Update: 5/8/23 — returned and had the Jager Schnitzel ($18.95). The pork was very tender; and the breading nice and crisp. Loved the mushroom sauce, and could have used more. The potatoes were ok, but could have been warmer. It was nice to substitute red cabbage… only it was a small serving that could have been served warmer. I was still hungry and tried the ‘Opa’s Favorite.’ That was quite good. It’s breaded Gouda cheese with a cranberry sauce. ($12.95) A very nice meal… and good bier. My first experience was last night. I dined at the bar which was nice and spacious. Tyler was the bartender/server; and I started off with a draft beer that was tasty and refreshing. No appetizers. The entree I had was their Wienerschnitzel that came with potatoes and cucumber salad. I wanted red cabbage and ordered a side too. The schnitzel was very good; as was the cabbage. The other sides were okay, but didn’t wow me. Desert was the only disappointment as I tried the apple strudel. It took awhile for the order to come out which was strange. When it arrived, the topping of powder sugar is par; but to drizzle caramel sauce over it is unusual. The apple filling was okay; yet there was no depth of sliced apples filling the pastry. The dough was soft and mushy. About the only part that was on point was the side of ice cream. Tyler asked if everything was okay, and I shared with him my view. He was very kind to adjust my check for the disappointment. The meal overall would have been about $50. Not bad given the two large veal cutlets, and additional side. Well worth driving to. I plan to return, and try more of their menu.

Looking to try some German grub without a passport? Come on down to Edelweiss!!!! It's one of our favorite restaurants in north Phoenix. True to German and Hungarian culture with a beer garden feel. The beers are plenty (STRONGLY recommend the Schneider Aventinus weizen-eisbock, but carefully as it is high in alcohol content). You really cannot go wrong with any menu item but this time I ordered the Hühner Schnitzel which is a lightly fried, thin-pressed chicken breast served with a garlic sauce. They serve sauces on the side to keep the crispiness of the deep fry. It's been one of our favorite places for a while now. Luckily, it's not as popular as Haus Murphy's (feature on "Diners, Drive Ins and Dives"), but honestly, it's better at Edelweiss!

Kids are welcome and many families bring everyone to enjoy their time. On Friday night, there was live music with an accordion player! Kids were dancing and having a great time. Just br respectful of other diners and you'll have a great time with the family.

We decided to make the hour drive to check out Edelweiss for our 14th anniversary. The drive was worth it, as the food, service and atmosphere were all excellent. We had the Beef Stroganoff and Wienerschnitzel which were both very tasty. There are front and rear sections for seating and the atmosphere was definitely like your typical German restaurant/pub. We arrived at about 4 p.m. on Saturday and there were only a few others seated for dining so there was now wait, but the number of patrons increased while we were there. It will be worth another trip to try some of the other dishes.

Hadn't been here since it was the Wagon Wheel. There wasn't enough parking, had to park in the strip mall lot next door. It's Saturday night, the place is very busy. My friends already had a table and drinks, we all order food and a beer for myself. Lot's of improvements since my last visit but directly over our table is an AC duct with no register. It's blowing very cold air right at us. 30+ minutes no beer or food. I roam around til I find our server and ask about the beer. About 10 more minutes I get the beer About an hour after ordering, a guy from the kitchen brings a few entrées out and impatiently demands who has what? The food was pretty good but got cold instantly with the AC issue. Finally get the check and I'm charged for an extra beer. There were more issues but I have said enough. I won't be going back anytime soon.

I don’t understand the mostly positive reviews for this place. Went with my husband for lunch, on our anniversary. It looks like a dive on the outside, and while we were waiting to be seated we noticed how dusty everything was. We should have turned around and left then. The carpet and ceiling fan were especially cruddy. We both ordered the Cordon Bleu. The flavor was good but it wasn’t tender. I got a side of Jäger mushroom sauce and it was barely warm. The potatoes were almost certainly yesterday’s leftovers - limp and soggy, and barely lukewarm. I asked for a small dish of red cabbage since the potatoes were terrible. It was okay. The cucumber salad was mushy and too sweet. Best I can say is that the beer was cold. The restroom was awful, and seeing the kitchen area while walking by it was a real eye opener. Yuck.

