CLICK "MORE" TO SEE REPLY TO THEIR REPLY "Oh you just have to hold him, he'll be still for you." Says the vet while he squirms frantically, nonstop, while they try to hold him. Eventually they try to put a muzzle on him, he snaps at them, and that is the end of the session. No acknowledgment that "oh you just have to hold him" was both false and incredibly condescending. Also: When I mention the possibility of anxiety meds for him, the vet looks at him for two seconds and says "No he's a happy dog, you just have to spend some time training him." I'm sure with a two second glance they can tell exactly what his life is like 24 hours a day. I'm sure his textbook signs of anxiety which I tried to report to them but which they did not take a moment to listen to, are fully dismissable based on their two second judgment that "he's a happy dog." A week later I go to a different vet (Indy PAWS), and have a much more positive experience--because they actually make a point of listening first before making a judgment. EDIT IN RESPONSE TO THEIR RESPONSE: In their response below, they mention saying "he's not a bad dog, he's a happy dog." I don't recall them saying "he's not a bad dog," and it would be strange if they did, as the idea that he would be a "bad dog" is not something I have ever thought, said or implied, making it a puzzle why they would bring it up. It has been a week since the conversation so let us assume the vet in question is simply misremembering rather than attempting to insinuate something about my attitude towards the dog. (For the record my feelings about him are: Marley is an incredibly sweet puppy, eager to please, and largely well trained, albeit rambunctious and exciteable. He is in an unfortunate situation which is unfair to him--not enough room to play, not enough company -- but at least not abandoned in a field as he would have been by his previous owners.) They speak of my feeling "judged." I don't feel judged--I don't believe they learned enough about me or Marley to be able to judge either of us! I used the word "judgment" in my review to refer to their decision about Marley's disposition and needs. They judged that he is a happy dog who just needs to be held in order to be calmed down. The latter was proven wrong as they uttered the words. (They could have just asked me.) The former was woefully incomplete (one can be happy and suffer from anxiety as well) and failed entirely to invite, much less listen, to my input. I got as far as an opening remark that he pants a lot, to which they replied that panting need not be a sign of anxiety and that was it. No more was asked of me concerning his other textbook signs of anxiety. They also advised that hundreds or thousands of dollars worth of training would help.* As they say: no sh** sherlock! I suppose they get a lot of people who need to learn that there is a thing called dog training but they could at least open the topic by first asking what the customer thinks of it, rather than introducing it as though it were an easy panacea open to all that the customer just hasn't thought of yet! *This estimate is based on my contact with their top-advised trainer, for whom an initial consult is $400. Perhaps that trainer is particularly expensive.

We've been taking our fur babies to East Side Animal Hospital for approx. 20+ years. We used to RAVE about the care we received there and their reasonable prices. We have referred so many people there. I still stand behind how amazing Dr. Samland and Dr. Schnepf are. Both are brilliant and caring. IT'S THE NEW STAFF that is the problem. I completely understand the stress this pandemic has put on the world, but I truly believe it doesn't give people the right to be unepathetic and uncaring. We sent an email expressing how we have been treated by the staff and still have never received a response. I am not sure who received the email, but I don't think they forwarded it to the doctors. I am really heartbroken over this. We have since switched practices. Pictured is our fur baby, Harvey. He would have been 15 yrs old on February 16th. Harvey passed on Janurary 14. We had Lap of Love come to our home. They took his body to have it cremated and then his ashes were sent to East Side. We got a VM, less than a week later from East Side, from one of their front office staff cheerfully stating that she was trying to reach David Strauss and that they had received Harvey's ashes. She said we could come and pick them up at our earliest convience and ended it with "Have a good one!" Where is the compassion there??? We went immediately to pick Harvey up. I called when we got there and the girl said she would bring him out. When she brought him out, she was holding a brown bag with Harvey's box of ashes and paperwork by her finger, not being caring at all, and handed them to me. The only thing she said was "Do you have any questions?" When I said no, she turned and walked away. Were the doctors even notified that a fur baby that they have take care of for almost 15 yrs had passed and they had his ashes? I don't think so, because they would have reached out or sent a sympathy card. We have always received a sympathy card for all of our fur babies that have passed, signed by all of the staff. There is so much more that happened, but I feel that I've said enough at this point. It's just really said. :(

