I’ve been coming here for years to get paint. Always had great experiences, so I continued to drive from Venice for my hardware needs. Today an associate got a very bad attitude with me after he misunderstood my order. I corrected him and he got very angry and I went back and forth with him and he kept saying it’s because I was on the phone? Yes I was talking to my mother about paint colors but I had the phone at my side both times he asked me the same question worded differently. Both times I said the same order plus the pint. This all went on in front of who I assume was management. A nice associate came out to bring the additional can and apologized but since when is it ok for an associate to get after a customer saying I HEARD WHAT I HEARD, I HEARD WHAT I HEARD AND YOU WERE ON THE PHONE. Save your sanity and go somewhere else. Sorry guys it was great until it wasn’t. And for future reference when something like this happens a simple “I’m so sorry I misunderstood I’ll fix it right now .” Would be more than appropriate.
If it's customer service that is important to you this is the place to come to. Mom and Pop hardware store with kind folks willing to help you. I went in this week with some Christmas toys that were not working. One was a motorized Pluto. First of all having thought they may laugh at my bringing them in it was the complete opposite. All four grown men began to reminisce about Pluto. it was heartwarming. Secondly, they did everything they could to try and help me get them working again. In the end I spent only $10. there with the assurance if I didn't need the batteries after all just bring them back. I've gotten one toy to work so far. Going to go back tomorrow to see if they can help me get Pluto working now that I cleaned the corrosion off. Please patronize this store. We need stores like this in our community. Especially in LA....
Love the location and the selection which seems to cater to the home's built within a 2 mile radius. Prices aren't lowest, but time and gas to drive to big stores should be factored in. Sadly, there seems to be a contest among the longtime staff as to who can win the Surly Contest. Judging by the good reviews by females, the staff probably likes to flirt. Hard to get the attention of the employees older than 40. One guy, incompetent, can't stop swearing. The big guy--don't know his name--if you can get his attention, is a hardware guru. Approach the younger staff if you want friendly or just to find something in stock. The older staff often is too busy talking to each other to pay attention to customers with a simple "may I help you?"
Decades old neighborhood favorite, maybe because it is an old-fashioned jumble of items that mostly the staff can find. Prices are also higher than the old B & B Hardward mainstay that closed. Caution about buying parts because they are not returnable, though they will try them out if they can-- like a halogen bulb I bought and was stuck with though too dim (you cannot buy these in California on line anymore). A fun back entrance and a couple of parking places in the back. Recommend George, who helped us with a parts problem instantly. I returned to get a new louver window piece replacement; he had told me how to measure it.
Everyone here is so helpful and friendly. I've come twice now with some problems that they've been able to advise and help on, and both times I feel like they went above and beyond to give me individual help where other stores either "didn't provide that service" or were noticeably condescending to me as a young woman. Here I felt respected and got great assistance. Just today they spent almost two hours of their time to help me extract two snapped screws from some important equipment where a screw extractor wasn't working. This place will be my exclusive hardware store from here on out.
Every time I go to Emil's I get a super attentive sales associate, and they almost always have what I need. Went in for a gas valve, and left with a gas valve and feeling like there was no home project I couldn't tackle. They guided me through not only the products I went in for, but through the process to actually do the project I came in for. No condescension, just undivided help and attention. Prices are fair, and the support I get far exceeds any of the major home improvement stores. Plus you're supporting small business. Win, win.
Such a helpful crew. I couldn't get the small screws out of a piece of electronic hardware that a repair shop had said they might need to drill out. These guys helped me hands on to get them out and saved me a hell of a lot of hassle and time and cash. The guy wouldn't even take any $ as a tip for the time he spent helping me, was just happy he could help fix it. In the end I just paid $15 for the tool I needed to buy from them and it saved me a lot more in possible repair shop fees. SUPPORT LOCAL BUSINESSES is my last word.
Don’t come here if you can avoid it. Rude staff. I showed up at 5:20pm to buy around $100 in materials for a project I’m working on. My visit wouldn’t have taken more than 15 min. They close at 5:30pm so yes I was cutting it close but was immediately met with someone asking “are you going to take forever? because we are about to close”. The cashier then said I had to leave. Wanted to support this small business but won’t be coming back here.
