Here is a quick Guide that solves many problems or concerns. ANY CHINESE OR US CITIZEN, I recommend calling Hongkong. One line always has an operator/clerk they will have information and will be able to connect or provide a few numbers. The person working may have limited Chinese. However if it's about your visa (and/or passport if your a Chinese Citizen) I highly recommend GOING TO THE NEAREST embassy. Even if it's a couple hours by plane. Visa agents of 2017 are charging the same for whatever visa L (tourist) Q1/Q2 (family or spouse) Z visa (work) Because of the high cost Agents charge It is productive to do it yourself. As it can cost $480~640usd + processing fee of embassy + agent fee + $20 for them to mail it back. You can pretty much get a visa in 1 day. Save $1,000 And not have to wait 2/3/6+ weeks For my marriage visa, I traveled to Hong Kong directly ((I had all documents and forms Filled)) in order to obtain my marriage visa. Which does have more paperwork then most other visas. It took me 1 hour. Been living with my Chinese wife in Tianjin China for 11 years, and for those traveling abroad. Chinese government or anything business related will have forms upon forms to Fill out, ITS THE CHINESE way. Whether your Western/Chinese/European They treat everyone one in the same. Do correct them if their wrong about your info _/ Do not become impatient or aggressive _/ They can deny you without reason They do not require to provide a reason Even if you have a valid visa and fly out, CUSTOMS Can deny your entry, cancel visa and will send someone back on a plane FOR NO REASON Even in America it's a very similar thing. Just may find more people who will communicate. I went to my sisters wedding in September china to the states. Then October when I was to go back... I flew the entire duration and I myself wasn't allowed in No reason No crime No overstay Mind you my wife of 11 years and we have a 14month old daughter. Amazingly, I had the worst luck that day... the immigration officer could mainly Speak Cantonese with very little English... as I tried speaking to him in either Language. It is now March 2017 and I've been waiting for a phone call for several hours. As they'll call YOU once... So, if it's worth it to you, That's why I said "go yourself" it's long and boring. But I guarantee you won't be able to contact any Chinese Embassy in the states, not Beijing, not Shanghai nor Guangzhou I want you all to know, no mater what. There's ***always ANOTHER way*** and that is really the great thing about China. I have been living abroad for over 13 years, in many places. This is from Experience. As I'm a TESOL/TEFL teacher and I've had to handle many students and their visas (going abroad for University)

I just wanted to study abroad in China and now I can’t because the Chinese embassy is asking my parents for so much information just because they’re Chinese. We gave them all the documents we have in our house and they are still not satisfied ( passport, us citizenship certificate, green card- it was so hard to find the green card stuff cuz it was so long ago but we found it anyway) they also wanted my parents exact date of entry to the US. All the questions are so unrelated to me and some documents have been taken by the US government already and the embassy won’t understand. We gave them everything we have and they keep asking us to repeatedly give the same documents and repeatedly ask for more info. It never ends! I feel like it’s just a way to say they don’t want me to study abroad in China. Fine, I won’t go then. I was looking forward to this opportunity for 2 years already, now I can’t go. What are you doing with all of our information anyway? I heard I wasn’t the only one complaining about this. There are many other Chinese students going through the same trouble. This is so dumb... both Of my parents are US citizens and I was born here. Are you trying to research to aee if I’m a spy? -500000000 stars from me.

Modern, expansive compound with mixed classical Chinese and contemporary architecture, excellent cuisines and professional staff (although I didn't appreciate being profiled by one moronic guard who follow me around even into the restroom because of my disability and ethnicity__as if only Asians of certain attributes commit crimes, a closed mindset that is a legacy of foreign imperialism and colonialism that perpetuates Asians to victimize other Chinese/Asians or people of colors subconsciously, further reinforced white privileges for no apparent reasons. I realize this slavish is not confined just to China but many developing countries in general and will take time to change). Security is paramount but enforcement must be fair, hence, one star deduction. China is a wonderful country, its people generally hospitable (yes you heard right, esp. in rural areas) familial pious and industrious, a diverse geography from Taklamakan of Xinjiang to Gobi of Henan to historic Xian to bustling Guangzhou and futuristic Shanghai. One must seek out and take the roads less traveled with an opened mind away from the loud tourists and bad headlines to discover the hidden beauty of China!

I would give ZERO star to Chinese Embassy Visa Office. there is a consul who is very nice totally different from others, the star is for him. Even though I am Chinese, I would say that this visa office has no good point. It has very bad management, every staff inside the glass looks like that you owe him/her, or you bother him/her. The security staff are ver impolite, they will say "I can kick you out" to answer all your question about their mistakes. Why not say"sorry' rather than "kick out". I heard one security told a woman who was looking for help and complained about the phone, he said"YES. We never answer the phone." BTW, the place are crowded and noisy.