Very happy place. Loved the atmosphere. Complete with an accordion player who has a wide variety of songs. Imagine Johnny Cash singing I Walk the Line accompanied with an accordion player! The service was exceptional! The giant pretzel with beer cheese is a must order and had a good beer selection. I was slightly disappointed with the stroganoff. The meat was flavorful and tender but I am very picky about my spaetzel. It was very bland and a tad bit gummy. Might have been that particular day. My companions sausages and schnitzel were great.

I love coming here, the food is good. sometimes cook has a bad day and schnitzel comes out too dry. But their beer selection is amazing it makes up for dry schnitzel. Condon Bleu is fantastic. My S/O loves their beef stroganoff. It's priced well, service is awesome, people are friendly, amosphere is great especially if you sit outdoors (when weather permits it), and the best part is the fantastic selection of liquid bread, aka beer.

Theres certain dishes have mushrooms in their sauce. If you have mushroom intolerance/allergy, I would advise asking which ones because it is not clearly displayed on the menu.

My boyfriend is German so he and I enjoy visiting German restaurants and events. We decided to finally check out Edelweiss one evening as it was the last place we hadn’t been to. Our server was attentive but he was lacking some information about the menu. I ordered the jaegerschnitzel and my boyfriend had the curry wurst. The schnitzel was okay. It was a bit dry and they didn’t provide very much sauce which I think would have made it better. My boyfriend seemed to enjoy his curry wurst and thought it was pretty authentic (as I recall). One thing neither of us liked was the live music. The man they had performing that night was playing such random songs that didn’t sound great and it was extremely loud. Although my food wasn’t fantastic I plan to return to give Edelweiss another chance in the future when it’s cool enough to sit in the Biergarten.

Great, unassuming spot! Honestly wasn’t expecting it as it doesn’t look like much as you drive by. Get inside though and you’ll find a very chill atmosphere and some delicious food and beer!! I tried the original bratwurst and it was yummy! It comes sort of deconstructed which I actually really enjoyed. I also tried some pretzel bites which were yummy as well (especially with the cheese). Unfortunately, the first time I went here, they were out of a lot of beers. Still, I tried the Radenberger Schofferhofer Grapefruit Hefeweizen and it was refreshing after a long days work. Would highly recommend a stop on by! Enjoy

Definitely an interesting experience. My mother got the stuffed cabbage rolls, which were puny and served with some kind of side of slimy looking stuff. It came with rye bread, which she didn't want and asked for a substitute but they said they had no other type of bread in their entire restaurant. I got the Hackbraten, which I guess was supposed to be like a meatloaf and man alive was it ever salty. My blood pressure was off the charts. It also had a bizarre texture, like dog food. Other customers have made comments raving about the atmosphere. Maybe I came at the wrong time of day because the atmosphere was yawn-inducing. I never saw any fat, jolly man in lederhosen playing on the old squeeze box so, I don't know. The place needed a good cleaning too, as I saw dust all over the sills and decor.

  • Michael Stanley

This place was beyond my expectations. And good friend of mine and I went on a Sunday afternoon during Octoberfest. The atmosphere was splendid. I immediately ordered a big Hofbrau Octoberfest beer, which was lovely to the last drop. The menu was simple, and I saw that as a good sign. I decided to order the Jager Schnitzel, and it paired perfectly with the beer. My friend was happy with what he ordered as well. We had a great and satisfying time. When trying a restaurant/food for the 1st time, one can often be disappointed, but this was a unicorn of fulfillment.

Went here once last year, the food was great and authentic. This year we drove here across whole town again for my birthday, hoping to have same experience. It couldn't be more different. First despite the place being almost empty it took more than half an hour before we got our appetizers and almost whole hour before we got the meals. Despite taking all that time, the food unfortunately looked and tasted like it was cooked at least earlier that day, if not couple days before and was just reheated. For $70 dollars dinner it was pretty sad experience.

The good things: Our waitress was very friendly and sweet. The food was good, the homemade red cabbage tasted excellent. Good size portions and not over -priced . They have a really good selection of beers. However….. it’s called Edelweiss BIERGARDEN. Turns out, we had to sit inside because they did not serve outside. .. on a nice October evening??? Everything is very dirty. Floors are full of dirt and debris. Atmosphere of a beer pub at 3am. The menus were very sticky. We couldn’t touch them. We pointed that out, we got different menus, unfortunately not much better. Overall, I would not recommend this place .

