"I have been going to Dough since the bakery rebranded and reopened after the fire and I can honestly tell you it's the most welcoming and delicious bakery/coffee shop I've ever been to! The bread is always so fresh and they have such a large selection of hot drinks (different coffee and hot chocolate flavours etc), and of course milkshakes and smoothies! The seating area is great with several plugs (including straight to USB slots) to charge your phone or laptop if you're sitting in for a period of time, which you may end up doing once you taste their pastries"
"So I have been here on a few occasions and on every visit i have encountered some kind of issue but with them being so apologetic, i have always let it slide"
"I love the bread here, but I had a surprise yesterday when I arrived at 17:20 and it was already shut"
"Had a pretty bad experience here unfortunately"
"Came here hoping to see Carina or even Lord sugar lol"
I have been going to Dough since the bakery rebranded and reopened after the fire and I can honestly tell you it's the most welcoming and delicious bakery/coffee shop I've ever been to! The bread is always so fresh and they have such a large selection of hot drinks (different coffee and hot chocolate flavours etc), and of course milkshakes and smoothies! The seating area is great with several plugs (including straight to USB slots) to charge your phone or laptop if you're sitting in for a period of time, which you may end up doing once you taste their pastries. Not only do they provide custom-filled sandwiches/rolls/baguettes (and everything else), they also have a buffet-style sandwich section which for an extremely small price, you can help yourself to as much self served bread and spreads as you like with all your typical favourites (nutella, peanut butter etc). Aside from the food and drinks, the staff are always so welcoming and friendly towards me and it's clear that other customers get the same treatment. There is a lovely girl called Jade who I mostly see when I pop in, and she always makes sure to double check if my pastry or coffee is okay. The shop is always decorated too, be it themed (Halloween, Christmas etc) or just generally lovely looking decorations all year round. I can't really critique the shop for anything that can be helped - it would be nice if the shop was bigger to fit more customers on a busy day, however for the space provided they have done well to fit in as many tables as they have done without the feeling of being squashed. It's a nice location right next to Herne Hill station for commuters to easily pass by and pick up a coffee or sausage roll to go. I leave the shop with a big smile on my face every time and I'm 100% sure you will do the same once you visit! I'd like to say a big well done to all the staff especially the two sisters in charge, who made the shop what it is today.
So I have been here on a few occasions and on every visit i have encountered some kind of issue but with them being so apologetic, i have always let it slide. I have encountered several issues with my vanilla flat white coming cold with an inch of coffee, 5 inches of froth and no vanilla, I've had what appeared to be, a dusty doughnut and to be honest, the place isn't as clean as a bakery should be. Theres dust and dirt everywhere. Today was the final insult when i put my stuff down on my seat, went to pay for my bottled water only to be asked, ‘Is that all? Only we are busy on Saturdays’. When clearly, there were other customers sitting with just drinks. If it wasn't conveniently located near the dance school, i wouldn’t have gone back after the first incident. Staff are clueless, unprofessional and lack social skills. Very disappointed.
I love the bread here, but I had a surprise yesterday when I arrived at 17:20 and it was already shut. It clearly says on the opening hours on the website that you close at 6pm every day and I've been checking this with your staff over the last few weeks to make sure that this is indeed the case on Sundays as well, which was confirmed. I don't live anywhere near Dough, so I take the tube and then walk from Brixton station. So the one star is for this experience and not a reflection of the bread, which is lovely. However, I can think of better ways of spending my Sunday afternoon. Five days later: I've just seen that you've changed your Sunday opening hours on the website to 5 o'clock. You've therefore seen this review and could not be bothered to apologise to me. Not very good, is it?
Had a pretty bad experience here unfortunately. Ordered an iced americano, oat latte, feta and spinach bake and brownie. They brought over a vanilla latte with regular milk, which they remade. Then they brought over a sausage roll instead of the spinach + feta one, I didn’t realise until after I’d had a bite as they look very similar, not great considering I’m vegetarian. Sent it back and they were apologetic, saying they’d get a feta one out instead. That was taking ages to come (considering it just needs heating up) and the brownie still hadn’t either, so asked for a refund on the food in the end, which they did give. They didn’t seem understaffed but think they were just overwhelmed and maybe a bit inexperienced. My americano was pretty good though.
Came here hoping to see Carina or even Lord sugar lol.. Wow, what a selection of food they have, initially only thought they done sweet ls and cakes etc. But we ended up having lunch, Delicious homemade chicken bbq / mayo ciabatta with grilled cheese and salad. Hands down one of the best I've had in aong time. Chicken was fresh and very tasty, bread was baked this morning and propa soft. Really nice coffee too. To finish it off tucked into a luxury doughnut!! I highly recommend you go here and ask what's popular, staff are really friendly, we drove from east London just to come here and will definitely be making another visit.
