I've lived in this area before it was Plum Market, while it was Plum Market, and after it turned into Dom's. I loved Plum Market and was alright with Dom's and I would take my service dog with me while I shopped. I had his vest on sometimes and also didn't have it on other times, as it is NOT required by ADA to be classified as a service animal. I moved and haven't been back for almost a year until I decided to stop by today since I missed the food here... but then was treated extremely poorly compared to my other visits. I just went past the doors with my service dog and boyfriend today and had THREE people ask me immediately if my dog was a service animal. I understand being asked, but being asked quite literally seconds apart was a bit much but it wasn't that big of a deal to me since they all were very kind about it and moved on after my answer. However, an elderly white man decided to ask and then asked me what my disability was which is completely inappropriate and he clearly did not understand what he was talking about. I did not tell him what my disability was as under the Americans with Disabilities Act, staff can ONLY ask if the service animal is here because of a disability and what acts the animal can perform. NOT about what my disability is. He clearly wanted me to tell him about my severe health conditions and PTSD from getting assaulted which I did NOT feel comfortable saying to a complete stranger and just thinking about it made me start panicking and relive the moment. I am very unnerved around men because of this and he was making me very scared. I am just stating it in this review to let you know how serious this was to me and so this man can understand and do better for future customers. He clearly did not want me to be there and was refusing to comprehend anything I was saying. He just kept glaring at me and saying that my service dog was not allowed in a building with food service. The rest of the staff were younger and understood the purpose of asking me about my service animal, but this man was clearly being abelist and judging me as I am a younger woman with disabilities. I am enraged that I was treated so rudely and would have not been okay if it weren't for my boyfriend and service dog were not accompanying me. I understand that you might be having a bad day. I understand if you don't want to be there at the moment. But to judge a stranger for not looking the part of being disabled is not appropriate EVER. Shame on you.
I was excited in the run-up to the opening of Dom's and it is very nice to look at. Good selection, nice looking prepared food area, nice seating. Workers all very friendly. My issues are - first the prices. Very expensive for everything. I find similar quality at local fresh markets and often pay half the price. Then the prepared food is hit and miss. Tried the Onigiri (2 x price of HMart) and rice was not fully cooked, quality not as good. I used to be a big fan of Bonci Pizza, but here I tried 3-4 styles here and they all are uncomfortably spicy - and I generally like spicy food. Not at all like the original Bonci I used to go to in Wicker Park. Toppings in general not as good. Had a Matcha Latte and the Matcha wasn't mixed well and had clumps of matcha powder. That said I did try the hot bar once and was overall satisfied, although the last three times I've been there they only have salad bar and no hot food. I still have high hopes, and do stop by every now and then to pick something up, but not living up to my expectations. Hopefully things get better.
You cannot find everything you're looking for, but you will find some delicious meats, wine, cheeses and daily baked for and pastries. When it first opened, everyone was pleasant and helpful but that has worn off a bit and I contribute that to turnover. Seems that the cashiers have the highest turnover. Don't even think of trying to bring in your lovable dog...not a good idea and debatable, but understood...it is a food store and not a pet store ;). Highly recommend signing up for their loyalty...not sure what you get, but we do get one free coffee when we visit their coffee bar on the weekends. That is another area that has a high turnover and unfortunately, I cannot say you're always going to get the best service there...hit or miss...same with your coffee. All in all...A great addition to the Old Town area.
This review is mostly for the café. The beverages are always super inconsistent mostly leaning to the bad side. Rarely is there a day that the flavoring isn't just sitting on the bottom or my cappuccino isn't literally just foam with a splash of milk sitting on top of the heap of syrup on the bottom..gross. There's one barista that every time I walk in I cross my fingers she's the one making my drink as she's the only one who every gets it right. I wish I knew her name so I could give her a shout out. All the other people need to be retrained or just stop talking amongst themselves and do they're job and save social hour for when they're off the clock. To add-they're also frequently out of straws which really just sucks as this is coffee/beverage shop.
Doms kitchen and market is beyond messy and partially racist. Thé management need to be fully fired and replaced w/ people who are loving, caring and who actually care about their customer and workers. They walk around all snotty and entitled like nothing matters but them. It’s totally unacceptable and they won’t last long w/ that type of negative energy/management!!! The food be half cooked, burgers super bloody and undercooked, they don’t wash their hands nor do they comply w/ safety protocols. I’ve seen managers eat out of the salad bars w/ their nasty bare hands and more. A real secret shopper needs to pop up, unknown from management and you’ll see the truth. I’m sad that I can’t give them negative stars cause one is seriously too much like right.