I made a phone call to Chinese Embassy today to consult a visa issue. The first few calls said not available. Then I waited for a few minutes and called again. It was picked up really quickly and the officers resolved my issue immediately. It was so efficient!! And it totally made my day. After spending many years in US, I got used to the long waiting time. Some US government agencies can never be reached through phone calls. Our Chinese Embassy is doing an excellent job, and I am very grateful for the efforts made by the great officers!!! Thank you!

  • Aitee Mansaray

Very bad experience with this place, I been calling their phone no answer and I email them and it been two weeks no reply yet, my boyfriend lives in China and I’m planning to go see him pretty soon. how can I go when nobody cannot in hold of the contact or email so Frustrating and weird behavior. you see that’s why people say you cannot compare America with any Country it means for so some many reasons.in America here they put Customers first and response to phone calls really quick and reply emails on time. Nonsense ✊

  • Juice

Phone number is on loop and no one answers even if you let it ring for 2 hours or more. Called the cell phone number listed on the site and was met with a rude man yelling at me to keep calling the other number. I highly suspect other 5 star reviewers are friends of the embassy workers being told to review it. This is a problem with the Chinese embassy in Houston as well because all of their numbers listed are disconnected or not in service... Unbelievable!

  • pam moskal

I wish I could give 0 star, the worst embassy ever. Just torte their own people. And for god's sake, who would want to go to China if there is no family left there? only 3-4 days for visa for US citizens but takes 2 months to apply the travel docs with 2 year valid use period. even those who are not supposed to apply the travel docs. why the citizen and green card holders' kids need the travel docs instead of visa?

  • Khargis Khüitenzürkh

This embassy makes you realize that their main responsibility is not to help their own citizens or foreign nationals who want to travel to China, but instead serving their own leaders and bureaucratic matter. They never pick up the phone calls, never reply emails, their attitudes are awful and their instructions are unclear. China is a rich country but its governmental branches and services are so backward.

  • Al Zhang

Negative stars if possible. Called multiple times early on a Wednesday; the automated system either hung up on you after a few seconds or transferred you to a voicemail box that was full and hung up on you. Why even bother listing a phone number if you don't want people to use it. This is how China presents itself when her citizens need help. Pathetic and worthless.

  • Michael Saxton

Prime example of why marxist communism never works. Even when you try to give it a different nationalities characteristics. No worries, though i'm gonna be standing on a c c p flag in between all three of their locations this weekend. I'll make sure to burn it before leaving the capital. Time for them to get the picture of leaving Taiwan alone.

  • Zai Lor

My family have been trying to get a visa from China Embassy for my mom to tour China. All her information requirements were already accepted and was told to pick the visa up in the next following days. However, they called back asking that they still need a copy of her birth certificate and a resume or else my mom will not receive the visa.

  • Adam Jury

Call them and go through their automated service, clearly with the correct phone number as the automated voice told me so, before I even finish my sentence am told I have the wrong number and am hung up on. Call back repeatedly to immediately having the phone hung up on me without a chance of even talking. Completely garbage service

  • iad tar

Basically no one will answer the emails! Everybody is dead at this place! Then why you put in an email address for us to submit the questions? You just auto reply with your website back to us every time you receive any email? If I can find out answers from your website, why do I send you an email?

  • Hardlyworkin

I can't imagine any high reviews for this place. I've been trying to get in touch with their visa section for the last 6 months. No one ever picks up their phones. I just get a busy signal. I've tried calling the consulates in NY and Chicago with the same effect. Extremely unprofessional behavior.

  • Victoria Lui

Rude service. Does not answer emails or phone calls. Workers will find reasons to reject your application. It seems like they are on a power trip. My husband and I was rejected twice at the DC Embassy. We then went on to go to the New York Embassy and did not have any issues at all.

  • Tiësto o0o0

Issues alerts to Chinese citizens stating that “gun violence, theft, robbery, shooting, robbery, and theft are frequent” and “be alert to suspicious people around you, avoid going out alone at night” This is not true!!! The US isn’t some third world country in Africa!

  • King Kaleb

The meanest Chinese Embassy service I ever experienced They only open to give service to their own people. It seems they don’t won’t anyone to go to their country. They did not give me a reason why they rejected my visa application. Their nod is very surprising to me

  • Rena

Hello, I was calling about having my number removed for your embassy call list. I have been getting calls from your embassy for the last 4 months. I'm not Chinese. I'm a Louisiana creole person. I don't understand what the recordings are saying. Please stop them.