1000% recommend East Side Animal Hospital. I rescued a puppy and they person I got her from runs a Kennel for GS. I asked her where to take her and she told me about East Side Animal Hospital. I took her to the Vet for the first time in May 2023. The staff was Amazing. They were very caring and helpful. I have had 9 dogs in my life and have never had a puppy. So I was FULL of questions. They all took the time to answer my questions. Fast forward to Aug 2023 my parents older dog was getting really sick. My parents knew how happy I was with the staff and the price so they asked for the info. We were able to get her in right away. The staff was amazing and really tried to do everything for her. At the end of Sept. 2023 unfortunately she stopped eating and stopped getting up. So we had to put her down. They staff was honestly so amazing. They got us into a room within 2 minutes of walking in the door so we were not in the waiting room with her. They gave us a blanket to lay her on so she was not on just the table. In the first week of Oct. 2023 we got a card in the mail that was signed by all of the staff as well as paw prints and a cute little jar with some of her hair in it. It was a great to see all the love and care. Today my dad is taking our other dog in for a vet visit. Tomorrow I am taking my "puppy" to get fixed. I am sure the staff is going to be great!!! East Side Animal Hospital is our Vet for Life!!

I’ve been meaning to write a review on ESAH for a few weeks now. We brought this little (not so much anymore) cutie home 9 weeks ago (she’s currently 17 weeks) and Dr. Schneph and his team have provided wonderful veterinary services for her since. For those of you with Doberman’s, or any breed in which ear cropping is common, I think hers speak for the amazing work Dr Schneph is able to perform. I called so many Vet Clinics before contacting East Side, trying to stay close to home, and was made to feel like a bad owner by some of these places because I simply asked if they provided ear cropping services. Dr. Schneph and his team understand every breed and never made me feel that way. And she never EVER displayed any signs of pain post-op, the stitches just bothered her from time to time but she got over it and boy do those things stand pretty! I live in Carmel. I won’t take my dog anywhere else. I was admittedly judge mental about this place at first based on the location, but man am I glad I brought her here. The whole team at ESAH genuinely care about each pet that walks through their doors.i

Awful the place really stinks inside and dirty the veterinarian referred us to a indy specialist hospital on victory drive out south do not go there if you are a person of color they don't treat black people very nice they are very prejudice they told us it would be a 8 to 10 hour wait to be seen for our pet it's all a scam to try and get your money don't go to east side animal hospital either on the corner of 34 and Arlington and Massachusetts across from Mr Dan's they are a rip off also it stinks so bad on there its so nasty they need to clean it up if your pet don't have anything. • Sonya Greenwade

I love this place. I have been bringing my dog there since he was a puppy. Everyone is so nice and caring. They will work with you on prices. The location is not far from my house, which is a plus. I would like to take this time out to acknowledge Dr. Schnepf for caring for Jack Black for 12 years. You were empathetic to his needs as well as our concerns for him. I made the heartbreaking decision to put my baby down yesterday. Dr. Schnepf I want to publicly thank you for caring for Jack, and supporting us throughout his cancer diagnosis. You take care and love into every animal you treat and you always do it with a smile. You've always been professional and courteous and for that I'm truly thankful. May God continue to bless you richly.

This is the best vet I have ever been to I just recently moved to Indianapolis from West Virginia and had a liter of puppies one of the puppies ended up needing surgery and was on the line of life or death, needless to say I was an emotional wreck.. we couldn’t find ANYWHERE to take our puppy for surgery, and if she didn’t have the surgery THAT DAY we would have lost her.. east side saved her life I ended up keeping her and have a beautiful, energetic, happy, and healthy baby girl. This is one place that TRULY cares about the animals they care for and I could never thank them enough the vets and vet techs are amazing and kind and they truly go the extra mile! I will use this vet as long as live in this state.

  • Unicorn Reborn

I was incredibly pleased with the service at this clinic! I grew up in a rural town and took all my pets to a country vet. As an adult living in the city, I've yearned for that small town, affordable, and friendly vet clinic hidden in Indianapolis and I've finally found it! This clinic has no fancy bells and whistles, they don't try to sell you their special food, nor do they push expensive and unnecessary procedures. They are down to earth people who truly love animals and are willingly to hear you out. They even handwrite all their records! I swear this in the country vet in the city I've been looking for! I have found my home!