My entire family are regulars, whether to buy delicious fresh bread and patisserie, have coffee or a light lunch. Tuna melts are favourites as are their tiffin bites (we consume too many of the latter than we would care to admit). The young staff here always work hard and do a good job with a smile. It is a small place and there is an area (is it for customers, the printer or for stock?) that could be dusted more regularly but in general it is clean and the loo is very generously proportioned for such a small space. Overall, we are so lucky to have this lovely independent business in the neighborhood.
2 disappointing experiences unfortunately. First time we came here and bought a selection of cakes which despite looking nice, were dry and disappointing (apart from a tasty cherry cake). We came back to try the bread and bought the wholegrain sourdough to see if it was just a bad day. Sadly it tastes just like a dense granary loaf, none of the taste, texture or crust of sourdough at all. Also covered in an excessive layer of burnt flour which turns to paste in your mouth. Shame as an self titled ‘artisan’ bakery should be able to make good sourdough.
I've been here twice and both times services and food we're brilliant!

So me and my husband decided to come in and give it a go as we are both fans of artisan bakeries.I am sorry to say,but the cakes were a bit dense and very very sugary (i could compare it to superstore items). We also tasted a spinach and feta pastry...as a greek im quite offended..Also, when i went to get the pastry the staff asked me if i wanted it on a piece of tissue. the coffee was nice. The decor could use some improvement but its still looked nice. However i dont think we will be returning any time soon.
What a pleasure it was to meet Carina. Totally down to earth and as 'normal' a person you could ever wish to meet. She made all the time to talk with us and make us feel valued. There is certainly a good vibe going on and we can vouch for the quality of the luxury sausage rolls, 10/10 and the rainbow cake,. The coffee was very good as well. The fresh bread looked excellent and we have a loaf in the freezer! Well done on your win, keep up the hard work and I have no doubt greater success will follow.
I've been meaning to try this absolute gem of a shop for a while and I am so pleased!.I ummed and arrred for a long time passing by this lovely place when finally yesterday I stumbled in and brought some magnificent cake treats!!!Excellent high quality place, decent prices, yummy cake treats and excellent customer service!I will be back in the not so distant future for another trip to Dough Artisan for some more treats I cannot wait, thank you once again. Kind regards Darius
My neighbour was so excited after his first visit decided to try for myself. Great prices nice atmosphere. I was looking forward to a gluten free treat although options available that looked delicious the staff member advised couldn't be 100% no cross contamination. Excellent care as my allergy severe so thank you Dough I shall enjoy a beveridge after my morning swim and pass on to others this bakery/cafe which is my second favourite in Herne Hill.
We went in to see for ourselves what the fuss was about given The Apprentice win, and we weren't disappointed, especially as we got to meet Carina in person. I had the cherry and almond slice, and my wife the apricot and almond, and both were excellent. We also had a couple of coffees, both good, if a little weak. We took some focaccia and sourdough home too. Service was super friendly at all times and pricing decent.
A great little bakery and cafe, now beat known for being run by the winner of the 2019 series of The Apprentice! I visited for lunch and found it pleasantly busy and bustling, with lots of customers seemingly attracted by the connection to the TV show. The cafe really delivers though - lovely food (I had a sausage rolls, a sandwich and a rocky road), a nice vibe, and very friendly and accommodating staff. A real gem!
The customer service was a little disappointing unfortunately. But based on the other reviews being really impressive, maybe I was just unlucky. The decor/ atmosphere was very nice and products all looked great! I really enjoyed my luxury hot chocolate and rhubarb slice. It's not possible to try everything in one visit anyway, so I will definitely be back again soon and I really hope to upgrade the rating to 5 stars!
Dough has had a huge boost in attention following Carina's glorious victory in the Apprentice. This is well deserved, as not only do Dough have a fantastic range of bread (the sourdoughs and rye are particularly good) but also an innovative range of vegan pasties and bakes. The increase in customer numbers has meant the service creaks a bit in busy periods, so hopefully they will increase capacity at the till soon!
Ordered a red velvet and a chocolate slice via deliveroo. They sent the chocolate but couldn’t even bother to contact me to let me know that they had run out of red velvet. Instead they sent the most rock hard, dry sprinkle cake. Called up only to be told by management that they “cannot see any more of the sprinkle cake left. Looks as though that was the last slice so makes sense it was dry”… Terrible.