I was excited to have something new in the neighborhood but honestly, this is worse that jewel. Can't nearly be compared with Plums Market. Customer service: poor. Ppl who works here they have no clue what they do or sell. They don't know how the food is made, ingredients etc. 90% have an attitude and you can tell they don't want to be there. Food: I recently bought $3,39 red velvet cupcake. The worst. Hard as a rock not eatable. Sandwich bar: nothing special, subway is better. Their products selection is very short, not too many organic brands! Overpriced, you are paying $2 more for what you can find in a regular Mariano's. Yes, it is a good coffee shop, brand new bar but that's it, not close to be a decent grocery store.
I never write reviews for places but I genuinely hate it here and need the world to know. The staff at the coffee shop were a couple of rude and immature boys chewing gum and goofing around amongst themselves, I must have had to repeat my order like 5 times before they listened. The coffee was completely burnt, the breakfast sandwiches were literally disgusting, the seating options were next to none, and once again, the service was apprehensible. We also had to clean our own table after finding their cleaning supplies underneath a trash station because all the tables were caked with spills and leftovers. I would never come here again and would highly recommend avoiding it.
VC's latest take on pricey yet mediocre quality "Whole Foods"-style upper-middle-class bourgeois market. It goes so hard on trendy aesthetics that it's both hip, yet wholly unoriginal at the same time. If you're the SABS (see and be seen) kind who gets a rush at overspending on basic groceries, here's your stop. Otherwise, Jewel is across the street. PS: Who is Dom? Does he work here? Does he exist? Or is he some effigy of the archetypical mid-century Italian-American Chicago deli clerk that some consulting firm conjured to give a soulless enterprise a relatable image? I wish they never killed Plum. PSS: The two stars are for the cafe/dining area, which is a decent idea.
This store is a great representation of a true market paired with exquisite food preparation‘s. Unlike traditional stores of the past this store combines the art of cooking with the overall shopping experience , one that encourages patrons to relax, enjoy the environment, and take in the epicurean delights that are bountiful throughout the store. The architecture works in harmony with the food presentation and the overall look and feel of the store sets it apart from anything in the surrounding area. There is a sense of calm and well-being throughout the store, a symphony of design and love of craft that truly makes this a destination for all to experience.
This place is incredible. First time there, and I was more than impressed. I'm not going to lie and tell you the prices are low, but this isn't your average market. This is a high-end boutique style store with a gigantic wine selection, gourmet items, and a little dining area. They have a good selection of vegan items and selected items you might not be able to find anywhere else. You will be hard pressed not to find something delightful here, whether drink or food. The atmosphere is beautiful and the staff is very friendly.
We stopped in Dom’s on Saturday to buy a bottle of wine and sit outside. Spyro offered to help us choose the perfect varietal based on our differing preferences. He was patient, knowledgeable, and friendly and walked us to the bar to get glassware and have our bottle opened. He even came outside to check on us to make sure we were enjoying the wine, and brought us samples of another one he thought we might like. Thank you Spyro for making our experience so wonderful!! Would not have been the same without you.
I ordered a corned beef sandwich which is supposed to be from MANNYS DELI … the mile high one I ordered was very skimpy on the beef.. no way near what you get from MANNYS DELI. I’m so disappointed with my sandwich and to pay $19.99 for it! Thats not KOSHER! Cupcakes I bought were dry and tasted old and frosting was stale and not creamy , as you would expect from cream cheese frosting. Over all be careful what you buy ask how long bakery goods been in case.
I wanted to love this place, I’ve been anxious waiting for it to open for months. Unfortunately, it’s only so-so. Some of the pastries I bought were stale. The meat selection is good, but the quality of some of the items is sub par. The garlic was sprouted- the bell peppers had mold. The store has been open a week, how is that even possible? Overall it is more expensive than Whole Foods, but with less selection and lower quality.
Sitting at the cafe and there are no straws anywhere. No napkins, no nothing. Cafe area is bare. None behind the counter either. Can’t stir or sip my drink. The syrup is now totally on the bottom so I’ll get 2/3 unflavored water and 1/3 strong and sweet elderberry. How is this normal? You guys don’t think to order more supplies until they’re out? There are none in the back? So weird. I’ll go to Starbucks next time.
