paying for next month like normal ($43), and canceling after that (saving me $57). I was told I would have to come in to cancel after next month still, which won’t work. I understand cancellation fees and wouldn’t have had much of a problem buying out the $43 left on my contract. Having to pay more than the rest of the contract is worth just sucks. I wouldn’t have a problem coming back here when I move back stateside but I’m definitely going to shop around a bit before signing anything here.
This gym is nice but I had fraud on my account and was two days late on my payment. The general manager told me I could not use the facilities and made me check out my kids. If I wouldn’t have tried to be transparent with them to let them know my situation that I would get my new card in a few days they probably would have never noticed I went in. I end up finding out there is a 10 day grace period but apparently I wasn’t worthy of that. That’s what I get for being responsible I guess. I was humiliated. I like this location because of Alicia in the kids club. She is so amazing with my kids and always so kind. If the management had the same care of consistency in customer service this place would be much better. If I do go back to this club it will be only because of Alicia in kids club. If it wasn’t for her I would give zero stars
I've been going to this gym since it first opened and the staff is usually great. This review is solely for Glen, the employee who has just as much authority as the district manager, according to himself. I had an encounter with Glen about a billing issue I had been trying to resolve for a few weeks. He was extremely rude and aggressive throughout the entire process. He expressed to me that he was having a good day until he saw my face and had to deal with me. He also stated that even if he was rude, at least he solved the problem. This is completely unacceptable customer service and after looking through the other reviews on him, I see that I am not the only person he has treated this way.
I went to this defined fitness to check it out and compare prices. It's a pretty new gym so everything looks nice, pool is very quiet from what we saw but after our tour the whole experience felt like a sales pitch. We sat down who started asking lots of yes questions like most sales, after asking a set of these questions he pulled out the chart and explained how it would basically be 1200dls a year for me and my wife! In addition there was a yearly charge. When we did the math and starting discussing our options his attitude changed and it was obvious he just wanted us out. We decided to go with a much cheaper gym, only difference is it doesn't have a pool.
Amazing friendly staff, clean gym, new equipment and ample parking. Constant cleaning is happening here by ALL; Would highly recommend! I train here about 5-6 times a week and it's the perfect environment for me. I would like to give "props/high five" to SARAHI at the Reception /Check-In desk who has me feel so incredibly special with her compassion. I've been a member since this location opened and I shared my medical journey with her. She understood and offered me hope. I'm a 50 year old military veteran in excellent fitness shape now wearing a heart monitor and struggles with PTSD. Thank you SARAHI for always smiling when I check-in
Called to ask why my bill was higher and spoke with Brad Chavez he seemed upset that he had to deal with a customer. When I brought up his poor customer service and requested to speak with a Manger he said he was the manager and would not escalate my call or provide a corporate number. He told me i can google it myself. He also seemingly threatening told me if I had a problem I could come see him at the gym. I called another location and was greeted much differently and my questions were answered. There a quite a bit of complaints about this guy in the reviews specifically naming him. Not the guy I would want to represent my business.
Nice, new, clean gym, but the free-weight area should have been built twice the size it is now. Always extremely crowded during the week. Staff is nice tho. Seems like the stair stepper machines are down a lot, but I have only been going here a couple months. The massage chairs are nice after a workout, which they didn't have at the metro location. I also appreciate the disposable wet towels and trash cans everywhere so you can wipe down surfaces after each use. My last issue is that the hours are really short unless you are an early morning person, but it's the same at all defined locations I've been to.
Being involved in the fitness industry, I have visited many different gyms all over the USA. Some good, some not so good. When I visited Defined Fitness after the change in leadership, I was incredibly blown away by my last experience there. Brad Chavez has made a HUGE impact on not only the maintenance, cleanliness of the gym/equipment. The culture he had created within the staff is what stands out the most. You can tell his team cares about what they do and they care about the member experience! Phenomenal leadership is a rarity in this industry. Lots of respect for Brad and his team at Defined Fitness!
They stick you to a 12-month contract with fees if you cancel early, and they don't fix anything. Of the 30 treadmills, only one or two of them actually have a functioning tv. The men's sauna has been out of service for over a month. Of the 4 massage chairs, only one works at a time if we're lucky. Men's bathroom has leaky faucets, wasting all kinds of water. It's so cold in the gym everyone is wearing sweaters and sweatpants. Men's locker room scale needs replacement. This is supposed to be the high-end gym, which is why they charge high-end prices. Better to go to Planet Fitness or Chuze.