Had a quick visit to relatives in Tulse Hill and we called here for lunch after a walk around the park.High chair was available for my niece and enough tables and chairs to sit and relax. Staff were very friendly and chatty . What a beautiful little bakery and great value too ! We had a meal deal , a HUGE filled baguette with drink and crisps for £4.40 !! Would definitely recommend , amazing value x
The best luxury almond milk hot chocolate I have ever had in London, plus you get a complimentary ginger biscuit which melts in your mouth! Family run business, the ladies are super friendly and the bakers are funny (don’t get me started on the cakes and bread, one word, DELICIOUS). If you are anywhere near the Herne Hill area it’s definitely worth detouring to the Dough Artisan Bakehouse! AMAZING!
A proper local south London bakers making great slow risen bread on the premises in Herne Hill SE24 just next to the railway station on Milkwood Rd. A great range of traditional and contemporary loaves, pasties, pastries, cakes, cookies and more including a wonderful 100% spelt loaf that is incredibly tasty. Their classic filled rolls - egg mayo, tuna etc - are excellent and it's all good value.
Amazing place! They have a variety of sweet and savoury treat including a lot of vegan options! It's a great place to grab a light lunch or snack! They also offer a delicious dirty chai latte and energy balls! The atmosphere is great, very cool to sit under the arches inside a bakery! The staff is also nice and service is quick! Highly recommended, my favourite cafe/bakery in the area!
I'm hoping to update this review to 5 stars soon. I loved the ambiance of the place. The smell of fresh baked bread and pastries. The staff member at the till was pleasant enough. A nice smile would have been a great addition. For now I think it's a nice little cafe with great treats. Will keep you updated. Sadly I just saw a staff member laying out pastries with his bare hands.
We bought today a piece of cake and when we got home we realized the piece was tiny. It was cut as thin as possible, and some parts of the slice were left behind. Never buying here again. Plus, the coffee machine looks very dirty and unhygienic. They should be more careful with these things and their cleanliness in general, since a lot of food is being handled at this place.
Bought a sliced pure rye bread on the 21st May. At home I took two slices and noticed it was under baked and raw in the middle.I toasted it and straight away I suffered terrible stomach pains. I rang the shop and I spoke with a gentleman who I think was named Carl. I had no apology and there was little care or corncern. Didn't take my details. Wouldn't recommend.
We come here often for a treat. The vegan pastry and sweet options are great and we particularly love the vegan flapjack - best flapjack I’ve ever had, so gooey with loads of dried fruit and choc chips! However I don’t think there are any meat or dairy free sandwich filling options which would be a great addition for a more substantial vegan meal :-)
Really worry. I went to have a coffe with my mom. We are both gluten intolerant i as very clear with the staff i wanted a gluten free brownie . It looked like the staff is not well aware of what gluten free means. She took a normal brownie . Really disappointed by the service of the staff. Allergies is a very serious affair.
Great food, great prices, super friendly, sweet, caring staff. Our favorite Croissants... and Pain Au Chocolat, Gluten Free Carrot Cake, Apple Turnovers and the gift bags.... yum! They looked after us when we needed breakfast after flying in from Australia. Love! ps... we did make it back to Australia safely xo
Being located in Germany, I ordered some cakes for my brother's birthday who lives in London. The ordering via deliveroo was unproblematic and Dough's bakehouse made sure my brother got his delicious cake and they even included a sweet b-day wish for him in the package :) THANK YOU VERY MUCH DOUGH'S BAKEHOUSE!
I visited this place with my husband today and tried the vegan brownie, lemon croissant, mince pie and latte with oat milk. Everything was delicious and the staff was also very nice. We were served by Carina who was very friendly and welcoming. Will definitely come back again when we’re next in the area.
What else can I give but a single star, having witnessed the apparent supervisor (young women) of this place casually pick up the filthy traffic mat at the entrance with her bare hands and then promptly pop behind the counter to hand a loaf to a young family using the same unwashed hands. Disgusting.
Nice little venue! Very sorry to say the pastries & cakes do not always always taste fresh! Purchased a almond croissant today which was soft, soggy, dank ~ not fresh, not good to eat!

I haven’t been to this place yet but it seems like an amazing place after research when seeing carina on the Apprentice. I will be visiting this place in the Christmas holidays and I can’t wait to hopefully see Carina so I am really looking forward to this. Well done by the way. Amazing place
Really very good bacon roll with their own soft white buns made in house and an excellent americano white. Nice seating friendly staff all for 4 quid! Drop in on your way to HealthHub next door! UPDATE The new multiseed sour dough is amazing. My children love it toasted for breakfast.