We went there to eat pizza, they look very tasty. Price is difficult to determine as it's charged by lb and not by piece - weird. The guy serving us didn't say a word, was very lethargic and his hands were shaking. He grabbed the pieces with hands without using tools to get them into the oven. He then just left without saying a word. So we just left. That service is definitely not matching their premium prices.
Just spent $75 on 5 items. Got one bag and one item to carry in the hand. Realized it was a bit awkward as I was walking out the door went back and asked for a second seven cent plastic bag. Cashier looked at me and said “that’ll be seven cents.“ Obviously I didn’t not get a second bag to save seven cents. That episode kind of wiped out several good experiences there that are accumulated in my mind.
This review is for Bonci pizza in the Dom's market; the market itself is fine. But Bonci was way worse than other locations. The tall black girl (9/21/2023) didn't even sliced it before serving since she was busy checking smartphone. $3 more expensive than other Bonci, too. Pizza was not hot since they used a small oven to heat it up, which made it only dry like a snack: A total waste of $8.
Originally loved this place, but start to realize that its plum market 2.0. Overpriced and not run great. Purchased shrimps that did not have a price and after getting them from the butcher, realized they were $21/lb. Also recently bought a 4 pack of chobani yogurt that were already expired. Didn't check until I got home. Back to whole foods it is!
The most unhelpful unfriendly store. I have a broken ankle and hobbling on a boot. I was unable to use a push cart to accommodate my roller grocery bag and had to use a hand basket. I apparently was dismissed from buying flowers thinking I was in line. The customers were almost as snooty as the check out clerks. Would not recommend - too expensive
Recommend: the store was clean and well stocked. Love the seating space in the store and the coffee shop. Also, I had the double cheeseburger with their Parmesan rosemary - it was actually really good. 2 burgers with fries for under $20 on a Wednesday was pretty good. Had the latte at their coffee shop and it was also pretty good.
Great place to shop. Very high-quality products. Excellent grocery as well as their food to go. This is a must stop shop spot. Lots of locally sourced products including my favorite Made in Chicago kombucha Kombuchade. Find Kombuchade in their Grab and Go Cooler near the hot food bar.
I love the staff, the fun young happy hour vibes, people watching as many attractive patrons shop here, but it’s the prices that make it hard to make more than 2-3 trips here per month. The prices for some of their pre-packaged food is about as much as eating out at a real restaurant.
Wow. Food bar is banging. Chicken noodle soup is right up my ally - not too salty but PACKED with flavor. Coconut shrimps too … gee wizz. Sweet chili Brussels sprouts too.. lord have mercy. This place is like Whole Foods but better lowk, in regards to the hot food. And pizza bruh
We were visiting Chicago and discovered Dom's Kitchen and Market on North Wells Street. It has incredible food! We bought some mini pistachio cannolis, a sourdough boule, a carrot cake, and a Chicago beef sandwich, for $33! Wow it was all great! The sandwich fed three!
I didn't think I could love Dom's more, but then they opened up in Old Town. Absolutely love the selection of produce plus the cheese and charcuterie section is just wow. What really got me was the frozen department since they have everything you never knew you wanted.
We ordered our Thanksgiving turkey & ham from Dom’s in Old Town this year. Hands down the best turkey of all times! It was fresh, moist and delish! We are so appreciative of the service and selection of amazing food. We are so grateful to have you in our neighborhood.
Love this place! Mostly because of the Brew. The baristas are fantastic, especially Michael, Hugo and Imani. They’re friendly, creative and efficient. As someone who usually works from home, seeing one of their faces when I get my coffee is a bright spot in my day!
Local excelente para compras, consumo local e bater papo. Experiência de consumo de primeira qualidade, com produtos feitos no local e seleção de fornecedores fora do comum. Ambiente super agradável e espaçoso. Preços muito compatíveis, top Experiência em Chicago
Lovely selection of wines, flowers & prepared foods. They also have a variety of locally sourced goods that aren’t over-priced. There is a coffee bar, a bar serving spirits & a comfortable seating area right when you walk in. I am excited about this place!
The breakfast food at the cafe is just bad. I don’t know how you screw up a bacon egg and cheese sandwich, but they’ve done it. The egg was so over cooked it felt like I was chewing plastic. Whole lotta lox bagel was a mini bagel and very little lox.