Greg was amazing and the atmosphere was incredible. The beer list was a trip to Bavaria,German and other amazing European amazing ness!! It's so great to see places keep it true to their roots and culture. I mean when you hear Hasslehoff you know you've made it. The food menu, is just as good as the Beer. Meat sweats are abundant but it's worth it. 2 words. Biregarten and Schnitzel.

Found this gem by doing a little searching around on Google, it’s essentially a German / Hungarian beer garden. Very nice atmosphere, the staff are super friendly, really awesome and authentic options on the menu, and the quality of the dishes is top tier! I love this place and will keep coming back! I recommend the chicken paprikash & the schnitzel. You will not be disappointed!

First visit to Edelweiss was great. It was first anniversary week celebration so first 16oz beer was $1! My lady and I got the Hungarian goulash and the WONDERFUL Jagerschnitzel. It was the best schnitzel I’ve ever had, and I’ve been to Germany and Austria more than once. The atmosphere was good, patio was nice although the pet pig was getting a little frisky! There was an accordion player in the front room but we couldn’t hear him in the back room. It would be nice if they had video of him on the back room screen (instead of baseball game) with good sound all over the restaurant so we could hear. Will be back for the schnitzel for sure!

  • Sandi Strand

We came to have the Sauerbraten only to find out you took it off the menu. My second choice was cabbage rolls. You took it off the menu. I settled for Cordoned Blue which was a disappointment because the cheese was only at one end so I only got a small bit of cheese. I also ordered the sauerkraut and again was disappointed. The last time I had it, it was excellent. This time it tasted like it came out of a can. I suspect that if this is now your menu, you will soon be out of business. I know I won’t be back.

Edelweiss certainly has lots of atmosphere, and a true beer garden outdoor space for seating that is inviting and open. Beer selection is authentic, cold, and available in sizes you'd expect (large steins available). So that said, while I generally enjoyed my experience, service was short staffed with long gaps between when we ordered and received food and drinks. When we finally received our last order they gave us the check and told us it was closing time all at once, after an hour and a half wait. So something to be desired on the customer support end.

Great outside area, massive beers, currywurst! Update! We went back, sat inside, and it was AWESOME. My big fear with a place like this is that it goes downhill after opening, Edelweiss is the opposite, it is instantly apparent that they are working to improve as they go, the interior is getting better all the time, big park benches, potted plants, they are really working on making this a fantastic family beer hall. Staff are super friendly, don't rush you, which as a European is hugue. Larry the accordionist is pure class. And the food is from scratch every day, every, day. Give this place a visit, it is fantastic!

  • David Sterne

Great German beer, and great German food. The staff were friendly and knowledgeable of the menu. The accordion player in the back only added to the authenticity of the dining experience. In my opinion, I felt the menu was a little expensive. Will definitely return to try other dishes on the menu, but maybe on special occasions. Prost!

German and Hungarian food. German beer. All was great. This place is large with a beer garden in the back. Bar was very decorative and ornate. Recommend the sausage. Too hot to drink in beer garden. Warm inside and lacked waitresses. Waitress did a great job anyway. Accordion player was cheesy. Seemed like he was doing karaoke accordion. Otherwise, I will return.

Great German biers and terrific food. Very knowledgable and friendly servers for people unsure of Germanic/Hungarian fare. Always order Opa’s Favorite as either appetizer or dessert. It’s that good. On the other end, it’s the first weekend of their Oktoberfest celebration. On a Saturday. No ambiance. No live music. This place was great pre-covid but still hasn’t fully recovered their vibe. It would take just a little more effort to be a great place.

Absolutely amazing from top to bottom. The bratwurst and sauerkraut were just amazing. Add to that a delicious Ayinger Celebrator to drink and you’re in for a real authentic European treat. Our service was amazing and the ambiance was delightful. There was even a dude playing polka and the volume was perfect enough that you could enjoy it and still have a conversation with your friends. I’ve been needing to get here for awhile, and now I don’t know how I’ve lived without this glorious restaurant in my life. Huge shout out to Zach for the great service and most excellent recommendation on beer.