Fantastic and beautiful environment with excellent. Friendly staff. Proffesional and clean. Lovely layout and great prices. Will come back and visit again. Home made delicious food which is great quality. Keep up the good work! Look forward to seeing more branches in the future.
I absolutely love the food here... Probably too much. Really nice place to work for a bit. It's a real bakery which means you can see everything being made and thank the wonderful baker, but obviously means it can be a bit warm if you're sitting in in summer! Nice tunes too.
What a little Gem!! Unlimited toast with free peanut butter (crunchy or smooth), marmalade, chocolate spread, marmite, butter and plenty of other treats.... all for £2. Did I mention it's artisan bread you toast yourself? It's so refreshing to go somewhere like this.
Lovely coffee! Taste great, good choice of milks, not overpriced. Some yummy pastries and some breakfast options available. Staff is super friendly and polite. On minus I never know when it is openning. One day it can be close at 7:40 another day it's open from 7:30
The food is great and so are the people! Everyone is so friendly and helpful, and very sweet to my child. Great prices as well, best deal in Herne Hill. Both the breads and pastries are delicious. We get sandwiches here frequently for lunch also. Great local spot!
OPEN !! Bakery. Tasty selection of savory breads made on the premises. Nested under the Arches of Herne Hill train station. Fresh bakes & Coffee and cakes to take away. 2 customers at once policy. Very pleasant staff and tasty pasties to take to Brockwell Park.
Tasty pastries and pies but 4 out of 6 times I’ve bought pies from them, I got home to find out I’d been given the wrong flavour! It happened that labelling was wrong and also that the guy packaged up the wrong one. Do make sure to check - if at all possible!!
Food was amazing, coffee was perfect and service was very polite. Definitely would recommen. Prices were very reasonable. Better quality and cheaper prices than some main franchises !! I would highly recommend there baked loafs of bread aswell …
Dropped in today to buy a pastry. No Cash, and card machine wasn’t connecting. As I had a run for a train, the baker let me take the pastry, with a promise to pay next time. Great trust and service, as well as a delicious pain au chocolate.
Really good bread- we come here all the time! olive and jalapeno bread on weekends are particularly good. Other stuff (coffee and cakes) is fine but it is the bread (which is competitively priced for the area) that gets this place 5 stars.
I wanted to like this place but each visit gets worse. Apart from the bread and possibly the pastries, everything tastes about a week old. Stale, dry and bland cakes, tarts and biscuits. Go to the market if you happen to pass on a Sunday.
My third day trying some of the sandwiches and pastries and have to say, this is the kind of bakery we needed around this area. Fresh bread and pastries of your choice and friendly staff. Keep up the good work, you will be seeing me again
Great bakery and service. The only thing I would like is a crusty white roll. If I were them I would get the two bakers producing the same end product as one creates a perfect crusty, large roll as the other one is small and soft!
The bread is delicious, you see them baking it at the back and the smell is always amazing. Proper bakery, lovely staff and there’s always something different on sale at different seasons. Best bakery in the area, hands down.
Best bakery in Britain. Their bread (and all their products for the matter) are always of the highest quality. The staff are always so friendly and welcoming - a testament to how well the business is run. Highly recommended
Excellent cake and drink choices. Couldn’t help but walk away with a few take outs the multi seed loaf is beautiful quite possibly the best bread I’ve had. Also to add the service is superb they made us feel very welcome.
Happy to have come by this place whilst visiting family, Just simply a pleasant experience and value for my money. Only negative to this review is that there is sadly not a Dough Artistan Bakehouse in my city of Hull
I really love this place, the bakery is amazing, and I love the coffee but I find depending on who makes it, can sometimes be quite watery and bitter, is quite hit or miss with whether it’ll be a good cup of coffee
WoW. You gotta try this place! The atmosphere is awesome and staff are really friendly. They made sure everything was quality. And it was! The coffee is great and the food is to die for. Will be visiting again.
Lovely local bakery with friendly staff and great bread!! Having been working from home during the pandemic have been delighted to come across Dough and try their delicious treats (sausage rolls are brilliant)
Today was my first time visiting Dough Artisan Bakehouse with my family. The customer service was fantastic and the food was great. I will definitely be returning and I wish them the best with their business.
I was curious about the bread here after watching last year's The Apprentice. I have a slice of rye bread every morning so I bought a loaf from here and it was delicious!!! Probably the best I've had ever.
Hi bakery Please open your first new bakery in upminster - our last one shut this year so were desparate for a new one with decent bread and lovely cakes. Come on soon our high street needs you.