This is a warning for all parents. This location allowed my 17 year old son to sign up for a membership. They started billing him immediately without the weaver being signed by a parent. Months later when I found out I went down to sign the form. He signed up in Novemeber and his first workout was in July. If you do the math my son wash charged $320 for something he couldn't even use. They didn't do anything about it then and they won't do anything about canceling it now. Pick a different club to use for your workouts. My family won't ever use them again.
Evan signed me up one year ago almost to this day. I am happy to see him at the Club. Having someone who knows your name, is knowlegable, and is friendly is important when health habits and lifestyle is being changed. I can say most definitely a year later that Mesa is my favorite club of all the DF's in the area because of the people. Capital is my fave facility. The personal connection w/ peeps frm Mesa makes the difference. Cindy, Claire, and Jessica in the personal training dept have me cursing out their names after sessions.
Defined Fitness Mesa has been my go-to gym for a few months now and I only have positive things to say about it. I’m always greeted by a friendly face and a “have a great workout” as I walk in, the locker rooms are spacious and always pristine, the workout equipment is new and kept in good repair, and the overall atmosphere of the entire gym is welcoming and comfortable. If you’re looking for a personal trainer I highly recommend Andrea! She has been an invaluable support and resource in my personal fitness and wellness journey.
Please do more to protect members privacy in the gym locker rooms and changing areas. Members should have an expectation of privacy while trying to change, however other members seem to find locker rooms as an appropriate place to take pictures of themselves with no consideration towards others. Members shouldn't have to feel the need to change in bathroom stalls for safety and privacy. Designated posing are needed and "No Devices" in the locker room needs to be better enforced.
I was very disappointing. The class election was mediocre. And the hours that they were available were terrible. The place was dirty and badly cleaned. People who are using the gym never cleaned off the equipment, as they were supposed to and nobody was around to enforce it. Totally gross!!! As well from that, there are not enough locations. It was very far from my house and it took too long to get there. I was extremely disappointed overall.
Love this gym, definitely my favorite in the 505! I started going to this gym 6 months after my husband passed away, the gym was definitely out of my comfort zone, especially during my grief! Almost 2 years later, this gym is my therapy, love the staff, always making me feel welcomed! I feel safe here, love the sauna, and love the vibe! I love how the staff calls everyone by their name, feels so welcoming! Renee Padilla
Sunday, September 10th. Supposed to open at 530am. Nobody showed up to open. Not the first time. At least the fourth that I have experienced such. Tried to talk to a manager, didn't respond to email. Went to the club at 1pm to talk to a manager but she had "just left." Left a message to call me, she never did. The parking lot appears to be always less full. I think this club is dying. Recommend you not join.
I train at this gym on a regular. This location is clean and the staff are welcoming and approachable. I will definitely keep coming to workout here. Shout to Jefte, the maintenance technician for doing an excellent job at making sure the gym equipment is safe and functional for all gym members. I rarely see multiple pieces of equipment out because he is always on it! So great job and keep up the good work!
My cousin who is also a member, was training me for free, showing me how to use the equipment there and after a few weeks, the manager came up to us to tell us we were being spotted by them the entire time. They made sure he wasn’t getting paid for teaching me. But it made me feel really uncomfortable knowing we were being watched the whole time. Will be going to Riverside instead.
I have been going to Defined Fitness now for a year now. I love it. My first personal trainer, really helped me towards my goal on losing weight and getting in shape. He also worked with pool training, so we alternated gym then pool. Now, my new trainer is working on teaching me how to run. I also love the group classes that Defined Fitness offers.
This is the best club in the DF franchise. When they built the Rio and Hilltop locations they used this building as the template for the style and layout. The staff at Mesa set them apart from every other location. Everyone is so approachable and friendly and the facility itself is very clean and well maintained. This is a top tier gym experience.
Love this place the childcare has opened now to 6 days a week. The overall staff is great the equipment is awesome and mainly the childcare area is safe and clean. My kids love going and it gives me a chance to workout without the worry. Thank you Defined Fitness. Fantastic hours great variety of classes and equipment locker room clean and fresh
I cannot thank Glen and Michelle enough. After weeks of trying to find answers for my account with no luck, these two immediately jumped into action and fixed all the issues I’d been having. I love this gym so knowing the staff are also willing to step in when needed really solidifies my choice of workout locations !
Excellent equipment, super nice staff, friendly and experienced, very clean and well kept environment! Awesome equipment and super spacious environment! Jefte is the most awesome, and helpful staff! I really like the location and am happy with my experiences here!