The Hungarian sausage tasted great. The red cabbage tasted like my Gram’s. The potatoes were great too. The breaded chicken was dry and the garlic sauce it came with was not great. The pretzel bites with cheese were excellent. The cucumber salad was decent but not great. The hazelnut cookie dough was a good way to end the night. The 4 Star review is really for the service. Food came out quickly which was great, but the attitude of the server and lack of any urgency made for a less then great evening. Good food though!

Great german beer garden here in Phoenix! They have a MASSIVE selection of beers, make sure you put on your big boy pants and get a 32 oz beer while here. The food is out of this world, the sausages are to die for as are the schnitzels, and make sure to try the Opa's favorite fried cheese! You'll be coming back again and again to try and work your way thru their menu, it's too much to try all at once even though you'll want to try! It's a great place for a casual meal or a special occasion, and the back patio is huge!

  • Ken Arend

We arrived right around 11:30 on Sunday because the last few Saturday nights I've tried to get in but the wait was well over an hour. (If you go, you'll see why!) Even on first service, our waiter was incredibly enthusiastic and jovial. He recommended an outstanding chicken paprikash "off menu" (seriously, ask for it!) and the Eisbein. Both were delectable. Beer was cold. Food was fresh. Service was outstanding. Life is good. You may have slower service during peak hours, but the food and atmosphere are well worth it.

  • Halo Dada

Horrible experience. Place is dark and dingy, smells like stale sour beer. Food was bland and overpriced. Service was horrible, she was super lazy and more concerned with her phone. Got tired of waiting for my beer so I went to the bar. No bartender on duty. After all that, we're leaving and there was a group of guys smoke weed just outside the front door with a Sketch parking lot.

We've tried a few German restaurants in the US .... There might be good ones in places we haven't been to yet This one, though, was the best one we have experienced ! Good authentic German and Hungarian food, great beer. To me being half-czekoslovakian-quarter Austrian quarter Hungarian, being brought up in Germany it was a pleasure not only to find good food but also great service from a German-Irish waiter on a Sunday afternoon in Arizona Thank you very much, Sean We'll be back.

Really good food. Feels very homemade. We started with the big pretzels and beer cheese, happy the cheese wasn’t that strong. Also we got the csusza, it was really good! Taste like a Romanian dish with feta cheese and bacon, but pasta instead of polenta. Also the cordon bleu is really good. Got the huhner schnitzel and it was good. Also got the beer hot sausage and it’s really good. They do give you complementary birthday dessert.

The reviews seem quite variable. We thought that the food was very good, huge selection of beer, very good service if they are not busy. The parking lot fills fast. It was cold in the restaurant. Some reviewers complain about the prices, but those people have not eaten out recently -- this place is reasonable considering the quality of the cutlets served. It is moderately priced. Recommended. Go early. Do not sit near the live music unless you do not mind deafening volume level.

  • Sean Temple

Kind and attentive service, food was done quickly, and the taste was decent. I really want to give it three and a half stars but for or like it rather than a three. They really need to clean the windows and the air vents, it's kind of a necessity and a place of dining. Love the European flare and will definitely be back to try some other stuff.

A great German outpost with authentic fare and plenty of German beer to be had. The Schnitzel and Sausages are fantastic. If you are in the mood for a snack, definitely go for the pretzel bites... or the giant pretzel if you’re starving! Both are accompanied by a delicious beer cheese sauce. Check out the outdoor biergarten and say hello to the friendly pig! So, if you are in the mood for some authentic German Beer, Food and Music, look no further than Edelweiss Biergarten

I enjoyed the food. The main dish was great. I had one of the schnitzel options with bacon and mushroom gravy. The fried potatoes were just OK. I wish they were a bit crispier. The pickle salad was... different. I ate at the bar in the middle of the day and it was way too dark, so every time someone opened the front door to enter it was blinding. *Note: I had to use my flash for the picture.

I am not even sure where to begin with my review. This was my first experience with German and Hungarian cuisine and it was absolutely amazing. Our server was friendly and gave great recommendations for our drinks and food. The food quality and flavors were impressive, everything was hot and fresh. The apple strudel was probably our favorite but the entire experience was wonderful. We will definitely be back for more.

