This is a re-write of an earlier review and is warranted as such. My wife and I thought that his service would be a good alternative to traditional medicine as there were some health issues that we were having a difficult time addressing. He seems friendly, knowledgeable and still had residency at Rush and his credo appeared to be a good balance of traditional and alternative approaches. We had a test done for Lyme disease which was thought to be the root of the issue. This test was very expensive and insurance did not cover it. No insurance would actually (we have a good PPO). It was about $500 out of our own pocket. We were told by Dr De La Cruz that the lab they use tests for extra bands (an indicator for Lyme disease that while is more thorough than most tests is still not 100% accurate). The test results came back in the middles of the range of “yes you have it” and “no you don’t” and the doc suggested we err on the side of yes to be sure. One thing that didn’t sit right with me is that everything that I’ve read and heard from my own primary care physician is that you have to have been in an area where deer ticks are present. We have never been. We were suspicious because we had peculiar bites when we were on a cruise in the Caribbean. Dr De La Cruz stated that it’s still possible because someone could have carried a traveling deer tick on them that came from one of those areas. The second thing is that we weren’t symptomatic of Lyme disease. It affects your muscles and nerves but we weren’t having any of those issues. The third was the timing of the current suspected symptoms from when the cruise ship bites occurred, which was back in 2009. After our suspicions, another doctor at Rush suggested seeing their Infectious Disease department. The Dr. there has a long history of studying infectious diseases (he was about to retire) and asked us thorough questions, after which, he giggled when we told him we paid $500 for a test from a particular lab in California. He apologized for his demeanor and just said, “You got ripped off! That lab is notorious for working with doctor offices who get you scared thinking you have Lyme to take their test. It’s a total scam.” We were speechless. He also added that based on the answers to his questions, nothing added up to where we might even have Lyme (see above paragraph). He did a normal Western Blot test and it came out negative. Turns out he was right and Dr. De La Cruz was wrong. The issue we were having was not stemming from Lyme but from a different issue that has since been corrected. If you are iffy about your symptoms, have them checked by an infectious disease expert, not here or you’ll end up spending more than you have to on something that’s not necessary.

I can’t say enough about Dr. De La Cruz and his staff. This practice is an example of what a doctor’s office SHOULD be. He looks for the root cause of illness - in lieu of cranking out scripts for simply masking the symptoms! He creates a partnership with his patients - he does not boss his patients around due to any personal agenda or bias! We are bombarded by toxins on a daily basis. We have life stressors and experiences that affect our immune systems and can weigh us down. We might have hidden infections and parasites, as well as nutritional deficiencies! We have hormonal changes and imbalances. And we are all influenced by our cultural and spiritual beliefs and practices! In short, we need to keep our systems in balance to be healthy. He helps his patients do that! And he is supportive about working with other practitioners if that is what best benefits his patients. The only bad thing about coming here is that it might make it hard to find other practices you love, and benefit from, as much!

I have seen Dr. Marco for the better part of 30 years and trust him like no other. I love that he tries natural remedies before writing a perscription which is most important to me. I also love that he does not look at a symptom that one might have had a dozen times, is related to any previous but rather, asks all kinds of questions to better understand what is currently happening or if in fact current situation might be do to something that previously happened. Dr. Marco listens and will answer all questions, he does not talk at a person but to them. I recommend him to people that need a doctor, my sons and my fiance, pretty much anyone. He is awesome, compassionate, caring, loves what he does and contiues to educate himself even by using information patients give him that might help him with someone else after he investigates the data received. The only time I would ever consider leaving his practice, moving out of state or he retires. Darleen J. McPike

I saw Dr. De la Cruz a few times. At the beginning he was very nice and patient. He listened and tried to explain things but after the first visit he begin to be in a rush. ALSO, he does not take notes nor has a computer in the room. Many times he forgot things or had the wrong information. I needed a referral for my eyes(I have an eye decease) and he kept me waiting for a month. I had neck pain and he just told me to come back for another visit to talk about it. Don't waste your time and money going there nor put your health at risk.

I just had my first appointment with Dr. De La Cruz and he is so genuine and knowledgeable. I can hardly contain my joy in finding such an amazing person. As a firm believer in Christ, it's so nice to have an actual medical doctor with the same beliefs. Traditional medicine doctors just kept writing it off, saying I have fibromyalgia. Dr. De La Cruz looks for the root cause and doesn't just cover up the symptoms with toxic pharmaceuticals like the other doctors wanted to do! (Cympalta, Lyrica, Amitriptyline, anti depressants etc!)

I am grateful I found a doctor I can trust. Dr. De La Cruz has always shown great care and knowledge. He listens and demonstrates he truly cares about my health as he is not quick to prescribe a pill. Instead, he explained how the medicine would work and provided multiple resources that I may fully understand my options to improve my health in the best way that works for me. He was recommended by a friend and I will highly recommend him to other friends!

Very thorough, knowledgeable and understanding doctor. It obvious he cares about his patients and isnt always so quick to just throw a pill at a problem. He listens to the patient/issue, treats symptoms based on patient trust in a traditional way, but then provides a comprehensive plan for the patient to research the root cause of health related issues, such as correcting lifestyle and dietary changes, into a more wholistic approach. Highly recommend.

After 5 doctors who wouldn’t listen to me, I finally found Dr. De La Cruz. He never rushed me and truly listened to everything I was experiencing. He found my diagnosis of Lyme disease, which is hard to pinpoint. Grateful for a doctor that genuinely cares not only about your health and well-being, but also about you as a person. Love his approach of a mix of both holistic and traditional medical treatments.

I had a terrible experience. My first appointment was rushed because I mentioned that I was paying out of pocket, and would like some consideration on the bill. I paid $150 for a half-hour of not hearing anything new, and wasn't even given an order for any labs. I attempted to request an order in between appointments, and it took weeks to get a solid answer, which by that time I was beyond frustrated.

Dr. De La Cruz provides both a medical and holistic approach to a condition that requires knowledge of both fields of thought. After being diagnosed with Lyme Disease I researched doctors in Chicago who specialize in it, and I am glad I chose Dr. De La Cruz. He is kind and actually listens and talks to you about how you are feeling and the next steps to make you feel better.

They claim to be patient-centric and focused on helping their patients, but they really are just interested in taking as much money as possible. Save your time and go to a place that have more than one doctor instead of a place that has only one doctor that is more interested in getting paid than the well-being and financial stability of his patients.

Had a telemed visit that I was never sent I link for then charged for. When I asked it to be removed, AFTER I CALLED TO RESCHEDULE, I was argued with and was told it was my fault. Needless to say I won't be going back. Customer service needs a major overhaul.

Great doctor. Very compassionate and believes in integrative medicine which most doctors just give you a pill for your condition. Ann is wonderful and always there when you need her. She has helped me tremendously during my difficult times.

I was not looking to find a Dr. in Lincoln Park, just assuming they'd be overpriced but Dr. Marco is the opposite of that. He's a great Dr, always looking to help & is available more than most ever would be.