Love the gym great people, but I do recommend Yolanda for spin class she is amazing yall don’t go to Laurie’s spin class she’s rude and calls you out in class, rolls her eyes if you don’t do what she tells you give her zero stars 10 out of 10 don’t recommend her!
Great atmosphere. Nice scenery. Staff is very helpful and knowledgeable about equipment and safety. Locker room area and showers were always clean; they never had the typical gym musty smell. I would definitely recommend this gym over ALL the other DFs in ABQ.
Evan and Randy were absolutely wonderful great front faces for defined always very pleasant have tons of information and have all the answers for the questions that I had. Always nice to see a pleasant and welcoming person on my way in to hit a hard lift.
This Define Fitness is Huge and Amazing!! All the equipment you need, never crowded, and always clean; the Locker room/ bathroom is very nice and clean as well. I personally think its the best Define Fitness in Albuquerque. Nice Area as well.
Love this place, the equipment is great! Made me feel very comfortable during my first visit and evaluation, kids club is great both my sons are autistic and they have been really accommodating towards their needs 100% recommend coming here
I had a very nice experience. The staff was very nice and helpful. I was impressed by how clean and organized the weight and cardio floor was and I loved the pool. I would definitely recommend the Mesa Club to family and friends.
Defined Fitness Mesa has been a great experience each time I’ve gone, everything has been clean and organized which has made it a smooth workout. (: If you haven’t been to this location I’d say come and check it out(:
I went in for a trial and worked with Brad! The gym was never my thing but he gave me some good tips to be more confident and comfortable and I had a great time! I think the gym will be my thing this time around!!
My favorite part is the kids club and the girls in there. They're super nice and my littles never had a problem going with them. Childcare is a necessity for us and we really appreciate what they do for us :)
This defined fitness location is the best gym location I have been to. They have a little bit of everything to support everyone’s goals and an amazing staff who is always helpful with anything you may need.
I got a call from Defined fitness cause I was took a tour last week, I was comparing prices and the facilities, and they hung up on me, that shows the real face of there staff, I decided to go with chuze!
Awesome staff and very clean equipment. Had a wonderful experience with the manager Brad, he addressed some of my concerns when signing up for a membership. I definitely made the right choice!
Men's locker room sauna has been shut down all winter. Massage chairs don't work. Haven't worked in years. Cardio equipment doesn't work right. Management shows no interest in fixing things.
Was expecting a warm welcome, like at the metro location but instead was greeted by the power tripping "general manager" Brad Chavez changed that immediately would not recommend Mesa.
Defined Fitness-Mesa has great trainers and staff! The gym is clean, has great machine and class options, and a positive atmosphere to start or finish the day in with a good workout.
Been coming here for a year and gotten the best experience every time. Staff is super sweet and welcoming. Always starting conversation and welcoming everyone with a big smile:)
This was the gym we needed on this side of town. Love it! The amenities are updated and everything is laid out well. There is plenty of space and equipment to choose from.
Love this gym and the option for child care. My son loves coming here and asks to go all the time. Great way to workout and have your children taken care of and safe.
Great gym, but I definitely have to plan your time to go! It's packed and not enough lifting area! You will have to wait and wait if you arrive at the peak times.
Defined Fitness had been my gym for over 10 years. The staff is friendly and very knowledgeable especially Mike Garcia. I would highly recommend this location!
Love coming here, love how tidy the gym area is and all the available equipment. Front staff is very helpful and courteous when I ask abundance of questions.
Joselyn is the best employe at this location!! She helped a sista out when I needed some feminine products and she is super nice!! The gym is awesome also!!
The facility is always clean, it has a large number of machines, everyone is chill. The staff is friendly and approachable if you have any questions.
The staff is always extremely helpful and highly energetic! The facility is always clean and super nice to use. Definitely earned the 5 stars!
This location has gone downhill. It is not clean, massage chars do not work. People say they complain all the time but nothing comes of it.
I really enjoy coming to this gym! And I’m not a gym-person so it’s hard for me, but I love it here. Makes it possible to be consistent.
Very nice and clean Gym. Tuesday early is not a bad time. Medium crowd. Might be coming to this gym on my usual commute to work.
Lorenzo and Michelle are great employees who always welcome me. Fun and clean environment to work out! Amazing cleaning staff
me and my wife's trainer's Lauren Chafins, Isaac Villegas, and Cindy Long have all exceeded our expectations.
Love rhis gym judt starting to work out so beginner syaff very knowledgeable clean equipment
Well organized. Clean. Better maintained than their Sandia club.
