I recently had an unfortunate experience with Europcar Blackburn. I needed a replacement vehicle after my car was rear-ended, and my insurance company arranged a rental car through Europcar. I was booked in for a small hatch-sized car. However, when I arrived the manager's (Samantha) attitude was less than welcoming. She was very rude and condescending, and handed over the keys without any explanation or information about my booking. I was left to figure out everything on my own. To my surprise, the car I was given keys for was a large SUV. When I questioned it the manager informed me that there were no smaller cars available. While I understand availability can be limited, the significant difference between a hatch and a large SUV should have prompted a call in advance to inform me rather than being given expected to accept an inappropriate vehicle upon arrival. The difference in petrol just to drive myself around for what ended up being a 5 month wait for my vehicle repairs, was just not feasible. Thankfully, my insurance company were also appalled and organised for me to return the SUV the following day and receive a smaller car as originally booked. However, my troubles didn't end there. A week into driving the replacement car, I encountered a warning light on the dashboard indicating brake issues. I contacted Europcar's roadside assistance service immediately. They were extremely helpful and concerned, and had someone out immediately. They recommended that I contact Europcar Blackburn immediately to arrange a new vehicle as the warning light could indicate a more serious issue (e.g. brake failure). I called Europcar Blackburn, but they claimed to have no cars available for me to switch into. Their response was dismissive, and the manager showed no empathy for the inconvenience or the potential safety risk I was facing. They assured me that they would contact me as soon as a suitable car became available. A week later, I still hadn't heard back. Concerned for my safety, I contacted them again, only to be told by manager Samantha that they had not yet found a replacement vehicle for me. I reminded them about the advice given by the roadside assistance team regarding the safety of the car I was currently driving, but they displayed a complete lack of concern for the situation and were very condescending. Feeling extremely uncomfortable with Europcar's disregard for my safety and well-being, I returned the car and made alternative arrangements elsewhere, unfortunately at my own expense but that was worth it to know I was driving a car that's brakes wouldn't fail on me at any moment. When returning the car I did noticed that they had 4 small hatch sized cars sitting there. I would strongly advise anyone in need of rental services to consider other options before choosing Europcar, as their lack of customer care left me deeply uncomfortable and inconvenienced.

It was a nice new car they gave me. To start with they gave me the wrong car keys, no big issue. When returning the car, the guy in the office takes the key and never checked the car. I was outside waiting for my Uber for 10 min. As soon as I leave I get a call saying there was dog hair in the car and I will be charged $300 for cleaning. I explained to him we do not own a dog, and I am a hundred percent sure no dog was in the car. He started telling me someone had smoked in the car. I did not want to argue, I told him I will get the car cleaned.. I went back in 10 minutes and asked him to show me the dog hair, He was rude and short, he opens the driver seat door and shows me the place where we put our feet and shows me some dusty like in any normal car and says see dog hair. Then he opens the boot and says see, I used the car for 6 days and carried shopping bags from coles that is it.. I asked him are you telling me there was a dog in the boot and near the driver side where the accelerator and brake pedal is. Just harassed me and had absolutely no people skills. Rude and condensinding. I will definately not be going back to Europecar, the people who they employ has lost them my goodwill and bad word of mouth. Very bad customer service experience. I took the car to a Petrol station and vacuumed it for $6 he threatened to charge my card $300 Is this how you treat your customers. This car had no mats, if you are so pedantic about your cars please supply mats for at least the driver and passenger. Very disappointing experience Have used other companies AVIS, Budget never been treated so shabbily. The guy in the counter said his name was Toby. Please train him to deal with customers, he is the face of your company.

After being a loyal customer of Europcar Dandenong for 2 years i decided to try the Blackburn Europcar depot when i moved my business nearby. I will never be using any Europcar ever again because of their extremely poor customer service. When i returned my rental the following day half an hour late because unlike everyone else including the Dandenong depot that closes at 1pm, they do not, they close at 12pm, and as a new customer i would’ve thought telling me this would have been great customer service. The manager claims she told me they close at 12pm but if this was the case i would have been aware of it and not spent another day’s rental for nothing when i returned the van 1/2 hour late and it had closed. This depot’s manager is the reason i will never use Europcar ever again because she was extremely rude on the phone and she does not genuinely appreciate a customer’s loyalty, so from now on i’m going next door to Budget who have shown incredible customer service to me in the last month. Anyone that cares more about getting the customer’s money more than looking after the customer properly is nothing more than a brown nose to head office and that’s a recipe for disaster, which is probably why their Google Star Reviews are so poor and in the mid 3 Stars…

Very unfriendly experienced! He told me he will only charge me for the refuel and that’s it. When i arrived Johnny was so rude telling me that he will be late for his GIRLFRIEND DATING and I will be charge for a very expensive refuel charges of $4.50 per litre. It was slightly more than half tank when i returned the vehicle. Your girlfriend is not going to run away just because you were late for 15mins but you will be losing another customer. Never go there anymore! P/s: NEVER TRUST the guy JOHNNY! Just received my invoice today and found out that they overcharged me not only for the refuel but also they charged me for another day! From $173 to now $432.95. What a conman! Attached is the proof of refuel receipt by me. I refuel twice because the vehicle wasn’t at full tank when given to me. Anyway take it as a charity for you JOHNNY!