  • Elise Likens

I can not give enough positive feedback about this place. These vets and staff are in this occupation for the right reasons, the love and want to help animals. After going to few different vet offices on the north side, before being recommended here, I can tell you this office is 100% fair on cost. They are not here to sell you services you don't need, they are here to help care for your animals. I have had 5+ co-workers and family members also switch over after hearing me talk so highly of the office and they all feel the same way. They made a life long customer out of me!

  • Jordan Klivansky

Two of the best veterinarians I know are here. They offer compassionate care and are always able to answer questions of concern. All around the staff is wonderful from the front desk to back of the house. My pets are not thrilled going to the vet but they do there best to put them at ease and make them comfortable. The surgery done here for Aria went extremely well and I was pleased with the results. I've been coming here for over 20years with family pets and now with 2 cats of my own. Love you East Side Animal Hospital!!

  • Ms.M.Lorelai Bennett

I started visiting the ESAH when I took in a friend's dog. She needed a new home, so she found her furever home with us. We took her to ESAH because that is where she had always gone before. I got to meet the staff and the doctors... they are all so kind and caring. Now I take my other 3 pups there. Not only is the staff accommodating, but the Drs' are wonderful and it is absolutely affordable. My 4-legged babies will continue to get care at the East Side Animal Hospital from now on.

  • Jasmine Scott

This place was a life-saver. Our doxle, Sasha ( dachshund-beagle) was diagnosis with pyometra and needed her uterus to be taken out. Her surgery last week and doing really well. East Side Animal help us a lot because a lot of places we called stated that to perform the surgery ranged from $2,500 to $5,000 but her surgery was under those prices and very reasonable. I appreciate all the help East Side Animal Hospital has done for our dog. Update: Sasha is doing great!!!

  • Tara layne

This used to be an amazing place to take your animals, our family has been using this vet for almost 30 years. But after my experience on Thursday March 17th, 2021 that opinion has drastically changed. The unprofessional behavior of thier vet tech, at drop off for a teeth cleaning was horrendous. Aggressive behavior with my dog is just unacceptable, then lying about thier unprofessional behavior is just appalling. Truly saddened and dissapointed by this encounter.

  • Megan Dockins

I am so very pleased with the staff! The ladies there are so incredibly nice and friendly!! I was very skeptical about going at first, but I am so thankful I decided to go!! No other place I'd go!! They show they care about your animals and they answer any question you may have without making you feel stupid and they don't have an attitude about you asking questions, its amazing! Thank you ladies for being so kind and caring!! Love this place!

  • Catherine Davis

I was a nervous when I arrived at the hospital but my best friend Onyx Alexander was injured. Yet, once I walked through the door realized that I had made the right decision. The friendly staff and Schnepf put my mind to ease. I found them to be honest and was given info to keep Onyx healthy in the future. I would recommend the East Side Animal Hospital to anyone. Thank you so much.

  • Jim Blythe

They used to be more friendlier, when they can have 350,000 people at a race, or fly on a plane without a mask, you would think that people would be able to come into your Vet's office without waiting in your car before they call you inside. If the reason is because some unruly pets, then they need to wait outside. They shouldn't use covid as their excuse. ☹

  • B D

They have been awesome since day 1 when we started taking our dog Moo Moo there. Moved out of county and still continue to go there because of how great they treat us and our animals. Our cat Earl was neutered there today, they kept us updated with results and he was very well taken care of. Thank you guys for the awesome care and work you guys continue to do.

  • April Lyons

I thought this was a great place for my fur babies, til I watched a vet send a elderly man w his dying poodle away cause she had a lunch date, the puppy was shaking very bad couldn’t walk barely could hold his head up, it was very sad to watch the mans tears fall down his lil wrinkles feeling helpless,!!!! My heart was broken, that could have been me or you!!

  • Kitt Campbell

I LOVE this place! My family has been going here for DECADES and when I got my little guy, I knew where to go. Always do their best to fit you in and they are so sweet and kind to ALL our pets, even some grumpy ones. The pricing is fair and I don't feel overcharged for their services unlike some other places. I would definitely recommend you try them out!

  • James Perkins

Absolutely wonderful. The staff here is beyond reproach. They care so much about the animals they see and the people that they deal with. They have been so good with my dogs, one of which would not be alive if not for their expertise and care They have squeezed us in for emergencies and helped us over the phone. The people make this place. Support them.