Food was not fresh. Tasted and looked like it was sitting in the fridge for days and they just microwaved it before serving it. Took them for ever to take order, and bring food. Last year our experience was the opposite, the food was great and great service. Not this time around. Really disappointed since we were really looking forward to have a nice meal here.

It was our first try in German cuisine. ... The location was good. Has an average parking space. ... the restaurant was ambiance of bit of Germany and garden. ... picnics tables. ... It's just we didn't get to experience the out door sitting. ...may be next time when its warmer. ... The service was okay. ... the price is between $10-20 plus drinks per person. ... the food was great. ... we had a great lunch. ...

  • Eric Pautsch

The food was ok. I was expecting better. Will probably go back and try something different. Maybe it was a bad day. Took a long time, but they did give us compensation on check, and I didn't have to say anything.

Oomph music was so loud I could not hear my date from across a small picnic table. The music was so loud I could not hear the waiter ask what dish I had hence he served me the plate. The kitchen messed up my order in doing so. This eas the first time I had been there.

This place is quickly becoming one of my favorites in the Phoenix area. They offer very good German classics. Also the staff is always super friendly and they have a fantastic server named Omar. Last but not least they also have a fantastic accordionist live.

We adore Edelweiss Biergarten. The atmosphere, the music and the food make for an amazing night out. It is a restaurant that pleases both the children and the adults in your dinner party. Was a fun night for all. Kids loved dancing on the patio listening to the accordion player. The adults loved the huge beers. Every single plate at our table was wiped clean, not a crumb left.

Live accordian music and families enjoying themselves. German beers were tasty! The server was so helpful in finding what we would like with their beer selection. Food was ok.

Went in here for lunch today, for the first time. Tried the stroganoff. The homemade noodles reminded me so much of the noodles mom used to make when I was a kid. Portions bigger than either of us could finish. Will definitely be back...

Probably one of the more authentic Beer Gardens in Phoenix. It's nothing fancy, with wooden picnic table seating including outdoor seating. Most all their fare in German cuisine which is quite good. We came about 8pm on a Friday night and there was an accordion player performing which was lots of fun. The live music/accordion player is Wed - Sat 6-9 and Sunday 5-8.

  • Samuel Ruth

Do yourself a favor, pay a visit to Edelweiss. The food is incredible, Jager Schnitzel and the Chicken Paprishka (think I spelled that right) are both incredible. Plus German beer and pretzels with beer cheese. Edelweiss is most certainly one of the best restaurants and dining experiences in the Phoenix area.

I enjoyed this place. It is very close to any German experience. They offer 1L beer options, or 32oz for Americans, which is authentic European. The food was delicious and we will definitely be back. The service was good.

My wife and I have been looking for a German restaurant since moving to AZ from the Midwest. We finally found it!!! The food is great, many selections of beer and the atmosphere is perfect. The food prices are surprisingly great too. If you enjoy good German food, you'll be glad you came here!!!!

While I am disappointed in the change to the menu (making Chicken Paprikash a special instead of a staple), I always receive excellent service and good for during my visits. My husband especially enjoys the beer selection! He recommends Weinhenstephaner Hefeweissbier.

Food was absolutely amazing. Had ham that litteraly fell off the bone. Got to try some new beer and over all atmosphere was amazing! We went with a large group and were all served quite quick. They had a person playing live music on the accordion . It was a blast.

Not so expensive, good experience, food delivery is not too fast, but, the food feels very fresh, good attention and a different experience of what is normally seen in USA restaurants. Its beer selection it's very good and authentic to what it is in Germany.

Great place for schnitzels and great German beers. No IPAs served here, hipsters need not apply. Service was great, this was our second time visiting. Dog friendly, but the head of security is a real joker (dog is named joker).

  • John Runyan

Great German food and beer! We will be back! Tomorrow! (We ate half the plate before photo op came up!) Wienerschnitzel with spaetzle and cucumber salad! Strudel! We came back 3 months later! Still just as good if not better!

  • Paulette Marshall

Oh my goodness... Heavenly food, absolutely comfort food, just like my grandma used to make. Schnitzel was fabulous and potatoes, no way you can go wrong with potatoes with bacon and onions. 100% recommend!