I have booked a 8-seater vehicle 10 weeks prior to travel date. I booked well in advance knowing that there will be high demand during Christmas and New Year. Booking was confirmed already. I received a call two & half week before travel date and told it is booked out and will not be available. The staff at the local branch informed me that vehicle was damaged and will not be available for my booking period. I was then referred to customer relation who told a different story - it is because another customer extended rental period and they agreed to it. This is upsetting to me and totally unfair. They should not extend the rent period to other customer while I have already booked it. This is not how booking system works. Similar vehicle they offer is 7 seater . They say they provide enough time for me. But I cannot find 8 seater at any other rental places for this period. No responsibility from the rental service. Terrible and unreliable customer service.

Please, please. Do not use this company. Toby (the Manager, apparently!!) is just rude, obnoxious and incredibly unprofessional. I've never dealt with a company as poor as Europcar Blackburn. Toby lacks integrity, honesty and basic ethics...in my humble opinion. He tried to charge me $330 for a steam clean of my rental vehicle because there was (very little) dog hair on the floor. Yes, I own a dog, the dog hair had transferred from my shoes to the floor of the vehicle. He accused me of having my dog in the car which (of course) never happened. I was more than reasonable but he swore at me and my wife and was quite personal with his comments too. I have looked at other reviews for Europcar Blackburn and I can see that others have encountered the same issue with the pet hair accusations. it seems to be their little way of making some extra revenue. Please don't use this company and in particular, please do not deal with Toby.

My insurance company organised a hire car for me as my usual car was hit. When picking up they were fairly friendly. Once I dropped it, the lady said all was fine with the car when she checked over it. Then 10 minutes later I get a phone call stating that I needed to come back and vacuum the boot because there was dog hair. If I didn’t do that they would have to charge me $200 to get it steam cleaned. I questioned why they couldn’t just vacuum it when they told me to do it. They said their vacuum cleaners wouldn’t be able to pick up the hair. I have posted a photo of my boot. It was ridiculous!! I took it home, gave it a quick vacuum and returned it. Talk about trying to take me for a ride! The rest of the floor was far dirtier with general shoe dirt. I wouldn’t recommend them if they’re going to be dodgy and ask for $200 for a job that took 10 seconds for me to do.

Worth place I rent a car in my life. If I was able to put zero stars, I just will. Same as the previous reviewers, I was close to get this cleaning scam for having a nice, cute and fluffy white dog home. If you are a pet owner, you will transfer dog/cat hair no matter what on the car (and I did try to explain this patiently to the lady). The lady serving us was just rude and not professional and even share a previous experience, suggesting to come in underwear to avoid hair transfer. I never put review most of the time, but want to lower the score of this place to provide some awareness of what could go wrong and remind this place manager (@Toby) that this is not how you treat customers. Keep in mind you have Avis, Budget Sixt and will not have this 300 AUD scam cleaning risk by not going to Europcar. NOT A PLACE TO RENT A CAR.

The worst! They supplied me a van which had a slow leaking tyre (a bolt embedded for some time shown by the wear), when the tyre went flat I pulled the jack out only to find it was one meant for a small car and was completely useless. I then called their roadside assist who replaced the tyre and supported my contention that the bolt had been lodged prior to my picking it up. When I explained this to the person at Blackburn they seemed to understand. Then! I receive an invoice for $330 for 1 tyre!!! I tried to call and explain that the whole thing was their fault but kept getting transferred and gave up after being told no one could help me. They then took the money straight out of my account despite my efforts to explain. The most dishonest rental company I have ever dealt with.

Not once but twice I have been left high and dry by this company, made a booking over the phone received email confirmation and both times they did not actually have the vehicle available. Just today they tried to call me 8 minutes before I was due to collect the vehicle to let me know it wasn’t available, obviously not enough time for me to arrange something else, I had driven 40 minutes to come to collect... The time before they were going to call me back to try and arrange a alternate vehicle and I never heard back from them. I run a business and had relied on the vehicle and both times caused serious stress and inconvenience, don’t waste your time here if you want service you can rely on, instead I suggest you go next door to budget...

Do not use these guys. They are totally unprofessional and you simply cannot understand them. We had to drive 150 kilometres (from the Barossa Valley to Adelaide and Back) to add a driver to the policy as they would not accept an email with the driver licence and insisted we visit a Europcar business. They had no drop off option on Saturday which meant we were forced to rent the car for an extra day when we did not need it. The most disappointing experience ever. You will regret it. This business has so much potential but is run by 'children' who are not interested in the customer. Ten phone calls and a total waste of time. Don't risk it. You will regret it.