  • GSD Rescue/Sanctuary Indy

I've been a client since 1995 and still take my personal and rescue dogs to see Dr. Schnepf and Dr. Samland. They are by far, the most affordable vet care option that I've found. No frills equals reasonable vet care costs. Dr. Schnepf provides the most detailed exams of any vet clinic I've experienced. He has caught several issues that others missed.

  • Jossie Soto

Everyone was very caring and understanding. Very reasonable prices . This will be my dogs vet for the rest of their lives . I trust them completely to help me make sure they live long healthy lives. I thank God I found this wonderful vet. It takes a weight off my shoulders knowing they will have the care they need and that I can afford.

  • Maxs Starman

Eastside Animal Hospital is the best place to go for your dog or cat. They are very affordable and remembers your pet by name. They are very friendly so your pet always loves to see the nurses and doctors. This is the only place worthy of taking your animal too. Don't take my word for it, see for yourself. They are absolutely great.

  • Amanda M

Office staff including my dogs doctor are all very professional and caring when it come to attending to my puppy dog. They make sure that he's always up to date on his shots and worm pills. My puppy dog as I call him is almost 4 years old and this is the only place that he's been since birth. And the only place I will ever take him.

  • Properties Maxsstarman

This is the best Vet for your dog to go to ever. They have the best prices and actually care about your dog. They remember the names. And the dogs remember them. I don't know where I would be if it wasn't for East side Animal Clinic. This place will take care of your animal needs. I love you guys!!! 5 Stars!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Kevin Lee

Dr. Schnepf and his staff are wonderful. I highly recommend this facility. I take my weimarainer there for all of his needs as well as boarding. I feel re-assured that my friend is safe and is very well taken care of. There prices are very reasonable and well worth the drive from where I live to Eastside Animal Hospital.

  • Courtney Mosley

Do NOT recommend!!!!! Very poor customer service. Poor communication. Extremely long wait times. You’re going to need to at least an hour, if not more because they do not follow their schedule. There’s no complaint process. Just a building full of piss poor workers!!!!! Definitely will NEVER be back!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Keshia Boddie

East Side Animal Hospital was clean, affordable, accommodating, and very friendly. I'm new to the area and was looking for a new vet for my 12 year old pup. I really love the fact that they created a personal webpage for my dog. Keeping me updated on everything about Amos Definitely a great hidden jewel!

  • Lizz Schunn

My puppy's first visit was rough because it was a new situation and she got a shot, but this is her regular vet now and she loves it :) Got in a fight with a raccoon earlier this year and ate an entire gingerbread house this week, she is always well cared for and I never feel like an over anxious pet mommy.

  • Susan Eirthug

The staff is the friendliest you will ever find. They don't push you to jump into unnecessary, expensive procedures. Common sense prevails here. I am kinda new here but confident enough to make more appointments, for my difficult little chihuahua who has lots of health problems, to have his teeth cleaned.

  • Brandi P

I take both of my dogs here, and they can be a handful!! Dr Schneff is awesome and has never made me feel like they are a problem. You can tell he genuinely cares about the animals and loves what he does! He is absolutely the best!!!! I usually deal with Daniela and she is also the sweetest person ever!!

  • Shawn Smith

My family have been going here for the past 20 years. It's really affordable. The staff always go above and beyond making sure they take excellent care of our pets and always help us with advice. Each time any one in my family go in we are relieved to know our little one's are receiving top notch care.

  • Mark Sobley

I have been going to this location for 20-plus years and I find everyone who works there to be very polite and kind towards my pets. Pricing I think is great compared to some of the other locations on the Eastside. Only problem is that they are so busy it is hard to get an appointment quickly.

  • Bethany Reeves

We have taken our dogs to East Side for at least 10 years. We love the staff and they obviously love animals. Both of the vets are understanding and knowledgeable while understanding people's budgets. It is not the most modern facility but it is most reasonable vet care I have found.

  • Dani Stevenson

Made an appointment for 4:30 PM which they considered a “walk in appointment” and then was never seen or told how long it would be to get seen. After waiting 2hrs with no update, left. Highly annoyed. Will not be back. Had to leave work early to make the scheduled appointment time.

  • Lisa Pyron

I always have a positive experience at East Side Animal Hospital. Whenever one of my pets is ill and needs to be seen immediately the staff manage to fit us in. Everyone is attentive and kind and the pricing for services is affordable. I will never take my pets anywhere else.