Ready made beef bowl was absolutely awful. All the pickled vegetables were insanely sour with no sweetness, the rice was sushi rice with a heavy dose of rice vinegar, and the beef was a tiny portion. Recommend you find food outside of this food court
Super cool spot. Comfy café, nice ready-to-eat meals. They have wine bottles shelved to the ceiling, a wide selection of fresh goods such as fish and produce, and outdoor seating. Only problem is that there doesn't seem to be self checkout.
Great alternative for Whole food’s dine-in experience with its’ more spacious and laid-back seating area. Prices are similar though. Sandwiches and soups’ flavors are above average. If you’re around area for a quick bite, go for it.
Sushi is so bad here now they’re giving it away BOGO!! FYI cross contaminated old, cooked fish mixed with raw fake tuna scraps and made into “spicy tuna” paste for rolls. Dangerous so don’t eat here!
Love Dom’s. The Veracruz chicken sandwich is one of the best sandwiches I’ve ever had. But they stop making sandwiches an hour before close. I could see 30 mins before close, but a whole hour?!
Ordered two iced dirty chais and the barista tried to argue that I ordered a “hot one because it’s on the ticket” with so much sass. Not my fault your coworker put that incorrectly. Do better.
Love this new addition to Wells St. I appreciate seeing how it's actually a place people enjoy grabbing drinks and coffee, largely because it offers a welcoming and fresh atmosphere
I had to get groceries so I went to doms kitchen and market the cashier at the front named Alexander was the kindest person I ever met. He improved my day by 1000% highly recommend
Pretty awesome grocery store, amazing selection, wonderfully fresh and a super wide selection of items. Seems to be much higher priced than Whole Foods or Trader Joe's.
We are probably in Dom's Kitchen & Market twice a week. The friendly staff recognizes us by now. They are another neighborhood addition that serves us well.
My fav grocery store just opened a location in old town. They are giving away free coffee and snacks. Must stop by for some goodies and produce
Very bad signage. Fish looked very dry and expensive. Meat looked good but way over priced. Most goods had brand names I had never seen before.
Excellent meat quality and selection. Very good prices. Very fresh and good looking fruits and vegetables. Friendly staff. Interesting layout.
Compré un pastel de chocolate y estaba seco y sin esa cremosidad que se necesita., a lo mejor fue mala suerte y me llevé uno ya antiguo
Great market with tons of food options for a quick bite. Loved my almond old fashioned donut, cortado with coconut milk was alright.
Nice local alternative to Whole Foods. I’d give them 5 stars but their coffee shop won’t let you use your own cup on drink orders.
Crunchy ice girlies, don’t walk .. run!! I like it better than plum market. More diverse choices and better price points.
Sold me three week old raw kefir yogurt. Real issues with a refrigerated product on the shelf **3 weeks** past expiration
Great experience in Old Town. Dom’s is taking the grocery and prepared food space to new levels. Can’t wait to go back.
I placed an order for a surprise bag and they canceled my order only to repost the surprise bags as available.
Love the freshly squeezed juices. Wish they would warm the breakfast items in the cafe like the croissants.
My favorite ever grocery store. Best selection, kind and helpful employees and free samples all the time :)
Jose Santali by the pizzas has great customer service. Is very quick and efficient, keep it up.
Ben at the gohan Asian kitchen was an absolute gem and made my experience here fantastic.
Insanely overpriced for average quality food. Not a place I'll ever go for groceries.
비싸지만 리워드 프로그램이 좋음 맨날감 케이크 맛있음 커피도 맛있음 스시롤 진짜 맛있음(볼보다는 롤) 아시안소스류는 여기가 더 저렴한 느낌?
Nice yet pricey supermarket. Good to work, but Tiramisu is way too sweet...
The lemon-blueberry cookies should be illegal for being so delicious.
Decent selections of products. The freezer selections are fantastic
Great take away food options. Salad bar, pizza, sandwiches, bagels
Todo en excelente calidad y el personal en general es muy amable
The burg was amazing and loved the Mac n cheese My sis got ❤
Nice place but pricey! Sometimes they have nice promotions.
Fancy upscale clean eating organic nice crew very helpful
Great atmosphere and great ready to eat food on the bar
Its price point is between jewel and whole food.
Cane here a few weeks ago. Nice market
Great management and clean environment
Very clean and wheelchair accessible
The store lacks chocolate milk… :(
Great store, awesome service
Really Nice but Expensive!