By far, the worst car rental service in Melbourne! I’ve been a regular Europcar customer for over 3 years now and the poor customer service i received was shocking, then the disgusting phone manner of their manager afterwards just shocked me! She had absolutely no regard for the customer and all she cared for was the dollar. Her attitude on the phone was really poor and condescending and she had no time to help me resolve my issue with them, even when i explained i was a longtime customer of Europcar Dandenong (who i highly recommend), she was totally uninterested in my situation so they’ve lost a valuable customer, but their loss is Budget Rentals gain…

Be careful! What they sell you at the counter may not be what your final invoice shows. My rental agreement signed at counter showed 25.40 day Final invoice in email showed $30 day Plus sales agreed to waive $70 different drop off location, but charged on invoice Overcharged nearly $130 Received $ 50 refund The sales office has no authority Head office does their own thing Don't trust them PS SALES STAFF FRIENDLY AND HELPFUL... but doesn't justify fraudulent invoice UPDATE- HAVE NOW REFUNDED CORRECT AMOUNT. BETTER COMMUNICATION WOULD HAVE BEEN GOOD BUT AT LEAST THEY HAVE DONE RIGHT THING

Just completed a rental transaction with Johnny at Blackburn. I found him to be very informative and helpful. Nothing was too hard and l knew exactly how everything works and what l have to do and be aware of. Service like the good old days where the sales person cares about the customer. I have received cars and trucks from from him before and it's always the same that why l drive across from the other side of town to Blackburn because the price is great as well as the way he looks after his customers. Well done and thanks Johnny.

This experience was initially quite easy and respectful however upon returning my rental car, after having washed and cleaned it and filling it up, I was shocked when I was told to go to the petrol station and fill the car back up when the gauge may have been 2-3 millimetres from the F Line. This is pitiful behaviour, as I am time poor I had no choice but to accept their $4 per litre charge to fill it the extra way? What a rude experience. I will not be using Europcar again. Terrible experience, booked an SUV for my road trip, waited for HALF AN HOUR before the Johnny guy finally decided serve me, but then he REFUSES to rent me the car because I had a “probationary license” even though it was already a full license and legally allowed to rent at any rental company. ABSOLUTELY DISGUSTING service, I went on to rent another car at Budget next door with no problems at all. Never renting from Europcar again!!

I don't normally write reviews but this is really bad. Staff don't pick up the phone unless you ring more than 2 times, and then the man I spoke to was the most rude person I have ever talked to. He hung up 3 times while speaking to him, and redirected the call to the head office 1 time, who weren't able to assist. Perhaps he is this "johnny" character other reviews have mentioned. 0/5 don't recommend this europcar.

Went to pick my hire car and was told can’t use wallet credit card has to be the actual card I’m not sure what year this company is operating but certainly not modern day, so I rang my daughter to use her card and was told no only yours I feel sorry for the staff having to work in such antiquated conditions euro cars you really need to get your systems updated or is it about just the money and not customer service.

Gave me a good clean new car, no complaints, lady on the Sunday I picked up the car was stressed out - I think her name was Sam. She mentioned she had to pick up her son and that was not going to happen as it was fairly busy. Felt sad for her. Maybe add another person on the weekends to lift the pressure off of her. But overall great service and would hire from here again.

Yet another victim of the pet hair scam. Insurance provided vehicle. I will be ringing them so they know what Europcar Blackburn is up to.. They claim a cat was in the car. A tiny amount of transfer from clothing led to them claiming it would contaminate their vacuum and it would cost over $250 to get in a professional cleaner.

Had to get a loan car organised by my insurance after a minor car accident. Was given a Kia Stonic with low KMs and it was in pristine condition. Sign in process and drop off was easy and hold charge on my credit card was reversed immediately after drop off. Would recommend.

We booked a SUV for two days driving from melbourne to adelaide. Alan, Annas and Eddy are actually quite friendly and helpful. Very nice talking‘em. And the car is very new and with clean carpet as well as interior. It is reliable. Actually a very highly rated experience.

Said I’d get a free upgrade with taking out premium protection package but then charged me for the upgrade - cost me an extra $250. Said I need to call head office about the extra fee but they were the ones to add this extra fee to my account. Don’t trust them!

I rented a SUV, it was fairly new and very clean, and it came with handy Android/Apple software. Service was great, location is easy to find, and there's a petrol station nearby which makes it convenient if you want to fuel up your car before returning it.

I've rented a car, a 4WD and a small truck form them. The reason? They are consitently the cheapest of the bunch. Ony one person usually there and when it comes to drop off time it can take some time to get out of tehre.