First time going here. Place is bigger inside than it looks from the outside. I parked in the back via the alley and walked in through their rear entrance. Before I could look for an employee for assistance, one was already approaching to both greet and ask me if he could help me with something. I was in and out with the correct toilet flush lever. Saved them to one of my work related "lists".
I’m new to the neighborhood and I try to support smaller businesses when I can but this place has terrible customer service. I showed up 10 minutes before they closed. Was in the process of grabbing items when we were told “don’t take forever we’re closed” it was still 5:25 at the time. Would have spent over $100 easily and they couldn’t wait 10 minutes. Definitely won’t be back.
I was so excited to find this hardware store - where I'm from, you never find hardware stores like this anymore. EVERYTHING you need and can't find. I was in heaven. Every kind of sandpaper - there must have been 30 varieties. Cleaning supplies you can't find anywhere else - all in one place. All the things the big boxes stopped carrying are here. Keep up the good work, Emil's!
The staff is always nice and everyone knows what isle my requested stuff is on. I needed some raid flying insect spray (they had plenty of other insect sprays) but it wasn't there. They ordered two cases immediately and said they would be there on Monday. I'll be there on Monday to pick them up. I appreciate and support this independent and local store. I'm glad they are here.
I recently visited this hardware store to buy home plumbing supplies for a project. The staff was accommodating, guiding me to the right products and offering expert advice. The quality of the supplies I purchased was top-notch, and the prices were unbeatable. This store is a treasure trove for anyone looking for plumbing supplies, and the value for money is exceptional.
How great to have a small owned hardware shop left in existence. The help was awesome they showed us where everything was fit all of my needs immediately. They have a large diverse array of items to choose from. Would go there again for sure over any big box. Small business is not dead! Go there and support these people.
Great place -- classic friendly, neighborhood hardware store. The staff help you find precisely what you need, and provide you with experience-based answers to any questions that you might have about how to use something or install install it, as well as providing general home repair and DIY advice. Highly recommend.
This place is so great! I had a broken piece on my car so I located the closest hardware store. I was looking to purchase a temp fix and the man asked to see the broken piece outside to offer a better solution. Not only did he do that he offered to help me fix it. They are so helpful.
The guys here are really helpful. This is my go-to for small jobs I need to do at home. They are busy so just be patient for your turn if you need to ask questions. Unlike the big box stores, they take the time to listen and try to give you options which I appreciate.
First timer. The store was okay. Decent inventory. Cashier didn't seem too friendly. Slammed my money on the counter. I won't be going back, but, somehow I feel that was the end goal all along. Good luck to you if you go here. Maybe just don't be black.
This is a fabulous small business hardware store. If you like to buy local and from a small business, this place is for you. The owner Mike is usually around and he is really nice and helpful. He cares and is knows his products.
This place is awesome. If they don't have something they will have it next day I grew up in Chicago and when my neighborhood hardware store was sold I thought I would never see 1 again. I'm so glad to see they still exist
Pros and cons. Cons: Its not Ralph's or Albertsons. Prices are slightly higher. Pros: great quality products of all kinds. Especially vegetarian. Convenient. Clean. Sometimes it has hard to find products.
Listen. Emil's hardware has gotten me out of several pickles! They have great staff that is helpful and happy to help. They carry a lot of good items and they are reasonably priced. highly recommend.
Great neighborhood hardware store. Small compared to the large famous chains, but had pretty much everything you need. Also great service, the employees know a lot. A little, rare gem...
Overpriced, poor customer, service, and very bad attitude. I don’t know how these people stayed in business drive couple of miles and buy your stuff from the Lowe’s or the Home Depot.
They have just about everything a big box store has but for me it’s a little more convenient to go down the street and shop verses driving miles out to a Home Depot or Lowes.
Always a great experience at this place. From parts for my tools to great knowledgeable plumbing staff. Michael is a grwat resource for plumbing know how. Live this place
Mike was very friendly and knowledgeable took the time to explain things. This store is very well stocked. I found hard to find item here
They answered all my questions and They were able to supply me with what I needed. the staff was very helpful and patient .
They've saved me on several occasions. It's a big box store, they jump right in to ask what you need. Thanks guys.
Old school and family ran to serve with professionalism you just can't get from the "Depot" or the Lowes....