I have based this review on thetapprentice. his review is for Carina as I think shes down to earth and a lovely person. I might pop over to try some of the food in your cafe one day too .. Abid
Really enjoyed my visit to Dough's. Great atmosphere, super friendly staff and the best cappuccino I've ever tasted . Not to mention the homemade apple tart ! Will definitely be back for more.
Was a great experience! Carina's sister served me she was very friendly and gave great customer service! Loved the food and drink also!! Only thing I would say I wish it had more seating!!
Below average - bought a sourdough which was just a standard bloomer loaf when you cut into it, had 2 pastries which were pretty stale and underwhelming, and coffee was nothing special
A gem in Herne Hill! Fabulous Rye bread, I'm now hooked! All baked goods look amazing and are fairly priced. It has definitely turned into one of my favourite local shops, thumbs up!
coffee sausage roll and brownies here were suberb! lovely little cafe to work n chat in, plus free wifi too. staff were very friendly, overall I really liked this cafe!!
Great to see a bakery back in the neighbourhood. Staff are all lovely and they do good viennoiseries, particularly love their almond croissant. Coffee good too.
I've never been to the cafe but I've given it 5 stars based on Carina winning the apprentice. The photos are of my son's hotwheels cars he got for Christmas.
Went in for a coffee & croissant. The place could really do with a make over. It feels dated and not particularly clean. Dusty shelves and tired decor.
I always order from these guys on Deliveroo because it’s a bit out of my way but they’re always so speedy and the food is insanely good! Thanks guys x
We'll worth the hour's walk. Super savoury pastries, though not cheap. Vegan pasty was not too aesthetically appealing but an improvement on Gregg's!
Lovely unpretentious café/bakery in Herne Hill. The food and coffee are delicious and the prices are extremely good. Will definitely be coming back!
Fantastic place. Absolute blinding bunch off guys and girls and the produce is brilliant. Visit there most days on lunch and never had a bad bite :)
I love this place! The cakes are to die for! The staff are amazing and so friendly. Carina, Rachel and the rest of the team always look after me
Nicely assembled sandwich, extremely fresh bread as expected. Sandwich filling options not that clearly displayed otherwise highly recommended.
Love the spicy chicken sandwich literally the best thing on your menu and your delicious donuts. I order via deliveroo and its always so great
Really nice staff, extensive and exciting sweet pastry and breads, fresh filter coffee on the go - place smells great! fresh fresh fresh!!
Congrats Carina on winning the show!!! The bakery looks amazing and so tasty. Please open your second shop in Manchester …
Great coffee and well priced bread, pastries and savouries. Only complaint is that the luxury sausage roll has halved in size.
Visited today and what a lovely little setup! Looking forward to seeing more branches, really busy which is great to see!
Gorgeous bakery, great food and super friendly staff. Ordered a gift box for a friend and they delivered it the next day.
Delicious bread and delicious cakes with wonderful, welcoming and friendly staff. One of my favorite local places to go.
Rolls n bread ...simply mmmmm unfortunately, the bacon can be a tad hard after a microwave zap (depending on the server)
The staff here are very friendly and very helpful. It's also cosy and a nice place to have a cappuccino and a pastry.
Rainbow Cake was great, not too sweet. The bread we got was also good quality, just wish there was shop near Bromley.
The food is to die for! The pasties are amazing, the vegan luxury roll is incredible! And the flat whites are lovely
Great coffee with delicious spinach and ricotta pastry. Very helpful and friendly staff. I totally recommend it.
Lovely, welcoming place. Staff are friendly and the produce is delicious and fresh. Beautiful location too.
I come here frequently and my partner and I love it. We’ve loved everything we’ve tried ❤️ thank you Dough!
Very cool bakery to visit with some delicious sweet treats. Make sure you try a doughnut and hot chocolate!
Very nice small bakery. Fantastic fresh bread made each morning, plus lots of good pastries and cakes.
Excellent service. Amazing breads. Coffee was standard but everything else was very good.
Always good food and service here.

Banging coffee and the girl that served me was very friendly. Definitely recommend!
Our whole family and builders love Dough’s sausage rolls. I prefer them warmed up.
Gorgeous vegan cakes, lovely warm environment, great staff, will be back soon!
Nice staff but all baked stuff I’ve had have been bang average unfortunately
Remarkable range of vegan and gluten free snacks. Pretty good coffee too.
Delicious bacon-egg bun, super fluffy hot cross buns and good coffee
Great spot by Herne Hill. Friendly and welcoming