  • J K

No answer. Hard to get ahold of somebody. My friend is going back home to China but there is no direct flight. We need to know if she still have to do the test in the transit country even if it’s only 3 hours layover. Please somebody answer.

  • KK W

They NEVER pick up the damn phone. I called between 9:30am to 9:49am on Friday and no one working there picking up the main line you provided on the consulate website?? Slacking! You represent the Chinese government and now I see it ...

  • Michael W

Seeing how many times I could call and be hung up on without getting word out to the operator was kinda funny at first, then astounding, and then .. impossible. Guys, if you're busy there's something called a hold button.

  • Qing Xia

The phone number on google is WRONG! The last four number should be 2216 instead of 2266. Why don't you change it? And why don't the people who rate one star after call CHECK ON OFFICIAL WEBSITE FIRST before you call?!

  • Goran Mam

Today I called, someone responded and he was really disrespectful, he didn’t let me talk!! I asked one question he told me just listen don’t talk and he hanged out the phone! That person is really disrespectful..

  • Titus Siebenhaar

I am actually going to give this a negative 75,000 stars. It's torture to be ignored and never have your calls answered or your emails. And this is worse than the worst. Tata. Good luck getting your ratings up.

  • Scott Leung

called and automated answering service put me on hold with their creepy electronic fur elise music. 20 seconds into their 1980s sci-fi post-apocalyptic electronic piano music, I was automatically disconnected.

  • J Ding

Chinese government never serve their people, they extract from people and make people serve the government. I never felt being served in these offices, I only felt like I was a slave and they were the boss.

  • Kathleen Ellis

There is no answer no matter which oftheir numbers you call. Even the consular offices have recordings of numbers to call that have all been disconnected. Do we have diplomatic relations with them or not?

  • Arman Rahmim

Very unprofessional service; they don't answer phone; unnecessarily strict on forms and applications (basically having a side business upstairs charging money to improve applications, that is unnecessary)

  • CJ

We went to the wrong place. The security guy there (a middle-aged man with glasses) was so rude and disrespectful. I have been in US for 3 years and he’s the meanest guy I have ever met. Shame on you.

  • Lemon Liz

Chinese DMV in Washington DC....rude staff, bad location, procrastinated attitude. ... by the way, what is your relationship with oasis visa in the third floor? Are those people your relative??

  • Matt Minyard

i was disappointed in the fact that nobody answered the phone number I had called, but I decided to drive over there & I applied for my visa & now have it 4 business days later. All good

  • liping zhang

Waited 5 hours to get travel document and then document interviewers had a meeting delaying the interview. Very squeezed room, no food stores or vending machines in the building.

  • Sara Dai

The phone is not reachable for visa office. The emails are returned. What's the sense to publish the phone number and email? Why is it like that Poor poor service

  • Michael M.

You all misunderstood the number they listed online. It’s not a phone number. It’s a lottery number. The chance they pick up the phone is same as you winning powerball.

  • Alex Dubit

Honestly the rudest security guards ever! they think they own people. They were Americans but I think Chinesse told them to treat American like dogs when they walk in

  • 瑜珈與生活Tina *Yoga&Living*

No one answered the phone call, even finally answered. It is a woman, her voice sounds like I owe her million dollars already ~ A country " service for the people ".

Although long line. They processed my visa's very quick. Both times. The friendly efficient service was so impressive. I was very satisfied. Thank you so much.

  • アコスタ・ブルノ

Horrible consular service, phone more useless than Chinese politician promises, and not to mention what a cesspool of spies dwells in here. Disappointed.

  • Julieta Martineau

Do they EVER answer the phone??? SO frustrating! Worse costumer service I've ever seen. I called at different times, different days and nothing.

  • Troy Davis

Really looking forward to things opening back up and visiting China; however, unbelievably rude staff at their embassy does not make it easy

  • Xiao-Feng Zheng

Called the official telephone number listed on their website and formals documents. The number is not available/disconnected. Unbelievable.

  • Masearte Abraha

Why have a phone number listed if you are not going to answer? I've called I don't know how many times but nobody answers the phone!

  • 3.14 Pi

Cannot reach by phone. Some friends also had unhappy experience with them... they don't think from customer's perspective.

  • emma xiao

I wish I could give a '0'. Extremely long waiting time, on avg. 3 hours, horrible service, and staff very rude.

  • evry1loveronica
